Btw my "ponysona" is actually an Equestrian Sphinx. We're shown in season 7 that Sphinx's do exist in Equestria and that they might originate in Somnambula. In my headcanon, Sphinxes can grow or shrink at will (or depending on emotion) which is why the Sphinx in Somnambula was so big. It seems like Equestrian Sphinxes are basically cats with pony-like features (i.e. body shape and pegasi wings) but don't have cutie marks. Also! Fun fact: the color scheme of my avatar as well as the characteristics of blue hoop earrings and a big fluffy tail comes from the colors of my Sphinx OC here x3 The Sphinx OC has the same name as my Avatar. It's a very cute design, from just reading this I can tell there's huge lore potential if you ever stray into a fanfic writing of it. Perhaps a descendant of the Sphinx that Sonambula challenged meeting her in the G4 present? A G5 character who relays those old stories and proudly upholds the legacy of both her Sphinx relative and Sonambula? Who knows

Pretty sure Lauren faust said alicorns don't live forever, they just have long life spans. Also the writers for the last episode of mlp confirmed that twilight won't outlive her friends.
Something that really ticks me off about the g5 movie is that sunny doesn’t really get Any development. I honestly would rather have the movie end where Sunny realizes that magic Isn’t the only answer to fixing friendship, they could all come and be friends with magic or not. But instead , all sunny learns was she was right all along and she was rewarded for it. I’m trying not to be biased here but twilight became an alicorn because she was a great leader, sunny became an alicorn out of pure luck. Overall g5 wasn’t bad, although g4 will always have a place in my heart. I think I wont be watching the series,g4 had a nice ending and that’s all I need.
Oh I agree that I prefer G4 over G5. Structurally, as a movie, G5 had the better movie, but storytelling overall, and because I'm hugely biased towards G4, I still choose G4 any day.

Fun fact: the "Art of the My Little Pony Movie official art book" showed Storm King's original concept art. He was originally supposed to be a wolf made out of lightning. I would have loved to see that version of Storm King but no, instead Hasbro turned him into a generic comic relief and a power hungry villain with no motivation. I'm disappointed.

I still don't understand why G5 is in the same universe with G4, that's way too weird decision to me. I mean, New Generation could be just a little step to a great new story, independent of its successful ancestor. But no, we have G4.5 rather G5 and tons of questions about how two generations can even exist in one and the same timeline. Being a brand new world would be much better for G5 IMHO.
i can see where you're coming from with your love/hate relationship with the G5 movie, and why you're worried about the show. but the way i see it: the movie is just the pilot to G5, so having it answer every single question about the lore and what happened to Equestria would've made it extremely hard and exhausting to follow, and it also wouldn't leave a whole lot to be covered in the episodes. sure, there were moments where i also was like: "Wait, why did they feel the need to change that?; How exactly does that connect to the G4 world?; Why are the crystals important, and do they have some kinda hidden connection to the Mane 6?; etc", but seeing how we got an upcoming show, about 4 specials and a few dozen RUclips shorts coming next year, i feel like we got more than enough time to answer all the questions to tie up loose ends (....i hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the ass when the show actually comes out. i really liked the movie, and i'm genuinely hoping the show lives up to the promise). but at the end of the day, i respect your opinion. i might not agree with everything you said, especially when it comes to the designs and the animation of the G5 movie (i personally thought the movie looked absolutely breathtaking, and the designs were adorable, but that's just me), but it's really refreshing to see somebody actually critiquing the new movie instead of slamming it for "being different" from G4. good job on the video, and hopefully the show can change your mind when it finally comes around (but even if it doesn't, that's totally fine)
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! Like I said in my video, I didn't expect all questions to be answered in the movie. I just wanted a quick 30 second summary as to what happened between the end of FiM to now in G5 similarly to how Katara quickly summarized the conflict with the fire nation in ATLA. To not have to do extra homework to understand the movie would be ideal. A New Generation established within the movie that the ponies all used to be friends and then they stopped. But why? I just wanted one or two sentences of a tease of an answer X'D As for my other nitpicky questions, I can understand how all of that couldn't have fit into the movie X3 I do want them answered eventually, though! lol I certainly respect the amount of hard work that went into animating the G5 movie and I respect them wanting the designs to look different to sort of separate it from G4 (I say "sort of" because its still in the G4 universe and they refuse to let it die), but I am legitimately uncomfortable looking at the pony designs. Gathering the pictures for this video was tough (I'm not even joking, I was legit uncomfortable). But, like you said, we'll see what the future brings! Again, thank you for such a nice comment. I wouldve said that you did a pretty good job elaborating on the differences from the G4 and G5 movie, but I picked up a favortist vibe from you as you expounded on G4 and while I understand how grand and interesting G4 was and the movie was a good feat and entertaining tale to be had, G5 surprised me with what they did and I liked the new characters and the reason as to why Friendship can be extinct in G5 after all the work in G4 makes a reasonable sense and the songs and villains in G5 are more realistic in terms of societal progress and the whole topic of Fear and Racism is still relevant more so than friendship and trust in G4. Also, Starlight in the G4 movie, either by joining the Mane 6 and Spike on the journey or staying behind to look after the festival, wouldnt have been given any riveting performances or actions to commit to from the writing and at least she was there as to.........not being in the film at all. Either way, both the G4 and G5 movies have their faults and positives and G5 does have a small grain of promise as to how it can be executed in terms of a series and G4 is truly done and over; Plus, all the episodes and specials and the G4 movie are still there to see and preserved in all of its detail
You're absolutely right about the favoritism lol. I tried to be objective, but when you have 10 years of attachment to a show, it's hard to not be biased towards it. The G5 movie, I think, is objectively better than the G4 movie, I just can't separate my love for G4 AND I would have liked G5 a lot more if it were 100% its own thing, but since it's in the same universe as G4, I take issue with it >__< (along with the animation style that I just don't care for). I think Starlight could have had a good contribution, even if small. Logically, she would have done something in this situation. And even if her contribution was to protect Canterlot or her friends, then that would have been good. She could have gotten as much screen time as the princesses (who barely had any). In all honesty, like I said in my video, the G4 movie was trying to juggle a lot of stuff and crammed A LOT into this movie, trying to make it as epic as possible. But the juggling act didn't work out all that fantastically and ended up falling somewhat flat. The G5 movie, on the other hand, kept things small scale and knew what it was, so it was done a bit better. So yes, G5 had a better movie, but I still like G4 more...if that makes sense haha I guess we'll see what happens in the future for G5!
I loved both of these movies, but I am extremely disappointed with how G5 is progressing. You can REALLY tell the budget was lowered for the show/specials 😔
I see the events of FiM as a mythology for G5 like we see ancient Greek's myths. Some have bases in history (Troyan war) but some are just old beliefs and stories. But who knows.
In general, I like G4 more. It's just...objectively, the G5 movie is technically better? But I do prefer G4 100%. It feels more genuine and its a lot more pleasing to listen to and look at.
I personally loved both movies although G5 definitely frustrated me with all of G4’s rules seemingly being pushed aside. There’s only one tally that you gave out that I personally thought was unfair. G4 had a main cast of 7 characters while G5 had a main cast of 4. Because of this even if G5 only used 2 out of its 4 characters in the plot then the G4 movie has to use twice the amount of characters just to have a slightly higher percentage. I believe that the tally should have been given to G4 because in G4’s movie they were able to successfully utilize 5 characters (even though they had 7) while G5 was only able to utilize 3 characters. Giving this tally to G4 instead of G5 would, of course, result in a tie. And while that’s not the most exciting end result it also shows that these two movies are both amazing in their own ways. Of course this is only my opinion and I am obviously willing to hear what you guys think!

