There is some misunderstanding in this thread about forgiveness. When the family says "I forgive you", it doesn't mean he's absolved and shouldn't be punished. What they are saying is they personally hold no resentment towards him.
An old adage goes "When you hold onto resentment, it's like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die".
By forgiving Dylann, the family removes the burden of hate and bitterness from their shoulders and gives it up to God. One could argue forgiveness is purely selfish since the only person it benefits is the person doing the forgiving, however in the Christian tradition, there is the belief of redemption, that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and although here on earth we punish wrongdoers, God is willing to forgive a repentant sinner.
I'm not sure if this makes any sense, but I thought I would take a stab at it.

***** In this case forgiveness has done much more and they did it for far more reasons than you state
they wanted to send a clear message to others and the other black people who would be very angry far more than in the police cases as this violent act struck at the one of the most important churches to the civil rights movement and had special significance to them, it struck at the heart of the black community the black church as an institution dear to the hearts of blacks everywhere that means so much to so many blacks and it struck and mowed down the best of blacks and the most innocent 4 ministers and mostly old black church ladies
If anything could start a race war, anger and violence this act could but by this demonstration of how they wanted this handled and their repeating hate will not win love will win, they sent forth a message that totally changed the potential reaction and said this is how we want this and the people honored their wishes
Black and whites came together bringing flowers hugs, comfort and prayers, bringing such a demonstration of the good people in America who only see and think bad things about americans to the world
This was the pivotal moment and God promised if we love and obey him (which they do) then he will bring good from bad and many believe that great good will come of all this and these families were the catalyst as well as the heinousness of the crime so great forgiven by those it hurt the most
I have already tried to forgive those who have hurt me in life and heard of others doing this after thinking of their sterling example How it stirred our hearts and shocked us making this decision of will so soon after the shootings and deaths of their loved ones
Trust me this was not done for selfish reason but to let their light shine and how fitting that they all sang this little light of mine I'm going to let it shine on the bridge united... it was the exact verse I thought of when someone said they were doing it to show off and God hates it
Hopefully I had set that person's wrong thinking straight

I heard the words of the families of the victims, I cried and cried. tt was so moving to hear the the words of the family members.
I cannot believe the killer (and the guards for that matter) showed no emotion to this display of grace and faith in action.
It must have been so hard to do so soon after the murders when they were so affected by this tragedy. Their relatives killed would be so proud of them all.
It sort of reminds me of when Reginald Denny the trucker beaten and brain damaged during the LA riots who chose to forgive his attackers. It might be the only thing that might reach the perpetrators of crimes like these.Even if those who did this are ot moved or could care less, these words help those who hear them.
I marvel at the souls of those who can do this,,,in unity they acted and poured out a little of their soul and feelings.
It helps to remind us that good people still exist in this country as well as the outpouring of love from people in the community and country.
It is a testament to the goodness of those at the church that night who were so nice to the man that he said he almost did not kill them..this is a testament to them that their last act of their lives taken so soon and unjustly was something so in harmony with the teachings of Christ.
May God have mercy on the souls of the victims and bless them into eternity May God help in every way the many friends and families affected by this, heal the community and not let further hated come from this horrible event. May he help the loved ones not only now in the beginning when they get a lot of support but down the road when the pain really sets in when the shock wears off and few of there. May people continue to support them in the way they each require.
I am so sorry this happened.

But you should know this and that is God is very upset with the horrible choice you made. But here's another thing and that is God is merciful, loving and kind. Because he sent his only son, Jesus Christ to redeem the world by dying on the cross and rising from the dead. Anyone who believes in him will never die in the next life. And I also want you to know that you're on my rosary prayer list and hoping that during your jail time, you'll pray to God, kneel down and ask him through Jesus to renew your life and ask the Virgin Mary to help you also. And if you truly repent of your crime, then ask the judge to give you another chance to redeem yourself. I hope and pray that you change your ways and become a disciple of Jesus like me. • @wowbenji
      @wowbenji 9 лет назад

April Watters I think for most it is a matter of being willing to forgive and acting as if you have- knowing that it will take time for the forgiveness to be fully felt as this often takes time..when we express we forgive. even though the anger has not fully abated etc, God counts that as forgiveness to our credit.
Also they chose this as they knew it is what their family killed would want and would reflect upon who they were and the faith in jesus they had as he promises he will repay (whether in this life or the next),
The forgivnes they expressed is an act of will not a feeling for some at this point..that they those to do this and let god help them to heal shows their haracto. This also might be the only opportunity to gt this guy to feel some remorse as he might dwell on what they said in the siklence of his cell.

