@@tripledub0evoxgsr not at all. very well known that these cars are drastically underrated. My stock S6 Dyno'd at 399 WHP, which puts it well north of the 420Hp claimed by Audi. The RS versions are almost identical, yet are rated at 600. . .
I think that with all the Audi S models we drove, Audi gave us very, very conservative estimates for the 0-60 time. They told us 4.5 seconds but it honestly felt faster. Magazines have run better numbers than Audi's quotes were, and I'm not surprised. They told us 3.9 for the S8 and Motor Trend got 3.5 out of it. These cars felt quicker than 4.5 when I launched them, so I believe C&D's number.
I am certainly not an afficionado when it comes to audio systems, but the S7 had the standard system and the S6 had the bang and olufsen and there was a major difference to me.
I don't know the Euro translation, it's $6,400. But it's got 19 speakers with 19 amplifiers on 19 channels and active noise cancellation. It's the best stereo system I've ever heard.
I have no idea, but that's a good question for C&D's west-coast editor, who will be recording a podcast with us tonight which will air in a couple weeks. I'll make sure to ask him. But I can tell you that Audi made it very clear that the "S" model is designed to compete with the BMW 550i and Mercedes E550, not the M or AMG cars.
Hey man, I just wanted to say I've been watching your videos and I've really been enjoying them. You do such a good job of breaking things down clearly, and you have a lot of fun driving all these cars. You seem like a super cool dude - great job and keep driving!
you're missing the point. We're not a TV show. We're an on-demand internet show. You guys wanted more content, and we had the opportunity to drive three new Audi's in a single day, so we made short films with all of them. By releasing them separately, we're optimizing our SEO so that people who are searching for "S6 Review" will get this video, and those searching for the other cars get those. It's RUclips, to make money, volume is key, sometimes at the expense of repetition.
We do. We normally take 8-10 hours to shoot a film, during which time we try to make sure there are no cameras or mounts visible in the background. For this film, we had only 2 hours, so we traded off that inconvenience of having mounts showing in exchange for getting as many usable shots as possible in the very little time we had.
I live in Los Angeles, where such a car is totally suitable for daily use. My friend Andrew Comrie-Picard daily drives a 1978 930 Turbo here without any issues.
as we said in the other video's comments, the audio is fine. It's the fact that we were filming inside a car that has ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLING. It's like trying to record audio inside a pair of Bose headphones. You can't disable it, so that's what happens.
I did all the black magic details that season. I think they used like 5 of them on air or something. That was the easiest money I ever made. Worked 1 hour out of every 3 days for 3 weeks and got paid a fortune for it.
i was going to get the S6 but i happen to fall in love with the BMW M5. all i got to say is look for a used one! The 2 Audi's we owned we got used with really low miles on it and saved thousands. The S6 is was going to purchase had 2K miles on it for only $60,000 and was almost fully loaded. you could easily talk down the dealer in price and paying $57,000 or so for a slightly used 2013 S6 sounds like one good deal to me!
Holy Crap Matt Farah, I'm watching old episodes of BullRun Season 3 that I've had on my comp forever and just realized that you did the Black Magic detail on the Hummer in episode 7. Was shocked to see a familiar face. Awesome work on both TST and DRIVE. Keep it coming.
in this particular instance we didn't use it because the polarizer was spun the wrong way because we were rushing. In other videos we almost always use it.
We had the opportunity to drive all three cars in one day, so we made films with all of them in order to put out the volume of content that our fans demand, and to make sure that people who are searching for reviews of these cars can find them.
that's a silly argument. The current S6 has a full liter less of displacement than the last one, makes more power, more torque, and gets better fuel economy too. It doesn't make as much power as it potentially could because it's an "S" model not an "RS" model, which we all know will be coming in a few years. And just because you own an expensive, sporty car doesn't mean you don't care about how much gas it goes through. Less gas is always better, no matter what you drive.
Well, the S8 is hands down the nicest car. But not everyone who can afford a $70,000 S6 can also afford a $110,000 S8. Independent of price, S8 all the way. Best bang for the buck I'd say S7.
All those cars you mentioned will be virtually worthless in ten years. The 930 is already depreciated and will most likely appreciate in the long term, an all-time classic, upgradeable for more performance, and it's a classic, air-cooled Turbo Porsche that afficionados know requires a real proper driver to control. The galvanized body structure means it's a million-mile chassis, and it will be cool always and forever. That's the kind of $40,000 sports car I want.
I prefer the styling of the S7. If you don't mind the $8,000 difference and rear seat headroom and the ability to seat 5 rather than 4 isn't important to you, get the S7.
