I think a famous influencer might do it, like someone within the ballpark of pewdiepie, or some of the other big channels. I don't know if tik tok monetizes but there are OF thots that make obscene (pun intended) amounts of money. Although Amanda I think points out that their "likes" aren't something in the realm of a high end "influencer".

It feels like they just want to turn every killer into Jason. Every killer should have their "thing". Jason is a tank who just walks through anything you throw at him. Freddy is an ambush hunter who finds you at your most vulnerable. Pinhead is an eldritch demon you have to bring deliberately. Michael is a stalking predator who will go after you just because you're in his path. Leatherface is a tragically malformed, mentally stunted human driven to be a killer by his family.
When you make them all supernatural tanks, it puts them all in the same niche.
I'm glad someone else noticed this. The filmmakers have no idea what made the originals iconic and it makes these new movies so interchangeable and pointless.

Well, those are the really popular ones. There are loads of supernatural-ish slashers in 'human' form. Those guys(franchises) are like, over 40 years old now. My favourites are that thing from Jeepers Creepers, Chucky, Candyman and those dolls from Puppet Master.
THIS. You said everything I feel. My distaste for Halloween Kills comes from this. I didn't want to see a Jason movie, I wanted to see a Halloween movie, but well, I guess Michael Myers is the literal incarnation of evil now (I see how you went away from the supernatural aspects of the sequels that you ignored producers, as you said you would).

That is so true. In the original movie, Leatherface doesn't WANT to kill all those kids who keep showing up at his house, he does it out of survival to protect the privacy of his (abusive) family who resorted to cannibalism after they lost their jobs at a meat-packing plant. The scene where he's sitting by the window facepalming 'cuz he knows he's gonna get in trouble for letting strangers trespass says it all.
I just hated how Leatherface didn't act like Leatherface at all. He's not a slow methodical killer like Meyers, he's a giant man-child that throws tantrums and grunts and relies on his brute strength. The movie was bad but the assassination of his character was by far the most brutal death in the movie.
The creators & writers are all this tiresome sequels , & prequels and reboots seem to always fail.
She made fun of a guy wearing a gun in a town where a serial killer was never caught. I would be sticking to him like white on rice.
Also, they’re in Texas, where it’s very common and normal for people to be walking around with guns on them… what did she expect?
I mean, a serial killer was never caught in that town. Like Amanda said, why would you ever assume a gun was a good option? Were those guns just recently brought into that small Texas town? Seems like something they'd have during the original or during the interim period. Like, did the statute of limitations expire. Except, it's in Texas, and there is no statute of limitations for murder in texas.

That could of at least be a nice addition onto Sally, a woman who became a Texas Ranger and could probably get guns that could rip Leatherface and his home apart but is scared to go back due to his threatening appearance, even if she was looking at him through a sniper scope.
It honestly makes ZERO sense in the new Halloween movies. Laurie Strode spent 40 years staying in the same town she was traumatized in just on the hope that one day Meyers might break free so she could Home Alone him.
And not just her but EVERYBODY who ever grew up in Haddonfield still lives there 40 years later. 40 years after a single night of random violence that left 5 people dead and the perpetrator caught and incarcerated for 4 decades.
The ENTIRE town, but Laurie especially, still feel tormented somehow by a mute locked away in a prison the past 40 years?! It was one night, yet they all behave as if they’ve lived through all of the sequels that no longer count.

The "killer comes back in the end" twist was so predictable and yet it was still somehow shocking just because it was absolutely bonkers. The one girl screaming bloody murder as the car sloooowly drives away lol
Leatherface straight up Shamu'ing his ass out of the water at the end was fucking hilarious.
I was in tears laughing at that moment. It helped that melody was insufferable.
it was shocking to me only because of how explicit they were making it that Leatherface was not only dead but straight up overkilled. Shot with buckshot to the center mass four times, chainsawed to the face, and lungs absolutely completely filled with water.
The shock was in how that shows the movie hated its audience just as much as it hated its characters, because that was definitely shot specifically to piss me off. Like, I know the trope, the killer is supposed to get one last kill in and be around for the sequels. But this was especially dumb. It's cool when Jason does it, but Leatherface is just Some Guy.
They subverted expectations by not making him grab one of them by the ankle while they casually stood next to that random ass crater he fell into for like 20 minutes instead of booking it.

