Old comment, but I've laughed like an 8 year old for years and years at that one woman who says, "Don't come!" in House of the Dead 2.
"Apparently that was a hell of a slap"
(Watches an 8 foot monster smack a 150 pound woman with a giant battleaxe)
Well it was quite a slap
She should've just walked off that collapsed lung and profuse internal hemorrhaging.

@Charlie Vetsworth how about you stop calling a country a "ameritard" and just use google or a calculator to translate that to the metric units like everyone else

Yeah holy shit. I’m watching it on a tv in my room in the dark and Jesus Christ my eyes are bleeding.

Yeah I had to turn the brightness all the way down to endure it
After 3 years did you finally figure out to turn the brightness down or maybe put a lamp on to even the light? How dumb can people be like seriously
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was known back then in my local arcade for beating the game with one token. How'd I did this? Well the arcade cabinet of our House of the Dead (1 , 2 , and 3) can be wired and those times security cams weren't good to be depended on.
Since the thing below the box can be opened (because of it not having a lock) and you can just open the thing and just keep putting the token and take it back by that process.
Damn those were times I literally was ripping off the place but they didn't cared about it tho for some reason even if tho I got caught like 5 times. They're still running until now.
How they knew you beat the game with one token, since they saw you reusing the token?
@ respect.
@Stefano Pavone
You could do the same trick with a fishing wire . If you folded the edge correctly you could insert it in the coin slot and get infinite tokens. Though you had to be discreet in order not to get caught. Eg if the mal owner saw 99 credits you were screwed.

If you're lucky enough, after killing magician, there's a cut scene of a zombie Sophie right after the end credits.
Yeaaah, there was! Man this is so nostalgic
no its not. If you didn't do good enough, you get the bad ending which is the zombie sophie.
MrRazmon Nah it’s even more schizophrenic. You can only get it if you didn’t use any continues but didn’t score high enough.
So, paradoxically, you need to be really good to get the bad ending.

I beat the first game back in 1999 with just under $5 at a local arcade. I was a sweaty mess, my body hurt and my eyes ached but I felt accomplished. Never played another light gun game after that but it left me with great memories!
Great content. Keep at it.
What a goddess
I've played House of the Dead at numerous arcades growing up and I have yet to actually beat it.
@@MikeJr9284 I agree, can't wait for House of the Dead upcoming new games
House of the Dead 3 was one of my favorite arcade games to play back then. I got so good at the game that I managed to complete the whole game with one coin. I still remember the crowd of people standing behind me being absolutely bewildered. My hands were sweaty and my finger got blisters from shooting so fast. I developed a technique to use two fingers to shoot really fast. It was basically a machine gun at that point, not a shotgun. Really fun game but really freaking hard.

I remember like 20 people crowding around two teenagers who made it to the last level of House of the Dead 4 and everyone was watching in amazement because nobody had ever made it that far. It was beautiful, like a once in a lifetime event lol
That was me a couple times. But then I ran out of money and nobody wanted to loan me. They wanted my spot which was lame.
One time I had enough and dual gunned my way through half before ppl got mad and I let some random guy play with me
cue Chariots of Fire..
Finally, one of the most iconic light gun games in history!
The nostalgia of this game is overwhelming
I played the crap out of House of The Dead 2 on the Dreamcast when I was 8yrs old. Was one of my favorite Dreamcast games and I still feel obligated to sacrifice a couple coins whenever I see one of the arcade cabinet versions. It's been awhile but I think House of The Dead 2 also had branching paths and where you went depended on who you saved or how well you did. I might not remember it correctly cuz it was 20yrs ago.
7:29 I can imagine the JoJo fans want to play House of the Dead after this.

I just love how the graphics looks for HoTD 1 and 2...
The arcade versions, that is.
It's that transition between high quality ps1-like looks to the ps2, and I just love it.

Remember the secure feeling of having a ton of quarters on you when your parents dropped you off at the mall or movie theater??? Probably spent a couple hundred bucks in the late 90's - early 2000's on these arcades. There was a decent Star Trek one too wherein whenever you had to reload it would say "REMODULATE".
I remember that. you sat down in it to play it, right?
you did!
I have such fond memories of the time I played through all of Time Crisis 2 on $5. It took quite a while, too.
Parents now a days will never be able to feel the joy of dropping their kid off at the arcade and having a few hours of relaxation.. Not that they arent trying, letting the internet raise their kids and so on.
It was pretty cool how the arcade cabinets for 1 - 4 had different gun plastic models (with reload options) modeling the weapons used ingame, HOTD1 had a small pistol, HOTD2 had a bigger pistol closer to a revolver, HOTD3 had the pump shotgun and HOTD4 had the Uzi/Ingram type gun.
I remember back when I was in elementary school (3th and 4th grade) my mother would go to the mall every Saturday and I would go with her. I would save up all my quarters and we would go to the arcade in the mall and we would play these shooting games together. Our favorites were Area 51, Aliens 3, and this one.
Good times. Was something magical about going to the arcade.
One of the reason I purchased a Dreamcast was so I could play HoTD 2. Me and my Dad spent hours playing original mode.
HotD 2 on Dreamcast was amazing for the time.
I had this weird version where you had to type words to kill them I also had the normal version with this cool light gun and this weird memory card that was like a mini Gameboy that slotted into the light gun. Good Times
@@graytoby1 that's the typing of the dead, and the memory card was a VMU lol

