You have rare and run of the mill rifles and shotguns some of which many will never see in real life! Glad to see you can see the advantages of the Henry Tube Feed. Henry has actually given in to those wanting a loading gate, but I was glad to see they left the tube feed option in place as well.

I have the Henry color case-hardened carbine in 44 Magnum with the octagon barrel I believe it's a 16 inch barrel weighs in at seven pounds... now you can get the same gun not only with the tube fed but with the side loading Best of Both Worlds thanks for all the videos you do much appreciated...
Not for too long. They won't be able to compete, once the new minimum wage hits the US , Henry rifles and shotguns are made in Wisconsin . The minimum wage is the same as the Federal $7.25. Of course probably not a single employee of Henry makes $7,25 an hour . But even if ALL the employees were making at least $15 an hour now., will they work for the same $15 when the new minimum wage will be set .UNLESS the US sets new tariffs on foreign made firearms, the industry is looking at a bleak future..It has NOTHING to do with "fairness" for the working class..it has to do with "supply/demand" So BUY your US made firearms NOW,,

Good video. My impression is that Henry is one of those innovative companies that is attempting to produce well-made guns that look like the classic lever-actions we have all seen on television and movies (i.e., Winchesters) while making improvements (like Marlin's better bolt system), all while keeping the costs in line with what people will reasonably pay. Keep up the good work!
Always passed on Henry centerfire rifles because of the tube loading. The fit/finish and wood are a cut above the new Marlins for sure, and maybe better than my older Marlins too. Now with the loading gate models coming out, I may have to pick one up. Great video, as always.
USOG : Just an update to Thank You (!) for your reponse to my question earlier last week concerning the Winchester 1907 .351 ,,, it had the cracked stock etc., if you recall ... After thinking on it some more I went back to the gun shop . After some more haggling , I came home the (very) happy owner of a new classic !! I actually paid $450.00 , instead of the $550.00 they were asking for it ...... Your insight and rational about the mechanics , instead of the focus I had on the stock issues really helped . I believe that the .30-30 and .45-70 are simply called that - looking on Henry's website, they don't really give them a specific name, unlike their Big Boy and Golden Boy line of rifles. I've always liked the idea of a lever-action rifle and thankfully, we can get them over here in the UK.
Hi James, I was told recently that apparently the UK had banned lever actions obviously not true, I’m waiting for the government here in Australia to try it here.
Henry typically names each line of rifles but not name each caliber finish combo. They have the golden boy series, silver boy series, big boy series, frontier series, long ranger series, all weather series
@@Paul-45-70 We haven't banned lever actions. What was banned - completely unfairly - was a class of action known as lever release. Because semi auto centrefire rifles are not legal here (ordinary pistols are fine in Northern Ireland, part of the Good Friday Agreement, I believe), some clever chaps devised a workaround, because otherwise we'd just have straight pull and conventional turn bolt rifles. When you fire, the bolt flies rearwards, ejecting the empty case, and locks open. You then press a button, and the bolt goes home, picking up a live round and readying the rifle for the next shot. There was a variant of this where releasing the bolt was accomplished by pulling the trigger - there were some VZ58s in such a configuration. A couple of years ago there was a public consultation, and amongst other things the topic of these rifles came up. The argument was that 'although these rifles are yet to be used in criminal acts, they could pose exceptional danger to the police and public if they were'. The government, naturally, didn't listen to anybody who objected and went ahead with the bill, it became an Act of Parliament and that was the end of that.
@@Paul-45-70 I don't even know where I pull out half of this stuff. Just things I've learned about and filed away in my head. Hopefully an opportunity to rationalise the gun laws will be made. Many people in the UK don't want to know about firearms, and without public support for reform, there's precious little chance of political change. The best thing to do is bring friends and family into the sport.
Great review as always. Just for info for those that care. I have contacted Ruger and they wrote back about the Marlin line they acquired. Said they are looking at tooling up to make lever rifles. Ruger making a Marlin lever is going to be great thing. I hope and will be buying one as soon as they pump one out. Thank you
Ruger made their model 96 lever actions starting in the late 1990s for about 10 years. Rimfire and .44 mag. Judging by the number I don’t see not very popular, probably a get around on the semi auto bans