Hmm, I have yet to watch the G5 movie but even with what you mentioned here in its favor, I don't think I'll like it more than the G4 movie mainly because animation means a lot more to me. I probably would've given G4 two points for animation because it looks like great. G5 is just incredibly offputting and yeah, the ponies look similar in a bad way and way too much like Disney humans. I don't mind a 3d MLP but I think G5 shows that maybe I should mind, and a whole lot. I'm hoping there are some design changes for the series and maybe some color palette changes because yeah, the colors just don't hit like an MLP property. The G4 movie was far from perfect but it was beautiful. I hated the writing in Frozen 2 for example, but I couldn't deny that the animation was gorgeous. So I think I can give G4 a little bit of a pass. Although the changes you were talking about like the intro and the movie taking place earlier in the series rather than later definitely should've happened.
I actually have a really complicated relationship with the G5 movie. I felt a more satisfied feeling at the end of the G5 movie, but that's mostly because as a movie, and not as a MLP property, it felt complete. But there are things about G5 that do bother me that still make me hesitate to watch the series. I know when the MLP movie first came out in 2017, casual moviegoers didn't like that it was in 2D. So many of them considered it looking "childish" and "below quality." It makes me sad we've come to a point in society when 2D has childish associations =( I can NOT emphasize, though, how uncomfortable I was getting pictures of the G5 movie for this review. The style is just so off-putting DX I know they hired a DeviantArt pony artist as the person in charge of the art style for this movie. That person's style looks nice as 2D, but it did NOT translate well to 3D.
Like I said before I've never been a fan of MLP right now the series that are my main focus is hazbin hotel, helluva boss, my hero academia, one punch man, jojo's bizarre adventure, amphibia, dragon ball, yugioh (both the anime and the real life card game),and getting back into naruto. the show is interesting but again not my cup of tea. I just straight up hate the G5 movie with a burning passion because having it in the same world as G4 puts a mountains worth of rubble on the road and the movie doesnt avoid ANY of them. I've only watched 3 seasons, dropped it because of twilicorn and heard the rest from the internet. But the fact this movie forgets or ignores everything is infuriating, the ponies should've been dead by frostbite from the wendigos putting them into a new ice age by now. Heck, it's a holiday so everyone should know what splitting up would result in. Also where's Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Twilight? Did retiring cause them to become mortal? How does the sun and moon work now that nobody has magic? How does the magic disappear cause the ponies arent united? If they remember Twilight and the rest of the M6 then how long have they been gone and for goodness sake how is the ponies technology not even 10 years more advanced than Ponyville if they've been gone for so long? Did the library of Fillyxandria burn up? I can come up with more.
Yeah...like I said in the video, I would have PREFERRED G5 take place in a different universe with different characters entirely. Putting it in Equestria just adds too many questions and concerns.
Heck, it does A New Generation no favours either. It could have stood on its own, and for all intents and purposes I suppose it does, but because of the unnecessary connection to FiM, it's hard not to focus on that. There had better be payoff in the upcoming series. There will still be plotholes if there is, but at least there will be a point. The exact same story of ANG could have been told without any connection to FiM whatsoever.
What many grieved about the 2017 G4 film is for four reasons: The story felt rushed and the execution left a lot to be desired, the overreliance of CGI effects in the 2D visuals, an unnecessary fight with the seven protagonists, and (the most obvious) the addition of an idiotic Tirek ripoff as the twist villain, as execs find the original design and intent of the character "too scary".

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this movie as a rehash of the Hearth's Warming tale, but with less stakes. A movie-length retelling of that would have been interesting. Then again, I suppose Disney gave us that movie instead...which is all the more reason why I don't think A New Generation is that great of a movie.

What's sad about My Little Pony 2017 G4 not only there are better Magical Fantasy Animated Movies Such as classic 2D Disney Films, but also there are EVEN BETTER Theatrical Animated Movies based on TV shows With Stronger stories and better Stakes, pacing and Humor such as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 2004 The Simpsons Movie 2007 South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut 1999 and even The Bob's Burgers Movie 2022.
Although A New Generation is better with the humor and animation, I think the MLP Movie is better. The pacing and character development feels more genuine and the third act didn't felt rushed. Still, I enjoyed both movies.
I think the G5 mlp is really cool and adds much more for mlp theory channels to post however it's so hard to let go of the old mlp, especially if you grew up watching it..
My problem with that is, it's as if a deal with the devil was made here to make that happen, as it came with a significant cost. Not only is the discussion generated not actually about the movie, so much as speculating "what happened", which is 99% to do with FiM and what came after that, but now G5 can't actually stand fully on its own, and for what? I can't think of any aspect of the movie's plot that needed a connection to FiM to work.
To me it's G4. Getting more of the world was interesting honestly. I personally find that it did not hold as much weight as the season finales of the show, which were much more interesting. Sombra returning somehow would have been much better! (He's my favorite lol!)

"the faces all look the same, even more so than G4" What? Sorry but I heavily disagree. Even in the main cast (hitch,sunny, Izzy, Zipp and Pipp) their faces look different. Hitch has a complete different face shape than sunny. And it's not just because he's a male pony, since his face also looks different than Sprout's. Pipp also has a completely different body type than the other's as well. Unlike G4 where the ENTIRE main 6 looks exactly the same, as well as the majority of ponies. Only curtain types of characters look different in G4.
Mlp G5 movie should have been about That Bringing back magic won't Magically Make all pony kind go back to their old ways, With some ponies even growing up that way. It needs to show that Only Talking will Help Resolve a Situation, Not Bringing Something back.
I kind of wish they would have made the unicorns the royal like ones. In g4 they were usually stuck up, at least the one's in Canterlot. I wish they would have stuck with that.
Yeah I kind of agree about Twilight not being in character, or at least at the time the movie's supposed to take place in the series time. Things about her character just didn't make sense because of it. It would of made more sense earlier in the series. Like right after magical mystery cure, that would have been fire.
33:55 - 34:56 tbh, this singular aspect kinda ruins all of g5 for me. Not because it's unrealistic or doesn't make sense, but because it's just a miserable and depressing development, not to mention a complete slap in the face to g4. It just makes me not want to spend any time in this new series..
G5 shouldve been it's own thing just like all the other generations. I also kinda have a huge bias to G4 (or at least for s1-s5) I wouldn't thought of 'oh this is a continuation of something I like :-)!' I would think 'oh this is a different generation of something I like :-)!' it also have a problem. It kinda feels to much 'hip with the kids' I don't want to sound like the 'new thing bad old thing good' people but mlp g4 didn't had a lot of references of 10's technology and G3 didn't had any 00's technology references and so on. I personally think it was a fairer comparison for the G4 two-part opening an introduction to the world but then again I’m biased towards MLP and that brings up my main issues with the movie is that how is a Questria still alive I mean I’m glad they are but who’s growing crops and who’s changing the weather and the sun and moon And since there was no magic they needed electronics to keep them occupied and I’m worried that it’s going to be a humongous story point but I have to say I’m not gonna watch it anymore
Hey I know I’m late to this video but I’d just like to put a little thing I’d like to note, I think with all the magic in G4 it shines though with the colours of the backgrounds and the characters look like stylized horses yet still magical It has a charm to it because of that, with G5 it makes sense that the colours look more dull it’s because they haven’t used any magic for many of years or it’s been extinct for what we can assume so many years I haven’t watched it I wouldn’t know, but it makes more sense that the colours have been dulled for the G5 movie as theres no magic being used, that’s just a thing I’d like to note but I do think you have lovely opinions and respect them I just wanted to share this; all in all great video I love it you did amazing and keep up the good work

