Due to the success of the series, we have decided to make this a weekly format. This is not escaping the trench, it's not going to be a grind for ego purposes. This will simply be applying 9k techniques in each of the respective positions to make people aware of the skills and techniques you can use in your own lower mmr games. This is strictly for educational purposes.

Holy shit. I will need to watch this 5-6 times and write everything down.
    Things I didnt understand:
14:30 - forcing FV timewalk before tower comes up?? What is it with the tower?
15:20 - he doesn't want to rotate = he doesn't care because of the hero Mars, or because he is 9k and doesn't want to invest his time into 2k pleb?
4 fundamentals to always think about
    1) You need to be able to *clear waves* quickly (→ battlefury AM)
    2) You gotta be *survivable* (can 1v1) (→ manta AM)
    3) You need *killing* item (→ basher/abyssal AM) → force enemy rotations/get free objectives (towers, roshan)
    4) You need *highground* items (assault cuirass, satanic, ..)
    *BSJ is being funny*
    Laning
    - he has nearly perfect LHs (he doesn't miss randomly = he played the hero so many times he is used to its attack animations)
    - he uses his spells either to deny voids creeps or to secure last hit + harrass the enemy
    - the goal is to get enemy safelane T1 ASAP => lane sustain items → boot the enemy out of lane → get the tower (vlads - good sustain + ↑ATK of jugg in mid to late)
    - quick hint - buy faerie fire (or idk how is it spelled) against Witch Doctor to sustain maledict damage (you can notice later in the game Immortal BSJ using neutral item Greater Faerie Fire to sustain the maledict because no one in our bracket gives a flying fuck about maledict after 15 minutes in the game)
    - draws aggro frequently → secures ranged creep with W
    - he wants the creeps to be under his tower under one of two conditions:
    1) He doesn't have a ulti (below lvl 6)
    2) He doesn't have the ulti (cd on Arena)
    - you can cut the creep wave to "reset" the lane - take the wave near T1 and wave for your creep wave (void gets free wave under tower but after that he is gonna be contested far from tower)
    - if you are pos 4, or pos 5 it is generally very good idea to let your core get solo XP (things you can do instead: block small camp so they cannot pull/help midlane by securing rune, by poking the other mid etc/go on enemy support and try to hunt him if you get him low/snipe their couriers)
-it is 5 minutes in the game → catapults spawn - catapults are mini-objectives to play around because they deal massive damage to enemy towers - when you are trying to push the lane with catapult you will have to deal with the enemy's catapult first → your creeps will be delayed (by killing cata) and therefore there is going to be double wave created → ↑pushing power
    - If you don't kill enemy core it doesn't necesarily mean bad thing - they will either have to heal somehow which costs money (moneywise, it is cheaper to regen mana than to regen HP!!!)
    - first item is to clear waves - Vlads - it gives you HP sustain (lifesteal from W of Mars gives you HP from every creep you hit with it) and mana sustain (2 mana per second aura)
    - Void gets lvl 6 = big power spike in his ultimate but Void isn't really killer hero just yet therefore you need to watch for rotations (from my experience if you just KNOW that there is a thing called powerspike in Dota you can make your game very easily in 2k bracket, 99% of players don't care about that) (again, think of cats and mice)
    - Mars has 90 sec cooldown which isn't that long, there are way worse cooldowns - don't be afraid to ever use your spells! (Magnuses, Enigmas, Voids, Lunas, .....)
    - after being elusive towards void (pulling big camp) he runs back full HP, full mana to the lane and again starts to "loosen up" Voids HP → Void has about 50% HP→ Arena-spear = kill (kill is good, because 1) You can pressure the tower 2) You get money 3) Kill on Void means he can't farm while dead)
-BSJ didn't mention it, maybe because he has an internal clock and feel, but he went to lane and kill Void when catapults showed up after min 10 = pressure on the tower is huge
    - he doesn't have ulti and FV does → cat and mouse = pulls again → didn't make it + there was enemy support = go away from the lane for a while and wait until it is under my tower
    - BSJ decides to go on Sven - but why Sven??? - 1) Void is really behind and will struggle anyway 2) Sven can farm fast so killing him means you really lower his farming speed
    - I would say that this is phase in which midgame starts
    Midgame
    - try to shut down farming carries (Void, Sven) because you are strong; how to be aggresive 101 = go in their jungle and use your shit, just like that
    - returns to top, because CREEPS = GOLD = ITEMS = POWERSPIKES = KILLS which can be then converted to push
    - another elusive move, because he doesn't have arena, but Void has Chrono - go behind their tower and cut the creep wave towards river → you can go mid, or stay → BSJ goes mid = he can pressure mid tower (higher map value than top) + he takes DD rune (POWERSPIKE) + he has Arena (POWERSPIKE)
    - when you make move when you are powerful, you can dive - you should immediately retreat if you: 1) lose the powerspike (you have used the ultimate) 2) See more people TP in (Towers have aura that buff allied heroes around them therefore it is not good to fight them (not to mention dmg from towers))
    - he retreats but already knows where he goes, because he wants to kill CREEPS = ge goes top → he can pressure Tower because no one is on lane + someone has used TP to mid, so at least one hero cannot TP in to save the T1
    - he solo-kills support = he gets money, support will be dead = you can force 4v5 fight, because there are still more ultis in game
    - goes back to top, to man-up to the Sven (Sven cannot kill him solo, because he doesn't have items)
    - he is survivable to man-up 1v1 thanks to Vlads, therefore he goes for solo kill items = Blink, Deso
    - notice that he ships a lot of clarities, because Mars has mana issues
    - Again, Mars has ulti = you gotta aggresive and shut down farming enemies = BSJ goes straight into farming Sven → Sven thinks he can kill Mars, but Mars is naturally durable → BSJ kites Mars towards Jugg and they use 2v1 situation to kill Sven (again, it is NOT NEEEDED to KILL sven but to make him feel UNCOMFORTABLE on HIS part of MAP)
    - notice that he watches items on other heroes (enemy and allied) (I have good experience with this. I have played a good amount of Legion Commander. Many players think that Linkens Sphere is the counter against Duel but when I learnt to always check enemy items I noticed them building linkens → I will go for Linkens-cancelling items. Ez game, when you spent 2k on Force Staff vs Core who spends 5.5k on bullshit item)
    - pushes out wave towards enemy bot T2 → TPs away to top = kills CREEPS, pushes wave → goes jungle (farms hard)
    - it is around 20 minutes in game, enemy casters have usually high level so they can kill you = you might need to buy BKB, because of that
    - BSJ is strong, because he has been farming a lot → wants to jump heroes around mid (his team is 2k-slow-paced therefore he got almost killed) → they take good teamfight, because having Deso on Mars feels actually pretty OP → they win TF → pushes and kills creeps
    - you can go to base to regen any time of game (I struggle with that while laning because I usually ship out regen with courier and try to soak XP from the lane while having 20% HP) → try to kill some creep camps while on the way
*WIP, ended at **30:00**, ty for your support*