Love my Henry .38-55 !!! Action like butter, accurate and gobbles up everything I feed it. Hard hitting cartridge. 255 grain cast bullet at 1800 fps will knock anything in lower 48 off its feet. Ask me how I know.
I wanted to watch and see how you rated Henry rifles after doing videos on Holland and Holland, Rigby and other top drawer English made firearms. I am so impressed that you give credit where its due and owning and using some of the best made guns there are still give the manufacturers of Henry rifles praise for their ingenuity. I’ve been enjoying my 1860 lately. It is so smooth and has almost no noticeable recoil. With factory Winchester 44-40 cartridges, it is so mild I’ve been enjoying it more than my 22’s.
I enjoy your speaking voice very much. It is just icing on a great cake that your topic is one I am so interested in as well. You give me a window on firearms I have never experienced (and at my age probably never will) and a way to enjoy what I consider to be art fully equal with other branches such as painting or sculptures. Growing up with guns from the time I could walk seems to have created the power for them to cast a powerful spell when they truly come together at the apex of the craft. Whether they are Kentucky rifles or modern in a traditional way (I have never really come to terms with plastic stocks although I have a few). They take me back to when my father was teaching my brother and myself gun manners, to when I passed on the culture to my sons, and now to when my oldest is passing it on to his son and daughter. Thank you again for sharing.
Henry recently added a side gate to every single one of their models that is not a rimfire and are keeping the tube loading method as well. So you can unload your rifle without having to cycle every round through the action which seems pretty usable. And of course you get the benefit of the side gate not having to be near the muzzle when loading and it’s easier to top off your gun with a side gate.
I love the Henry rifles and also the older Marlin rifles. They are all accurate and parts are easy to find. My favorite calibers, beside 22lr, are .35 Remington and 45/70 Govt. I guess I’ll get a few 357 magnum levers once this gun and ammo freeze is finally over. I love the simplicity of design of these rifles. This was a great presentation and I’ve watched it several times. My newest Henry has a side loading gate, also! Mike, thank you for all you do here!

I have a wildlife edition with the brass reciever and engravings of Bear on 1 side and a moose on the other. Levereloution hornady factory ammo, 93 yards 3 shot group that is touching. Pretty accurate, I think they have the smoothest action of all levers.

I have a Henry 30-30 with the slimmer barrel and blued receiver, and I am thrilled with it as a light and comfortable reliable hunter. The tiger-stripe coloring is just OK, I prefer the "Rorschach ink blot" irreg yellow-blue case colors of old, or else give me a blued steel. BTW Another GREAT video.
Hey I noticed a very nice styling que. The checkering around the wrist, It goes down around bottom of the tang. Little extra something there. Good work Henry.

Funny you mentioned Doug Turnbull, it grabbed my attention. His shop is right down the road from me. I never realized how well known his work is until I started watching firearms videos a few years ago. His shop puts out some fine pieces.
My nephew and I purchased Henry Rifles together a few years ago. He got the Big-Boy in .45LC with a brass receiver and I bought the Big-Boy in .38/.357, all blued. Both shoot really well! Great video, as always!

I really like the lever guns, and Henry makes some really beautiful ones. I have been kicking around the idea of adding one of the new side gate ones to my collection.
I own Marlin, Winchester and Henry. The best brand by far if Henry. The fit, finish, bluing, accuracy, smooth action, tube feed and loading gate, and beautiful wood stocks are far and away better than the competition. I recently purchased a Henry steelside gate in .360 Buckhammer and it takes me back to 1880 every range session.
Great video! Great LEE-VER action rifle. (Lol. Say it how you wanna. To heck with haters.) I love my Henry Big Boy in .357 MAG/.38 SPL. Never fails to feed, or eject, once I figured out what ammo it "likes" (Hornady Critical Defense, in my case, along with a few others), and is accurate, and solidly built... and looks good! Also: Henry; Made in the USA, or not made at all!