I feel like G4 has way more meaning, which is probably why it’s popular with teens and adults, as well as children. And I think, for me, it provides a lot of comfort. It reminds me of my childhood when I had a perfect group of friends; when we were all happy and naive. And now when I see my old friends, they all have so many other issues… I guess that’s what happens when you grow up. I’m not sure I like growing up
Oh for sure I DEFINITEY like G4 more and I think I always will. MLP:FiM is my favorite show of all time and regardless of the G5 movie being better than the G4 movie, G4 is a better experience overall (granted, we don't have all of G5 yet, but I'm projecting into the future haha). I don't think they'll capture lighting in a bottle twice. Also, growing up in inevitable for all of us. It can suck, it can be hard, but a world of new experiences is out there waiting for you. I wonder if I’m the only one to think that Sunny didn’t do anything significant… I mean that was proper to her. Izzy was the one to start the plot, she was also the one to make the fake crown so she could totally steal the real one too. And since Pipp is supposed to be a pop star, it would make so much more sense for her to compete against Alpha Beetle instead of Sunny (knowing that the latter supposedly doesn’t feel the beat anyway). Idk, she just felt a bit useless.
I loved G4, it was pretty good and the characters had time to develop. The G5 movie basically showed that Twilight and the Mane 6 failed. When I think about the flight in G4, I am pretty sure the pegasi didn't need magic to fly. But in G5 they are basically showing that the pegasi need magic to do a natural function.
Pegasi needed magic to fly in G4 as well. Remember that Celestia said that Tirek took the pegasi magic of flight in the season 4 finale? Flight is part of their magic along with weather manipulation and cloud walking.
I personally prefer My Little Pony: The Movie, but I have to admit that it’s because of G4 nostalgia. As individual films, My Little Pony: A New Generation is objectively better. It’s hard to watch The Movie without the context of Friendship Is Magic, but A New Generation stands on its own as a compelling story that does a decent enough job at introducing a bunch of new characters. I find Sunny and Izzy really charming in ANG (even if MYM ruined them), while the Mane 6 feel a little out of character in The Movie.
I personally enjoy both of these movies, but I like the g4 movie a lot better. I am pretty biased because that’s my top favorite movie. Though I respect your opinion seeing as how you do make some good points in this. (Though most people preferring the g5 movie over the g4 movie is one of the reasons that I find it a bit overrated) Also I do agree with you that Starlight should’ve had more of a role in the movie, even if it was just a minor one. I remember wishing that she would’ve gone on the journey with the mane 6 instead of Spike back when I saw the trailers for it. XD
Oh don't get me wrong, I might think that G5 has objectively the better movie, BUT I liked the G4 movie better. I just care about the characters, art style, songs, and everything more. I have vastly more attachment to G4 so my bias will always be with it. The lack of Starlight makes me sad, though =')

Starlight is in MLP the movie just as a cameo due to it being already written and them wanting to focus on mane 6 at a group together along with Spike at least she in the movie you find her cameo with her being near Trixie I don't when in the movie cause I only watch it once but I think at the beginning of the movie. Also I agree Fluttershy and AJ could done more in the like could Fluttershy be able to understand creatures that can't speak english would been helpful if the ponies wouldn't understand them and I think Aj could help by using her strength or being able to guide the group to places in Equestria where they can find help like come on the Apple family live all over the place in Equestria with a family of that size and if you don't count Rarity moment with Capper to be helpful she could find things that can help them defend themseves just in case like Armor, Weapons, ect cause she has a keen eye for looking for things.
I understand WHY she's just a cameo (she shows up in the beginning of the movie during the song "We've Got This Together", but I'm still pretty certain that's only because the movie was supposed to happen after season 4, and thus she wouldn't be around. But since the movie got delayed until after season 7, they decided to mostly keep the movie as is without making the proper adjustments (I mean, it's even weird that Shining Armor or Flurry Heart isnt around--weird ESPECIALLY since you'd think the Storm King would be interested in getting her magic as well). Starlight is too big and important of a character for her NOT to do something to defend her friends and Equestria--having her only be a cameo was a bit insulting. But I get it, they didn't want to redo so much of their movie. It just sucks >__
I never thought I could agree with everything a youtuber said but then it happened. Is it egotistical to enjoy my thoughts being said when I couldn't find the words myself. Cause I was sort of thinking what you're thinking, I just didn't fully realize it. For example the uncanny valley of the ponies faces. Yes! They ARE too human. I knew there was a problem with the designs I just couldn't verbalize it.
I get what you mean by them looking "human-esque". The ponies in g5 look like if Centaurworld characters were 3d animated. Plus, the Sheriff guy and the main girl look like siblings to me
I've watched MLP since g3, when g4 came I was confused as to why there were so many changes, but I gave the show a chance and liked it. So with that experience I gave g5 movie a go without a second thought, and it was good! But the pacing towards the end could've gotten a bit more work and the Nazi sub plot was... Meh. They made it too goofy and felt more cringy then there were any stakes. But overall a good movie 8/10.
I don’t really understand why everyone is so hyped about the new MLP series, or the movie for that matter, Sunny just doesn’t seem very interesting to me and seemed kind of naive and immature in the movie, and I really have no idea what she did that was so great to become an alicorn- like I get it, what she did was cool and all- but it didn’t seem to be THAT important, and it’s not like she did it alone- in fact- she didn’t really do any of the work- she just sat around, and gave some qUiRkY main character commentary, and basically got all the credit in the end, and I’m not saying someone else deserved it but- too soon hasbro- I already hate this new chdratacer and it’s only been 1 movie of an introduction to her- they should’ve left it at the end of generation 4, or at the very least left it at the new gen 5 movie, I really don’t think this needs another series when there’s nothing more to discuss or get through, maybe I’m just being salty because I grew up with gen 4, I dunno, I just really don’t like the new MLP squad, they just seem boring and plain, but I guess don’t judge a book by its cover, maybe I’ll check it out sometime in the future.
I wish they would sometimes, maybe not the new generation movie, but certainly the my little pony movie, assume at least a little that people have watched the series. I just feel like 'cause g4 is so tightly intervened into the series, they should have taken advantage of it. The movie could have worked a little better if it took place earlier in the series. I still really like it though.

New generation left me a lot of questions than answers and i dont think it will be answered because of the show looks dumbed down that its predecessor friend is magic tho i may be wrong a completely biased who knows maybe they have serious topics they will tackle

