Thank you for this video! I keep Pseudomugil luminatus at the moment, planning to get praecox rainbows in another aquarium and the madagascar rainbow in a third... 😅 It feels like somehow it gets to rainbows everywhere here, and I don't feel a big need for anything else, because I love these fish. I'm hoping that one day my luminatus will spawn, they haven't yet, but I have now given them some mops, rised the temperature a bit and I do give them frozen food. A few days ago I also got live food from a friend of mine, that will be ready for them the next week or so. After watching this video, I think I might combine that with giving them a water change as well...

Thank you for sharing this great talk, Bentley! An - at the time for me unexpected - issue with Boesemanies (2 x male, 2 x female, 100 cm/300 l tank) is aggression of the dominant vs. the other male in the morning, breeding hours. As I am still reluctant to just increase the group size due to the size of my tank and the other fish in there, I had to solve this with providing enough hiding spaces for the non-dominant male, which more or less works. Luckily, from about noon time on, all Boesmanies are friends again so that also the non-dominant male then can join the group for the rest of the day. Why I mention this: probably also a topic to add to your talk, how to avoid or deal with this aggression, particularly for those who are about to buy rainbow fish the first time and do not have this experience yet. Otherwise, fully agree: I love these fish!😀 They are beautiful, so nice and active in their behaviour and otherwise so friendly with the other tank-mates (my Boesemanies eat duck wheat as well!)
Nerve damage is one thing I've seen mentioned the other I've seen is stroke and a trapped nerve suggested for the same pathology. Either way i assume neurological but fish pigmentation is strange, viruses can effect pigmentation.
Off topic a bit but have you done a video on the best books for identifying plant nutrient issues in aquariums? I've been trying to find something to really understand more about the various nutrients common aquarium plants need, causes of issues (with lots of pictures) and fixes for common problems. Love the various content you produce, as it's really helped me in my planted aquarium journey! Cheers from Eastern WA.
I have not, in general my favorite plant book is Christel Kasselmann's Aquarium Plants aka the plant Bible to me.
Everything I know about Rainbowfish I know from you. And I use that knowledge at work (sometimes)

I’m just setting up at 75 gallon rainbow fish . I have gastromyzon below . What is the best temperature for rainbows and how do they feel about faster flow ? I read some like it , Gary lang doesn’t have much flow in his.
I don't go super heavy, but I've found Chilatherina like a little extra flow to play in. Necessary? No. Nice to have? Yes. I like keeping my rainbows in the 74-76 fahrenheit temp range.
Thats odd, i heard that mycos are a common part of the aquarium microbiome, which doesn't make sense if it is an instakill for any rainbow in any tank it has been in. As far as ive found it is only a problem when either a fish with an established infection is added or the tank is otherwise overpopulated with the mycobacterium. While it is just about immune to meds it is really easily outcompeted by other bacteria in the microbiome due to its slow growth, which is why people trying to cure with antibiotics only eliminate all of the competition thus making the infection more likely to take over the tank. This may contribute to the idea that it is an instant death sentence for the whole tank. The general way of curing it is uv sterilization which eliminates any microbes in the water column equally, without hurting the microbiome everywhere else in the tank so that it can keep the mycos there in check.
I think a lot of this info comes from walstad, but i learned of all of this a year ago during a myco scare so take it with a grain of salt
But as far as i know, if a fish is having sores already than its very often terminal no matter what.
Also i heard that it can survive bleaching
