The Canadian who kills himself was a survivor of the Dieppe Raid in 1942. It was one of the worst amphibious assaults the allied made with more than half of the force killed, captured or wounded. Going straight from that to the madness of the Pacific and the jungle fighting was too much for him, and he snapped.
Irl he didn't kill himself. He served honorably on Gloucester and then was KIA on Peleliu.
MP = military police
6:29 That is a Japanese Nambu 8mm officer's pistol. They aren't as well made as a Luger but in the Pacific it was just as sought after.
12:00 Dysentery is bloody diarrhea caused by an internal infection. Malaria is a tropical mosquito borne blood parasite that causes weakness, high fever and terrible body pain.
12:48 Enuresis is uncontrolled urination ( bed wetting) there are many causes. One of them can be constant high stress. It can also be caused by drinking low quality water.
13:58 The orderly didn't pocket the blades to steal them it was to control access.
18:50 Once you have seen first hand what can happen a quick death is everyone's fondest wish.
Gibson wasn't smiling because he's a brutal SOB, he's simply lost his mind.
Exactly. I don’t understand how people reacting to this show didn’t catch that among many other things. I understood that he was losing it when I first saw the show when I was 16 lol
The sickest, creepiest eyes I've ever seen. Not much gives me the creeps, but Gibson's eyes so. 😬
Answers! MP stands for Military Police, they arrested the soldiers for not following rules or commiting crimes.
Dysentery has sever diarrhea symptoms which can kill you from loss of fluids.
Enurisis is a unirary tract infection and Leckie can't stop urinating.
Enuresis* is bed wetting, not a UTI.
Biss the Empty Cans hanging on the Wire was for a Alarm not for Catching Rain ! Love Your Reactions, You are the Best !!!
Bliss dysentery is a disease caused by a bacteria or amoeba. It's symptoms are abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and bloody stools.
Enuresis was common among soldiers. It is caused by the violence they experienced and the stress of their living conditions. Leckie's return to normal environment allowed his mental health to heal which cured his enuresis to clear up.
I read Leckie's book "Helmet for my pillow" ..he took great pride in walking point during patrols. The one time he was told by his Lieutenant to be in the rear, which he resented, he encountered the small Japanese recon team behind them.
After the same Lieutenant who had put him in the rear that day moved him to back to point not only because he had good instincts but he knew the way back following the tenaru river.
3:44 Nope, they are hanging the cans on trip lines so they make noise when the enemy walks into them in the dark. Then not only do the Marines know the enemy is coming but also what direction they are coming from. There would also be claymore mines planted facing in the direction of likely approach ready to be set off to devastating effect on enemy combatants...
5:51 I haven't seen any animal life in this episode yet, lots of flora and weather but no fauna...
6:25 Not a Luger, it looks like a Type 14 pistol to me but it might have been a Papa Nambu I couldn't get a good enough look at it to be absolutely sure. Most likely though it was a Type 14. The Papa Nambu was much more rare.
11:19 By the summer of 1943, Rabaul served as a major Japanese base, with more than 100,000 troops garrisoned there, they captured the base from the Australians in '42.
12:04 Dysentery is a gastrointestinal disease. Its causes include bacterial or parasitic infections. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, weight loss and stomach cramps. Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It was treatable but until recently it was considered incurable, my grandfather had malaria attacks into his 60's, at least t hat was the last I was aware of in the mid 80's.
12:53 Leckie has enuresis, Urinary incontinence (enuresis) is the medical term for bedwetting. Leckie's enuresis diagnosis in the series is a result of the traumatic experiences he goes through, including witnessing violent deaths and enduring relentless rain during the Battle of Cape Gloucester.
On a side note, 14:07 gave a clear enough view to see that the pistol is a Papa Nambu, Great score Leckie! It would get him about 1900, 2000 dollars today in good shape. The pistol had it's issues though the problem was the sear bar, which was mounted on the outside of the pistol. It could be easily pressed if the pistol was dropped or handled carelessly. In fact, there are many stories of the gun firing when soldiers squeezed the sear bar on purpose, pretending to be surrendering.
Anywho, it was fun watching the show with you, hope these answers help.
The cans are to collect rain but to also make noise if enemies come up on the barbed wire and start tampering with it. the cans will rattle and wake the soldiers up, or get their attention.
Dysentery is the infection of the stomach leading to blood in the stool. It can also lead to severe vomiting and chills like some of these men are facing. Just some of the dangers of guadal canal and the wider pacific region. So many diseases.
also leckie had Eurethis which is basically bedwetting. Many soldiers got it. Hes scared. Very very scared. The thought is that so much stress was put on them, with such poor conditions that their mental state wore down really bad.
