Playing Jolene on repeat at 224am, alone, on a full moon night in August. I've lived in four places and I've had moments playing this song in every one of them. Driving back mountain roads in the smokies, walking the rainy Streets of New Orleans, and now here singing along in humid rust belt Pennsylvania. Never been to Spokane, but I've lived this song. It takes me back to somewhere I've been too long, and takes me back to somewhere I've never even been at all. God bless you Ray LaMontagne. Your poetry and your voice is better than any therapy I could ever find.
I’m from Spokane and this is definitely the kind of place where, down on your luck you, might sell your coat for a pack of smokes. Dirty streets surrounded by pine forests, beautiful and perfect for a song like this
Good always triumphs over evil. Ray is so good. So is SADE. And there are many of us in the world. I always try to remember that I am not alone. Fear Not, right? JulieAnnRathbun,ESQ /MA
This song really hits me every time I hear it. So beautiful and moving in ways I can’t even describe. Ray, thanks for your lovely music, it fills my heart.
I cry to your songs at times, before i found your music im not sure if i ever really believed or knew someone else out there could understand to the depths of your music ray of how i have felt my whole life myself until i found your music. It's beautiful the music you make and in a way, it has given me the strength to go on in my own life. Thank you
I honestly was just thinking about a time in my life a few years ago that I lost faith and hope and honestly was scared that I would make it through some days. I learned to listen, really listen to music and it helped me through those darks months. First time I ever cried listening to a song was from Ray. What an amazing gift he has and chooses to share with all of us. Music really does bring people together 💜
Cocaine flame in my bloodstream Sold my coat when I hit Spokane Bought myself a hard pack of cigarettes In the early morning rain Lately, my hands they don't feel like mine My eyes been stung with dust, I'm blind Held you in my arms one time Lost you just the same Jolene I ain't about to go straight It's too late I found myself face-down in a ditch Booze on my hair, blood on my lips A picture of you, holding a picture of me In the pocket of my blue jeans Still don't know what love means Still don't know what love means Jolene Ah, la, la, la, la, la Jolene Been so long since I seen your face Or felt a part of this human race I've been living out of this here suitcase for way too long A man needs something he can hold onto Nine-pound hammer or a woman like you Either one of them things will do Jolene I ain't about to go straight It's too late I found myself face down in a ditch Booze in my hair, blood on my lips A picture of you, holding a picture of me In the pocket of my blue jeans Still don't know what love means Still don't know what love means Jolene La, la, la, la, la, la, la Jolene La, la, la, la, la, la, la Jolene
I had discovered Ray in 2008 through a random reality show on TV. He was my friend and is in my lonely teenage years and now an adult. From, Bombay, India
I remember my Ray Lamontagne fave. I listen to every single song for months on end. Now my baby dad and his wife are both fans. I love it for them, he knows how to hit the spot, and I don’t mind sharing him. ❤
Just watching an episode of Fire Country -Welcome to the Cult and I heard this amazing voice and this amazing song coming through the characters car radio, for all of 15 seconds, and I had to know who it was.♥♥♥ Wow! I love your voice, your style, your soul. Beautiful. 💞Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. 💞🙏God bless you Ray LaMontagne. 🙏
I am so intrigued by your voice. It's almost like you have read the diary of my heart and put music to my soul. Thank you for sharing your incredible gift 💜💜💜
Xoxo my boy Dubsy and the prettiest girl this side of the Mississippi, Jettsy… I love hearing y’all sing this to each other….its jam and jelly moments to live for
This track always sinks in my late 20's. Me doing dumb shit and F-ing up a relationship. I was to focused on alcohol and leaving home. USMC late 90's early 00's. Later in in life I found the girl of my dreams.
Remembering the first time I heard Ray. Such a subtle man. Tossled hair, and dressed plain and unassuming. Then this booming voice swelled out of his throat, demanding my attention!! I was a fan immediately! His dynamics are perfect in this song as he brings it down to a more personal level. Love his music!
I havent listened to this song in 10 years. I loved it then and i think maybe even more now. This is story telling, performing and writing at its finest.
This song reminds me of an ex of mine that i miss. He could never get out of the game and then prison and the game again and back to behind walls. 😔 i had to let him go but never stopped caring about him.
I gotta learn this one. You got so many great songs ray. You are grossly underrated. If only more extremely famous musicians had your talent the radio waves wouldn't be filled with all the junk it is these days. Hope to hear some new music from you Ray. God bless you bub.
I heard you on tv years ago--ran fast to get my daughter, Jenna Rose. We both fell for your voice, your songs, your acoustic style,I heard Trouble first. Then she listened to you with The Staves and Justin Vernon, in Berlin, doing "Jolene". Her boyfriend told me it was one of her faves! Tomorrow is her birthday-well, today by US EST. Jenna Rose died after fighting and beating 5 brain tumors with three surgeries. No complaints. But then she got Cancer, all stage 4-more tumors than could be counted. But still no complaints. She was an artist, a painter, a multi-media lover, a photographer, a computer whiz who was working on playing around with her pix, etc. digitally, but had REAL cameras, a writer, animal lover and knower there of, friends forever and a day all over the world for decades on veggie forums, and the like. so, I am listening to you and I am saying Happy Birthday to my sweet girl. Thank you so much! And do I ever love The Staves! Her Mom, Terri
How does this song have only 3k likes? We live in a tragic society when art like this is barely noticed and ultra processed songs with insanely stupid lyrics get millions of likes. Sad.
Wow I thought I had my post all ready. Until I read the comments. Me 🤔 What do I say to kids of single mom that Ray hasn’t already said.. oh yeah .. I got your back. We are mighty we are strong. We are the future.. We built this country on rock ‘n’ roll. Don’t forget it oh and we also built this country on Customer Service and the Internet