Real Christians forgive no matter what. Through death it strengthens them, and Christians hope for him the same. I am Christian however don't forgive his actions nor will I ever. But, the Devil is a bad thing and I hope he is put in prison for life. The death penalty,is too easy.

    • @wowbenji
      @wowbenji 9 лет назад

pT Cresent well I do disagree with your first statement
Real Christians are those who have accepted the free gift of salvation Free means we can in no way deserve it as we are reminded all our righteous are as filthy rags and it is only by the blood sacrifice Jesus did on our behalf that we who believe Jesus was raised formt he dead and took our sins and paid the price for them all and then accept that free gift are saved individually
      "
For it is by faith you are saved not works lest any man should boast"
Being Christians does not mean we follow all the law and things in the bible
Jesus taught we will always struggle in life to be what Jesus already sees us as --sanctified-- as when he rose we who were "in him" also rose to a new life and the old man (Adam) is dead
We who are ashed in his blood ae already saints even if we are sinning as he looks at us and sees we have washed our sins in the blood of the lamb and he exchanged his white robes for our filthy sin laden ones --and all our sins, paxst, present and future are already forgiven
We do not always demonstrate what God has counted us as for all eternity back then before we even had been born for in this life making him lord is not a condition of being saved but rather a reslult coming slow in some and faster in others
Only belief and acceptance in his finished work on the cross haas saved us but the more we depend on the holy spirit to make us more Christlike, the more which is true in the heavens becomes visable on earth
These we have seen do this difficult thing at the hearing are strong Christians who are more progressed than some in their walk with Christ but nonetheless, even sinners who trusted in Jesus to save them are also Christians those thesy may not as well follow the commands
Being carnal means you might miss all the good things you coiuld have done that God had for you and the blessings that come from being obeidant to the Lord It means maybe you will be saved but your good things not done will lose you rewards but it will not lose you salvations so those Christians who cannot yet forgive are still real christians
Jesus accepts us where we are
Some Christians are carnal and have not achieved the level of santification others have but they are nonetheless saved and real Christians Thee are called carnel or fleshy Christians
Eventually good works should show up in the course of a life if saved The holy spirit and one's abiding in him leads to a holier life and sanctification but all Christians don't forgive no matter what as it takes a lot and a strong walk with the lord to reach that level these were chrristians who modeled a storng chirstian walk with God
For more on this see the book by Hal Lindsey called amaxzing grace one of the best books to explain these biblical concepts and what actually hapened back there at calvary strong reviews avaliable at amazon
      www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grace-Hal-Lindsey/dp/0964105845/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435542292&sr=8-1&keywords=amazing+grace+hal
The death penalty might seem the easier way but if he has not repented or trusted Jesus, he will not make it to heaven and his torment of much greater magnitude will begin sooner

If you ever get a chance to talk to these young mass murders, which I have, and or study them, then you would know that what they want is to be famous or infamous. By putting this guys picture up and making him famous / infamous then you are not only giving him what he wants you are also, encouraging the next kid to conduct a mass murder. These are not my words or my hypothesis. This is what has been said by the actual murders themselves. They want to be more popular then the last murder, they want(ed) to murder more people, they wanted to cause a bigger scene. And when the media continues to post their picture everywhere it encourages the other potential murders do follow through with there intentions........but hey so what right, as long as it doesn't happen to you or any of your family or friends.

Do you really need to see his face posted everywhere to "know why people do what they do".
Is it that important to you that you see his face and you give him want he wants and that this media coverage Does ( not may but does) cause other young mass murders to follow through with their twisted since of justice.
I will agree with you that most people do want to know the who , what, whens, and where's, that is just human nature. Can you agree then, that if there is a chance that NOTshowing this mass murders face everywhere would stop another mass murder then, Isn't it worth not showing his face and giving him what he wants.

Randy Bailin Because. If the family cries out for blood, then whats gonna stop people from turning in to vigilantes and just hunting down every skin head and murdering them for payback. That's what they mean by not letting hate win. He killed those people with the hopes of stirring up more tension between blacks and whites. Instead of letting this make things worse, we should use it as an opportunity to make things better. Stitch it on a pillow, I know, but forgiveness is a good place to start, it's the christian thing to do, and this kid is no longer relevant. It's what we do as a country now that's relevant. He's just a sicko that's going to rot in prison until the day he gets put down. What happens to him is pretty much set, and hate isn't gonna fix anything.