As for the immortality; i assume its like a marvel situation. An immortal character can live forever age wise; but if they take alot of damage or get very sick, then they can, theoretically die. Say like a murder battle or natural disaster- or something of the sorts.
I wonder if they refused to use all the characters that you mentioned didn't really get any screen time because, as you noted previously, there were already main characters that weren't really used at all. So, it was already a character-heavy piece. That coupled with it originally planned for a completely different point in the canon is a good explanation as to why (I imagine Starlight was thrown in at the start as just a bone)
It was mentioned in make your mark that opaline made twilight separate magic causing everyone to lose their magic and slowly grow apart over time but since you weren't including the series' I can't fault you for that
I am freaking late with this comment, but I wanted to share it: at 32:45 you said "who the heck are the Hypogriffs?", I agree with you on this part, who tf are they?!?!?!? Truly we haven't heard of them before! I think it would have been better if they would be replaced with the Kirins (I don't rememer from what season they are, but Fluttershy and A.J. were send to them for an friendship mission)!! Why didn't they just chose for those to be the "Hypogriffs! We already knew them and they life at the outskirts of Equestria! + we haven't even heard of the Kirins AFTER their episode! I would have loved to see them return. To add to that A.J. already made a friend there, this could also have her actually contributing to the plot, same goes for Flurretshy! I was really disapointed when I heard about the Hypogriffs... This is only about the G4 movie- I haven't watched the G5 movie yet-
I personally like the G4 movie more than G5 movie easily. The Storm King is underrated even with the MLP community. He was responsible for most of the events that occurred in that movie despite not having much screentime. May I suggest reading the MLP movie 2017 prequel comics if you haven't already? It provides more characterization for side characters in the G4 movie, including the Storm King. Remember, Tempest joined the Storm King because she initially thought that he was going to restore her broken horn if she succeeds on capturing the Alicorn princesses and steal their magic to empower the Staff of Socanas. As much as I love Discord, I understand why he wasn't in the 2017 movie. He would've erased the stakes in the movie. I kinda wished Starlight was active but I kinda see why since the Mane 6 are the primary focus of the movie and the show in general.
Sure, most of the plot happens because of the Strom King, but personally, I like my villains to have more screentime for me to sufficiently care haha. The Storm King had a fun personality, so having more scenes with him would have been cool! And while I'm sure the prequel comics are great, one shouldn't have to read supplemental material to fully enjoy a movie. The movie should be able to stand on its own. From a storytelling perspective, I understand that Discord and Starlight can't be involved because they, ESPECIALLY Discord, would have solved the problem too quickly. But logically, Discord SHOULD have been there because by that point in the story, he loved Fluttershy more than anyone, so the idea of someone coming to harm her would have set him off. It made no in-universe sense for him to not show up with some big event such as this happening. And Starlight is ALWAYS ready for a good fight/battle, so there was no reason for her not to be shown defending Canterlot. I argue that she's a main character with how much emphasis she got in the show and how she saved Equestria multiple times. So her not being involved is weird. But again, logically, this movie was being made before Starlight existed in the show, so it make sense why she wasn't involved. ARGH. So many of these issues would have been solved if they just released the movie after season 4 and not season 7 X'D
While i do agree with a lot of your points, i personally like the G4 movie a lot more. Yes the continuity errors are annoying, but i didnt even know it was supposed to take place after season 7 (i didnt even notice starlight because of the fact shes a background character) so i just assumed it was a bit after twilight became princess, even knowing now i personally can ignore the errors because for me even if its not canon this takes place before season 7 (yes i know thats kinda unfair but this is just how i can personally view it) And honestly to me G5 felt weaker and more geared for kids While yes MLP has always been for kids and I am probably biased, G5 kinda dumbs down the message i feel like And yes G4 outright said the message at the end of the episode for a good while for me it works more than suddenly everyone agreeing to not fight and/or be afraid of each other loke the end of G5 And for me Izzy just feels like they're trying to recreat pinkie, and it feels wrong They even give her a rap part in her song, which just doesn't work for me. And the characters feel to bland, and they appear to flawless for me right now, and while yes this is just the pilot, its also a movie where theu could have fleshed out the characters more than they did, but only really did that with sprout, even if not to much. For me the G4 movie just hits better, especially since what was added to the universe doesnt just go away in the series, it does come back. And with G5 while yes there will be time to explain the fact everyone is separated and the fact theres only ponies currently, I just personally dont lole the decision to not explain why the 3 tribes are seperated in the movie, since that is the main point of the movie. Yes this was mostly me pointing out the flaws in G5, and yes im probably biased, but they really should have just let G5 be its own thing instead of a years later of G4 because for a lot of people it just wont work. Yes the G5 pilot has its parts where it shines, but for me I just cant enjoy it nearly as much as the G4 movie because it just seems so bland and it kinda ruins everything i watched in G4, completely ruining the amazing end of the show. Again yes this is probably coming from a biased eye, but thats going to be inevitable with a lot of people who love and grew up with G4.
The G4 movie canonically takes place after season 7. It takes place between the season 7 finale and the season 8 opener. This is evidenced by the characters discussing the events of the movie in the season 8 opener, and the movie locations becoming available on the friendship map. Twilight also becomes inspired to open her school due to what she learned in the movie. The movie was planned to come out after season 4, which would make Twilight's anxiety over being a princess make more sense, but for REASONS, they pushed it to be after season 7 which...only hurt the movie imo. ALL THAT BEING SAID, I still think G5 is the better movie, BUT like you, I prefer the G4 movie. I'm biased towards G4. I care about the world and the characters more (and the songs and visuals). Plus, at present, G4 just feels more magical than G5.
Mlp fim is my childhood, next to super Mario world, and the lsp show. I watched it on loop on Netflix and got so excited whenever a new season came. I like the designs of g5 and that a male is a main character, which I thought rainbow and aj were as a lil kid. G4 introduced me to a whole world of fandom, and I still rp as a pony almost everyday in pony town. Also also I love your oc chefs kiss
I agree with everything here except the villan. I'm sorry but how is Tempest not the big bad of the G4 movie. She was the one showed off in the trailers, the one who had more screen time, the one who impacted the main six the most. Heck she had a whole book going more in depth with her backstory. The story king is just another part of Tempest story. How she finally had trust in someone and was betrayed again. So in my opinion, G4 wins for villans. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk
Tempest was certainly more important than the Storm King BUT the story framed the Storm King as the official big bad that we would be worrying about--he was the final bad that needed to be vanquished. It's like if in the Lion King if the story followed the hyenas and we only got a little bit of Scar. Scar is still the big bad and has his final fight with Simba, we just care a bit less because we've been following the hyenas around everywhere. The Storm King in G4 was 10000% unnecessary, but since he was there, and considering his role, he counts as the big bad. BUT if you don't see him as such, I respect that. I honestly wish he wasn't...THAT...but well, the G4 movie isn't perfect =P
I always thought G4’s movie wasn’t doing Twighlight right. She seemed angry and agitated when at this point she had learned the magic of friendship and didn’t have anything pushing her to become so angry. I don’t get it. It seemed really out of character. But that’s just me.
TO BE FAIR, the movie was initially supposed to take place after season 4, when Twilight was a bit less mature compared to after season 7...in which case the writers should have characterized her better. BUT THEN AGAIN when Twilight is stressed, she can be kind of a jerk and does stupid things...a bad characteristic that followed her even through season 9 (e.g. Twilight manipulating a situation to where Pinkie Pie gets eliminated from a game because she (Twilight) was losing). So, it's somewhat believable.
The reason why is because G4 have a villain but most of all just seeing new characters the stop the villain. G5 don’t have villain but instead bring back pony together and making new friend.
Yeahhh I can see where you're going from, and I totally respect your opinion I'll give the new series a chance, we can only hope it even *answers* most of the questions (maybe it might give us hints and we have to figure it out ourselves again) and if I didn't like it I'll leave it at where it is and keep enjoying g4, because I grew up on it and I can't abandon ponies and now the video -literally everything except the ones after agreed with most of this, yes *in G5:* I feel like maybe if sprout was taken more seriously by the writers it would make a great impact on how the conflict is served, just by making sprout even a bit more intimidating (and if he were still comedic type I would've liked it more if he was just a minor antagonist and maybe queen haven was the big bad, since they made a deal out of her crown like maybe she can be like a mother gothel to zipp or something) and I just realized this turned into the villain thing *as for G4:* I wanted to see more of celano's pirate crew, idk I just really like birds as for the storm king, he feels like a blue tirek... when he was starved to death they really could've done something with his weather powers like with knox (or onox if you prefer) in legend of zelda: oracle of seasons where he destroyed the 4 seasons by sinking the seasonal temples and capturing Din, oracle of seasons the stakes were really high there but for some reason the writers really like to play it safe because its mainly a kids show (even though faust intended to make fim for all audiences) so yeah the villain could've been handled better here too (welp this turned into the villain paragraph too) -animation and style *G4* some movements feel sluggish and overly smooth like those 16-bit games they make but its very beautiful overall (except for those few angles because they look too round and soft sometimes) *G5* uncanny valley ponies, still not too used to looking at them but I guess they're ok if they weren't too limited expressions wise it would've made a really good art style, a shame because the animation is great but the designs could have been better -the songs *G4* I like Daniel Ingram's songs, but some songs sound a bit off topic, like the one in the pirate crew conversion with rainbow dash, it doesn't sound very... pirate-y (I like it tho) but the variety is cool yes *G5* no words, just pop and smells like teen spirit -The characters here, I'll sum them up *G4* mostly known, but for those who dont: -purple nerd with ocpd -yellow therapist -the one thats 20% cooler than the others -apple addicted workaholic -pink adhd patient -white overly dramatic fashionista -late bloomer lizard that the writers hate *G5* -dear princess twilight, today I will share my experiences with you to tell you this: *I DIDNT LEARN ANYTHIN' I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG* accept my fanmail pleas *-this is how a unico-* -Man I hate lying to everyone I want the old days -PICK, UP, THAT, LITTER -Glowin up find a glove fly around buhasjjbuygywdiuyg -mommy, why are vaccines bad for me -FiM continuity *G5* -"you cant just throw 10 years of love and tolerance out the window for the sake of plot-" G5: *hold my grinded hooves* *G4* the purple nerd panics yet again after an not threatening blue tirek waves a glowy stick in the air and yet cadence's breathing trick is useless, just like her entire existence and that was the whole thing, sorry to make you read everything to sum things up basically the same ingredients different brand

