    Are you a creative too? Let me know what camera you use for your video work?

      I've been using an old iPhone 6. But I want to save up for either a Canon T7i or a Lumix GH5

      I started on the iPhone as well! I actually really liked it for vlogging, it's light and so portable. I just wish you could get that blurry background with it in video, I am sure in time that will be possible!

      I really like your video. Very informative. Your energy is great. I started off with the canon T6i and now I’m on the BlackMagic 6K Pro.

    Hi. This is a very helpful video bc it shows real-life usage.. love the depth of field test. One question.. is this the USM version of the lens? And did you have a shotgun mic on the camera ? Or is that af sound from the internal camera mic?

    • @oddittydotco
      @oddittydotco  Год назад

      🙏 yes it’s the usm version. i can’t remember what mic i used as it was filmed a while ago but it was likely a Rode video mic on top of camera.

    Hah! I was looking for reviews on this lens and voila, our paths cross again! I just got it and I'm really happy with it! Thanks for posting video using the lens, and the aperture graduation was very helpful!

      Oh that's great, how are you finding the autofocus noise? Are you using it for video?

    • @Jason-mj3wr
      @Jason-mj3wr 3 года назад +1

      @@oddittydotco I took it out for some evening low-light stills and the bokeh was amazing! At low aperture the AF had to hunt around a lot so I wound up going manual, especially in low light and will do the same for video, increasing F to around 2.2+ to give the focus a wider sweet spot. I use a separate mic for video so the motor noise is not a significant factor. Thanks for the review, I'm stoked to add this lens to my tiny collection.

      It is a very light setup for photo and video.

      Yes it's a great lens, I love the image from it. Are you using for video? I found that the auto focus noise was coming into the external mic ☹️, wondered if you have the same problem?

      @@oddittydotco A small rode video mic can work wonders for improving audio quality + will help isolate your voice from the lens mechanism - check out the video mic pro series - highly recommended :)

      @oddittydotco  5 лет назад

      Yes! I have the Rode Video Mic Pro + but that day I didn't take it out as I just wasn't ready to carry such a big setup around ... still working on my confidence 😅.

    Enjoy your easy-going style, nice and calming, and authentic :) Have you paired this lens with the R? I own the camera and experimenting with wider lenses. I like the 24mm 2.8 IS, but looking at a faster aperture like this 28mm. Thanks for sharing

    • @oddittydotco
      @oddittydotco  4 года назад

      Oh thanks for this nice feedback, it made my day! I actually don't own the lens anymore as I found it a bit too loud for video with the mic mounted on the hot shoe but I miss it sometimes, it gave a really nice picture. I am using the EOS R with the RF 35mm f/1.8 at the moment, it's a nice combo, although I do wish it was a bit wider at times.

    • @PTUsher
      @PTUsher 4 года назад +1

      Odd Creative thanks for the feedback :) Funnily enough just came across another video of yours when looking at the Sigma 24 1.4 - in which you talk about the noise of this and the 28 :) Looks like I’m following a path you’ve already been down! Difference being I got the RF35 first and traded it already! It was a little too tight for my needs - fantastic lens though, and quiet enough for you I hope :) I recommend the rode wireless go. It took lens noise out of the equation for me ;) Really enjoying your videos. Thanks again for sharing

    • @oddittydotco
      @oddittydotco  4 года назад

      Yes I am still getting used to the tightness of the 35mm after coming from the 24mm, especially since I do a lot of my filming in tight internal areas ... tripod is out the door half the time and framing can be a time consuming nightmare 😰. I still have the sigma 24mm but no RF adapter as I was planning to sell the lens and use the 35mm exclusively but I am considering maybe to invest in the adapter and switching back to it 🧐. I just want a one lens setup at this stage but I just can't decide between the two ... ⚖️!

    • @PTUsher
      @PTUsher 4 года назад

      Odd Creative ah yes the fabled one-and-done lens - I’ve been on that quest too! Closest thing I can find is the sigma 18-35 :) I hope you look at the adaptor again as it opens up a lot of options. And if you’re looking to invest I recommend the ND adaptor, the R becomes a lovely little cinecam :)

    • @oddittydotco

      😅Do you have the ND adapter version? If so which ND filters are you using, cost $?

    Thanks for this video, seems to be a great lens for vloggers! The focusing is a bit loud but I don’t think it’d be a big issue if you use a shotgun mic :)

      Hey thanks for stopping by and giving feedback 🙌! From my experience the lens noise could still be heard when I used the Video Mic Pro +, but maybe there is a way to tweak the settings on the mic to eliminate this noise coming in??

    • @oddittydotco

      No post image stabilization added but the camera has a digital image stabilization feature that I am pretty sure I had on when filming this one.

    • @Ulalayumyum
      @Ulalayumyum 5 лет назад +1

      ODD CREATIVE thanks for the quick response. Been podering on this lens and the newer version 28mm 2.8 IS. I guess this still wins despite its little quirks. That 1.8 can come in handy with full body portrait shots.

    • @oddittydotco
      @oddittydotco  5 лет назад

      I am a big fan of lower apertures, there is just something magical about them. For me a f/2.8 is just not the same as a f/1.8, that's why I didn't get the f/2.8 despite the IS feature. Are you using for photo or video? I found the lens AF to be too noisy for video, the hot shoe mic would pic it up 😕 but it gives a great image 😃.

    • @Ulalayumyum
      @Ulalayumyum 5 лет назад +1

      Odd Creative better image quality than the sigma? Gonna use it for photos. I would consider the sigma but its just too big for me right now. My zoom lenses and bigger primes has just been collecting dust. Ive been shooting mainly off the 50mm 1.4 and the 40mm stm lately but would like a wider lens but a smaller form factor. I already have the 35mm1.4 but its just too big. Maybe the 28mm would be a better option. :)

    • @oddittydotco
      @oddittydotco  5 лет назад

      Both lens images look great to my eye .... but that's just my subjective opinion (not technically proven). I liked the 28mm f1/8 a lot, I only switched because of the af noise feedback in video.
