    This is such a fresh take on Cruise's usual character archetypes: he starts out as a cowardly bureaucrat who undergoes a MASSIVE character development as he becomes the usual Tom Cruise role. His yelps are some of the best parts of his comedic chops. He's definitely living a video game avatar.

    • @kalt7990
      @kalt7990 8 месяцев назад +3

      True. It's quite odd watching TC start out so openly cowardice. There's WotW, but that role was very grim and serious. It's more accurate to describe the character as "afraid" or "panicky". And who wouldn't be with a bunch of giant alien murder machines roaming around disintegrating and liquefying everyone.

      I'm surprised so many like this movie. The time loop trope of repeating the same day over and over to get further each time has been done hundreds of times by basically every sci-fy show since the 60s to present, and in many instances much better. Stargate SG1 has some of the best. Star Trek, Black Mirror, Outer Limits, X-files, and literally hundreds more.

    The loop reboots in a 24 hour span to the past. All the previous times Cage dies it's the a day "after" he was sent to the base during the battle. The last reboot was from the morning he is sent to the base, a few hours after he meets Rita. Cage exploded the Omega, got covered in it's blood, then a split second before the Omega dies Cage resets. So he is back to earlier in the morning when he first landed in London.

I think that scene got across beautifully how emotionally compelling it would be for someone *you* only met that day to be so sincerely, earnestly attached to you. "I wish I could have gotten to know you better" is a great line.

    What really sells this movie is the editing. Instead of showing the full progression, you get quick cuts that just show repeated attempts - like when hes running towards Rita at the beach, gets t-boned by a truck, and immediately cuts back to him doing it again. Or you see a scene for the first time, and only then realize that for Cage this is attempt number 16 or so. They really got the pacing right with this one.

    It's meant to give the feeling of dying over and over again trying to do a speedrun. The best way I can describe it is my experience playing _The Last Us_ remastered on PS4. I only ever played on Grounded (it's hardest difficulty) and played SOOO many times. Not gonna go on a tangent, but it forces you to go ultra-instinct and after you learn enemy placements/walk cycles, it's like you're walking on air. Your third eye is open, you're unstoppable. It's like that really with ANYTHING you dedicate your time to. You become a sort of a demi-god of the specific think. That's what this film feels like.

    Definitely fine to laugh. Those scenes are definitely comedic and meant to give an audience a laugh apart from being part of the plot. This film was a nice sci-fi, action film. There was even talk about development of a sequel, but I don't think it's currently in progress.

    If you’re looking for another good movie or two to check out, I recommend “Looper” from 2012 which is a sci-fi crime story and it also has Emily Blunt in it
    The other one “Lawless” also from 2012 it is based on a true story and is a crime thriller set in the 1930’s...you might enjoy it especially if you like American Southern accents like Bill Paxton’s in this one.

    It's okay to laugh at good movies. If you're laughing *with* them, then it shows you're enjoying them. This film is definitely one that you laugh along with. I think some viewers don't like it when you laugh *AT* movies they love for being awful.

    Fantastic movie. A 5/5 for me. The best role for Cruise since Risky Business and Emily Blunt was just fantastic.

    Great reaction! Mi-a placut ca ai savurat atat partile funny la maxim cat si pe restu. Filmul avand cate putin din toate, (sci fi, drama, comedy, action), nu te poti plictisi la el. A must see undertated movie! Apropo, locuiesti in Romania?

    Almost everyone comments about how Rita died on the beach originally so, if Cage killed the Omega after the beach, she'd be dead permanently. BUT in the version of the day when she was killed on the beach, she stopped to look at him, interact with him (sort of), etc. If he's not there (or he changes what he does or where he is at that moment on the beach), she wouldn't necessarily be in that same spot at that same moment -- or, at the very least, she wouldn't have stopped right in that spot to look at him -- when the explosion would've hit her. Sort of a Butterfly Effect situation.

    I give it a 4.75. This only thing I dock the points for is that they don't 'Get it On' at least once during all the restarts.
