Check the air filter and make sure its not leaking air around the filter (most popular cause of engine rev). Then could be a bad fuel to air mix problem so you might want to check and make sure your choke is adjusted right for what the engine needs to run smooth. There is a mechanism in the crank case area that makes minor adjustments to carburetor air flow to actually prevent surges but if something is blocking it from working correctly (bad oil or debris in the crank case can cause it to not function properly. Normally not an issue with new motors). When you start the engine you want to set the accelerator mid way with full choke. As soon as the engine starts running, reduce choke for smooth running. Once the engine has been running for a while you make want to check the choke is fully off so it won't burn fuel so fast. With the small tank on this tiller it will run out of fuel pretty quick. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it. Sounds like the carburetor needs a small adjustment. On some of the new stuff there isn't an adjustment screw. If it has one I'd adjust it in small turns.

Enjoyed your video. Sounded like Dale Jr. Doing a gardening show. I just got this same tiller and looking forward to getting it running.

i think the surge is in the design my dads troy built was the same way is the govener on the carb thats making the surge

That surging is the is most likely the the throttle body flap opening and closing few causes cap for tank vacume breaker issue , second is air ratio to Fuel mixture on the carb need adjustment I don't own this model but all engines work on this principal great video brother your little guy ready to work with his dad good stuff bud 👍

Id say new plug and always premium gas I want one of these so bad I like it I like it

  • @mikeharris2985

Sometimes there’s a fuel jet that may causes surging. Look up what causes an engine to surge more likely they will say it’s a jet that needs cleaning.

I loved my earthquake pioneer until the carburetor went bad three years after I bought it. I’m in Florida so I use my tiller all season all year. I’ve been waiting for six months for a new carburetor. The company said they’re from China and they can’t get them. They also said the carburetor on that motor doesn’t last that long which I can attest to only three years and I serviced it well did everything right. The carburetors only gonna be $23 when they come in and I’ll buy three extra ones but the problem is my $900 tiller has been sitting here for six months not being usable which makes it useless so I’m looking for a common motor on a common tiller, no more weird named motors for me anymore!

When I was using 1 I was like hmm lil different but I cranked it about as many times as you did and it started up bout died so I reved it a bit and it sounded better than that one smoother anyway but I tilled up some black berry vines it did pretty good a 2nd trip would've fixed it probably

    Is very good

I think the float is sticking. Mine did that and I tapped it with a screw driver handle.

I’ve had one since March and I’ve used it a ton only real issue I’ve fond it at this point both belts have stretched so much it isn’t really useable I’m probably going to have to get ahold of earthquake to get new belts. Otherwise it’s done a decent job. Didn’t break ground as good as I wanted so I had it plowed and disked up first but other than that does pretty dang good.

My troybilt did the same thing with the surging and it had a issue with the float in the carb. Had trash or something in it.

I got lazy and didn’t use stabil in one of my mowers before putting it away for the winter last year, same issue. Old gas maybe?

Put about a cup of Berryman's B 12 in every tank of gas it'll cleanup the fuel system. 👍🇺🇸

I had a tiller like that a few years ago, and it work like a champ and one day the engine blew up right there on the spot and it still sitting on the very spot it died I just work around it