not to take away from bsj cuz this is really good content i'm grateful for, but henry did a whole series like this twice in a row where he explained his thought process in excruciating detail.. i'll admit henry does tend to get a bit full of himself at times and his peak mmr isn't as high as bsj, but the hate he gets is disproportionate to those flaws.

What more henry that not only play arrogantly but also talk shit the most. The hate he gets is mostly about his attitude and if he continue on his attitude that i have seen a lot such as that puck game where he mentions "i deserve higher mmr and those here in my bracket are shit" where he is stuck at 500ish immortal and cant rise while pro player smurf accounts can reach top 100 fast is a good telling of his own skills. Even the fucking toxic E.E is in the upper ranks of dota despite his shity attitude because his skills suite his bracket. My biggest problem with playing in the trench is that a lot of things in dota don't pay off immediately, and when I know I'm not great, and the games are inconsistent, it makes it hard to realize in the moment whether what I'm doing is wrong or right. Even worse when you have a team goading you to do something else. Just makes it hard to learn/internalize new concepts. I definitely like this video, gives me more confidence in just doing what seems correct regardless of whatever else is going on. My worst enemy in any match is definitely myself.

    • @HB-gs2lt

I've found this to be one of the most difficult challenges when trying to improve. As a game with high variance, having the confidence to do what it's "right" can be difficult. If you are playing GREAT (compared to your rank) you'll still lose 4 out of 10 games, but you'll steadily climb. Keep doing what it's right!

Grow example if you’re pulling the lane and you’re solo, because you’re pos 4 is not there, what should the safe lane do. Or if you’re cutting the waves or sth.
Would be really helpful to know and learn.

As a 2k witch doctor spammer, the enemy WD performance burns my eyes. He pulled, and thats nice, and he casts his spells, nice too. Even was aware his void could survive 1v1 against a mars, so being absent from lane a lot was okay so void could get a level advantage.
But at no point did he take advantage of being a 600 range character and simply right click the enemy. BSJ was allowed to control the lane because WD simply wasnt landing free right clicks. BSJ even demonstrates all the times he can land free right clicks, and wins the lane because of it.