Virtua Cop 2 was the shit. I love going guns akimbo with that game.
Stonks lol
I like it Virtua Cop 2.
I've managed to flawless the Empress in House of the Dead 4. The key is to remember that only the head takes damage so you need to make sure you aren't wasting your ammo with body shots when she is above or on the side of the train. The blue reticle on the monochromatic blue model kinda makes it harder to see where her actual hurtbox is so it's really easy to waste ammo with body shots without even realizing it. She follows the same route and attack pattern each time though so with some memorization you should be able to lead your shots when she goes behind one of the doors which blocks her hitbox and hit her as she becomes vulnerable again instead of wasting ammo and not having enough time to reload.
12:55 When you get saved but actually wanted to die.
I almost cried when you talked so much good stuff about hotd 1 and 2. I grew up by playing those. These 2 were and still are my fav arcade games. Thank you.
You're welcome
1 and 2 are awesome..3 is alright and 4 and dawn are garbage
I remember going on a school trip to a bowling ally and just blitzing Time Crisis 4 and House of Dead 4, good times
it is sad that there are still no perfect emulation for 3 and 4 on pc.
@@zxc930213 3 has a native PC version tho...
Also the second game, in stage 2 and 3, has different boss arenas depending on your actions. Also a cool fact about stage 3. Depending on what arena you fight in stage 2 you actually go backwards in stage 3 from that arena. For example; You fight stage 2 boss on the actual bridge (A path) you end up by the wooden bridge and fight the stage 3 boss. If you fight on the wooden bridge (B path) you will end up near Sunset bridge for the boss fight for stage 3. Stage 4 has 2 different starting areas as well depending on the path you take in stage 3.
I remember being a kid looking for all the emulators of these shooters. Took me a while but now I can *somewhat* play HoTD4 on PC, which brought a tear to my eyes
When a Sega game loads up: "SAY GAH"
Gman: "See ga"
Alot of people here in Australia pronounce it that way. I know I did as a kid, until I 1st saw the bit in sonic 3 where it Sega "SAY GAH" and since then I've said it that way. And yeah, I kinda still cringe when I hear other Aussies say it "see gah" >.
see ga
Funny thing is in Italy "Say Gah" means Wank. Yep.
It's like how some Americans pronounce it as 'Seh Gah'. Everyone has heard the word pronounced in various Sega games, and yet they still don't pronounce it correctly. It baffles the mind.
Seh gah in Scotland too
House of the Dead 2 experts, did I miss something when they obveously start in Venice, then proceed to the Colloseum? Like in Rome? Isnt that a 6 hour drive on a good day?
Well, they did go by boat...and through some sewers...(but yeah, geography is probably out of whack)
@Winston Smith Get back in the freezer.
This is the same version of Italy where all the cars are right-hand drive so...
It's an arcade game...
Alex Radice yeah..............
The OG 1996 game will still be my most fav, will never forget Hangedman's iconic sinister "nobody leaves here alive" line as he takes away Sophie and his batty giant vampire like figure, ability to commands bats to attack you, nearly throwing you down from the roof and throwing two scientists to their deaths cold heartedly and the mansion itself the blood near the entrance, a true horror game gem! With the music off its even scarier the zombie sounds, machine sounds, death sounds and more all more sinister and horror vibe.
I remember way back in like 2006 when I was 15 me and a group of friends that I met on a cruise all chipped in and we ended up beating HOTD2, HOTD4, and Area 51/Maximum Force. Between the four of us we spent a lot less individually by essentially “passing the stick”. I actually remember that being the first time seeing a HOTD4 cabinet.
Jeez, that gunfire flashing makes me feel like I'm going to have a seizure.
I'm glad I'm not the only non-epileptic who feels like an epileptic watching this.
It’s way more worse when it’s night
The reason it does that is it’s how the game tells where you fired the gun
Thank god there is an easy available lua script for the Sega model 2 emulator that removes the flash for the first game
The voice acting of the sequel never gets old lmaoo
Especially Goldman. I've seen his infamous "this is the final battle" scene almost a dozen times and I've burst out laughing every time

