Love the video and comparison with Frieren. While Frieren explores the aspect of what the effects of living past the lives of your loved ones and the regret caused by it while Spice and Wolf explores the current feelings and situations that occur and how she deals with it in the present and her getting over that and trying to have no regrets throughout the series is what makes Spice and Wolf a perfect series for me. Obviously a lot more than that but how they explore it and develop Holo and Lawrences feelings in the LN is truly the best romantic relationship I have ever seen in ANY and I mean ANY fictional medium. That along with the unique yet developed side cast and amazing plot is why I love this series to death and why its my favorite series ever created imo. Now to talk about the remake: Holo and Lawrence are back. And whatever anybody says about this remake not living u to the original (which is total bs) or whatever, we can all agree that despite our differences in our thoughts, they did Holo justice by making her tail *FLUFFIER.* Now for those who want to keep reading the rest of my thoughts, then continue if not, then scroll past but let me cook... FINALLY! After waiting over a DECADE and a HALF! It's FINALLY BACK! Everything from the Seiyuu's, the art, the style, the vividness, EVERYTHING IS AMAZING! Even down to the ED song and OP which both (especially the ending) calls back to the original OP and ED of the Older version. The close attention to detail in this first episode alone really has made a Avid S&W Connoisseur such as myself grinning from uncontrollable excitement! Not to mention how the story at the start of the episode was told from Holo telling (yk if you have read the LN or manga but I won't say for anime onlys) about her travels with Lawrence up to that point. I also LOVE the fact that they brought back Yarei instead of Chloe. I understand why they replaced Yarei with Chloe but glad to see them being fully faithful to the original (not saying that the original run wasn't) and this helps me believe studio Passione will do their absolute best to staying faithful from the beginning to end no matter the case. Also for my final point of discussion, with many older fans complaining about hoe the new style isn't original and unique and rustic like the old one, I agree with to a certain extent. But that being their reason for calling this remake "trash" or "unwatchable" is just crossing the. While I do agree it's lost a bit of its charm with the change of animation, I still believe this will help more people find out and discover the olny true SSS tier waifu you'll ever want or need. Along with the fact that it aligns with the LN art better than the older version which might or might mot be a turnoff for some but in a way it's already more "faithful" than the original for those who want to use the argument of saying "tHe oRiGinAl iS mOre fAitHfuL~". Another thing is CANNOT forget to mention how GODLY Kevin is with the OST?!?! He's really putting in the work and it shows. I'm so glad that we have been blessed with someone who is just as much invested into this project as we are. I'm sad that newer fans won't be able to hear the old OST's since they're so catchy and beautiful but Kevin is doing it justice so I give my MANY MANY thanks to him and everyone else behind this production. So either way I'm happy and content with this first ep. I hope to see how studio Passione will animate and direct the upcoming events in the story. I apologize for the long rant but since it's my favorite series ever created, how can I NOT be excited? Great review and you earned a sub!

I have been waiting for almost a decade and a half after all and after reading the Novels way back in the day (and currently still am with new releases) I'm just glad it's back in all its glory and I really hope for the whole series to get an adaptation. Also I would LOVE to hear about your gushing about the series I hold so dear to my heart. Of course, you don't have to but I would never reject a person wanting to talk about S&W. Its a great show for sure its technicly an anime based on a light novel but its very much so a proper novel doing its own thing. The remake is all around very well made and closer to the original material, one can see that a lot of people from the first adaptation are working on the current one, its basicly the same but the production value is better. Sure i have nostalgia for the old one especially for the old soundtrack but the new one is great as well and used better in the show while maybe not as good in a stand alone fashion. I really do enjoy the new show going with the more rounded character designs which would have been so hard to work with in the handdrawn style. The lenght of the season as well as the love put into it did have good success and at this point i am pretty confidend we will be getting a 2nd season down the line
As a guy who saw the 2008 version first, the remake is amazing. The music and voices are pretty much the same, but the visuals are far better than the original. The story is also the same aside from putting Yarei back and making Chloe a background character. I think the only people who claim the remake is worse are people blinded by nostalgia or people who haven't watched the remake
Yeah I can see the OG’s finding fault with the remake and I will be checking out the original eventually to see how different it is But I think we can enjoy both shows for what they are and be happy at what they bring
I agree that the remake is excellent. There are places where the OG did it better, but there are plenty more where the remake is clearly superior. Both are excellent series in their own right, and if you like the modern adaptation, you'll probably also like the OG.
I wanted to comment on your comparison with Frieren, because it's more apt than you may realize. The remake hasn't gotten far enough into the story to really feel the full effect, but a major theme in both series is how extremely long-lived beings persist in a word that is constantly changing, and how it can feel like they are being left behind. As Holo and Lawrence's relationship progresses, this becomes, as you would expect, a significant issue for them.
