Great review; the only thing I would say is, what person with an M5 tracks their car? People want to go fast, sit in luxury, have their tech, and, last but not least, stand out. Regarding the price point from the factory, is there even a competitor right now?!

The reference to "what an M5 is supposed to be" by one of the guys (what were their names again?) in the beginning - reminds of an interview done with the actual current BMW designer - the guy with the most respectable manbun - and always dressed in strictly black. He said - "we looked at the BMWs of past - and asked ourselves - what is BMW design? Yes, it was always non-aggressive and soft". And at that point - all I could think of - was WHAT? Look at any BMW - up to E60 (non inclusive, heh heh) - and then F10 and even G30 - and compare it with the closest competitor from Audi and Mercedes. BMW HAS ALWAYS been - the most aggressive, sharpest, most muscular and sporty (all that elegantly combined with BMW's own invented tradition that had continued for decades and decades, until Mr Black Vaping non-aggressor - came to be. Or until Bangle came to be - but he quickly ceased). BMW has lost its design edge - and yes, many people - myself included - value well-designed cars. But more importantly - BMW has lost the idea of what an M5 is supposed to be. It no longer is the incredibly fast and well-handling (and practical) hoonigan that the E28, E34 and E39 M5s were. NOW - IT. IS. A. PRODUCT. M5 now "has to" have gazillions of "techy" driving modes, gazillions of gadgets, and it has to do "all that". Take your dog to the vet (G91), your missus to the store and yourself to the track - while letting you pee in excitement (if you're a german tech-boy) because of all the modes and screens. But that was never what M5 was supposed to be - but we (or the market, that is) is way past that. So why have soul, BMW - when all your "lesser" cars now have M-Sport lines and suspensions sold as high-value options - and when influencers like Joe Achilles - can simply SELL whatever you THINK the autobahn buddies will buy? Speaking of autobahn - in order to understand BMW more - you need to visit the place where they are made. Not Dingolfing specifically - although a city with that name would warrant visiting it on its own - but the Autobahns, cities and production facilities all around BMW. Not only because BMWs are mostly made for the local market (Germany still a major tech-oriented country with 90 million people) - but also, because what BMW engineers and bean (or nut) counters imagine and think - is what they breathe and understand - being in the local environment (which is where they live, obviously). So - what DO they breathe and understand in the local environment? Well... Mercedes is the elegant granpa car. It has (supposed) class and luxury - and is kinda the "big daddy" - or at least imagines itself to be (visit Stuttgart and Mercedes museums to understand this). Then there's VW and audi - which is "people's car". It's the more down-to earth, honest and everyday choice. Then there's BMW. So where does it fit in? What is its identity? Immediately - watching new cars on the autobahn - it becomes clear. BMW is orienting itself towards the aspiring rising German tech boy. The one who will race you at any point and moment on the autobahn. The one which values telling his buddies how well the aroma/scent package in their newest M FUNF - works - and how the diff can send this or that amount of torque to this or that wheel. The customer who wants something special - compared to the sleekness of Merc - and down-to-earthness - of VW. So BMW makes ugly cars - just to be noticed (just like they made sporty, aggressive lines in everything from E12 to E39 and from E21 to F30) - and it gives you that driving quality edge (because it still has some engineers left in the company, not only accountants and CEOs). Lastly - the LEGISLATION. And it is a big one - which makes M5 a BIG one. It's either batteries and electric range (where is this all crap stipulated?) - or a four-popper with minimum grams per CO2 per 100 km. Think the new C-Class AMG. So it's either a fest for tech-boys, with decent handling (IN SPITE of weighing half a ton more than the previous version!) - and a do-it-all superwagon - or an even more compromised fast calculator on wheels. Speaking of calculating - has anyone at EU level calculated - what amount of CO2 would be saved - if BMW just made another Twin-turbo V8 - WITHOUT the batteries? WIthout the mandatory hybrid? Without the complexity and the weight? Oh, wait, the Green Party in Germany is getting stronger and stronger. Yeah. Makes sense.
I thought BMW was "the ultimate driving machine". The last thing the M5 ever needed was a hybrid system. It's an M car for F sakes 😂😂 1000lbs over the previous generation is wild!
I actually like the looks of this but can definitely get why anyone who likes a traditional BMW thinks this is ugly. Hoping this is just an awkward first step into PHEV and the LCI or next-gen is significantly improved in terms of weight, engines, dynamics, ect.
So happy they put to rest all the people saying it's slower then the old one based on "bmw on paper numbers" I knew they would look like morons. This car is an animal when it comes to torque.
I think that this M5 looks good honestly, its road presence is unmatched. But the issue is with the weight and powertrain, if they really had to make it that heavy, they shudve given it atleast 809 horses to make it very fast atleast cuz right now its neither agile nor mentally fast
The development was years ago, and they had to decide on this type of drivetrain based on the future regulations. As a cherry on top, we got the touring, but without the trick with the rear window... the E53! AMG already weighs - and they kept the weight secret for a long time - as much as the BMW and Audi will not be able to avoid the hybrid either, if there is ever going to be an RS5 (what a name-shame). New times... we are happy that we were able to be part of the old ones...
Also, this was such a great video, all-around. Loved the office discussion scenes, the title cards on the door, and as usual the insights and vibrance Throttle House brings to all their work. Bravo!
They had an absolute banger with the previous M5 CS. People who buy an M5 aren't interested in the emissions, that's why they should push lower emissions on the entry models instead off the top models. If the entry models (like 520, 525, 530) get 5% lower emissions that will offset the 30% higher emissions from an M5 and the emissions will be lower overal. All they had to do was rebody the previous M5 CS, give it a bit more HP to make it faster than the previous one and maybe make it a bit more comfortable for the "base" M5 and develop the suspension and tires to give a broader range off comfy and sporty and build from there... I do hope they'll see the light with this model and make another CS model that ditches the hybrid stuff to make it lighter again and just tune the engine more. The era off hybrids and electric is coming closer every day. Real "driver cars" like an M5 should stay just that and should be the last "greatests hits" car brands should make till they have to switch to hybrid or full electric.
Aside from the lottery I'll never be able to afford the m5 but I love y'all's humor and editing so much that I watch every episode you two and your team put out!