Cocaine flame in my bloodstream
Sold my coat when I hit Spokane
Bought myself a hard pack of cigarettes
In the early morning rain
Lately, my hands they don't feel like mine
My eyes been stung with dust, I'm blind
Held you in my arms one time
Lost you just the same
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face-down in a ditch
Booze on my hair, blood on my lips
A picture of you, holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
Ah, la, la, la, la, la
Jolene
Been so long since I seen your face
Or felt a part of this human race
I've been living out of this here suitcase for way too long
A man needs something he can hold onto
Nine-pound hammer or a woman like you
Either one of them things will do
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face down in a ditch
Booze in my hair, blood on my lips
A picture of you, holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Jolene
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Jolene
Unreal.

His songs are my all time favourite. Also from India. Keep digging, there are many less recognised gems.
Here from India too! Corey Taylor brought me here
Good to see my fellow Indians appreciate good music.

In the commentary on the blu ray - Ben talks about him wanting to have this for the credits bc it moves him so much everytime he hears it
For my daughter, Jolene 💖💞

This is the best live version of this song I've watched/heard. Such a talented artist.
Best version of this song hands down! Ray, your voice was blessed by both the angels and demons of the world. Beautifully haunting
I’ll love you Forever Jo’lene, thank you for changing my life. Sorry I couldn’t be the person you needed, I’ll always hold you in my heart. Jesse
Sometimes, I just need to hear this song and then press repeat! Love this song! Great vocals.
Beautiful. Such lyrics and intensity. Poetry….and Rays voice really has that rugged sensitivity that makes you feel every word.
I've loved like that, Ray. Thanks again for the honesty!
I remember seeing this as an add for aol live sessions back in like 2006. I’ve been mesmerized ever since
I love how he lets the D-28 sing. And has the feeling of having too much fun and then misery in the city afterward.
Here to feel the goosebumps all over again.
How the hell is this man's voice so amazing
That was great!
I am so intrigued by your voice. It's almost like you have read the diary of my heart and put music to my soul. Thank you for sharing your incredible gift 💜💜💜

Takes some time to mature. Sometimes we even survive it to the sweet spot of real connection.
Just watched The Town - Ending Song. Sad song. Great song. Strum on, Ray
Still here I see. Congratulations on having excellent taste in music.

Welcome to mankind
It’s truly tragic
It makes me feel sad. But,most are so apathetic. They or their loved ones are drudged out or passed.