FYI, a local nurse was killed in her patient's front yard by feral hogs. They're seriously a problem in rural Texas. I'm more near Houston than whatever the hell this town is supposed to be. So yeah, between the hogs and the gators, a gun nearby isn't a bad idea.

The issue with today’s sequels/reboots/requels is that studios oftentimes have contracts for film rights for so long and if they don’t regularly push out a movie related to the IP, they lose the rights to it. This movie felt like that. That the studio realized its timeline was running out and it wanted to ride the hype of Halloween and Scream but was clearly rushed and poorly executed.
There’s another side to that though: when the IP rights become up for sale and the new buyer wants to start up their own new trilogy of films.
That’s actually what this was. You can usually tell when an IP has moved to a new owner when there is a new reboot/requel/remake/next generation or sequel that ignores other sequels suddenly announced.
It Can't really ride the hype of Scream. The movie came out weeks ago. Halloween yes, even with their version ofLaurie vs Michael
At this point I'm ready to say it... Making a sequel/remake/reboot/prequel/spinoff/franchise should be punishable by death. I don't care if some sequels are good or even better than the original, I'm so sick of Hollywood studios with billions of dollars refusing to invest anything into new ideas. I don't think I've seen a high budget movie from a big studio since my ex convinced me to watch The Force Awakens in theaters, I can't bring myself to care. It's sad that the movies sometimes made for over 500x less than what major studios make offer better writing and even acting. It doesn't cost much to write a good script, all you need is food, shelter, maybe a laptop and time. No excuses.
In this case, Lionsgate and Millenium Films lost the rights after Leatherface (2017). This new one was produced by Legendary Pictures.
There's something about the way Amanda is handling her microphone that gives the impression of a reporter trying to describe what's going on in a hurricane... which seems fitting, really
That old woman was supposed to be the heroine 'cause she was Leatherface's only survivor, but still they thought it'd be better if she appeared to die in a terrible way. Justice for truck-gun guy who was a really nice guy and hot as hell. He deserved better!
I think instead of bringing back Sally, they should have just had some fun and brought back Stretch. They had some very interesting history 🤣

I wanted to see her, truck guy and the younger sister team up and actually kill him to subvert the "final girl" trope and have an actual group surviving, or even let her be only survival but after they all at least had a better chance at fighting and giving us a chance to actually care about them
He was the best character in the whole movie I was messed up when leatherface got him.
The only scene I "liked" was the sunflower scene, but it also deeply disappointed me. It was the only part of the film that I felt it utilized the arid Texas Gothic aesthetic, and the character actually acted in ways that were reasonable (playing dead etc.) But there should have been a REAL chase scene! Have the blonde girl run through the dried up sunflowers, have us root for her and think she might just make it, have her get to the edge and see the gas station and then letherface yanks her back. Like I said, they had everything there to have a genuinely cool scene but nah. They just have her get choked out in the passenger seat. Wasted potential.
I was disappointed and surprised when I found out the trailer edit of the sunflower shot was better than in the actual movie. In the trailer, it seemed like a great reveal of a killer before he starts chasing his victim, but in the movie it seemed pointless, just a way to end the scene.
Only scene i like was when one of the character's moved the mirror to try and warn the Texan guy , of Leahter face hiding behind the door . Not that it made much difference .. as he got brutally killed still .

It would be more understandable if they didn't cause old lady to die after calling cops to evict her from house she rightfully owns.
I truly wonder if the team that film this movie actually saw the others. That final advice from Sally didn't make sense at all, girl he won't hunt her, he didn't hunt you after you escaped! His victims come to him, always entering on his lair, tress passing if you will.
Sally lived decades without him going after her, this isn't Michael Myers and she wasn't Laurie Strode, he didn't even tried to kill her after she cameback and put herself right in front him, the only reason she died is because she shot him, what a dumbass move!! YOU DON'T KILL THE FINAL GIRL OF A FRANCHISE!!!