So helpful in growing as a person and in my faith too, I checked out your website and saw that Jesus is a huge part of your life too which is awesome!! I love how much MLP's lessons and stories of redemption and transformation like with Starlight mirror biblical themes and stuff. Seriously one of the best TV shows of all time haha.
I feel like Trixie could have contributed to the fight too, like we know what she's capable of, she is the trickster who does useful things without magic! She did that before, so can't she do it again, better yet, along side with Starlight? I love Trixie and Starlight, they're my favourite characters I'm bit biased but they deserve more in the movie!!!
The thing of g5 is that the plot doesn't digest. If it had it own characters and own lore,I would have more appreciated it. And I have to talk to the manager of g5 because wtf dude the animations don't look cool

To me, MLP: The Movie (2017), along with S7, feels a perfect series finale to the show. I just wished they had ended it with the movie (And S7) as the last two seasons (S8 [Barring The Washouts] & S9) and MLP: ANG really sucked.😑 But hey, that's just *my* opinion, so I won't judge anyone else's.
Aloubell, have you seen the new g5 mini series on RUclips, mlp tell your tale? If so you should look into it. It gets alot of flack for its art style, but personally I like it. I like how the ponys are all different shapes and sizes. Even the background ponies all look unique. I love the g4 style. But alot of the characters have same body syndrome
I have not seen it yet. I'll probably get around to it at some point lol I don't...TERRIBLY mind the art style. I do like G4s better, but to the G5 mini series' defense, it isn't the main G5 show, so its allowed to look a little cheap haha
I only watched the g5 movie for Vanessa Hudgens. Idk if i want to get into the g5 lore since i still can't get over g4 and all the good memories with it :c

Btw my "ponysona" is actually an Equestrian Sphinx. We're shown in season 7 that Sphinx's do exist in Equestria and that they might originate in Somnambula. In my headcanon, Sphinxes can grow or shrink at will (or depending on emotion) which is why the Sphinx in Somnambula was so big.
It seems like Equestrian Sphinxes are basically cats with pony-like features (i.e. body shape and pegasi wings) but don't have cutie marks.

Perhaps a descendant of the Sphinx that Sonambula challenged meeting her in the G4 present? I thought alicorns were immortal. So I was a bit surprised that Twilight and the other princesses probably kicked the bucket.
Yeah I am not sure what the writers are doing with the alicorns. They are either alive and just somewhere else, or they are gone...idk anymore DX

Isn’t the only answer to fixing friendship, they could all come and be friends with magic or not. But instead , all sunny learns was she was right all along and she was rewarded for it. I’m trying not to be biased here but twilight became an alicorn because she was a great leader, sunny became an alicorn out of pure luck. Overall g5 wasn’t bad, although g4 will always have a place in my heart.
I think I wont be watching the series,g4 had a nice ending and that’s all I need.
Oh I agree that I prefer G4 over G5. Structurally, as a movie, G5 had the better movie, but storytelling overall, and because I'm hugely biased towards G4, I still choose G4 any day.

Fun fact: the "Art of the My Little Pony Movie official art book" showed Storm King's original concept art. He was originally supposed to be a wolf made out of lightning. I would have loved to see that version of Storm King but no, instead Hasbro turned him into a generic comic relief and a power hungry villain with no motivation.

I still don't understand why G5 is in the same universe with G4, that's way too weird decision to me. I mean, New Generation could be just a little step to a great new story, independent of its successful ancestor. But no, we have G4.5 rather G5 and tons of questions about how two generations can even exist in one and the same timeline. Being a brand new world would be much better for G5 IMHO.

i can see where you're coming from with your love/hate relationship with the G5 movie, and why you're worried about the show. but the way i see it: the movie is just the pilot to G5, so having it answer every single question about the lore and what happened to Equestria would've made it extremely hard and exhausting to follow, and it also wouldn't leave a whole lot to be covered in the episodes. sure, there were moments where i also was like: "Wait, why did they feel the need to change that?; How exactly does that connect to the G4 world?; Why are the crystals important, and do they have some kinda hidden connection to the Mane 6?; etc", but seeing how we got an upcoming show, about 4 specials and a few dozen RUclips shorts coming next year, i feel like we got more than enough time to answer all the questions to tie up loose ends (....i hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the ass when the show actually comes out. i really liked the movie, and i'm genuinely hoping the show lives up to the promise).
but at the end of the day, i respect your opinion. i might not agree with everything you said, especially when it comes to the designs and the animation of the G5 movie (i personally thought the movie looked absolutely breathtaking, and the designs were adorable, but that's just me), but it's really refreshing to see somebody actually critiquing the new movie instead of slamming it for "being different" from G4. good job on the video, and hopefully the show can change your mind when it finally comes around (but even if it doesn't, that's totally fine)

Like I said in my video, I didn't expect all questions to be answered in the movie. I just wanted a quick 30 second summary as to what happened between the end of FiM to now in G5 similarly to how Katara quickly summarized the conflict with the fire nation in ATLA. To not have to do extra homework to understand the movie would be ideal. A New Generation established within the movie that the ponies all used to be friends and then they stopped. But why? I just wanted one or two sentences of a tease of an answer X'D
As for my other nitpicky questions, I can understand how all of that couldn't have fit into the movie X3 I do want them answered eventually, though! lol
I certainly respect the amount of hard work that went into animating the G5 movie and I respect them wanting the designs to look different to sort of separate it from G4 (I say "sort of" because its still in the G4 universe and they refuse to let it die), but I am legitimately uncomfortable looking at the pony designs. Gathering the pictures for this video was tough (I'm not even joking, I was legit uncomfortable).
But, like you said, we'll see what the future brings!

I wouldve said that you did a pretty good job elaborating on the differences from the G4 and G5 movie, but I picked up a favortist vibe from you as you expounded on G4 and while I understand how grand and interesting G4 was and the movie was a good feat and entertaining tale to be had, G5 surprised me with what they did and I liked the new characters and the reason as to why Friendship can be extinct in G5 after all the work in G4 makes a reasonable sense and the songs and villains in G5 are more realistic in terms of societal progress and the whole topic of Fear and Racism is still relevant more so than friendship and trust in G4. Also, Starlight in the G4 movie, either by joining the Mane 6 and Spike on the journey or staying behind to look after the festival, wouldnt have been given any riveting performances or actions to commit to from the writing and at least she was there as to.........not being in the film at all. Either way, both the G4 and G5 movies have their faults and positives and G5 does have a small grain of promise as to how it can be executed in terms of a series and G4 is truly done and over; Plus, all the episodes and specials and the G4 movie are still there to see and preserved in all of its detail
You're absolutely right about the favoritism lol. I tried to be objective, but when you have 10 years of attachment to a show, it's hard to not be biased towards it.
The G5 movie, I think, is objectively better than the G4 movie, I just can't separate my love for G4 AND I would have liked G5 a lot more if it were 100% its own thing, but since it's in the same universe as G4, I take issue with it >__< (along with the animation style that I just don't care for).
I think Starlight could have had a good contribution, even if small. Logically, she would have done something in this situation. And even if her contribution was to protect Canterlot or her friends, then that would have been good. She could have gotten as much screen time as the princesses (who barely had any). In all honesty, like I said in my video, the G4 movie was trying to juggle a lot of stuff and crammed A LOT into this movie, trying to make it as epic as possible. But the juggling act didn't work out all that fantastically and ended up falling somewhat flat.
The G5 movie, on the other hand, kept things small scale and knew what it was, so it was done a bit better.
So yes, G5 had a better movie, but I still like G4 more...if that makes sense haha

Me and my Dad also think it's unfair for Shining Armor not to appear in the movie. He might have been surprisingly useful and he just went to waste-
I loved both of these movies, but I am extremely disappointed with how G5 is progressing. You can REALLY tell the budget was lowered for the show/specials 😔
I've chosen to not watch the G5 series, but I'm not exactly hearing the best things about it >___
I see the events of FiM as a mythology for G5 like we see ancient Greek's myths. Some have bases in history (Troyan war) but some are just old beliefs and stories. But who knows.
I agree, the animation is pretty slow in G5. I had the movie on 1.5 speed for most of it and it still looked slow at times.

