Buffalo Trace deserves a university study on branding and marketing. They can release anything, put on their label on it, and the hype is unlike any other.
If they'd put the effort into their whisky that they put into marketing, it just might be worth the hype. But out of the five BT whiskies that I've had, there's only one that I'd buy (again) if opportunity offered. I like Bluff Springs, a Total Wine store brand, better than four out of the five Buffalo Trace whiskies.
I got a bottle of the EHTBPR and I think it's very different as you mentioned but very good. Def wouldn't pay or recommend paying the full $1k secondary but no regrets for me getting it for a slight markup. It's quite a ride on the flavor and long long finish. Really enjoy it.
Totally agree with on the EHTR. I got a $28 1 oz pour at bourbon bar near me and I was not impressed. Would buy at MSRP but no chance of buying at secondary price.
The teaser is a question I've asked myself on a few occasions. There's some high priced and/or allocated whisky I've been able to taste that in my judgment isn't up to the standard of Old Grand-Dad 114, Old Forester 100, Bulleit Barrel Strength, or even Evan Williams Bottled In Bond.
Boomer Trace. In my area at least, it's a bunch of retired and semi-retired old guys that are able to vacuum up just about everything allocated in sight. Throw in a couple of non-profit/charity organizers hunting high end bottles for charity raffles/auctions, it is a wonder I see any allocated bottles! Not surprised at all that this was subpar. BT could have easily put the effort in to make it great or excellent or even legendary, but instead are choosing the cash grab option knowing full well that the majority of these bottles will be flipped and never consumed. I can't pass full judgement on BT just being mediocre across the board until I can sample some BTAC and Van Winkle products. Everything else though I've tried or have owned and to be quite frank, it's nothing standout special. Just decent inoffensive juice.
Sazerac should have released this as 1792 Full Proof Rye. Whiskey fans don't need another EHT label that's only available from resellers at a steep secondary price.

Interesting. I guess marketing works 😆. Thanks for the video.

I couldn't believe how bad it was.
You should send the Handy to the Whiskey Cove.

I always weigh products against early Times bib, Knob Creek, and Jack daniel's single barrel barrel proof.
@thatbourbondude I've never even seen Early Times BiB, but the other two are very good. 🙂

You want an awesome Rye and an awesome price Jack Daniel, single barrel barrel proof rye for 60 bucks no way anything else competes with it
I totally agree

Facts
Wet wood is not normally a great sign. This Lance guy sending you logs of damp wood.
Had a sample …. Eht BP rye after the long wait… huge let down jack barrel proof rye whoops it 7 days a week huge let down from BT
In my opinion, it might be the most disappointing product to ever come from that distillery.
