I started to follow after you guys showed up on my feed. I moved from New York to DR, and I have the privilege to work from DR. I still get to make US dollars abroad. After I moved, I notice a lot of young people who went to school/college are working from DR, and that makes me happy. I wish everyone that have the option, would do it. I am living my live as a regular human being. I am enjoying my kids, wife and family. Keep the good work guys coming. Thank you for the videos.

Do not waste your time on haters!!!! You are producing content that is useful to people. At a minimum you provide perspective, hope, dreams! You would not believe how depressed folks are here in the States. We see our buying power decrease and savings being none existent. I mean, if we were to place our SS contributions in a bank, compound interest would exceed the cost of living. People that don’t understand how taxation work, are just wasting your time with those comments.

There are really three main perspectives. Each with a valid point of view.
Beer Index | Beauty Index | City vs. Countryside (el campo) vs. Tourist Zone (la playa)
    1) PPB Expat buying regular goods/services (aka ‘The Beer Index’). Your USD or EUR goes real far. Cheers! 🍻
    2) The DR City vs. Countryside vs. Tourist Zone price differential.
Most travelers (extranjeros) can relate to this. Prices change just like the Hood vs. high-end fancy part of town.
    3) “Beauty Index” for the ladies. Most hair salon and spa services cost much less in DR. Yet they get you with the foreign beauty and skincare brands. Those products keep pace with the USD/DOP exchange rate. Not much savings if any. 😢 💸💸💸

After watching you guys and doing a more in-depth research I am first coming to visit; then I plan to return to stay. I don’t clearly understand the Temporary Residency process for the DR. Great topic. People I know who live abroad often keep their money stateside. There is no question that living abroad has its advantages with the quality of life. I think a peace of mind has an equal or greater value. The concern often is with the political structure abroad. I say enjoy your best life and have no regrets. Life is too short to be living in a rear view mirror. Good job guys and keep living your best lives.🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿❤️.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on people interested in coming in the middle of the careers that are in highly skilled jobs that are licensed like accountants, nurses, financial advisors, doctors, lawyers, engineers. The cost of living in the US and the cost of education to obtain has really impacted these positions which could once get you to financial freedom. Now it’s still a challenge as the cost of the education alone can put you in a huge hole starting out.
Are highly skilled jobs in demand and is it possible to make a higher percentage of income after expenses? Because the squeeze in America gets bigger and bigger with home costs skyrocketing. Even rich people are struggling with property prices and mortgage rates. A home in LA going for $1-2M is a PAYMENT! For almost every income category, even with $300,000 cash down .

    • @NorberisR
      @NorberisR  4 месяца назад

All those jobs of course are available here. One would have to be willing to take a payout in many cases.

    1. the dollar should be used to start business or investing in something to make money not just consuming cheaper goods. 2 you qualify for social security benefits since you worked for 10 years in the us and you married to an american which give you spouse benefits. Now do some research because i got that from an article i read about social security benefits for expats.

On brightside, the Dominican Republic has a strong business partnership with the USA government and its business sector. Dominicans are more likely to buy an american products and services before buying non-american. Over 65% of foreign investment in the Dominican Republic comes from the USA. in year 2025 Dominicans will not pay any tariffs on American-made cars and other products. Starting 2025, you will start seeing more american cars being sold in DR.

Great video! To your point, it’s YOUR MONEY that YOU worked for and put into the system over years. It’s not a charity. You’re gonna’ pay taxes, [mis]management fees, lose value to inflation and all kinds of other intangible costs such as waiting for age limits, trusting companies & pension funds, etc. Whatever remaining funds you get at the end of the day, you’ve paid your dues. Anybody that’s pocket watching what you’ve worked for and wants to lecture you about stimulating the US economy can stimulate a foot up their @sses. Again, you’ve paid your dues. Another great video with good points. I would like to add that I have been on a pension for 9 years in the Dominican Republic and that pension is fixed, however inflation is not fixed so in essence it cost me more to live in the Dominican Republic now than it did 9 years ago. The inflation rate in both the Dominican Republic and the United States is about 4% so every year if you have a fixed income, you are 4% behind regardless as to which currency you use. In addition, the US dollar is currently the worlds reserve currency which is the reason it is so strong, however there is a move amongst anti-United States nations in the BRICS group that plan to replace the dollar as the worlds reserve currency. When this will happen, we do not know but sometime in the future we are likely to see a change in the influence and power of the U.S. dollar.

Yes wages generally reflect the local cost of living which is why wages are higher in New York and California. Corporations have production facilities in Asia , Mexico etc so individuals should be able to do the same.
I think the issue is that sometimes it too many foreigners move into a poorer country is that it raises prices. It’s called inflation. The hate is a side effect of a real
    Issue that can arise
Overall there is nothing wrong with moving to a lower cost country. Just respect the people and live your life.

I have a question/concern for you. Im a few years from retirement but as I see at the pace the D.R. is growing and people keep investing and migrating there, do you think there will come a day where living there will be equivalent as here in the U.S.??? D.R. is not a secret anymore! Curious to know your thoughts. Keep enjoying life the way you should, be safe and God bless you both!

I could care less what anybody think about my money that I worked for years to finally receive. I’m gonna enjoy my money in a country I can now get more bang for buck. There’s people that can’t even retire and live off their social security and pension because everything is so expensive. Putting money back into the economy is bs. Where I live, you have people in their late 60s early 70s doing door dash to make ends meet. It’s ridiculous. The people talk that nonsense about people leaving the country are usually haters who are knee deep in debt and can’t leave.

Sorry to let you know this is not totally correct for certain areas of the Dominican Republic. For example if you go to Las Terrenas, Puta Cana, Puerto Plata and other tourist areas, you're going to pay a 18% tax on most purchases and the prices are much higher than other areas. In addition the tip will already be included for most food places. Learn the exchange rate and the way to properly bargain. Get a currency converter app. One of the best ways to travel from city to city is on the Caribe Tours bus. Example a ticket from San Francisco De Macoris to Santiago one way is about $7.00 USD and these busses are on time, very clean and comfortable. Also take advantage of the drive by fruit and vegetable vendors. You can get some awesome deals. The other day we got 3 pineapples for $1 USD. Get the most out of the peso. Study the exchange rate and the fees associated with the exchange.

    1. Good video. I'll hit on the major points. Retirement,,401 K and SSI and state taxes are all taxed as income. The US is now trying to tax money that are in off-shore accounts since 2023.
    2. I think it's sad for a person look and talk down about the next man instead of learning and acquiring knowledge from that man to live a better lifestyle.
    3. Nixon took the US off the gold standard in 1972 to a standard of credit to allow people to be able to afford appliances, clothes over time (lay-away),,,, but really, it was a way to keep people in debt.
    4. Sanford and Son was derived from a British show called Steptoe and Son. "ELIZABETH, I'm comin to join ya honey" was the comic phrase by Redd Foxx's character. He, at the time had a XX comedy show in Vegas but wasn't paying taxes on his earnings which got him in trouble. Eddie Murphy kept him working until his death on the set of Royale Family.
    5. Without a plan for continuous income, stay put. Working at the casinos , resorts and restaurants do not pay well in DR.
