Thanks for the good info. On mine the lever end of the cable had circular loop instead of the z hook. It was mounted in place with a 3/8 shoulder bolt.

I have been looking for a video like this for a couple days now. I have a craftsman 17.5 hp shift-on -the-go silver series that has the exact setup as this. I was trying to find a video for my craftsman but could not find any that resembled my machine. After plugging in on youtube with my model and changed it to a deck engagement z-cable this 5 part Troy-Bilt video kept coming up in front of me. I click on it and what do you know, there is my exact type of setup! Thank you for posting and I can finally say...the rest is history!!

Thank you so much for these videos. I searched with frustrating results until I found this! Great filming, nice detailed explanations. I cannot get the "z" hook in the PTO lever either! I did a lot of research on my part, thinking that I surely ordered the wrong one. I was so glad you included this part in the video. I've seen other videos where they say "I put that part in over there while the camera was off". Not very helpful for me. I have renewed hope for this repair thanks to you. I will try to slightly enlarge the hole and try again tomorrow. Thanks again. I will sleep better tonight!

@@willardjones8171 very sorry, I only check messages once a day, and do not have number immediately. I could look for it, if you still need.

Just post the model number or link from where you bought it. That would be helpful for a lot of people.

Thanks for the videos, I was able to do it myself. Figured out it’s easiest if you connect the mount below the lever section last. That way there’s some slack to get that “S” piece in.

Well, it went so well. I enlarged the hole for the z hook, got everything else hooked up but when I tried to put the connector in the bracket (@ 1:28 in the video) the length between the z hook and the bracket connector is 1/4" too short! I'm guessing it's an aftermarket imperfection and I can't think of a way around it. I guess I'll order the OEM and start over. *sigh* Your video made it go like clockwork though. Thanks again!

I have a Troy-bilt auto bronco 46in cut. My question is, looking for some direction on replacing blade engagement cable. It's a 2019 model

Scotty Minter I apologize, But currently I’m not able to reply in a timely manner. Did you find what you were looking for elsewhere? If not, I’ll be glad to do a little research and get back a few days.

In hindsight, do you think it would be easier to replace the lever part before installing the spring?

Joshua Bolling, surely there would be some benefit to replacing that part, as well. However, there is no guarantee the new part would not need the same adjustment that the old part did upon installation. By the way, I really appreciate the comment as it has me thinking. :-)

It just looks like the most complicated piece to get in, and you did say "That took forever". I have to do this tomorrow when my cable gets in.

Joshua Bolling Awesome reply. Good luck

I was totally wrong. I tried attaching the spring second and it is almost impossible. There is very little room on the deck to maneuver, and trying to extend the spring while the cable is tight is practically impossible. I tried it your way and did it much faster and easier.