Hey Mike, I've always liked Henry's attitude about keeping old-school quality and remaining American-made. I've given some thought to getting one of the 1860 Models but I would really love one of the 1860's in 22lr. I realize there are a few things that would need to be reconfigured for 22lr. I'd think a few of their designers might need an hour or two and some pizza but they'd have the coolest 22-lever rifle on the market, period! Yep, total bragging rights at the range! Maybe Henry might produce the 1860RF one day... I'd buy one! Great video, as always! Take care and be well!
henry makes the best value proposition in rimfire lever actions. They have much in common with the bill rugers start, read the market, find the holes and fill with smartly designed well made products. I've yet to own one however. Thanks for the video excellent commentary as always

I love the look of color case hardening done using something like the bone charcoal method. I just don't like the look of the chemical process used to mimic "color case hardening" on the Henry. It ends up looking like the liquid pattern that it is. It makes the Henry look striped. That said, the overall build quality on the latest Henry's is superb.
You are my favorite when it comes to guns. No big ego and an honest opinion not tainted by other Utube gun sites. Cameras and all that are not that important with the information you are sharing. My honest opinion.

My opinion they are. Beautiful guns with lifetime warranty, I own three at this time, all lever actions, golden boy.22 mag, 17 cal lever, 45/70 lever !
I would choose. Remington made Marlin 1895 CB 45-70 with the 18.5” octagonal barrel. 6+1 rounds. Henry’s seem to be so popular in 2022 but a Remington made Marlin 2016 or newer is a superb Marlin levergun.
Your Henry's lever pivot screw is about to fall out! P.S. I'm really tempted with the .45-70 version for my dedicated Buffalo Rifle. Have the Henry Golden Boy in .22 and it is smoother than my Browning BL 22. The half mag and pistol grip of the larger caliber is Classic!
I have a Henry 22lr golden boy. It is a very fine shooting firearm. When it comes to case hardening firearm parts in my opinion Turnbull is by far the best. All the guns I have are factory done but I still appreciate their work. Affording it is another thing.
I've never had a problem with Marlins cross bolt safety. I know you can unload the rifles without cycling the action, but with the cross bolt I have no need to stick my cold, tired finger into the loading gate at the end of the day. I do like the Henry rifles, and I guess they aren't the same company, I still like the history of them.
Well, I have a boat load of rifles and the Henry Big Boy without the side loading gate is my favorite. I actually like the tube loading better, it's quicker and easier. Don't get me wrong, the Marlin lever action is a nice rifle, but the Henry is better built quality, the fit and finish is second to none. The hardened brass finish get attention on the gun range.
Enjoyable and informative, as always! I'd love to see your take on one of the Henry "Long Ranger" models. These have an interesting design: They are a lever action, but have a rotating three-lug bolt that is said to lock up pretty tight. They are chambered in long range calibers, even 6.5 Creedmore, so the actions seem like they might have a lot more going on than a typical lever carbine. Some report that they are very slick. I've only handled one in a shop and there was a lot of travel and stickiness to the action... but maybe that would improve significantly with some breaking in(?)
The Henry made version of the Marlin 336 is very well made and looks good. Marlin has been on a down slide since the Remlin came out. I have a 1995 337cs I baught new that I wouldn't trade for any other...sharp checkering, excellent wood and fitting, deep blueing etc. Vidio quality is just fine, enjoy all your vids.👍
You will get a trigger upgrade with that recall as well. My 45-70 single shot came after the recall and there is a dimple inside the trigger guard behind the trigger to denote that. Trigger pulls at 3.5 lbs. I have 4 Henry Rifles. 45-75 single shot, .357 Big Boy, .22 Lever action, and a Lever Action Axe in 410. Only the Axe has a side loading gate. I honestly don't feel the other rifles need the loading gate; the tube loading is fine. My only gripe with my Henry rifles are the cosmetic surface of the barrels. The blueing is fine but the finish is satin, and not smooth. They all shoot great. The H001 .22 lever has over 5,000 rounds through it.
Great video. Who cares about perfect quality..you're making an amateur RUclips video about something that you're passionate about...not a Hollywood movie. I love Marlins but I find that the Henry's have a smoother feeling action.
If I was actually going to buy a Henry to hunt with I would definitely stay away from the heavy octagon barrels. I have a Henry Big Boy in 357 Magnum and shoot it very little due to the weight. A 357 would be so much more fun in a light carbine style lever rifle.
I like your vids for sure. I understand that Henry fills a nice for sure. But from a nostalgic point of view I think its very hard to beat the original's. These guns move it right into the Rossi class of firearms. 😳😊

We have a similar rifle here that is legal at the moment.
@@Paul-45-70 I don't even know where I pull out half of this stuff. Just things I've learned about and filed away in my head. Hopefully an opportunity to rationalise the gun laws will be made. Many people in the UK don't want to know about firearms, and without public support for reform, there's precious little chance of political change. The best thing to do is bring friends and family into the sport.

