I remember seeing this performance on telly in my teens and being struck by 3 things; Firstly, that John Maher was not only a fantastic drummer but possibly the coolest man on the planet. Secondly what a unique stage presence and voice Pete Shelley had (who bizarrely I always thought looked like a slightly camp version of Peter Gabriel here). But mainly I was just struck but what a great band they were, with every song they play here being an absolute corker. This is the first time I've seen this since then, so thanks for posting!

Ah, how fine it was! Saw them once in this era, 1979-1980, again in 1991 when the Greatest Hits CD came out, and a year later for "Trade Test Transmissions." Equal parts Mersey Beat and white noise is how I described them, then. Shelly's XL-1 solo album fits in nicely too. I was delighted when my daughter enjoyed"Telephone Operator".