In general, I like G4 more. It's just...objectively, the G5 movie is technically better? But I do prefer G4 100%. It feels more genuine and its a lot more pleasing to listen to and look at.

I personally loved both movies although G5 definitely frustrated me with all of G4’s rules seemingly being pushed aside. There’s only one tally that you gave out that I personally thought was unfair. G4 had a main cast of 7 characters while G5 had a main cast of 4. Because of this even if G5 only used 2 out of its 4 characters in the plot then the G4 movie has to use twice the amount of characters just to have a slightly higher percentage. I believe that the tally should have been given to G4 because in G4’s movie they were able to successfully utilize 5 characters (even though they had 7) while G5 was only able to utilize 3 characters. Giving this tally to G4 instead of G5 would, of course, result in a tie. And while that’s not the most exciting end result it also shows that these two movies are both amazing in their own ways. Of course this is only my opinion and I am obviously willing to hear what you guys think!
Yeah, you're right about the percentages. At the time I couldn't think of a better way to compare the character usage between movies haha, but you do have a point ^_^
Hmm, I have yet to watch the G5 movie but even with what you mentioned here in its favor, I don't think I'll like it more than the G4 movie mainly because animation means a lot more to me. I probably would've given G4 two points for animation because it looks like great. G5 is just incredibly offputting and yeah, the ponies look similar in a bad way and way too much like Disney humans. I don't mind a 3d MLP but I think G5 shows that maybe I should mind, and a whole lot. I'm hoping there are some design changes for the series and maybe some color palette changes because yeah, the colors just don't hit like an MLP property. The G4 movie was far from perfect but it was beautiful. I hated the writing in Frozen 2 for example, but I couldn't deny that the animation was gorgeous. So I think I can give G4 a little bit of a pass. Although the changes you were talking about like the intro and the movie taking place earlier in the series rather than later definitely should've happened.
I actually have a really complicated relationship with the G5 movie. I felt a more satisfied feeling at the end of the G5 movie, but that's mostly because as a movie, and not as a MLP property, it felt complete. But there are things about G5 that do bother me that still make me hesitate to watch the series.
I know when the MLP movie first came out in 2017, casual moviegoers didn't like that it was in 2D. So many of them considered it looking "childish" and "below quality." It makes me sad we've come to a point in society when 2D has childish associations =(
I can NOT emphasize, though, how uncomfortable I was getting pictures of the G5 movie for this review. The style is just so off-putting DX
I know they hired a DeviantArt pony artist as the person in charge of the art style for this movie. That person's style looks nice as 2D, but it did NOT translate well to 3D.

Like I said before I've never been a fan of MLP right now the series that are my main focus is hazbin hotel, helluva boss, my hero academia, one punch man, jojo's bizarre adventure, amphibia, dragon ball, yugioh (both the anime and the real life card game),and getting back into naruto. the show is interesting but again not my cup of tea. I just straight up hate the G5 movie with a burning passion because having it in the same world as G4 puts a mountains worth of rubble on the road and the movie doesnt avoid ANY of them.
I've only watched 3 seasons, dropped it because of twilicorn and heard the rest from the internet. But the fact this movie forgets or ignores everything is infuriating, the ponies should've been dead by frostbite from the wendigos putting them into a new ice age by now. Heck, it's a holiday so everyone should know what splitting up would result in.
Also where's Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Twilight? Did retiring cause them to become mortal? How does the sun and moon work now that nobody has magic? How does the magic disappear cause the ponies arent united? If they remember Twilight and the rest of the M6 then how long have they been gone and for goodness sake how is the ponies technology not even 10 years more advanced than Ponyville if they've been gone for so long? Did the library of Fillyxandria burn up?

Yeah...like I said in the video, I would have PREFERRED G5 take place in a different universe with different characters entirely. Putting it in Equestria just adds too many questions and concerns.
Heck, it does A New Generation no favours either. It could have stood on its own, and for all intents and purposes I suppose it does, but because of the unnecessary connection to FiM, it's hard not to focus on that. There had better be payoff in the upcoming series. There will still be plotholes if there is, but at least there will be a point. The exact same story of ANG could have been told without any connection to FiM whatsoever.
What many grieved about the 2017 G4 film is for four reasons: The story felt rushed and the execution left a lot to be desired, the overreliance of CGI effects in the 2D visuals, an unnecessary fight with the seven protagonists, and (the most obvious) the addition of an idiotic Tirek ripoff as the twist villain, as execs find the original design and intent of the character "too scary".

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this movie as a rehash of the Hearth's Warming tale, but with less stakes. A movie-length retelling of that would have been interesting. Then again, I suppose Disney gave us that movie instead...which is all the more reason why I don't think A New Generation is that great of a movie.

What's sad about My Little Pony 2017 G4 not only there are better Magical Fantasy Animated Movies Such as classic 2D Disney Films, but also there are EVEN BETTER Theatrical Animated Movies based on TV shows With Stronger stories and better Stakes, pacing and Humor such as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 2004 The Simpsons Movie 2007 South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut 1999 and even The Bob's Burgers Movie 2022.
Although A New Generation is better with the humor and animation, I think the MLP Movie is better. The pacing and character development feels more genuine and the third act didn't felt rushed. Still, I enjoyed both movies.
I think the G5 mlp is really cool and adds much more for mlp theory channels to post however it's so hard to let go of the old mlp, especially if you grew up watching it..
My problem with that is, it's as if a deal with the devil was made here to make that happen, as it came with a significant cost. Not only is the discussion generated not actually about the movie, so much as speculating "what happened", which is 99% to do with FiM and what came after that, but now G5 can't actually stand fully on its own, and for what? I can't think of any aspect of the movie's plot that needed a connection to FiM to work.
To me it's G4. Getting more of the world was interesting honestly. I personally find that it did not hold as much weight as the season finales of the show, which were much more interesting. Sombra returning somehow would have been much better! (He's my favorite lol!)

What? Sorry but I heavily disagree. Even in the main cast (hitch,sunny, Izzy, Zipp and Pipp) their faces look different. Hitch has a complete different face shape than sunny. And it's not just because he's a male pony, since his face also looks different than Sprout's. Pipp also has a completely different body type than the other's as well. Unlike G4 where the ENTIRE main 6 looks exactly the same, as well as the majority of ponies. Only curtain types of characters look different in G4.
Eh, it's just my opinion. I'm also super biased haha G5 models just doesn't look good to me (visually, I mean), so I will always defend G4 haha

Yeah I kind of agree about Twilight not being in character, or at least at the time the movie's supposed to take place in the series time. Things about her character just didn't make sense because of it. It would of made more sense earlier in the series. Like right after magical mystery cure, that would have been fire.