I find it absolutely hilarious that they didn’t even bother giving Dante’s girlfriend a name because her entire role in the movie is to die.
But yeah, this movie was a whole bunch of nothing. I don’t think I’ve ever yelled so loud at a movie as I was when Lila was closing the distance in that warehouse. Plus Sally was a complete idiot. Shoot the crazed killer with the chainsaw, not waste time trying to get him to remember you
I also found it hilarious immediately when the subtitles only refered to her as "Dante's Fiancée."

When she picked up the cowboy hat I screamed so high it was subvocal. That was the last straw for me and this shitty movie. You do NOT get to pass the mantle of final girl to someone new. And also Leatherface would have to be at least 70. Sure is spry in his old age.
It really just looks like Netflix saw the success Halloween 2018 and thought, "We can do that. But smarter!"
And proceeded to do neither of the those things.

Favorite moment has to be on the bus when everyone pulls out their phones to record and that one guy says, “if you do anything you’re cancelled” or something along those lines. Like he thought that would actually make the killer walk away and leave them alone.
I literally cringed into a ball and almost turned off the movie at that point. Glad I didn't though cause the bus slaughter was the best part.

Yeah I had a great time watching this disaster. Honestly, you could have replaced the, shall we say, delicate education event, with a car crash where a bunch of her friends died but she was left alive and you could get the same themes of survivor's guilt with that character.
Also despite the fact that Sally was super underutilized, I'm very on board with kick ass horror movie heroines being 45+ years old now.
Seriously that school shooter flashback scene was so unnecessary and in poor taste

I was wondering about that and that woman's advice at the end. I was thinking if it was some low key way of making a statement on school shootings, in that the kids should stand up and fight back against the shooters. It's entirely idiotic, but the vibes that the movie is giving me is that it would be dumb enough to try to make that statement, but not dumb enough to blatantly make it.
This movie lets you know in the first 3 minutes "Oh, this is gonna be terrible!"

The thing that really stuck out about the Texas Chainsaw 3D one is that they really screwed up the math, because it was set in present day. Meaning Alexandra Daddario's character would've been much older over than she was in the movie, which is college aged(since she is supposed to be a baby from the seventies when the family was taken care of after all the murders).
Yeah I'm going to guess the creators did that at the last minute changing the date to present time. Then they thought movie watchers would just ignore the timeline snafu. Or they just didn't care basically.

I've never actually watched any of these movies. I saw a clip recently of the original with the final girl running to the truck. Then I realized the boyfriend I had during 07 may have been a little weirder than I thought. He was always trying to find me the perfect outfit of white flaired hip hugger pants and a purple tank that looked just right. Could never find the right pants. He said he liked the way women looked in white flaired hip hugger pants and purple was just his favorite color. It's also exactly what that original final girl was wearing. Glad I noped out of that relationship pretty quickly for other reasons.

Fridge horror is my favorite horror trope, but here in real life its making my skin crawl. I mean there's red flags and then there's obsessing over the final girl from TCM to the point of desperately trying to dress up your girlfriend like her.
This is a “I’ll watch when I need to pull a movie out of my butthole for a family horror movie night” kind of film. Probably after I watch the second and third fear streets

For me this movie was a boomer's representation of what millennials are in their eyes. The characters are so "edgy" and annoying, like a blown up and exaggerated version of us and it annoyed me. It really felt like the people that made the movie hates young people and wants to show how ridicule they are in their eyes
The set-up for the ending with the Tesla auto-drive and the opening of the sun roof for no reason. I can't get over how awful that is .