I appreciate what you said about the hospital Corpsman, who wasn't in combat but saw what it does to people. You said they have to be special. I agree. My father was an army medical tech in the Philippines, and he saw plenty and was affected by it. He was a great man. Special, absolutely.
16:58 When you said that it would break your heart to take care of other soldiers to see how it effected them. That’s why in the Band of Brothers, Buck Compton seemed to have lost it when he came back from the hospital. He saw all these other soldiers whose insides were hanging (in his words), and brains being held in by bandages, and he was there “with a hole in his ass.” When he came back, he said that he was a basket case.
Don’t worry, you’re not supposed to agree with how that guy strangled that enemy soldier and then smiled about it. You are supposed to realize that he’s starting to psychologically crack and go insane. Therefore he must be taken off the line and put into treatment fast before he becomes suicidal and / or a liability to the others. But no, you’re not supposed to agree with what he did.
A sad truth about war. It is very difficult for a normal person to kill someone you empathize with so the military goes to great lengths to make you hate the enemy. Not dislike them, hate them. Their reasoning is multi faceted. First as a soldier, you are expected to kill, and to do so without hesitation. Second, there is an decreased chance that you will suffer mentally if you hate the person you have to kill, or at least suffer less. The belief is that you can internally justify the killing. It is shrewd and sometimes cruel, but all war depends upon this idea.
Tropical diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and dysentery led to 20% of the soldiers being in the hospitals at any given time. The soldiers suffered as much from the jungle and the weather as they did from the Japanese.😢
Then there was the REAL Boogeyman - Blackwater fever...
They literally went crazy going through that war.
There were actually still a fair number of Japanese in New Guinea. However the reason it might appear as though they had pulled all their forces out, is because they were suffering more than the Marines and Army were.
The Japanese by this time had their naval base in Rabaul destroyed. Making it difficult if not impossible to get resupplies in. So on top of getting sick, they were also going hungry and didn’t have any reserve troops to replace them. And the sick/wounded could not be evacuated. Cannibalism was reported. Bodies of Japanese and Australian soldiers were found showing evidence of cannibalism. Japanese soldiers also resorted to eating their leather shoes and belts.
That island didn't hold any real significance. It was a place chosen because if was still near the logistic routes and was back from the front lines. The weather was terrible though. What the episode didn't show was that a lot of men were killed or injured by the trees falling on them. The roots were shallow and sometimes got washed out by the rain and the trees would fall.
Dysentery is a very nasty kind of diarrhea. It can be fatal if a person is in a weakened state.
Living in the jungle is pretty rough. Being wet all the time, the bugs, skin and other diseases. Some units like the SAS have extended training periods in the jungles. Learning how to fight there is part of it, but also it screens out a good number of men who loose it and quit just to get out of there. Some elements of the French Foreign Legion also have a jungle course as well as one regiment stationed in French Guiana. Lots of jungle around the rocket launch sites they help protect.
Love your reaction Miss Bisscute. ❤❤❤ MP means Military Police. Your face with Snakes and worms are so cute and lovely😂😂
The pistol Leckie finds is a Type 14 Nambu. While it looks like the German Luger, it is actually based on the C96 Mauser pistol, with a similar internal mechanism.
MP is military police. PTSD is usually not something that comes right away, it can take a long time before it hits one, it could be as long as 10 years after the trauma before it shows it's ugly face. Things like combat stress reaction, depression etc would be more acute issues.
You forgot leeches. When they would go into rivers swamps or ponds they would get covered in blood sucking leeches that you had to burn off.
Bliss, about 44 years ago when I was in college, I used to get rides to and from my hometown with students who were going the same way. One time, a girl stopped by to pick me up, and when I was about to sit down in the passenger seat, she screamed, "DON'T SIT ON SEYMOUR!!!" Seymour was her pet snake, hiding in a pillowcase on the passenger seat. I said, "Does Seymour bite?" She said, "He doesn't open his mouth unless there is a mouse in front of it." I don't remember anything else about that ride, but we were all okay.
😬
The darkness begins in this this episode. It gets darker from now on...
Long time no see🙂 You look so beautiful with just a little makeup. Less is definitely more ❤
MP is short for Military Police.
Kinda want to see your take on some more HBO stuff from their golden era of television, maybe the joint project they did with the BBC, Rome, or possibly Deadwood. Mid-2000s HBO was a treat
The pistol Leckie found is most likely a Nambu varient. From what I remember there was a Papa Nambu, Mama Nambu, and Baby Nambu that the Japanese carried for the most part
"Papa loves Nambu........Mama loves Nambu!"
