BMW N20 (Z4) No Start When Hot Fix

My BMW Z4 has suffered from bad starts when warm even since I swapped the engine. It has been a 2 year journey of me trying to fix this hesitation on starts and after trying over 15 different things, I finally solved it! An engine that is hard to start when hot is a different item to troubleshoot as it can be so many different items. It could be a bad high pressure fuel pump or the fuel pressure sensor, it can be related to electronics where the crankshaft position sensor is fault or the camshaft sensor is sending false data to the DME. It can be as simple as a loose ground or positive wire on the engine, starter or the alternator and even injectors can make a huge difference to how an engine starts. On this BMW N20 engine, resolving the hard to start when warm was accidental and nothing I would even look for without changing the starter as a result of failure. Your patience with this issue is crazy. It's always important to make sure the new parts that you have are actually good. I got a defected blower motor from an OE BMW supplier and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Also ebay crankshaft sensors sounds like a bad idea lol
Luckily I had other projects to distract me from this issue, but I'm so happy it's fixed now. The reason I got a crankshaft sensor from eBay was strictly for testing purposes since it was like $20. Luckily I haven't had any new OE parts come back defective, that can be a pain!

This guys replaces all engine parts and sensors after replacing engine. Lmao
if you suspect pressure delivery, before you buy parts check fuel pressure after the first start. if it doesnt drop anywhere in the fuel lines then its not fuel delivery. if its a heat issue anywhere, cold start then immediately turn off. so everything should still be cold, start again, it shud start no prob if its a heat issue

What part did you replace to solve the problem
Had a bad relay on 2004 porsche cayenne. Same issue.
Cam sensor, oil temp sensor, fuel pump pressure regulator.
Thanks for video. Have almost same issue. Sometimes (8 times per 10) when engine is warm have long crank and really difficult start of engine. When it's cold - starts good. E92 N52B30

i have the exact same problem, but this problem just appeard after the turbo change because the first one broke. But when is in idling it stutters
Can it still be because of the starter??
Did your old one also make a zoom sound every 30 seconds? when it was off?
But we have the same not starting problem and WE DID NOT change engines. Now what???
I have same problem on my 1 series 1.6. warm not startind and I checked everything. I dont have satrt spot funkcion. Im geting code that my camshaft posision sensor is bad. I replaced them, but still same problem. Dont know what to look anymore. Fuel pump is fine also.

I have the same issue where idle will be really low or the car will struggle to start a little but only on cold starts. And not all of them. When its warm it starts right up. I've done fuel pumps and a lot of other stuff. Never got it to go away completely :/

You can enable start stop memory, to disable it...
Funny enough, I coded it to stay disabled and it would come back enabled after a few days. No clue how or why. Of course, the issue was the same when I would walk out of the grocery store or something and the car wouldn't start right..

Did you fix it? Mines doing the same thing. Stuck at work again tonight. The mornings it starts and runs fine.
Start/Stop systems serve no other purpose than to irritate the crap out of every car guy I know 🙄🤬
