Brother, buy a little book by Paul Matthews titled 40Years With The 45-70. Youll enjoy it. Then stop using that Hornady Leverrevolution and load your own. You can go real cheap into it with an Lee loader kit and buy some cast bullets to start with.
Cheap Lee reload kit. But buy a good scale n you are golden. I have a cheap Lee kit its about 40 years now and I have load over 10k+ with it. Works great.
@@ITW.Firearms I cast my own 330 Lyman and Postell for 45-70 and Keith style SWC for .45 and .44 mag. Lee also sells great bullet molds. Load for those and many others since 1970s. Get your components now while you still can. Ditto on the Paul Matthews book.
I have a Lee press and reloading equipment. I have very good reliability and accuracy. I use Montana bullet works hard cast gas checked bullets. In 357 mag,44mag, 405 winchester. 303 british, 30-30 win,32-40 win. It brings the cost way down.and they are very accurate and very effective for hunting. Especially in the big bores. And gas checked you can run heavy powder charges. I use the Lyman cast lead manual. 😊 God bless and what Avery nice Henry 😊
I have lived and hunted where you are and loved every minute. I have many stories and memories from the western slope. I reload and it’s true about cost saving. Save those brass.
You slappin’ that trigger!?! Don’t be slapping’ that bad boy! Just kidding. Great video. I appreciate your input on 45-70. Look forward to seeing more!
Nice rifle! I reload for my Winchester 1886. Using cast bullets only so far both 308 gr and 405. . Also great results with factory Remington 405 gr Corelok (1600 fps). Also, Winchester 300 gr PowerPoint (1890 FPS) ammo has worked well. My goto powder has been Reloder 7 and my reloads are coming out at 1620 FPS.
You had said in one of your videos that if I wanted a Bandelero like yours to ask you how to get one. I have a Henry 45 70 and love it. Thanks for the good info.
Hey man, I read your comment this morning and it made my day! I really appreciate it! I’ll be making more videos soon! Just picked up a new M1A, Garand, and lots of other goodies Comments like yours make me want to bust out the tripod and camera
Thank you for sharing this. Love it. I pick up this exact model of Henry next week in .357/.38Sp… I cannot wait. Liked and sub’d I am looking forward to seeing more of this gun on your channel
Great video on the rifle action! I reload for the 450 bushmaster and cast my own 340 grn bullet hunting rounds at half the cost. Its very satisfying to know Im not as dependant on hornady as others
Great video! Awesome ride!! FYI… I started reloading years ago, and began with the book Modern Reloading by Richard Lee. Great book that covers the basics and more. A whole world of reloading gear and supplies out there. I eventually moved off of Lee equipment to Dillon as I wanted to load in volume for 45acp and 38/357. Best of luck and keep sharing these great experiences. You’re very good at it.
If you're going to be going through Eastern Colorado down I-70 I live in a small town of Burlington I do have a magazine that you're welcome to that's all about reloading and it's got the data. I'm not sure but I believe that magazine is called reloader but a lot of your gun magazines will have some Reloading Data in it otherwise Limon and Hornady produces a reloader booklet.
1. I'd be interested in the bandolier contact 2. Huge 45-70 fan. I first had a Henry All Weather I traded it for a .357 All Weather and got a 45-70 (Ruger) Marlin Trapper. 3. I have reloaded for 45-70. Those were Hornady 300 flat nose. I have 500 gn sitting on the shelf but haven't worked on those.
Reloading get a Lee Reloading manual lee 45-70 dies a single stage press kit powder scale . When you can use the 1873 Trap door loads or the 1886 Winchester / 1895 Marlin lover action loads that are a little hotter. You also have the opportunity to load Black Powder. I reload for my 1886 Winchester . I also would be interested in getting the info on the ammunition bandalier.
Hi, I love the Henry Lever Action 45-70. The only reason you had the Failure to Feed, was because you didn’t complete the Cycle correctly when Levering in the next Round. The Henry runs great except when you don’t actuate the Lever completely. Very nice Rifle. Thanks for the Videos showing the Henry.👍👍
If your going to reload don't use the hornady ftx brass, the brass is softer, i couldn't get a good crimp and the bullet heads would be loose, I reloaded starline brass and have had no issues.
There are heavy loads by Grizzly Cartridge that are made for big game they load a +P 300gr HP that runs 2400 fps. That’s enough to flatten a bear. But I agree hand loading opens a 45/70 up to more versatile and hard hitting loads
All lever actions can jam the way the Henry did. It takes gunsmith work to smooth the lever action to make a lever more reliable. That said the size of the 45/70 round makes jambs more likely. Smaller calibers are less likely to catch a round in the gate. I shoot several different levers . It takes practice and smoothing your action to reliable at rapid fire
"Ima tellya" right now, neither of my two Henrys feed a longer round, 357 or 45C. And that heavier round which is longer, looked to hi cup on the length of that cartridge..
Baddest .45-70 commercial loads, Garrett Cartridges of Texas. Also consider DoubleTap Ammo, Grizzly Ammo, Buffalo Bore, and Steinel. Not sure of the status of Henry rifles if they can handle the +p or not, but Winchester 1886 (new manufacture) do easily, and the Ruger made Marlins can handle them as well.
Yep Henry leverguns feed issue bcuz the carriers are crap sent mine back on the day I received it 2 returns and Henry gave me my money back could not imagine trusting my life to a Henry My 1970s marlins have never failed never jammed regardless of ammo or weather never
@@ITW.Firearms I reload, rifle, pistol and shotgun. I don't have anything in 45-70. I just didn't get that far in my collection. I had to retire young due to my health. I would be willing to help you out with your reloading questions. I've been reloading for over 25 years. I do have a marvelous Marlin 336 gray laminate 308 Marlin Express with a Stainless barrel. I shot a deer at 320 yards before any ballistics were available. I had sighted it in, at 100 yards. Smoked that buck!
Reloading isn't all that difficult. Straight wall cases like the 45-70 and 45 Colt are very simple and straight forward. Figure what bullets you want to use and get the reloading manual from that company. Likely on their website as well. Having the manual is nice for all kinds of calibers and general information. Guns magazine is a great resource. Subscribe to that and the sister publication American Handgunner. Tank Hoover, one of the writers, loads both of those cartridges and has articles on such. A single stage press, powder measure, your dies, a hand held priming tool (RCBS or Lee) and your components will get you started. Save your brass!! 😁 From there you're all set. Having a chronograph to see what the loads are doing out of your guns is nice. Not absolutely necessary but sure makes load development easier to get the performance you want.
I hate saying anything critical, but it seemed your action was a little fast and herky jerky with the round that did not feed. I have shot lever action for 54 years with out a issue. Of course I live in South Florida and have no idea how that cold weather would effect the smoothness of the action. I don't do any outdoor activities below 55 degrees. LOL

How about a video on your leather bandolier? That is really nice.
The guy who made it is very talented. Unfortunately, I haven't heard from him in some time. I am looking for a new leather guy to recommend work from

While riding my horse here in Alaska Iuse 400gr hard cast flat nose
