Did you notice this trailer a little wild ago? Looking like a project out of a video game, and with the premise I adore from short films, it seems somebody is finally making a dialogue-less environmental movie! With the protagonists as animals that work together in a humanless apocalypse, this looks to be all the vibes and feels of DreamWorks The Wild Robot, back when we didn't know anything. This is an international movie that has already been heaped in awards, and is gunning for the Oscars next year. As a latvian who has watched this movie 2 times (early release in home country) I can say that it was amazing, really emotional and of course it was stunning.

Yeah but to be fair the trailer should have made that clear, you can't really trust everyone to know the thing is based on a book.

The Wild Robot NEVER promised to be a silent film, nor was it meant to be. The animals talking and Roz learning to understand their language is a core part of the book it's based on. Complaining about it in the film is unwarranted. That said, yeah this film looks incredible.
then why did the first trailer made appear it as if they were gonna be silent you can't blame people for assuming that when that how they market it, so no i do think criticism is warranted, and this is coming from some one who saw the movie and loved it,

@@Some_Kid13 well yeah but you can't really trust the mainstream audience to know the movie is based on a book by default. The function of a trailer is to make things like that clear.

The Wild Robot is amazing and so will this be, we are getting spoiled this year.
I mean, to be fair; I think everyone had gotten tired of slop like Velma, then Wish (sorry Wish fans), and then Mega Mind 2, also all those live action remakes, and don't even get me started with the AI generated garbage! I think Movies like The Wild Robot is just an apology letter.

Serioiusly? You're already dissing the Wild Robot? I'm sure Flow is great but give TWR a break.... it's an amazing film and the dialog helps make it that way.

And if he did say anything about the movie having dialogue, he didn't say it made the movie worst. He said it will probably be a good movie. (this is from memory)

Blatantly overexaggerating this video for no reason but just to make dazz look bad. He said in the video that he does not want to make the movie seem bad. Makes sense, the entire movie is actually made in Blender and rendered in Eevee. So it does have a very video-gamey look to it, as it is made with software typically used for video games rather than motion pictures.
But it also makes sense logistically. This movie is a small project from Latvia. I've been to Latvia myself, its a close country to where I'm from and it is Small! Only a little over 2 million people live there and while quality of life there is decent, they do not have any kind of big national economy in this small Baltic state. They'd hardly have money for something to the level of American studios, or even whats done in other nearby countries like Denmark, Sweden, Poland, or Finland, or their slightly richer upstairs neighbour Estonia. So they gotta think outside the box, though the best solutions often come when you do just that.
I mean, he said it's latvian, but yeah, I don't understand why it's getting praise, there's ton of animation videos on youtube that look way better and more creative, it's like they desperately need some european animation to counter anime

Look bro Flow does look good but you need to understand is not only that the wild robot would have never been a silent film but also just because a movie has talking animals doesn’t mean it’s bad, so don’t put it as a flaw just be glad that that you still got what you wanted in the form of another movie.

Again, he said that he does not want to make the other movie look bad. It's safe to say the majority of people didn't read the book, ESPECIALLY considering most people prefer movies and shows over books. Not everything has to be 1:1 too. If he prefers it to be silent film I don't care that's his preference. You shouldn't care because that's his preference. You most likely didn't even read the book and you're just copying what everyone's saying.

As a Latvian it is nice to see people talking about this movie. I saw it in cinema and it was visually stunning and although I agree making 90 minute movie without dialogue isn't easy I think this movie pulled it off well.

Thanks for brining this up to my attention Dazz. Love the animation as well as artstyle choice within this movie so far. I also have the wild robot in my list of movies to catch as well this year myself.
Flow looks great but there's no need to punch down on another beautiful movie in order to praise Flow they are both movies representing a hopeful direction for the industry and hating on Wild Robot for something it never promised just kind of sucks

I actually learned of this film earlier this month thanks to a tweet. Namely the fact that the entire movie is made in Blender and rendered in Eevee! Stuff thats more commonly used for video games and that certainly explains some of the visual style. But logistically too it makes a ton of sense.
I've actually been to Latvia myself, I went there on vacation in the summer of 2023. Its a wonderful place, with beautiful towns and the capital city of Riga is a hidden gem of a European city! But it is also very small. The entire country only has a little over 2 million people living in it, and their economy isn't huge. So of course they cant afford to go the way of the big studios in bigger countries, and instead had to think outside the box. But that has really resulted in something beautiful.
Btw if you want some reccomendations for international pictures to look out for, then as a Danish guy myself, I think the Checkered Ninja movies, 1 & 2 could be interesting for you. Especially as a third one is in the works. They're also all dubbed into English already, with an all Irish cast actually. I'm sure it'd be something worth talking about, whether its for the good, the bad, or the absurd in these movies that would never fly with an American production. Just... keep in mind one thing. Their english dub is distributed by the same distributor that Saberspark has beef with. The one that nearly took down his channel over a Ronal the Barbarian review (Oh yeah theres that film too lol.)

I watched Flow without knowing anything about it and it was amazing, more emotional than I thought and didnt exactly end on a fairytale high note either. highly recommend it