Rob Leckie was diagnosed with enuresis - nocternal incontenence. The stressors of all that he went through, the exhaustion, the constant rain, all of it took its toll on him.
I expect more thumbnail pictures to look like this one for the rest of The Pacific
German gun in band was Luger this is a Nambu. Both were office pistols. From Germany and Japan.
Put me in, coach. Take me out, coach, if there's snakes. 😂
The german pistol you were asking about is called a "Luger" This Japanese is different, not the same gun. Its called a "Nambu"
The cans were used as an alarm, they make noise when moved. MP stands for Military Police.
this epsiode had some similart veins to it that the lipton episode in band of brothers had (the one were joe and gaurnere got hit, and spears made the run through the german lines). Lipton, the guy naratting that episode talks about how fear is poison to moral, and that even a short break from the front is vital to many. However in this case, they didnt have a place to take a break from for a long time so people got worse. The guy strangling the japanese soldier with his hands is supposed to be horrible, and you see leckie and the other guy just staring with unease, so the only option is to take that guy off the frontlines because he is breaking. The other guy that commited suicide too. being stuck in the hellish jungle with no break was killing them mentally and physically.
Great Reaction Biss. 😊
6:24 that’s not a Luger, but a Japanese Type 14 Nambu handgun. Like in the European theater, men would often try to capture war trophies to have shipped back home. I actually own a battlefield captured Japanese Arisaka rifle.
Train as you fight. When the bullets start flying your training is what you fall back on. Muscle memory
Also that pistol was a nambu. Probably type A. That and the the type 100 msg were sought after as much as a Luger or stg44
MP is military police
I'm loving the series and reactions.❤❤
What most people forget is that the war in Europe (Band of Brothers) was a completely different situations than in the Pacific.
Different climates for one.
A "solid" Europe vs "Island hopping" which would require multiple "landings". So consider basically EVERY island as a isolated "D-Day type landing" all the time.
Different cultural views on Germans vs Japanese... which most Americans seriously "hated" over the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Different treatment of P.O.W.'s (Prisoners of War). And while it is true that there were issues on all sides, basically everyone agrees that the Japanese were the WORST when it came to mistreatment of prisoners, especially in regard to killing them for the most minor reasons.
But the biggest thing to keep in mind is that the European conflict was MOSTLY the US Army and US Army "Air Corpse" (later Air Force), while the Pacific was mostly Marines and Navy. Most USA Naval combat happened in the Pacific in regard to ship vs ship, while the Atlantic was more "submarine hunting" than anything else. Air combat was pretty even in Europe and Pacific, with mostly the "bombing runs" being different in Europe.
But the overall difference was Army combat in Europe with a "steady" line and sense of moving in a direction as "advancing on the enemy".
But the Marines had to constantly fight from one island to the next, getting bogged down in weeks/months long conflict for ONE island .... only to have to do it all over again for the next island. Resulting in more "chaotic" type combat since there was no real "front lines" to speak of. It was basically having to "dig in" and conquer an entire island one at a time.
dysentery is basically just major digestion issues caused from eating and drinking dirty food or water.
5:12
MP means Military Police.
6:40
I agree that this type of violence is not needed during war but the thing is that because the Marines or Army or Sailors being out in the Pacific with the conditions they were in, was not helping them mentally which drove so many to do acts like this. This is also why in today’s military depending on the job they will do medical tests on you mentally to see if you’re mentally fit to do it.
9:33
Unfortunately, many men who are in the military will act this way when they are of a certain rank. It was worse back then but now it’s kinda calmed down.
13:01
Enuresis is cause by many things but in this case, it’s cause by psychological problems. Now for Lucky you have to remember what he has gone through. He was switched from a position with his friends to now a job he hates, the woman he was falling for in Australia needing to leave him even though she was crazy for him, the weather conditions in the Pacific, the officer stealing his things that he claimed. Psychologically, he is not well.
14:52
He doesn’t tell the Captain to quiet down because his condition is different and he just needs more space and time to recover. Also he is whispering.
16:38
Idk if you remember him but he is the guy who deleted the Japanese soldier by choking him.
19:09
It was at this moment of him realizing that he needed to let go of the things that caused him psychological problems and move on to continue to be with his friends on the front line.
This episode is good for just showing what war can do to people who do the things these brave men do. That’s why I like this show because it shows more behind the scene when it comes to the men on what they deal with after the frontline.
The good stuff starts from episode 5 😘
You'll be right in time to finish this to start the 3rd miniseries of these, Masters of the Air starting in couple weeks.
