Thanks for covering this important event in Italian Renaissance history. I went down in Italian Renaissance wormhole last winter. It started with a book written by Eleanor Herman call murder in the Garden of God. It took me backwards and forwards and all over the place. I think my favorite was the story about Catherina Sforza the Tigress who married one of the Rairios. Finally I ended up reading a book about the women of Florence Italy
Correction: It was actually Giuliano Medici who became sick the day of the lunch, not one of the conspirators. They wanted to lure the two brothers outside of Florence to a nearby town called Fiesole. This is why they decided to attempt the assassination at mass instead. They wanted both brothers killed at the same time, not just Lorenzo.
I know. How hard is it to pronounce these names correctly? Love the video and all but you already put effort into researching, why not do a little more and have the names said right haha love the video tho very informational
Hi! Your videos always catch my atttention and they are pretty entertaining! Could you please make a video about Pied Piper-it seems that the story has got many dark secrets and twists and is left to us to speculate!
I was there and I can confirm that it was like this. I remember well those crazy eyes of Francesco when he stabbed Giuliano in the chest many times and screamed "muori, muori, muori". I remember well the face full of pain of the poor Giuliano when he died. It was terrible.
Great research and visuals. Thanks 👍 You need more subs. I heard a lot of people pronounciating them "med-ee-chee" "pat-zee", fran-chesko" etc.. My cousin's husband is Italian and calls pizza "pitza" 🍕 😋 Now you've made me hungry...
Can you do a video on where all those medieval legends and tales in nameless countries that we read about come from and the literary implications? They feel like a fever dream, and some don't seem to match up with any country, so it's like looking into another world, but I don't know where they come from and I remember a lot from my childhood. Did a trend start in the 1700's or something, and/or why were the stories designed the way they were, why all the prophecies and what inspired them, what influenced the creatures, social cultures in the fiction, and aesthetic, what were the general cultural inspirations and influences, etc.?

It's odd, that like the Romans, the late-medieval city-states of Italy excelled in both creative artistry, and brutal societal behavior. But, I suppose that's been true of many advanced-for-their-time cultures.
at first it was striking to my ear, but you get used to it. It is understandable if you only read these names in a book and not hear them in real life, which is a compliment to the author of the video.

I literally just got to that mission, and suddenly realised I didn’t know the actual real reasons behind the attempted coup.
@Dr170 I got the Assassin’s Creed II reference 😉
Damn right, Ezio killed them all
- "We failed to secretly poison them, what can we do now?"
- "Lets murder them in plain sight, during mass!"
- "Great idea, what could go wrong?"

And here I thought Assassin's Creed II was being overly dramatic about it for the sake of a fight... Just WOW.

Renaissance Italy not unified and the city-states were constantly at war with each other, hiring private mercenaries who were all about the brutality.
We are going to Florence in 10 days. I have been binge watching everything about the family. Fascinating. Thank you for this great information.
Always happy when I see a new video ;)

While I appreciate the info, it would be best IMO to write the names of persons, places and whatnot you cannot properly pronounce.
It's odd, that like the Romans, the late-medieval city-states of Italy excelled in both creative artistry, and brutal societal behavior. But, I suppose that's been true of many advanced-for-their-time cultures.