Someone else said this before in another person's review of this movie, this movie's biggest issue is that it doesn't know what it wants to be, there are parts where it seems like it's trying to be a worthy follow-up to the original, but other times it feels more concerned with being a satire of modern America and internet culture.
I am on board pretty much 100% with your analysis. The one thing though that I can't help but dwell on is how upsetting I found that last scene to be. Having the sister decapitated 12 seconds before the end was just...ugh. It was so mean and hateful and senseless. And I can't get it out of my head. I don't know if that's a point for or against the film. I mean they went there, god bless, but it was so against what I wanted.
(Also, why the hell is every slasher villain an immortal superhuman? Can we finally stop with that crap?)
Strongly seconding this! I haven't even seen the movie, only Amanda's review of it, but when she described how it ended my entire brain just rebelled at the very idea of it. And I don't know if that's because it's a bullshit ending, or if it's just that I'm not cut out for horror movies. I think it's a bit true that I'm not cut out for horror movies. I will often end up railing against grim horror movie endings, even when I can rationally acknowledge that they were narratively fitting. But in this case, I get the impression the narrative was a complete bait and switch. Like, they actively set up this survivor-stands-her-ground arc (which sounds like it was extremely badly executed, but still), and then at the last moment as the final piece of the picture is settling into place, they massacre (heh) the entire arc. Oh, you thought we were saying something here? You thought there was some kind of meaning here? Nope, no meaning! Pure sadistic, meaningless slaughter!
From what I can tell, the ending doesn't feel like it fits the movie. Which hypothetically _could_ be it's own kind of thematic point, _if_ the writing were better. But I don't get the impression the writing came within a hundred miles of where it would've needed to be for that to work.
@@mayhit I agree. The problem with this movie is TCM is a nihilist narrative. Nobody's coming to help. There may be cops but they are ineffective (RIP Sally) or may be just as crooked as the maniacs. The bus massacre is a tour-de-force and exactly what it says on the tin - but I don't care about those people beyond "ow that looks painful..." And I'm not rooting for Leatherface _as we should not be._ The original was terrifying _without_ showing actual gore just based on the tone. This reboot somehow wants the audience to cheer the kills and chuckle at the social commentary and that's directly wrong. And the ending - probably one of the most gruesome and disturbing kills - it's actually a masterpiece effect shot how it doesn't cut away and it's _so_ matter of fact with no horror movie frosting: You liked this character and are glad she made it? Watch them saw her head off - end credits. It's almost French extremism which has a lot in common with the original TCM. As much as I hate the ending, it would have made more sense tone-wise if _Lila_ were the one pulled out of the car at the end. Melody racked up the most final-girl points and it's actually makes more nihilistic sense if Leatherface takes her sister from her (who by movie logic *should be* guaranteed plot armor via the flashbacks and parallels Leatherface losing his loved one) instead.
Yeah, I didn't watch the movie, but what she's showing of the ending in the review is horrifyfing and made my skin crawl. Like getting her head sawed off while screaming and her sister watching and screaming? Awful. Not fun.

I was kinda happy when the sister got killed. I hated all of the main cast and was rooting for Leatherface
Watched it with my best friend the day Netflix released it and she hadn't watched any of the previous movies and it was single handedly the funniest experience, we agreed that the ending was absolutely iconic and solidified that the Tesla was the best character in the movie.
the "try anything and you're cancelled, bro" is almost as bad as the "You can now kiss each other... or do whatever will get the most likes on Instagram" from the last episode of 'Just Like That'

Honestly, this film sounds so crass and tasteless in how incompetently it handles its subject matter, I'm not sure whether to find it hilarious or offensive (or possibly both)
That confrontation scene in the movie was so bizarre. He just walked away with the shotgun pointed at him and she didn't pull the trigger!
1:30 ... You know a franchise has issues when you can get laughs just by saying all of the instalments and their connections to each other.
But hey, Matthew McConaughey was in one of em with Renée Zellweger.
They had to "greek" the Tesla (make it "unrecognizable"), but they were at a level of don't care that they literally just put some silver tape that any grip has lying around on the steering wheel to cover the badge.
btw, the original TCSM was also a commentary on the vietnam war, on how Tobe Hooper saw how people were being sent to die like meat in a slaughterhouse
As a horror movie fan and influencer, one who is both an audience and a potential star, they really should have tapped you for ideas on this.
The 80s was the horror decade. Nothing will ever come close. I grew up in horror section at the VHS rental stores. Miss those days.

My friend and I watched this when it came out and we were losing it the entire time. I don't know what that says about us either, but it was a hilarious movie. A lot of the actual kill effects were fun too. 10/10 Looking forward to the sequel announcement.