then make more money, it's not the sunglass company's fault. Dillon's lens technology comes from long-range sniper rifles, which is why the glasses are as good as they are. You want cheap glasses? Go to the kiosk in the mall. These are high-quality glasses, because that's what our brand (and theirs) are about. Good quality items cost money.
While I think that AMG is the new M in terms of overall driving pleasure (anywhere but a track; on the track M cars will spank AMG cars), I drove the new M5 on the track and would never call it "unsatisfying."
As a car video enthusiat, I would suggest for a more fun video to watch, especially for car driving test video, just duped the voice over the outside view of the car while it's being driven (over different terrains and with different speed curves). It get boring real fast just looking at the driver. Just a feedback.
A friend of mine has got the A6 BiTdi. 313 hp and 650 nm, It's not really the same "Sport-machine" as the S6, but it's a stationswagon and it's actually a really cool and sporty car! It smokes the standard Porsche Carrera! ;)
Matt love your reviews. Just a heads up... would love a camera on the speedo in future videos.... that woukd give us 'the viewer ' a better idea of how fast it really is !! Thanks bro
Definitely agreed. I had a 2003 Audi A6 CVT Frontrak. On flat ground 0-60 went by in 4 flat, it was rated for 4.8 I think? Definitely not a race car but for an old heavy Audi it was a blast and really durable, really miss it.
That's actually not quite accurate. 100 lbs really isn't much difference when it comes to a car, and the acceleration differences to 60 mph are in the hundredths of a second, not noticeable from behind the wheel. The S7 has a 2" wider stance, and wider tires. It also has a lower center of gravity, and the extra weight is over the rear of the car, which, when driving, helps to dial out some understeer when exiting a corner. It's my opinion that the S7 handles better because of these traits.
Ahh, I skipped the first couple times it was aired just to get the the challenges. Best of luck in your endeavors. The first time you get your hands on a Huayra, let us know.
You mentioned your disappointment with the output of the S6 compared to the S8. That's why you tune it to make the same power! Seems like lots of power left on the table.
True, but there are still some reasons to get the S6 over the RS5. First, the S6 does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, the RS5 about 4.4 at best. In the S6 you can carry friends in comfort, I'd even go so far to say that the seats are better in the S6. In the S6 the engine is mounted slightly behind the front axle for better handling, in the RS5 it is out over the front axle which causes poor handling at the limit. Basically, RS5 is for vanity, S6 is for the big boys. Still, I also want an RS5 :)
Hey guys, congratulations on another great video! I have a question though. Why do you always have a windshield mounted camera, but never use the shots from it in the videos?
Hey Matt I totally agree with you about the more powerful engine, but I think that the S8 would make it's way in the RS6 if not even more powerful (maybe around 600hp).
Drove this last week. Insanely fun sedan, with a very exclusive feel compared to its competition. Matt, I completely agree with you on the under powering, just because it's smaller vehicle, and they likely want to reserve those numbers for the RS. How's the night vision? Wasn't on the model I drove.
So Matt, what say you of the C&D quoted 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds? Seems a bit unrealistic given your 0-60 time here. I'd love to hear your opinion on this topic.
Matt have you driven the new M5 yet? I'd love to see a review of that since you've gotten to the hot Audis and the top level Panamera. I know they're in different price brackets, but still are all German twin turbo V8 luxury sedans (E63 in there too). Specifically I'm curious how the driving dynamics of the M5 compare to the S6.
Hey Matt, So now that the 3 weeks passed. What's your take, 6,7, or 8. Never driven any but it seems like S7 is the way to go since it's the only car I can think of that has no competitors that are clearly better. (e.g, if I want S6, I might as well want M5?) Also, once you go Band & Olufsen, you don't go back. And I agree, if we talked about RS, this would be a different story. Cheers
I am sure you have driven lots of cars. CTS-V, S6, E 63 AMG, and M5 Which car did you enjoy driving? which car do you prefer? I hope I buy one of them whithin one year.
Matt what do you think of C&D having this car win the comparo between the new AMG E 6.3 (which should be called a 5.5 TT) and M5? Or for that matter what C&D had to say about the cars themselves (M5 came in last!)?
I drove the 2013 S6 with launch control, and I went from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, which was confirmed by Car and Driver...Great video!!
Seems to run different times nobody has a consistent person stats , the normal driver won’t ever hit 60 in 3.7
@@tripledub0evoxgsr not at all. very well known that these cars are drastically underrated. My stock S6 Dyno'd at 399 WHP, which puts it well north of the 420Hp claimed by Audi. The RS versions are almost identical, yet are rated at 600. . .
yeah, as we've learned recently, Audi severely underrates the performance of their cars.
I think that with all the Audi S models we drove, Audi gave us very, very conservative estimates for the 0-60 time. They told us 4.5 seconds but it honestly felt faster. My Dad owns the M5 which has around 550 hp. It's just way too much hp for everyday use. This S6 has the perfect everyday setup for enthusiast.

