  • Are you a Laser Rangefinder or GPS type of Golfer? This video is a battle to decide which is better for you, a Laser Rangefinder or GPS Watch?
I've never used a Laser Rangefinder consistently before, I've always much preferred the simplicity of GPS devices on the golf course, so I was really keen to test the new Shot Scope Pro L2 laser.
This video is a four hole match to compare the new Shot Scope laser and the new X5 GPS Watch to see which I prefer and which I think is better for different types of golfers.

A combo for me! I use a free app to plan tee shots if it’s a new course to me or a blind shot, then use my laser for all approach shots so best of both worlds!
I know from playing with friends that have garmin watches that the app is a few yards out most of the time which is fine for what I use it for but I wouldn’t trust it for my approach shots unless I had to for whatever reason.

Great vid and great review. I like to use both. GPS as discussed is really good for all the extra information and the laser for more accurate numbers. Use the previous gen shotscope laser and it suits my needs perfectly.

I glad your X5 is working. I can not get a GPS signal. Until Shot Scope update their current firmware I would not recommend this watch.

Thanks. Hope that gets sorted for you soon. I've played a few courses with mine and thankfully its connected to them all. Good luck.

I had this issue with my V3. When changed settings to 1 satellite instead of 2, that seemed to resolve issue.

I've got the older shot scope and a range finder. I use both. Lazer for the pin, watch for front, back and middle. My gripe with shotscope is that I've found it's not very accurate in capturing the distance of each shot. After each round i have to adjust literally ever single shot. Not much point to the stats if they're not accurate. Is the new watch better at tracking shots?

How accurate was the displayed yardages on the watch compared to the laser?

Almost identical. Laser is obviously on the target and watch shows front, middle and back, but the numbers make sense as being basically the same (if that makes sense).

Does it work in lower light conditions?

The Laser or the Watch? The laser is great except for in fog - but maybe that's to be expected :-) The watch has been good in all situations so far. Hope that helps somehow.