G5 shouldve been it's own thing just like all the other generations. I also kinda have a huge bias to G4 (or at least for s1-s5) I wouldn't thought of 'oh this is a continuation of something I like :-)!' I would think 'oh this is a different generation of something I like :-)!' it also have a problem. It kinda feels to much 'hip with the kids' I don't want to sound like the 'new thing bad old thing good' people but mlp g4 didn't had a lot of references of 10's technology and G3 didn't had any 00's technology references and so on. For the G4 movie Well I would just be repeating you ;-;
I personally think it was a fairer comparison for the G4 two-part opening an introduction to the world but then again I’m biased towards MLP and that brings up my main issues with the movie is that how is a Questria still alive I mean I’m glad they are but who’s growing crops and who’s changing the weather and the sun and moon And since there was no magic they needed electronics to keep them occupied and I’m worried that it’s going to be a humongous story point but I have to say I’m not gonna watch it anymore

Hey I know I’m late to this video but I’d just like to put a little thing I’d like to note, I think with all the magic in G4 it shines though with the colours of the backgrounds and the characters look like stylized horses yet still magical It has a charm to it because of that, with G5 it makes sense that the colours look more dull it’s because they haven’t used any magic for many of years or it’s been extinct for what we can assume so many years I haven’t watched it I wouldn’t know, but it makes more sense that the colours have been dulled for the G5 movie as theres no magic being used, that’s just a thing I’d like to note but I do think you have lovely opinions and respect them I just wanted to share this; all in all great video I love it you did amazing and keep up the good work

I feel like G4 has way more meaning, which is probably why it’s popular with teens and adults, as well as children. And I think, for me, it provides a lot of comfort. It reminds me of my childhood when I had a perfect group of friends; when we were all happy and naive. And now when I see my old friends, they all have so many other issues… I guess that’s what happens when you grow up. I’m not sure I like growing up
Oh for sure I DEFINITEY like G4 more and I think I always will. MLP:FiM is my favorite show of all time and regardless of the G5 movie being better than the G4 movie, G4 is a better experience overall (granted, we don't have all of G5 yet, but I'm projecting into the future haha). I don't think they'll capture lighting in a bottle twice.

I wonder if I’m the only one to think that Sunny didn’t do anything significant… I mean that was proper to her.
Izzy was the one to start the plot, she was also the one to make the fake crown so she could totally steal the real one too. And since Pipp is supposed to be a pop star, it would make so much more sense for her to compete against Alpha Beetle instead of Sunny (knowing that the latter supposedly doesn’t feel the beat anyway).
Idk, she just felt a bit useless.
Pipp for sure should have done the dance battle. She otherwise has no purpose DX
I loved G4, it was pretty good and the characters had time to develop. The G5 movie basically showed that Twilight and the Mane 6 failed. When I think about the flight in G4, I am pretty sure the pegasi didn't need magic to fly. But in G5 they are basically showing that the pegasi need magic to do a natural function.
Pegasi needed magic to fly in G4 as well. Remember that Celestia said that Tirek took the pegasi magic of flight in the season 4 finale? Flight is part of their magic along with weather manipulation and cloud walking.

I personally prefer My Little Pony: The Movie, but I have to admit that it’s because of G4 nostalgia. As individual films, My Little Pony: A New Generation is objectively better. It’s hard to watch The Movie without the context of Friendship Is Magic, but A New Generation stands on its own as a compelling story that does a decent enough job at introducing a bunch of new characters. I find Sunny and Izzy really charming in ANG (even if MYM ruined them), while the Mane 6 feel a little out of character in The Movie.
With the songs in g5 I agree entirely with you in every point you made!

I personally enjoy both of these movies, but I like the g4 movie a lot better. I am pretty biased because that’s my top favorite movie. Though I respect your opinion seeing as how you do make some good points in this. (Though most people preferring the g5 movie over the g4 movie is one of the reasons that I find it a bit overrated) Also I do agree with you that Starlight should’ve had more of a role in the movie, even if it was just a minor one. I remember wishing that she would’ve gone on the journey with the mane 6 instead of Spike back when I saw the trailers for it. XD
Oh don't get me wrong, I might think that G5 has objectively the better movie, BUT I liked the G4 movie better. I just care about the characters, art style, songs, and everything more. I have vastly more attachment to G4 so my bias will always be with it.

Starlight is in MLP the movie just as a cameo due to it being already written and them wanting to focus on mane 6 at a group together along with Spike at least she in the movie you find her cameo with her being near Trixie I don't when in the movie cause I only watch it once but I think at the beginning of the movie.
Also I agree Fluttershy and AJ could done more in the like could Fluttershy be able to understand creatures that can't speak english would been helpful if the ponies wouldn't understand them and I think Aj could help by using her strength or being able to guide the group to places in Equestria where they can find help like come on the Apple family live all over the place in Equestria with a family of that size and if you don't count Rarity moment with Capper to be helpful she could find things that can help them defend themseves just in case like Armor, Weapons, ect cause she has a keen eye for looking for things.
I understand WHY she's just a cameo (she shows up in the beginning of the movie during the song "We've Got This Together", but I'm still pretty certain that's only because the movie was supposed to happen after season 4, and thus she wouldn't be around. But since the movie got delayed until after season 7, they decided to mostly keep the movie as is without making the proper adjustments (I mean, it's even weird that Shining Armor or Flurry Heart isnt around--weird ESPECIALLY since you'd think the Storm King would be interested in getting her magic as well). Starlight is too big and important of a character for her NOT to do something to defend her friends and Equestria--having her only be a cameo was a bit insulting.
But I get it, they didn't want to redo so much of their movie. It just sucks >__

I never thought I could agree with everything a youtuber said but then it happened. Is it egotistical to enjoy my thoughts being said when I couldn't find the words myself. Cause I was sort of thinking what you're thinking, I just didn't fully realize it. For example the uncanny valley of the ponies faces. Yes! They ARE too human. I knew there was a problem with the designs I just couldn't verbalize it.
I get what you mean by them looking "human-esque". The ponies in g5 look like if Centaurworld characters were 3d animated. Plus, the Sheriff guy and the main girl look like siblings to me

I've watched MLP since g3, when g4 came I was confused as to why there were so many changes, but I gave the show a chance and liked it. So with that experience I gave g5 movie a go without a second thought, and it was good! But the pacing towards the end could've gotten a bit more work and the Nazi sub plot was... Meh. They made it too goofy and felt more cringy then there were any stakes.
But overall a good movie 8/10.
Hitch and Zipp are my favorite characters too, out of g5 I mean. Out of g4 my favorite character is Luna hands down.

I don’t really understand why everyone is so hyped about the new MLP series, or the movie for that matter, Sunny just doesn’t seem very interesting to me and seemed kind of naive and immature in the movie, and I really have no idea what she did that was so great to become an alicorn- like I get it, what she did was cool and all- but it didn’t seem to be THAT important, and it’s not like she did it alone- in fact- she didn’t really do any of the work- she just sat around, and gave some qUiRkY main character commentary, and basically got all the credit in the end, and I’m not saying someone else deserved it but- too soon hasbro- I already hate this new chdratacer and it’s only been 1 movie of an introduction to her- they should’ve left it at the end of generation 4, or at the very least left it at the new gen 5 movie, I really don’t think this needs another series when there’s nothing more to discuss or get through, maybe I’m just being salty because I grew up with gen 4, I dunno, I just really don’t like the new MLP squad, they just seem boring and plain, but I guess don’t judge a book by its cover, maybe I’ll check it out sometime in the future.

I wish they would sometimes, maybe not the new generation movie, but certainly the my little pony movie, assume at least a little that people have watched the series. I just feel like 'cause g4 is so tightly intervened into the series, they should have taken advantage of it. The movie could have worked a little better if it took place earlier in the series. I still really like it though.

