    You should have titled this video 'Lion's mane vs CBD + THC for sleep'. I believe there is scientific literature showing that THC can have a negative impact on REM sleep (and also demonstrated by your n=1 experiment). You should have used a pure CBD tincture. In my own experience, pure CBD seems to boost both my deep AND REM sleep. Also, I'm not sure where you're shopping for CBD, but here in Hawaii I'm able to get good quality CBD tinctures (a 250mg bottle) for about $10. Overall great video and thanks for sharing your results!

    • @katie_moore
      @katie_moore  4 года назад +7

      Hey! Thanks so much for watching and for the thoughtful comment! I totally see where you're coming from. The THC amount in the Papa and Barkley product I was using was so negligible (30:1) and on their website they list that it as "non-intoxicating." I've definitely read that THC can negatively impact REM sleep but I've also seen some studies that show small amounts can have a synergistic effect on CBD. It's called the "entourage effect" -- the theory that all the compounds in cannabis work together, and when taken together, they produce a better effect than when taken alone. Of course, there's so much emerging science about CBD these days so probably have to take it with a grain of salt. But I'll definitely consider repeating the experiment with a pure form of high-dose CBD and if my results drastically differ, I'll do another video on it! And wow!! Sounds like Hawaii is the place to be right now :)

    • @Randimal762
      @Randimal762 4 года назад +1

      @@katie_moore That's the first I've heard of that "entourage effect"...very interesting! The shop I get my tinctures from also sell tinctures with several other cannabis compounds (excluding THC), or they have pure CBD tinctures (the one I buy). Maybe I'll try the "full-spectrum" tincture sometime! The CBD oil I use says it's made in Hawaii but the CBD itself is extracted in Colorado lol. I'm looking forward to more of your videos...I can see you've already reviewed many of the same products and health-hacks I've tried!

      @@katie_moore How about a reishi mushroom extract vs. pure CBD (sleep) comparison? Reishi mushroom is better known for it's benefits on sleep than any other mushroom that I'm aware of. I've been enjoying Four Sigmatic's Reishi Elixir in the evenings...the taste was actually a little too funky at first, then after I acquired the taste, I actually look forward to drinking it! BTW, I'm also a huge fan of FourSig's mushroom coffees and have been using them daily!

      Lion's Mane and other mushrooms are adaptogens, meaning they take 1-2 months to take effect.
      You should also space out the time between testing the CBD after finishing the Lion's Mane, so the lingering effects ware off and aren't so pronounced perhaps.

    I did learn something, the differences between how the CBD drops me into deep sleep (kind of makes my active dreaming take a back seat), vs The Lion's Mane works on REM sleep. I use CBD on the nights I have extra body pain from physically over doing it. Looking forward to the Lions mane from Wild Kingdom, arriving today. As I am older I can sure use the cognitive boost of the mushrooms. All very interesting. Thank you for education.
    Additionally, I like the Papa and Barkley brand because they are a CA based company and all their plants are grown natural sunlight. Nothing but MCT oil and cannabis. I like it clean. Also, under the tongue will give you faster absorption, hold it there for about 1 min.

    This is my experience. I take CBD + THC for my adrenals (as I've had chronic fatigue for 25 years). Works wonders, can't be without it. However discovered much of my fatigue came from eating gluten. So gave up all grains (felt much much better). As I was still on dairy and only just found out I was lactose intolerant, I kept having it and my stomach is now hurting, along with nerve pain (I'm sure it will repair).
    I also take Lion's Mane for a very deep sleep (for a chronic insomniac, I can now achieve 9 hours on Lion's Mane). It also keeps me in a deep sleep while I have stomach and nerve pain. I notice that while I have pain in the night, it hurts to turn on the bed (clenching teeth) - at least I can drift off into a deep sleep again until 7am because of the Lion's Mane.
    But by itself, I felt that the Lion's Mane made me feel as if I can't wake up the next day.
    Today, I took a Turkey Tail to get that 'wake up' feeling. I felt bright eyed and ready to go at around 10am. I'll continue with the LM at night, and TT in the morning.

      Totally get it about the CBD and it's just not worth taking a risk with your job! But for the Lion's Mane...I would start with one dropper full at night (maybe 30 min before bed) and see how that works for a few days. Have you gotten the Oura Ring yet? If you're looking for a bit of a focus/cognition effect during the day, you could definitely take a dropper in the morning as well. I tend to find that works great on days when I have to crank on editing a video; it really helps to put me in the focus zone.