JOJO REFERENCE
Just a note here regarding the reference to Shatner and Flying High.
Flying High was the AU and NZ title of Airplane!
In the context of the video it refers to Airplane II: The Sequel.
That should make it easier to find
I remember playing these games a lot as roller rinks when I was a kid, me and my friend would play it every time we went and we spent all of our tokens to beat it
Seeing how you talked about House of the Dead, I think it's only fair to cover the other well known *Or rather lesser* rail shooters like TIme Crisis, Ninja Assault and Vampire Night.
Edit: Bonus points if you mention the Jurassic Park arcade rail shooters too.
Yes! Someone else that actually knows Ninja Assault and Vampire Night! Two of Namco’s most underrated series. I love Time Crisis as well. 2 is my favorite of that series
Ninja assault was wild I remember in xenosaga episode 1 they had an in game ad for it
We ABSOLUTELY need a time crisis video. I've found a new youtube niche.
Jade Rabbit Can’t forget golden gun.
Yeah, man! I used to play all these games on arcade. Old good memories.
House Of The Dead 2 & 3 on the Wii was actually my introduction to the series. The difference between these versions, aside from how you aim, is the amount of extra content outside the main game, I think.
2 has two challenge modes. One tests certain aspects of your shooting abilities at three different difficulties each, and the other is a time attack against bosses. On top o' that, there's two ways to play the main game. Arcade is just the main game as is, but Original Mode lets you equip all sorts of different bonuses and extras such as a larger magazine, damages booster, shoot the UFO, and even weapons like a double-barrel shotgun, grenade launcher, and a bass lure launcher.
3 has only two unlockable main game modes, but they make the game way more replayable: Time attack takes you through the whole on a short time limit, but you can increase it by playing skillfully and hunting for bonuses, and Extreme mode locks you in solo, makes enemies tougher, and your shotgun is essentially a rifle now (in other words, AIM CAREFULLY), but it gives you a faster reload, and a melee attack.
I actually played the third one on arcade, and while it was wasn't easy it was rare to see a shotgun shooter in an arcade, and let me tell you reloading with a working pump action on the gun was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I have ever encountered.
A shame it hasn't been ported out, because Scarlet Dawn is actually super fun in the arcade cabinet. Introduces new weapons you have limited ammo for at the start of each stage and can switch out to at any time.
The thing is SD is too short. I like the art style though
Goldman is simultaneously the most heinous, yet the most relatable villain in gaming history, if not all of fiction
Patali while I agree with Goldman trying to restore the "Life Cylce", but turning everyone or creating a genetically biohazard hostile creatures/mutants(or in this case, zombies) isnt really helping the eco system. But hey, its just a video game

I LOVED playing this as a kid at the arcade growing up. Me and a friend went from blowing 20 bucks on a run through to 5 bucks bucks between us both. I want to say I was 9 or 10 and it was 1998. I was so in love with the series that I bought HOTD3 for the Xbox with the light gun attachment for at home. Oh Nostalgia.
This game was so good. I miss the old ones.
But my preferred arcade shooter was Lost World Jurassic Park
That was great too, except when some nuggets would sling globs of shit at you as projectiles; dunno why that fucked me up
Used to play this at the Arcade, it's cool you reviewing it. Now I'm going to watch the video, thanks for the video
15:35 actually if you're doing really well in the game and you haven't taken damage in a while, the Tower will start attacking with 2 heads at a time. The Magician increases in difficulty if you're doing well too, getting faster and faster and once his little after-image movements glow white instead of red then you know he's at max speed and "I want you to put more money in."-mode.
That Explains Why He Wasnt Going Red Or Blue When He Moved
I looooved how many little secrets there were in HotD2. Like shooting a cat that appears or the boots of cars to find hidden weapons inside.
I remember back when I was a young tween a Friend and I had a blast playing House of the Dead 4 in an arcade. We ended up spending about $50 and made it all the way to about the 4th level. It may not have been the greatest game in the series but that was one memory I'm not going to forget anytime soon.

I’ve played all of these, but the 4th one is the one I played the most. It’s the most fun I had, mainly because it’s the only rail shooter I really cared for. Fun fact: you can chuck a grenade into the 1st boss’ mouth. It’ll reduce the “shoot the weak spot” part of the fight. Idk if it works if he’s covering his mouth or not.
I’ve also fondly played the 3rd one in the arcade. You actually reload your gun by pressing the button that’s on the pump of the shotgun. It was weird, but fun regardless.
Holy smokes you brought up The Secret World of Alex Mack..where's the youtube love button....dammit
It's so great to see this series being talked about today. Such a fun game this is.
Also, Sega needs to stop playing around and give us what we really want. An ACTUAL good remaster of HOTD1 for the PC with online co-op.
Just reminds me of being at laser tag, and they had the arcade machines in the waiting area always with these games
It should be noted that number 3 in the arcade didn't have a shotgun animation on screen because you was using an actual shotgun lightgun that you had to cock to reload, I loved this feature. I also played it on the original Xbox back in 2003.

If anybody has the chance to play House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn do it, the game is super fun in arcade and it is as violent if not even more than previous games, you are set against bigger hordes compared to previous HOTD, and you have to mow them down with machine guns and rocket launchers. House of the dead is only beatable if you have like maybe $30 in quarters on hand, or a barrel key that would open up the mechanism and allow you to add as many credits as you would like. But I will always love that game. And time crisis 3.
I remember like it was today the place where my parents used to go on vacation when I was 12 and that little obscure bar that had this game in its corner. I used to spend half my days there playing that game and was quickly able to beat it with one coin only. I became so well known for that that there was an audience of 9-12 kids and teens around me watching how I played and finished the game with that one coin. Oh the good times and epic game :D
This series gave me my first nightmares as a kid lmao
Same here it was always the zombies with open shirts I’d have nightmares of
You just blew my fucking mind with that Daytona usa opening, i havent heard that in probably 20 years and its still a banger. Thank you for this.
