    The bob Ross of liqueur. I see Green lantern in the background. I grow my own raspberries, blueberries, apples, grapes, currants, elderberries, and honeyberrys. This looks like a fun thing to try with all the extra fruit. How do you store the jars? Do you sample once a year and add sugar as needed?

    • @chycho
      @chycho  5 лет назад +17

      What you're growing sounds like a great start to an amazing liqueur collection... as for how I store them, what you see is what you get. I usually just have them sitting out in a corner of the house and whenever I feel like a little drink, I hit them up. I basically decide to either add sugar or more vodka as I sample them, some I do more regularly than others, of course, such as the lemon liqueur, that's my default to go to drink.

    • @LimoneneDaddy
      @LimoneneDaddy 5 лет назад

      I had thought Limoncello had other stuff infused into it i.e. not just sugar plus lemons in a mason jar or airtight container? as Ive tried probably over 20 different types and varieties and some have an almost menthol-like taste/finish to them while of course some seem to be just lemon? what did you use for yours? don't have to write the whole step by step process / directions just wanted to know the ingredients,more or less.. thanks respect from the East Coast of the US but Italy and Italian food (and drink, of course!!) is/are my favorite :)

    I drank a lot of different stuff from teens to 20s, now coming up on my 30s I find myself only liking very small amounts of really strong, tasty, stuff. "Likör", in swedish, is one thing my father always drank a bit of when I was young. He got some kind of bottle, teated to his friends at gatherings, enjoying it... Seeing this video I realize two things: I can make my own "likör", and my dad is getting something awesome for his birthday next fall. ;)

Also, did any one else feel an overwhelming wave of relief when he FINALLY put a label on a jar at around the 1hr18min mark, or was it just me? And not just any label, but a thorough and complete label of info. For real, that was a more satisfying ending to a video than any of the ones for Bandersnatch that I watched earlier today on Netflix. You’re a gem, Chycho. Keep on keepin’ on, brother.

    Great liqueur tour Monsieur Cycho. Have you ever made Kahlua, which is a coffee liqueur? You use coffee, vodka, light brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Great for making White Russians (pour over cream or half and half over ice) or Black Russian (pour one part Kahlua to two parts vodka on the rocks). Great gift to give for the holidays.

    • @chycho
      @chycho  5 лет назад +2

      No. I've never made Kahlua but there was a period in my life that I drank a lot of White Russians. That drink is magic, so delicious, and the alcohol does its thing while the cream keeps you full so you don't really get the munchies :)

    Chycho, I made several liqueurs this fall, and after infusing the fruits to the level I wanted, I drew off and filtered the liquids into swing top bottles and refrigerated to finish their mellowing. I wanted to have a few of them pourable along with my Limoncellos for the holidays! I just topped up the reserved fruits in their original jars with more vodka without adding sugar. Is that a dood way to go?

    • @chycho

      @@chycho Yes, I am not a big fan of super sweet drinks. My blueberry ended up too sweet, very blueberry flavor though. I saved a little room in the swing top bottle and added some vodka. Now it is perfect! To me, if they’re too sweet they taste like cough syrup. Lol

      @chycho  5 лет назад +1

      Great timing, Jimmy. I actually made my first batch of pomegranate liqueur about three weeks ago and tasted it a few days ago, so tasted it about two and half weeks after setting it. The color on it was amazing, beautiful red but the taste was a little too sharp, so it's going to need to sit for a few weeks for the taste to be more palatable (less pure alcohol). Suffice it to say, I'll be making more as soon as I get my next batch of pomegranates... i really liked it and both the color and the taste will improve with time (I expect the color to get darker).

    • @chycho

      You don't really need that much heat, room temp should almost do. Try this, put it together, give it a shake, then leave it on the counter at room temp. Take a look at it in a week or so to see if the sugar is dissolving. If it is, even slowly, then let it sit for another week and check again (you can even taste it now to see how the flavor is coming together). If you find that the sugar is not dissolving then why not, put it in front of the heater and see where it takes you. Let us know how it works out :)

    You never disappoint, dude! Great video as always! Can I ask one or two questions? After you've bottled (jarred?) your ingredients, how long will you leave them exposed to sunlight? Do you recommend leaving them in a cool or warm dark place after that? Sorry if you mentioned that at some point in the video. It's an hour and a half long, and I might've missed that.

    • @chycho
      @chycho  5 лет назад +2

      No worries about the questions, brother.... 1) I leave them in the sun long enough to have the sugar dissolve. Sometimes you need to give it a shake every now and again. As well, I ended up adding a lot of sugar this time around, think I have a sweet tooth thing going right now, so I don't expect all the sugar to dissolve for most of these, which is okay. Once we have some of it, I'll just add more vodka but no more sugar, so slowly as I refill the bottles, they become less sweet until I decide to add more sugar.... 2) as for storing them, I've stored them both in cabinets with the doors closed (so a dark place) as well as leaving them out the way I have now. I haven't noticed any difference. I would definitely say though, not in a warm place. Room temp is what I've always done.

    45:33 Hey Chycho, I have taken much inspiration from your liqueur videos and plan to make my first batch this weekend. I'm still contemplating what types of fruits to use. Question about your liqueur made from cherry pits.. the first thing that pops up when I google search "cherry pit" is how digesting a cherry pit could be potentially lethal and poisonous. I guess digesting a "broken pit" can make your body turn it into cyanide. Were you aware of this or do you have any thoughts? I really wanted to try making the cherry pit liqueur but this is concerning me a little. Thanks!

    • @chycho
      @chycho  5 лет назад +1

      I didn't know about this but it doesn't concern me since I don't eat the pits, and I only drink the cherry pit one maybe once or twice a year. It's only for very special times so I can't see it doing too much harm. That said, the straight up cherry liqueur is absolutely brilliant, so you can just stick to that.