Makes sense but to be a true 2k tutorial game while keeping only to creep clearing as the main factor, one has to (1) have poor mechanics in lane, (2) make poor team fight choices, and (3) not jungle between creep clearing (as most 2k players won't be using consumables to keep their mana up). Otherwise, it's hard to convincingly say it was the creep clearing that did it or all the other higher mmr techniques.

The video is really informative and I think most people get your point and it does seem all logical and easy.
On the other side you are still a mechanical superior player to them all, so naturally you will activate bkb and dodge some spells when other poeple actually wouldnt.
Last fight mid t3, you pinned mars so quick I had to rewatch the scene, and dodged the chrono kind of. Before sven could bkb. ofc the whole video worked towards this point of going Highground and thus you should be probably ahead and still win the fight, but not everyone has that quick movement and dicision making.

It doesnt matter what rating you're playing either be it 1-4k or 5-8k. As higher mmr you get the better players you'll meet and if you dont improve yourself you'll fall mmr. Don't expect people in 2k will have the reactions in 4-5k and higher. If you're enough good you'll climb over time. This is like: I havent played football, but if i go and play with some kids or teens i will be better than. And you ask why? Think about it? I will have better physics than then, i will be faster, my decisions will be better, i can outplay and so on. Don't expect when a pro players or high mmr player 7k+ when he got into 2-4k he won't own the games. Its simply because his understanding of the game is better than yours. His item timings are the same (same with the physics in football), he'll do faster some things you don't (like i'm faster than them) and so on. People in lower bracket punish less mistakes and come backs can happen all the time. Its up to you what you want to improve. Your mmr or how you play? You can always get a booster and get you out of your rank, but if you're not skilled enough you'll lose and become toxic again towards your mates. Remember not every game you will have that perfect farm or perfect support. You'll need to find the farm and the decision making yourself. And BSJ didn't flamed when hes mate picked luna as 4 like most of you would.

Split pushing taking the objectives etc. Just that last part of closing out the game had escaped my reach and it lost me so many games...Do you have any quick tips on how to close out a game with a composition that does not have a lot of natural sieging / pushing mechanisms against a defensive comp that just won't get out of the base without buyback?

    • @wscheets1600
      @wscheets1600 4 года назад +2

Split the lanes. Top and mid or bot and mid. Push it into the high ground. Make the enemy split up their forces. Top and bottom is risky unless you have like NP or other really mobile heros like AM or QoP etc.
And then back up to the jungle. Hit creeps wait for another wave to come. Clear it. Maybe team steps out of base cause they don't see you showing. And then you strike.
You could also smoke in view of the enemy and have 1 person not in smoke with boots of travel and survivability, show in top. And then you guys wait and til you get some information. And if its clear and no backdoor protection up. Go hit the tower a couple times and back up.
Generally, what im saying is, don't just say "highground!" And then go all or nothing on it.
Unless you against treant, towers have 0 regen. So any right clicks on them, is good. Hitting a tower 2 times and backing up is fine.
Meteor hammer is another good item especially on invis hero. If you sentry out of tower range to make sure your not visible. You can channel it on the towers and slow seige it nicely. Once the tower is dead. Work on ranged racks slowly as it doesnt regen. Once you get all 3 towers and all 3 ranged racks. If you still don't feel strong enough to full on fight in their base, you need to just keep trying to figure out which heroes are preventing you from doing it specifically. And if you can get them to be on same area, that's when you send it in.
Dispell items like lotus orb help alot. Because you can lotus and run up hit a couple times and then back before it expires. Keeping you from being targeted by their spells.
Slowly but surely seige it down.
If none of this can work for you. Then just don't let them leave base, take all the farm on their side of map. And just get everyone moonshards and 6 slotted and buyback. And then just full send a single objective. And get out or completely die and buyback if needed. Then repeat that process everytime everyone had buyback up. Eventually you will take down the tower.
Rapier is another solution, turns anyone into a tower hitter. Get a rapier and an aegis on the most survivable hero on team and play smart.

The best advice that I can give whoever read this comment is DotA 2 isn't just about fighting and winning. It's a game of constantly asking yourself. If you ask yourself more than your enemies do, you'll win a game of DotA 2 for sure. Since the hero drafting phase to the end of the game, you need to constantly ask yourself "can I kill him with these skills? Do I need my teammate to help me? Should I pull NC? I am too safe farming here, is it bad? Where are the enemy heroes? What should I build to counter him? Should I push the lane? Should I jump in to start the fight? What are the enemy heroes doing? Do they smoke up to gank someone? Should we get Rosh? Should I go bkb bcuz I already got Manta? Do I need survivability items or snow balling items? Can I survive with these items or delay the fight long enough till my mates arrive?"
If you ask yourself more, you'll get more answers on how to play your game. The problem with low rank players is they don't play dota, they play street fighter. No plan, no strategy, no nothing. That's why even their fight is messed up. The best teacher is your mistake, I always look at my replay of the bad match I had and see why I died the way I'm not even supposed to, and see what bad decision I made and change the gameplay.