6:25 Luger, but that's japanese version of it. Officer pistols from opposing side are trophies.
12:50 Enuresis: The weather, constantly wet, traumas, bad nutrition... uncontrollable peeing, usually problem at age of 70-100
Nambu. vs Luger
MP is Military Police.... the soldiers second biggest enemy after the actual enemy 🙂
At about 5 minutes 20 seconds. In the next war, there's going to be two people missing: me, and the M.P. they send after me. M.P. is probably Military Police, in this case.
@5:15 an MP is "Military Police." The US Navy version is/was SP for "Shore Patrol" but I think they may be called MPs now too. US Air Force calls theirs "Air Police" or just "AF Security Force."
@6:35 Not a Luger there. Only Germany had lugers. The Japanese primarily carried the Nambu pistol which at a quick glance has a similar shape to a Luger but is pretty much regarded as very very poor quality compared to a Luger. It fired an 8mm bullet with about half the energy as the 9mm bullet fired by the Luger and had numerous just awful design flaws that caused it to be pretty unreliable. The Luger on the other hand was highly reliable, possible even more so than the US Colt 1911 pistol.
@9:50 A commissioned officer stealing from an enlisted soldier and then hiding behind his rank is simply unconscionable. That.... would be dealt with. Back then and also now. One way or the other.
@12:10 Dysentery is a disease generally caused by poor sanitation and the contamination of food by fecal matter (poop). Causes bloody diarrhea which then obviously can contribute to further spread to others....
Another tough subject and great reaction.
There'll be a lot more of that.
She'll love SNAFU...😉
MP stands for Military Police. An MP is a Military Policeman.
Hey Bissflix You Got To Watch & React The Movie Call Titanic 1997. It And Great Movie But It Takes For Like 3 Hours On This Movies. Hope you Enjoy Your Reaction.💯
The pistol is a nambu not a Luger
I love the Tojo and Fuckface part too.
What's the matter with snakes? I've had snakes as pets since 1984 when I was in 9th grade. More people end up in emergency rooms because a dog attacked them. That even goes for venomous snakes.
You say at the end that you hope he ends up with Vera? You know that he is actually not sending the letters? That's why he never gets any letters back. But you will get answers to that, in the last episode!
Not sure if anybody's told you yet, but an MP is Military Police.
6:57 That is not the look of a man who is sane anymore. They need to send him home.
Thank you❤
Dysentery means chronic diarrhea caused by bacteria.
MP means Miliatry Police
Thank you ❤
Horrific is the word you were looking for.
MP = Military Police
Super cute 🥰
No it's not a Lugar it's the Japanese Nambu pistol. It does look similar to the Lugar's design though
Ahh okay, thank you for clarifying ❤️
Things r going to go down hill from here
dysentery = infection of the intestines resulting in severe diarrhea
One island battle crocodiles ate most of the Japanese.
MP.... Military Police
Most people who have watched both series seem to prefer Band of Brothers.
MP - Military Police.
The Conditions remind me a bit of what the Soldiers in Ukraine have to endour. Smoking Hot Summer, Endless Rain and Mud in Autum, freezing Cold in Winter and again Mud wherever you see in Spring. Soldiers always have to fight against Nature as much as the Enemy. Not equal much in every Part of the World, but always.
he had a urinary tract infection
Military Police MP !
Had to kill the Japanese soldier silently to not alert other enemy in the area.
Sis !!! If u wanna try something new then please try Indian movies ,,there are lots of hidden gems!!! Please explore them ,, Believe me U will get 200 times better experience than Hollywood, something new!!! It's my utmost request to bring up them infront of your audience!!! Hope I will get the the reply, lots of love from India!! I am your new subscriber!!!❤😊...
As you watch the Peleliu episodes, 5 & 6 I think keep in mind that this battle was totally unnecessary. I'll explain more but suffice to say for now it was demanded by a prima donna General. Peleliu could have and should have been bypassed.
M. P. = MILITARY POLICE.
I was hoping it would be a running joke and we never tell her what mp is.
MP: Military police.
12?! lol
reacted to kungfu hustle please👉👈
To want to help people is of course good. But increased government involvement in ''mental health'' means more chance for them to use it as weapon on people who don't go along with THE agenda. .
The Pacific was a war of extermination. Fueled by racism by each side. Only the eastern front was as matched in barbarity. The Chinese theater is also really under represented
You can't compare Band of Brothers to the Pacific....they were two totally different wars....you are doing both an injustice if you compare them
Sometimes she misreads the dialog. I guess it's because english isn't her first language.
Yeah she’s from Bulgaria
@@Soundtracks92 No she isnt... She is Romanian...
