The Punjab They Don't Show You 🇮🇳

  • Today we jumped on the local Indian bus and headed to a random small town here in Punjab.
Upon arrival we met a kind auto driver who helped me buy a turban and tied it for me ready to tackle the day here in Punjab.
The town of Tarn Taran Sahib has a beautiful Sikh temple so we headed inside to check it out, the water pond here is the largest of all the Gurudwaras and I have to say it was impressive.
We then experienced some classic Indian chaos and a lovely chap drove us round the corner to a street side kulcha spot for some lunch. The kulcha bloke was super hard working, made everything fresh and we couldn't have asked for better.
After that we wandered around the narrow old town streets, bought a box of delicious Indian sweets and drank some fresh street juices.
In the end we jumped back on the hectic local bus and had a chinwag all the way home with a top sikh lad we met on there.
Punjab is great the people here are super respectable and hospitable 🇮🇳

Ajanta is famous for rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments where you always get to see people visiting so it would be a mixture of people with history (I know you just don't prefer to cover historical place), and Ellora is a whole temple carved out of a hill. Dudh sagar falls is just a wow place, where you get to do a bit of trekking and particularly it is a heaven on wet days, I can relate it with the Aira Falls (a tiny version of dudh sagar) in Cumbria, the lake district in UK.

I'm impressed that you regularly use local buses to visit local towns
Tarn Taran Sahid looks a nice place. I see you visited Sri Darbar Sahib, which was built by Sri Guru Arjan Dev JI. It has the distinction of having the largest Sarovar(water pond) of all the Gurudwaras. It is the only Gurudwara, which is the replica of Shri Harminder Sahib, Amritsar. Also, it is famous for the monthly gathering of pilgrims on the day of amavasya(no moon light).
You cant go wrong with Amritsar kulcha..Apparently, it is known that Amritsari kulcha is endemic to Amritsar itself but according to some historical facts , the presence of the Kulcha can be traced back to the Mughal kitchens. It is said that Shah Jehan was presented with this stuffed kulcha once by his Khansama (royal chef) and the King loved it so much that it became one of the staples for breakfast and lunch and were praised immensely by the darbar. That is when it became famous among the Mughals and Nizams and travelled to the northern parts of India.😜

There are part of the LGBT+ community..Transgenders. Now recognised as the third gender. Have been around since ages. We pay them 10p and get blessed. They are also invited during childbirth to bless he child and marriages. They do not find work even if educated but now things are changing specifically in South India. Hence an old custom of paying them foe their food and living.

    • @Bretkrishnan

Transgenders are nastier in Bihar/UP and up north, but do not bother you much in South India. In case a transgender is born, their organisation may stake a claim to the child, though its not nowadays enforceable by law.