  • @nutellabrah6718
    @nutellabrah6718 3 года назад

Nice try. Youre not the first to claim you could tame the chaos of lower rank matchmaking. Its a load of garbage because first of all you're doing isolated tests while most people who are complaining have hundreds of games "loaded" into their matchmaking. So if you wanted to prove it, you'd have go to the lowest ranks and actually climb up as an average of hundreds of games, not just have a perfect scenario on a perfect smurf. The people complaining don't have a perfect behavior score, they have pre-determined wins and losses with an enemy rival and a mix and match of bad to really bad players (who got the worst feeder loses by feeding the other rival who's supposed to be your equal) and people have mixed skill with a much higher dynamic variety as opposed to middle tier consistency. The weirdest thing is you find really good players at low ranks who might be there because they are some how off but still have the skill of a smurf, and you might have a really bad player on your team that feeds them and they snowball. So yeah, good luck "pushing lanes." And it doesn't take them walking down mid as 4 to throw. All it takes is one play at the end where they throw because the better you do the more weird your teammates get. Youre being pushed to 50/50 win rate so the better you do the better your rivals are and the worse your teammates get to push you back to 50/50. But I guess you haven't thought of all that. Pro tip: pro games are easier than smurfing because everyone is stable and predictable. Also the only way to escape the trench is to master the whole game including smurfing. You can't get out of 1k with 3K skills. You need 6K skills to get out of 1K. So when you give someone this advice, try to be more realistic, its not just pushing lanes or solo kills. its about fighting the whole system. the patterns. people management. developing likability. How to get crazy people to be chill with you. How to assess and respond to weaknesses and strengths. How to game the 50/50 system, how to protect your behavior score. All these elements is what makes a difference. The actual game of Dota and farming patterns is the easiest part.

Missing abilities on purpose so the game doesn't mark you as a smurf. Well played, sir!

I agree with the haters on this one. The pro players who make videos say that if you are a sub 2k player, no one will buy wards or dust. I am sub 2k the skill level has increased quite a bit. Doesn't mean BSJ is bad. But he hasn't played in this bracket for quite a while. Maybe he smurfs in his stream but that's not fair judgement. Because when someone is losing hard, they don't perform to their best.

18:34 you can make those late pulls as the creeps walk very far and if you just walked into the trees to meet the upper part of creep wave it aggros 100% of the time. They will see the neutral creeps hit u while in the trees.

What about offlaners that can't kill enemy players as efficiently as Mars? Like Tidehunter, Centaur, probably Doom? Do you build offensive items on them like deso/whatever?
I feel like the enemy will know you can't kill them and will not leave the lane as easily.

Not sure what MMR this is, but in my games there's a 40% chance that the hc and mid would both be saying "gg lost draft" the moment Luna was picked. They would both go about 3-12 and chat about how we never had a chance anyway.

I love how BSJ is literally the difference. Without him calmly going ape shit, I think they lose this game. They'd have less kills, the other cores wouldn't have died 6/7 times, towers wouldn't have been pushed, etc.

BSJ, please don't listen to all the ignorant comments that say "Wah wah you are smurfing so you must be a bad person, you are ruining games and killing Dota" because for me, this is great content and I really appreciate you taking your time to make this. More power!

I tried what you told, i played sd and pushed both lanes and it really dragged the game. But my bara was just runnin into horde of enemies on cooldown and carry keep dying from morfling shotgun, despite i plased good wards that couldn't be easy dewarded, i saw morf on map and avoided him.
We lost but pushing really works.

funny thing is he absolutely could have lost this game. he was outleveled by void at the 6 minuate mark 4-5. thankfully his other lanes were winning but if it was 0 -7 in kill score for the other team he very well could have lost. add in a potential smurf in the other team and its notlike this game was a slam dunk u wuld expect with a 9k offlaner playing against a 2k void

    1 playing frontlaner hero.
2 constantly miss the big teamfights
3 tp to take safe farm leaving jugg alone
4 as a result jugger have to perform frontlaner role while mars stealing carry role and jugg dies 4 times
Conclusion = we won even though jugg fed.

NA player here, yea these are things you really dont ever learn playing in NA pubs lol, something like this should be a thing in the NA servers. Few people take advantage of moving heroes around the map like this. Learning quite a bit from you and EU scene