Just for info for those that care. I have contacted Ruger and they wrote back about the Marlin line they acquired. Said they are looking at tooling up to make lever rifles.

Ruger made their model 96 lever actions starting in the late 1990s for about 10 years. Rimfire and .44 mag. Judging by the number I don’t see not very popular, probably a get around on the semi auto bans

Love my Henry .38-55 !!! Action like butter, accurate and gobbles up everything I feed it. Hard hitting cartridge. 255 grain cast bullet at 1800 fps will knock anything in lower 48 off its feet. Ask me how I know.
I wanted to watch and see how you rated Henry rifles after doing videos on Holland and Holland, Rigby and other top drawer English made firearms. I am so impressed that you give credit where its due and owning and using some of the best made guns there are still give the manufacturers of Henry rifles praise for their ingenuity.

I’ve been enjoying my 1860 lately. It is so smooth and has almost no noticeable recoil. With factory Winchester 44-40 cartridges, it is so mild I’ve been enjoying it more than my 22’s.
I enjoy your speaking voice very much. It is just icing on a great cake that your topic is one I am so interested in as well. You give me a window on firearms I have never experienced (and at my age probably never will) and a way to enjoy what I consider to be art fully equal with other branches such as painting or sculptures. Growing up with guns from the time I could walk seems to have created the power for them to cast a powerful spell when they truly come together at the apex of the craft. Whether they are Kentucky rifles or modern in a traditional way (I have never really come to terms with plastic stocks although I have a few). They take me back to when my father was teaching my brother and myself gun manners, to when I passed on the culture to my sons, and now to when my oldest is passing it on to his son and daughter. Thank you again for sharing.
Henry recently added a side gate to every single one of their models that is not a rimfire and are keeping the tube loading method as well. So you can unload your rifle without having to cycle every round through the action which seems pretty usable. And of course you get the benefit of the side gate not having to be near the muzzle when loading and it’s easier to top off your gun with a side gate.
I can't get on the Henry bandwagon cause I left on the old Win/Mar stagecoach. You still make great videos .

I love the Henry rifles and also the older Marlin rifles. They are all accurate and parts are easy to find. My favorite calibers, beside 22lr, are .35 Remington and 45/70 Govt. I guess I’ll get a few 357 magnum levers once this gun and ammo freeze is finally over. I love the simplicity of design of these rifles. This was a great presentation and I’ve watched it several times. My newest Henry has a side loading gate, also! Mike, thank you for all you do here!

I have a wildlife edition with the brass reciever and engravings of Bear on 1 side and a moose on the other. Levereloution hornady factory ammo, 93 yards 3 shot group that is touching. Pretty accurate, I think they have the smoothest action of all levers.

had two Henry's from 2002. both had failure to feed problems and with one the front sight fell of because wrong screw was used.

I have a Henry 30-30 with the slimmer barrel and blued receiver, and I am thrilled with it as a light and comfortable reliable hunter. The tiger-stripe coloring is just OK, I prefer the "Rorschach ink blot" irreg yellow-blue case colors of old, or else give me a blued steel. BTW Another GREAT video.

Funny you mentioned Doug Turnbull, it grabbed my attention. His shop is right down the road from me. I never realized how well known his work is until I started watching firearms videos a few years ago. His shop puts out some fine pieces.
My nephew and I purchased Henry Rifles together a few years ago. He got the Big-Boy in .45LC with a brass receiver and I bought the Big-Boy in .38/.357, all blued. Both shoot really well! Great video, as always!

I own Marlin, Winchester and Henry. The best brand by far if Henry. The fit, finish, bluing, accuracy, smooth action, tube feed and loading gate, and beautiful wood stocks are far and away better than the competition. I recently purchased a Henry steelside gate in .360 Buckhammer and it takes me back to 1880 every range session.

Great video! Great LEE-VER action rifle. (Lol. Say it how you wanna. To heck with haters.) I love my Henry Big Boy in .357 MAG/.38 SPL. Never fails to feed, or eject, once I figured out what ammo it "likes" (Hornady Critical Defense, in my case, along with a few others), and is accurate, and solidly built... and looks good! Also: Henry; Made in the USA, or not made at all!

