What a beautiful model collection. Being a modeler since 1965, I understand that this is not just a collection. It's a huge part of your father and his interest and skill in the hobby. Didn't surprise me that he also built the display shelves. Non modelers don't get it. Peace to you and yours from America. :)
I have since sold this entire collection to Stoker Models, situated in Greenlane, Auckland, New Zealand. They are specialists in dealing with 2nd hand models. I believe that quite a number of these aircraft are real collectors items not available any more. If you have any interest in purchasing any of these models suggest you contact Colin at Stoke Models Ph 006495201737
Truly amazing! If I may take some of your time to read this message. Your father was a perfectionist. His experience of making cabinets has shone through. Everything you look at these as I do will give you happiness and pleasure. I collect diecast model aircraft and I do this as hopefully they shall be worth something for my daughter to remember me by in the years to come. It is quite simply a truly staggering collection my friend. If only I could retreat what your late father did time and time again. Take care and all the best from the UK my friend
Hi Ray. I do hope the collection was sold complete . It would be such a shame for that not to happen. I presume by now a deal has been done it would be terrific and a lasting legacy if a museum were to be the fortunate recipients. Terrific collection and l think some rare editions. Thankyou for giving us the privilege of seeing your father's passion.
Gorgeous collection! Years ago I dreamed of building as many aircraft types as I could. The problem I ran into was OCD. I didn't want to just build a Curtiss P-1. I wanted to build a P-1, P-1a, P-1b etc. The other problem was that I'm poor and live in an apartment, so space is at a premium. Instead, I build a handful of World War 1 aircraft, sticking to the oddballs. I do have one plane in a museum - the Boeing 299, the prototype B-17. As I said, a collection to be proud of.
An aviation historical society that will appreciate this awesome and historical collection . An aviation museum . Do not sell this you may regret it . In these societies devoted to aviation history this collection will live for ever . Once again thank you .
You have to wonder what happens to our collections after we are gone. I imagine most of mine will go to the tip as my kids and grandkids have no interest. Stunning collection from your dad and hopefully it has gone to a deserving collector.
Absolutely amazing, and very inspirational. You can tell he put a lot of care and dedication into that collection! Also if we look at the numbers, at 148 models, if he had have theoretically completed 1 per month, it would take more than 12 years to have completed them all. A truly staggering amount of work went into that collection :)
I recognize most of those kits. Many are from the very large Airfix range of 1/72 scale aircraft, some are from Revell, some from Frog, some from Monogram, and some from Heller. Probably other companies as well. I built a great many of these myself over the years, starting way back in the early 1960's.
I built so many of those same kits. Great job committing the collection to video. Lots of rare birds in that collection. ....You might also consider spending a laborious day taking still closeups of details, such as any custom work or detailed painting, then make a collage, and post said collage.
Very well built and detailed. I'm about the same timespan having 180 in 72nd scale as well. However, constant relocation had me build a cabinet of clear plexiglass and wood. Each level is about 12 inches high, 32 X 42 inches with 1 to 2 slideout clear shelves. Each section carries like a suitcase when not stacked, everything secured by clear plastic wire and lighted. It stands 7 feet high...it's worked out very nicely except for one thing. It's a sealed cabinet BUT it still has DUST! One thing I found out from my early planes on the ceiling is DUST...no regrets to the hobby though...
Beautiful collection. Though I think a couple planes are of different scales, the P51 and F82 seem to be. So awesome though, as kid I remember building many of the kits you have here, they are all long gone. I have 3 fighters now, and 2 dozen cars, to restart myself in the hobby.
I was in VP-48 in the late seventies, early eighties. VP-50 was one of our sister squadrons. You may have been told this before, but the main cabin door on your P-3 model is incorrectly installed. The door opened in and then slid sideways like an airliner. This is not to take away from your work. You have a great collection!
I don't see anyting wrong in selling them. Agree with P. Gerald, bit I think that there must be a lot of parties interested in them as a whole piece of collection or as individual pieces. A musseum might be interested. I wound not be surprice if such a superb collection had not been sold by now. I would keep a complete photographic record of each piece as a memento of my father's interest but I'm gonna be honest as a frustrated modeller , since I myself have tried ton put together some of the planes shown (B25, B17, Corsair..): preserving this collection requires dedicación...time and sharing the very same love and passion obviously invested in them.
WOW, I am duly impressed and with good reason. Wow, just wow !!!!!! Thank You for letting us see His (Now Your) collection. I can not express how much I wish I had the money to buy every last model He/You have. Especially being built by someone who obviously had a love for it. They would be adored and guarded with life and limb.
Hi All. Thanks everyone for all your kind and positive comments on my late fathers awesome model aircraft collection. I only posted the video as an aid to selling it on behalf of the my mother and the family, little did I know it would get so much attention in fact 57,527 views to date. I apologize for the lack of response to the many questions in many languages but the responses have been a bit overwhelming, I don't know enough about the the details to answer many of the questions and also as previous posted by me the entire collection has since been sold to Stoke Models in Newmarket Auckland. Arc Light Wish people would reply to questions on here otherwise don't bother posting......see below. REPLY To Arc Light - sorry if my non reply has wasted your precious time, obviously from the massive response (all very positive except yours) tens of thousands of viewers have enjoyed it so I guess it was worthwhile posting it. If you ask me your question again (I cant find it in the masses of comments) I would be happy to try address your question if I can. Cheers Ray
My mistake, or the a/c at 01:05 must be an F6F-3, bacause in the F6F-5, the small windows, after the sliding canopy, had been eliminated in the production line at Grumman's.
That is so amazing. Really. I think some museum would be thrilled to have such a collection. One comment: Many of the models look like 1:72, but not all. Some of the larger models, and some of the modern jet fighters are probably 1:48 scale.
Not only impressive, TOTALLY AWESOME, the collection should be in an aviation museum. Thanks for sharing.
This video was so sincere and beautiful. It’s made me misty eyed for sure. A wonderful tribute to your late father and his work.
This collection is by far the best ive seen and the organisation and presentation is incredible!

Beautiful and awesome collection. Your Dad did very good.

I came up in the '60s & '70s and model airplane building was alive & well. Things have changed in the 21st century. Wonderful collection here.
I enjoyed modeling as well. I thought I had a good collection. This collection was only in my wildest dreams.
A wife's absolute nightmare.
You are my absolute nightmare
Yes it is kkkk
Not if she has any sense. Shuts the door and says that's your room to clean.

I’ve never seen a model of a PaPa three Charlie with the port side crew access door open and the boarding ladder attached. Beautiful touch!
Love the P3, C130, and the Massive B2. Fantastic job.
I wouldn't have guessed ALL these models could be found at the 1:72 scale. Impressive/immaculate builds and collection!
You wouldn't believe all the others available, from the 747 to the Cayley 'Coachman Glider' of 1852.

What an absolutely fantastic and highly impressive model collection!
Such a beautiful collection.
Absolutely a stellar collection.
an amazing collection. my Grandfather had a similar one. wish I could've kept one or two of them!
A beautiful collection of very well made models. A museum would be the best place for them.
Very impressive collection of beautifully made models.
As a 1:72 scale model builder this is really impressive I’ve been building for 3 years now and I only have B25 B29 B18 P36 and the spitfire m3

Same with the Lancaster I think
Gentleman's scale, just like me. I hope this collection went somewhere that will treasure it...