It’s hilarious how the German car is the straight line speed bloated land yacht and the American one (CT5V Blackwing) is the light one that is amazing in the corners.
U guys that were in the "it's slower camp" seriously don't understand numbers at all. The old m5 comp will come close but lose to the QM and it will get absolutely destroyed from any type of roll thanks to the new m5 1000nm of torque. Been saying this since it was announced. New m5 is only 0.2 sec slower 0-60 .. after that it wins.
This isn’t a Comp or CS so why would they get either of those? Both are base model M5’s. The G90 Comp will be faster than the F90 Comp. This is what happens when everyone gets their information off tictok.
@G82Watts I understand, and I also understand that being quicker once in the move is much more important than a 0-60 time. But the point about the weight still remains. You don't want the car to feel heavy when driving in the bends or even making slow turns around town.

They are not allowed to do that. Eu regulations. And who cares, its faster then the previous m5!
23:35 Absolutely epic
I actually like the looks of this but can definitely get why anyone who likes a traditional BMW thinks this is ugly. Hoping this is just an awkward first step into PHEV and the LCI or next-gen is significantly improved in terms of weight, engines, dynamics, ect.
How can you like this abomination? It looks like a Kia with a body kit.
THAT DRAG RACE WAS UNEXPECTED! You guys never fail to amaze me! Keep up the amazing work.
The should have used an M5 CS
So happy they put to rest all the people saying it's slower then the old one based on "bmw on paper numbers" I knew they would look like morons. This car is an animal when it comes to torque.
@@Evinrudeeeethey were testing og m5 vs m5 not the special editions
I think that this M5 looks good honestly, its road presence is unmatched. But the issue is with the weight and powertrain, if they really had to make it that heavy, they shudve given it atleast 809 horses to make it very fast atleast cuz right now its neither agile nor mentally fast
Good? It looks like a Kia lmao. Hybrid M5, yeah bmw is dead.
unmatched cause it's absolutely horrid. Def not moving over for this one
@@zDemoGODzBMW is everything else than dead
I think it looks great
@@v12-s65 Horrid is such an overstatement, hate is a freaking trend, it does not look as good as other m5's but it definitely looks good isolated
The editing at the beginning across the 5 series & M5 was veryyy slick. Good work.
Welcome back!!
New times... we are happy that we were able to be part of the old ones...
not bad but f90 is 10 times better
It’s lighter and looks better but other than that the G is better
G90 is faster
G90 better interior, more presence, better daily driver, faster in straight line. I think the new m5 cs will be perfect.
finally a review channel that's honest. and not glazing bmw for their stupid decisions
The photos on the office wall made me piss my pants.
Haven't watched any other M5 videos because I have zero interest in this car, but I knew this one would be good and the boys did not disappoint!
I LOVE THROTTLE HOUSE ❤❤
I Love Carwow
Aside from the lottery I'll never be able to afford the m5 but I love y'all's humor and editing so much that I watch every episode you two and your team put out!
At 11:00am today, I am test driving the M5 and likely buying it.
This is great timing.
Good for you Alan 🎉
Can I come😢
Did you pull the trigger?
This video didn't need to be this good, but you guys still did it! I will share this with people that are not interested in car content it's that good!
Last time I saw this level was... yesterday actually, when I saw Jason and Randy "comparing" M3 and Tesla 3. You guys were there too :D
New BMW XB7 Alpine release This Year! Please review it braahh
Yo I bust out laughing when he said “stitching get stitches” and it was so corny 😂😂😂😂😂
Amazing intro with the posters of the iX, M235i, and especially XM!!
Thomas really looks like younger Russell Crowe as well 😮
Bring back prime BMW (2005-2020)
*2000-2012
Nah man , 2015-2021 cars were brilliant and best in segment@@Pawcio2115
im sorry but yall getting old
Same can be said for Audi and AMG. And a lot of other brands.
@ADrunkN1nja yeah , those were the Golden years of automobiles 😭 they done crazy stuff , V10 sedans , sports wagons became a thing , haaaa , i could go all day
The fact that the BMW receptionist thought the Department of Questionable Decisions was responsible for the new M5...is hilarious.
It’s hilarious how the German car is the straight line speed bloated land yacht and the American one (CT5V Blackwing) is the light one that is amazing in the corners.
And which ones sell better?
Absolutely killed in on this video. Well done guys
I bet if you got an m5 comp or certainly a cs, it would have beaten the new one even in the drag race. And most certainly even better in the corners
👍👍
Well that would’ve been an unnecessary and senseless comparison.
Ive been patiently waiting to here Thomas’ perspective on this car . I wanted to like this car as someone who’s loved every generation of M5 but he basically called out every fear i had about this car 😫
I've missed yall
It looks like a Taurus SHO from the old days. Great review, you gentlement are the best!
