Sad that he passed away..his music will always live on. Afghanistan is such a beautiful country with its people. I am even an Afghan myself. Kabul tashakur.
To find this on RUclips was an enormous and beautiful surprise. Ustad Mohammed omar was the best, no one else has ever managed this quality of tone in rabab playing. If there are any other such videos please post them, they're invaluable!
thanks alot if u have more plz shear it with oss the vido clip meak me cry And iam a rubab player iam a student and i love omers rubab no one can play like he do . love rubab
I find this hauntingly beautiful. The playing is so full of feeling, and the instrument is so amazingly resonant. I can't wait to listen to more. Thanks so much for posting.
I've met Homayun Sakhi, he's a nice guy. But when I played for him a little I think he got jealous of me and started playing professionally in front of me. I didn't even notice until I watched the video I recorded him with me again. I still believe Ustad Mohammed Omar is one of the greatest and STILL is the best rabab player ever! I learned how to play rabab by listening to his cd with him and Ustad Zakir Hussain. You must listen to that cd it's wonderful..
yeah i see what you are getting at. it turns out afghan classical/folk has some similarities to bluegrass in its feel sometimes, so that might be what you're seeing. this shit is old school though, i assure you he's not doing things for western appeal.

For some reason, this kind of music touches my soul. Also, it is really easy to fall asleep to this.

thatd be tight, post some vids of what it sounds like!
Please tell me you are joking!
"I thought he just did that to gain western appeal."
You have SO MUCH to learn.
and one thing word rubab
RU is the word for soul in arabic And BAB is the word for Door in old pashto
so it the door to your soul and its true
peac
You don't have to listen to me..It's my opinion.
It's not the sound of the rabab that decides. It's the musician's hands and thoughts that decides it.
search Herat Rebab you 'll find also very nice Rebab videos!!!
Lol naturally this rabab is already amplified. But that would be awesome to have one of those built in amplifiers like for acoustic guitars. :P
We have a saying: "Ba Khar Yasin Khondan". It is natural that you don't understand his music.
thats better than closed minded people dominated by religion in my book
good song but I admintingly I view the dambura as the better instrument..

The link is no longer working.
my friends why do you fight to decide the best rabab player. Shouldn't the sound of the rabab decide it and not anyone's mouth.
