Oh my God, I remember the shoplifting sketch. I would have been just 13 the time I saw it first. It is even better than I remembered.

They missed one trick....playing the music from Psycho during the price marker attack. I used to use those every day.

Flaherty's Stallone was spot on. Never saw him do that impression before. Also loved his psalm by Kirk Douglas. 😄

Re. the "SCTV News" teaser starting at 7:43 - Earl's sensibilities here (or lack thereof) seemed reminiscent of the, ahem, "journalistic" values of KGO-TV in San Francisco, which in the early 1970's had such a reputation for those type of lurid stories on their "News Scene" broadcasts that critics claimed their call letters stood for "Kickers, Guts and Orgasms." But it also showed how he was of the more tabloidy, "Happy Talk" school of news presentation, vs. Floyd who was more of the Murrow/Cronkite/Huntley et al. school (" . . . some economics news . . . an auto strike, and a piece on NATO . . . ") and where Joe Flaherty seemed to channel Pittsburgh anchor Bill Burns here (Burns did have a reputation for bluntness which showed up now and then in the stories he read).

I love that Hefty got a read on the film Rocky by looking at the film stock and commenting on its 'good style'. And Andrea Martin's take on Talia Shire....that two pairs of glasses bit has never been done better. And sending Candy AS A BUTCHER in to menace the shoplifter Classic!

Back when the goal of a comedy show was to be funny and entertaining. Modern SNL is a social lecture. I’m a Liberal, but modern SNL has gone waaaaaay Liberal. Even I feel like I’m being preached to. I just want to laugh.

Well, he did compose the theme to the Batman TV show, after all - and that's pretty funny.