It's a small-bore TT V8 where the turbo's are meant to increase fuel economy, not necessarily add a ton of power.

The awesome thing about The Smoking Tire, is that I can "like" the video, before I even watch it, cause I know I'm gonna love it! Plain and simple.

we've already reviewed both of those cars, they are on our web site. They are written pieces only.
They usually do, but we had cameras mounted pretty far off the car using the triangulation kit, which set it off.

I like the way you kept the camera rolling on the motorcycle crash. Thumbs up!
Audi's active noise cancelling. You can't hear it when sitting in the car, but our wireless microphones picked it up and you can't disable it.

probably not, we're having a party at our house saturday night, so the odds of me waking up on time are about zero.

With the first generation systems from the early 2000's, yes you were supposed to lift a bit. With the new systems, no, you don't have to.
that's coming later in November.
and you'll notice that I went to serious trouble to point out different features in each video so as to minimize the repetition whenever possible.

Thanks for the video. I'm glad you shot three different videos.
The price difference is due to the reduced gas guzzler tax right?
This is a completely made up comment. I have never, nor would I ever, say that to someone.
yeah. you can't hear it in person.

I still can't believe this does 0-60 in under 4 seconds.. It's a $70,000 car!!
The only problem with this review is most of the time the camera is showing you driving in this video.
Further product is in development. I like that.
best reviewer on the internet right now......
realistically, the M5 is 40%, or $30,000 more expensive than the S6
You mentioned your disappointment with the output of the S6 compared to the S8. That's why you tune it to make the same power! Seems like lots of power left on the table.
BMW 550 or Merc 550?
Matt's the Ron Jeremy of cars.
What do you want? A sedan with 5 seats or a 4 seat sportback?
True, but there are still some reasons to get the S6 over the RS5. First, the S6 does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, the RS5 about 4.4 at best. Hey guys, congratulations on another great video! I have a question though. Why do you always have a windshield mounted camera, but never use the shots from it in the videos?
this is a little off topic but i trust your opinion...given the choice, would you chose e46 m3 or b6 s4...and why. thank you kind sir.
Hey Matt I totally agree with you about the more powerful engine, but I think that the S8 would make it's way in the RS6 if not even more powerful (maybe around 600hp).
those seats look amazing!
I agree completely. Audi needs to put the 520HP motor in that car. Add ten grand to the sticker if you must. But DO IT!
Matt, I like the DSG being in this and the S8 engine would require a slushbox.
Let the S8 be big and bulky, keep the S6 sleek and svelte.

Matt, I completely agree with you on the under powering, just because it's smaller vehicle, and they likely want to reserve those numbers for the RS. How's the night vision? Hey Matt, do you think we will get the RS6 in the states? Looking forward to that test drive?
why would we spend time filming that?
So Matt, what say you of the C&D quoted 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds? Seems a bit unrealistic given your 0-60 time here. I'd love to hear your opinion on this topic.
Matt have you driven the new M5 yet? I'd love to see a review of that since you've gotten to the hot Audis and the top level Panamera. I know they're in different price brackets, but still are all German twin turbo V8 luxury sedans (E63 in there too). Specifically I'm curious how the driving dynamics of the M5 compare to the S6.
Hey Matt,
So now that the 3 weeks passed. What's your take, 6,7, or 8.

Also, once you go Band & Olufsen, you don't go back.