Given where the original film lands in the timeline of horror, I honestly feel that a lot of the tropes that became standard in its wake were introduced to rationalise its visceral, non traditional narrative and provide audiences with a sort of yellow gothic for subsequent slasher films. Villains had narrative rules, the genre had unspoken rules, therefore any story housed a rational outcome to non rational things. As long as film makers trade on that cinematic literacy, particularly in the post Scream and internet landscape, there can never be a true sequel to Chainsaw and nor does there need to be.
I think the "Here's your flag" thing was some heavy-handed "You influencers are the real confederates" take. Which... wow. That is quite the take.

This movie had soooooo much potential. Gentrification, urban vs rural values, child/elderly abuse, overuse of social media/phones, sisterhood, trauma, school shootings, racism/sexism. They could have made a brutal horror movie (the only real scene that I enjoyed was the bus scene) with well-done social commentary that juxtaposed conflicting sides (not necessarily egregiously “woke” but also not facetiously conservative - kind of a devil’s advocate and “mediator” for both sides). And it’s 2022, why are we not “double tapping/stabbing” our serial killers….?! Has Scream taught us nothing????!

From the annoying two main leads.
Somehow guns are never loaded
Somehow leatherface can take shotgun rounds to the body as if he’s Michael Myers.
Somehow they thought it was a good idea to rip off Halloween 2018.
Somehow the car is turning at the end of the movie.
They wasted Sally’s character instead of shooting leatherface she talks to him as if he remembers her. He’s literally a manbaby who just kills.
These are examples of why this movie is horrible and I can’t believe I see people asking for sequel to how horrible this movie was. Also let’s not forget the woke social commentary that just doesn’t fit in the movie at all with the poorly developed characters.

They could of at least thought about the shotgun rounds better by showing him stumbling about before finally getting offed by Sally. Of course, that would also need producers willing to have one movie and no more movies after. At least with that timeline.
i didn't hate it. But i also didn't expect literally anything from it, so there's that, lol. Definitely laughed a lot, suspended disbelief a lot, and enjoyed the bloody kills.

Carrying a gun for feral hogs isn't totally out of the realm of reality depending on where you live. (This movie is still hella stupid.) My friend installs cellphone towers and he carries a side arm while working in remote areas due to panthers and bobcats. Ended up shooting an aggressive cow because it charged him. Don't underestimate wildlife's ability to f-up your sh*t when it wants. (He made an amicable deal with the cow's owner and we all got an email asking if we wanted steak. It was pretty tasty.)

I feel like "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" did a good job at critiquing young city people judging people living in a rural area in a really good and fun way without being totally strawman-y and no one has been able to do it again since
okay ill be honest i'm a huge fan of the texas chainsaw franchise but i see where you're coming from. i liked it coming from me being a huge slasher because the gore in it was fantastic but as a movie standpoint writing acting etc, it was a mess. i felt bring back the original character from the original and just killing her off was in a way a middle finger to the audience. i will say also that i think the 2003 film is fantastic and i prefer it over the 1974 and i think its one of the greatest reboots in film. i felt the 74 version was just a bit of a snuff film but the 2003 has a ton of suspense and i liked how we saw the backstory and the family of leatherface and it was so tense throughout and R. Lee Ermey in a way was more scarier then leatherface in my opinon. overall the 2003 is by far the best film in the whole series.
I have never watched any of these movies but I still screamed no when he ran through the old lady with the maniacal laugh 😵 I am so glad these horror movie reviews exist since I am interested in the stories but can't handle watching them without added humor and censorship 😂

Thank you for clearing up the timeline because I couldn't figure out why this was called a sequel.
The only part I thought was "awesome" was Leatherface's silhouette on the corner as the bus passed. Otherwise the cliches need to...just....go away(although I was shocked no one tripped). I guess this movie was really the first one to have a massacre because even the director said about the bus scene, "the massacre starts."
For a franchise inspired by Ed Gein, this film gained overall nothing.

I always love watching your movie commentary because your thoughts mirror mine almost 100% of the time. This movie was enjoyable for the most part even with all its stupid moments (aside from it having one of the worst endings I’ve ever seen haha). I can even see myself watching it again it was honestly pretty fun with great kills!
I still wouldn’t rate it higher than a 5/10 or anything but for a very stupid movie that didn’t need to be made and I had negative expectations for I was pleasantly surprised
