    Many people have proven that this motor too can do well if built. So if you have a 307 you can get it to be a angry little fúcker without forced induction too.

    Had a 307 when was a kid, dual exhaust, 4 barrel, .055 jets, no fouling of plugs. rev to 5k slide foot off clutch, 4.10 gears light up the mud grips a dozen times never hiccupted once. Drove it from Houston to Kerrville dozen times at 90 to 100 mph, same thing in Army . Going to Ft Sill, Ok. 90mph 2 hrs at a stretch... It's over 200miles off farmland from Houston to Dallas..... All that being said The 307's big flaw were the pistons. The only piston you will probably see that is weighted,two steel bars are cast in the pistons so the 3 7/8 pistons will balance on a 327 crankshaft. Chevy was too cheap to make a new crank so they used the 68-69 327 crank. Super cheap approach iam looking at one now out of mine, flabbergasted! With a good aftermarket rotating assembly the engine should be fine.

      It's expencive but the best combo Chevy combo it.
      3.90 pistons
      3.25 small journal factory forged crank
      350 vprtec heads shaved to 58cc or 416 305 heads.
      Scoggin Dickey TPI conversion
      FIRST TPI
      350hp 327 cam or comp cl12-268-4.
      Use an x pipe fallowed by magnaflow through X catback.
      If you use 305 heads and 52mm throttle body with tpi 350 injectors it will hit 7000rpm.
      If you use 350 heads and use 6.0ls injectors it will spin 10,000rpm.
      It's going to try to idol on the air to fuel ratio of a 350 you need the 7" brwak booster to regulate it and bring it down to the air to fuel ratio of a 327. Its a naturally asperated engine but performs like its supercharged.

    • @chuckiemyers5972
      @chuckiemyers5972 3 года назад +1

      Ps. The the easiest way to do this is find an engine builder tell him you want to take a 350 VORTEC block and use 3.90 pistons with a 3.25 crank built for alcohol then use the stuff for a supercharged TPI 305 to regulate it to pump gas.

      Besides bore & stroke none the Chevy 307 makes the more power of the 2. Cause that olds 307 is the definition of underpowered

    • @dcg748
      @dcg748 Год назад

      Actually the Chevy 307 in our '69 Chevelle was rated at 200 HP and 300 ft lbs, GROSS. The 307 Olds was available at 140 HP and also at 180 HP NET, so in reality the output of each basic 307 (Olds & Chevy) is nearly identical, and the VIN 9 Olds actually makes MORE power than the Chevy. The SBC was only ever available in low-performance, economy 2-bbl versions, and the VIN 9 Olds had a 4-bbl Q-Jet and was always paired with 3:73 gears w/ Posi and a 200-4R, which would absolutely leave our stock Chevelle in the dust (TH350 and 2.73 gears).

    • @chevrosmith
      @chevrosmith Год назад

      @@dcg748 you’re right on a lot of info you stated but sir to say the olds is stronger than the sbc is just blasphemy man, the olds #5 #6 #7 #7 A heads can’t outflow a factory set of vortec heads,you ever see any built olds 350’s on the dyno? They put out decent power at best but not like the sbc.

    • @dcg748
      @dcg748 Год назад

      @@chevrosmith ...Facts are pretty far from blasphemy. I'm a fan of everything GM, and I'm not choosing a side/brand. Simply stating the facts for 307 vs 307. Flow rates for various other SBO heads, or Vortec heads that didn't exist for over two decades after the last 307 Chevy left the assembly line, have no bearing on the issue or my original comment. I'm not saying Olds is better than Chevy, I'm simply stating that the two engines output essentially the same or similar amount of power if you actually compare them net vs net or gross vs gross, rather than gross vs net, or based on no facts at all. To call the Olds underpowered is to call the Chevy underpowered. And as I mentioned, the 180 net HP VIN 9 Olds literally & factually had a higher output than the 200 gross HP Chevy, as the "taxable horsepower' - as stated by Chevrolet - brought the net HP of the 307 SBC well below 180 net HP. And when you factor in the rest of the equation (driveline, gearing, weight, etc.) then an '80s Hurst/Olds or 442 with the VIN 9 Olds 307 was in every way faster than a '69 Chevelle Malibu with a stock 2-bbl 307, a TH350, and a 2.73:1 open differential, etc., and very likely faster than any 307 Chevy application offered in 1969, be it a Chevelle or a heavier pick-up, etc. I'm fully aware of the reputations of both engines, and of both engine families, I'm just clarifying the reality of 307 vs 307.

      @@michaelmoyer7466 Mine did exactly the same thing. When I got it out of a totaled 71 nova, it already had 100k. I did a super down and dirty re-ring bearing job. Threw in a stock replacement cam, performer intake and Holley 1850 600 cfm carb, and HEI ignition. I bracket raced that 8.0 230hp 307 for about 12 years, in three different cars. Put on at least another 100k, and THOUSANDS of drag strip passes. When the blowby started pushing past the seals, badly, I retired it. I did the same basic thing for a couple of 305's and a 74 stock 350. They just didn't care they just kept going, and going. One last thing. One day while at my local drag strip, with the hood open, I made the mistake of mentioning to a friend....." It might be cool to replace this 307, with one of those NEW LS motors that just came out". Next thing I know, it wouldn't start. Oh no! about an hour later, I found that the factory HEI Module, had quit.
      I replaced it, it started right up, and I apologized profusely for the insult. I got one time trial before eliminations. The race was a $1000.00 to win. I won the race with my 16 second 307, thm 350, 2.29 rear 78 Mailbu. It wasn't the first win, or the last. I NEVER made that mistake again. That was over 25 years ago. The 307, just DON'T CARE!