As for the immortality; i assume its like a marvel situation. An immortal character can live forever age wise; but if they take alot of damage or get very sick, then they can, theoretically die. Say like a murder battle or natural disaster- or something of the sorts.
I wonder if they refused to use all the characters that you mentioned didn't really get any screen time because, as you noted previously, there were already main characters that weren't really used at all. So, it was already a character-heavy piece. That coupled with it originally planned for a completely different point in the canon is a good explanation as to why (I imagine Starlight was thrown in at the start as just a bone)
It was mentioned in make your mark that opaline made twilight separate magic causing everyone to lose their magic and slowly grow apart over time but since you weren't including the series' I can't fault you for that

at 32:45 you said "who the heck are the Hypogriffs?", I agree with you on this part, who tf are they?!?!?!? Truly we haven't heard of them before! I think it would have been better if they would be replaced with the Kirins (I don't rememer from what season they are, but Fluttershy and A.J. were send to them for an friendship mission)!!
Why didn't they just chose for those to be the "Hypogriffs! We already knew them and they life at the outskirts of Equestria! + we haven't even heard of the Kirins AFTER their episode! I would have loved to see them return. To add to that A.J. already made a friend there, this could also have her actually contributing to the plot, same goes for Flurretshy! I was really disapointed when I heard about the Hypogriffs...
This is only about the G4 movie- I haven't watched the G5 movie yet-
I personally like the G4 movie more than G5 movie easily. The Storm King is underrated even with the MLP community. He was responsible for most of the events that occurred in that movie despite not having much screentime.
May I suggest reading the MLP movie 2017 prequel comics if you haven't already? It provides more characterization for side characters in the G4 movie, including the Storm King.
Remember, Tempest joined the Storm King because she initially thought that he was going to restore her broken horn if she succeeds on capturing the Alicorn princesses and steal their magic to empower the Staff of Socanas. As much as I love Discord, I understand why he wasn't in the 2017 movie. He would've erased the stakes in the movie. I kinda wished Starlight was active but I kinda see why since the Mane 6 are the primary focus of the movie and the show in general.
Sure, most of the plot happens because of the Strom King, but personally, I like my villains to have more screentime for me to sufficiently care haha. The Storm King had a fun personality, so having more scenes with him would have been cool!
And while I'm sure the prequel comics are great, one shouldn't have to read supplemental material to fully enjoy a movie. The movie should be able to stand on its own.
From a storytelling perspective, I understand that Discord and Starlight can't be involved because they, ESPECIALLY Discord, would have solved the problem too quickly. But logically, Discord SHOULD have been there because by that point in the story, he loved Fluttershy more than anyone, so the idea of someone coming to harm her would have set him off. It made no in-universe sense for him to not show up with some big event such as this happening.
And Starlight is ALWAYS ready for a good fight/battle, so there was no reason for her not to be shown defending Canterlot. I argue that she's a main character with how much emphasis she got in the show and how she saved Equestria multiple times. So her not being involved is weird.
But again, logically, this movie was being made before Starlight existed in the show, so it make sense why she wasn't involved.
ARGH. So many of these issues would have been solved if they just released the movie after season 4 and not season 7 X'D
I haven't watched the G5 movie so I will do that now before I watch this video. See you in a bit!

While i do agree with a lot of your points, i personally like the G4 movie a lot more.
Yes the continuity errors are annoying, but i didnt even know it was supposed to take place after season 7 (i didnt even notice starlight because of the fact shes a background character) so i just assumed it was a bit after twilight became princess, even knowing now i personally can ignore the errors because for me even if its not canon this takes place before season 7 (yes i know thats kinda unfair but this is just how i can personally view it)
And honestly to me G5 felt weaker and more geared for kids
While yes MLP has always been for kids and I am probably biased, G5 kinda dumbs down the message i feel like
And yes G4 outright said the message at the end of the episode for a good while for me it works more than suddenly everyone agreeing to not fight and/or be afraid of each other loke the end of G5
And for me Izzy just feels like they're trying to recreat pinkie, and it feels wrong
They even give her a rap part in her song, which just doesn't work for me.
And the characters feel to bland, and they appear to flawless for me right now, and while yes this is just the pilot, its also a movie where theu could have fleshed out the characters more than they did, but only really did that with sprout, even if not to much.
For me the G4 movie just hits better, especially since what was added to the universe doesnt just go away in the series, it does come back.
And with G5 while yes there will be time to explain the fact everyone is separated and the fact theres only ponies currently, I just personally dont lole the decision to not explain why the 3 tribes are seperated in the movie, since that is the main point of the movie.
Yes this was mostly me pointing out the flaws in G5, and yes im probably biased, but they really should have just let G5 be its own thing instead of a years later of G4 because for a lot of people it just wont work.
Yes the G5 pilot has its parts where it shines, but for me I just cant enjoy it nearly as much as the G4 movie because it just seems so bland and it kinda ruins everything i watched in G4, completely ruining the amazing end of the show.
Again yes this is probably coming from a biased eye, but thats going to be inevitable with a lot of people who love and grew up with G4.
The G4 movie canonically takes place after season 7. It takes place between the season 7 finale and the season 8 opener. This is evidenced by the characters discussing the events of the movie in the season 8 opener, and the movie locations becoming available on the friendship map. Twilight also becomes inspired to open her school due to what she learned in the movie.
The movie was planned to come out after season 4, which would make Twilight's anxiety over being a princess make more sense, but for REASONS, they pushed it to be after season 7 which...only hurt the movie imo.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, I still think G5 is the better movie, BUT like you, I prefer the G4 movie. I'm biased towards G4. I care about the world and the characters more (and the songs and visuals). Plus, at present, G4 just feels more magical than G5.
Mlp fim is my childhood, next to super Mario world, and the lsp show. I watched it on loop on Netflix and got so excited whenever a new season came. I like the designs of g5 and that a male is a main character, which I thought rainbow and aj were as a lil kid. G4 introduced me to a whole world of fandom, and I still rp as a pony almost everyday in pony town. Also also I love your oc chefs kiss

I agree with everything here except the villan. I'm sorry but how is Tempest not the big bad of the G4 movie. She was the one showed off in the trailers, the one who had more screen time, the one who impacted the main six the most. Heck she had a whole book going more in depth with her backstory. The story king is just another part of Tempest story. How she finally had trust in someone and was betrayed again. So in my opinion, G4 wins for villans. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk
Tempest was certainly more important than the Storm King BUT the story framed the Storm King as the official big bad that we would be worrying about--he was the final bad that needed to be vanquished. It's like if in the Lion King if the story followed the hyenas and we only got a little bit of Scar. Scar is still the big bad and has his final fight with Simba, we just care a bit less because we've been following the hyenas around everywhere.
The Storm King in G4 was 10000% unnecessary, but since he was there, and considering his role, he counts as the big bad.
BUT if you don't see him as such, I respect that. I honestly wish he wasn't...THAT...but well, the G4 movie isn't perfect =P
I always thought G4’s movie wasn’t doing Twighlight right. She seemed angry and agitated when at this point she had learned the magic of friendship and didn’t have anything pushing her to become so angry. I don’t get it. It seemed really out of character. But that’s just me.
TO BE FAIR, the movie was initially supposed to take place after season 4, when Twilight was a bit less mature compared to after season 7...in which case the writers should have characterized her better. BUT THEN AGAIN when Twilight is stressed, she can be kind of a jerk and does stupid things...a bad characteristic that followed her even through season 9 (e.g. Twilight manipulating a situation to where Pinkie Pie gets eliminated from a game because she (Twilight) was losing).
So, it's somewhat believable.
I think my little pony G5 movie is much better then G4 yes G4 special are really good then G5 but still G5 is much more fun then G4 movie.
The reason why is because G4 have a villain but most of all just seeing new characters the stop the villain. G5 don’t have villain but instead bring back pony together and making new friend.

the stakes were really high there but for some reason the writers really like to play it safe because its mainly a kids show (even though faust intended to make fim for all audiences)
so yeah the villain could've been handled better here too (welp this turned into the villain paragraph too)

I totally wasnt expecting Sprout to be the villain. I thought the villain was going to be either Queen Haven or Sprout's mom. Sprout was entertaining, but I felt no danger at all with him lol

So helpful in growing as a person and in my faith too, I checked out your website and saw that Jesus is a huge part of your life too which is awesome!! I love how much MLP's lessons and stories of redemption and transformation like with Starlight mirror biblical themes and stuff. Seriously one of the best TV shows of all time haha.

To me, MLP: The Movie (2017), along with S7, feels a perfect series finale to the show. I just wished they had ended it with the movie (And S7) as the last two seasons (S8 [Barring The Washouts] & S9) and MLP: ANG really sucked.😑

Aloubell, have you seen the new g5 mini series on RUclips, mlp tell your tale? If so you should look into it. It gets alot of flack for its art style, but personally I like it. I like how the ponys are all different shapes and sizes. Even the background ponies all look unique. I love the g4 style. But alot of the characters have same body syndrome