Now that real Marlins have become unobtainium, Henry has become the "working man's" American-made levergun. Hey, somebody had to fill the void!
I tend to focus on older Winchester Lever Guns, but also own and shoot Marlin and Henry levers in various calibers. Frankly, I love all of them.
Great video and I was wondering if you could do one on how and where to find guns with the best prices. I've noticed many of the prices you have quoted over the years are many times double than that I find. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Mike, I've always liked Henry's attitude about keeping old-school quality and remaining American-made.
I've given some thought to getting one of the 1860 Models but I would really love one of the 1860's in 22lr.
I realize there are a few things that would need to be reconfigured for 22lr. I'd think a few of their designers might need an hour or two and some pizza but they'd have the coolest 22-lever rifle on the market, period! Yep, total bragging rights at the range! Maybe Henry might produce the 1860RF one day... I'd buy one!

henry makes the best value proposition in rimfire lever actions. They have much in common with the bill rugers start, read the market, find the holes and fill with smartly designed well made products. I've yet to own one however. Thanks for the video excellent commentary as always

I love the look of color case hardening done using something like the bone charcoal method. I just don't like the look of the chemical process used to mimic "color case hardening" on the Henry. It ends up looking like the liquid pattern that it is. It makes the Henry look striped. That said, the overall build quality on the latest Henry's is superb.
You are my favorite when it comes to guns. No big ego and an honest opinion not tainted by other Utube gun sites. Cameras and all that are not that important with the information you are sharing. My honest opinion.

Don’t worry about your videos they are great . Henry is now putting loading gates so I might buy one now and I like the single shots to .I am a older guy now and just enjoy looking at your wonderful collection thank you for all the good videos. Don’t sweat your detractors and complainers .

I would choose. Remington made Marlin 1895 CB 45-70 with the 18.5” octagonal barrel. 6+1 rounds. Henry’s seem to be so popular in 2022 but a Remington made Marlin 2016 or newer is a superb Marlin levergun.
Your Henry's lever pivot screw is about to fall out! P.S. I'm really tempted with the .45-70 version for my dedicated Buffalo Rifle. Have the Henry Golden Boy in .22 and it is smoother than my Browning BL 22. The half mag and pistol grip of the larger caliber is Classic!

I have a Henry 22lr golden boy. It is a very fine shooting firearm. When it comes to case hardening firearm parts in my opinion Turnbull is by far the best. All the guns I have are factory done but I still appreciate their work. Affording it is another thing.
I've never had a problem with Marlins cross bolt safety. I know you can unload the rifles without cycling the action, but with the cross bolt I have no need to stick my cold, tired finger into the loading gate at the end of the day. I do like the Henry rifles, and I guess they aren't the same company, I still like the history of them.

Well, I have a boat load of rifles and the Henry Big Boy without the side loading gate is my favorite.
I actually like the tube loading better, it's quicker and easier.
Don't get me wrong, the Marlin lever action is a nice rifle, but the Henry is better built quality, the fit and finish is second to none.
The hardened brass finish get attention on the gun range.

Enjoyable and informative, as always! I'd love to see your take on one of the Henry "Long Ranger" models. These have an interesting design: They are a lever action, but have a rotating three-lug bolt that is said to lock up pretty tight.
They are chambered in long range calibers, even 6.5 Creedmore, so the actions seem like they might have a lot more going on than a typical lever carbine. Some report that they are very slick. I've only handled one in a shop and there was a lot of travel and stickiness to the action... but maybe that would improve significantly with some breaking in(?)

I found that pulling the hammer back prior to working the lever on the Long Ranger makes it much smoother to operate. Just me.
Color case hardening really looks good on that rifle. I would like to see Henry produce a 22 with the same case hardened receiver.

The Henry made version of the Marlin 336 is very well made and looks good. Marlin has been on a down slide since the Remlin came out. I have a 1995 337cs I baught new that I wouldn't trade for any other...sharp checkering, excellent wood and fitting, deep blueing etc. Vidio quality is just fine, enjoy all your vids.👍

Excellent video as usual.
You will get a trigger upgrade with that recall as well.
My 45-70 single shot came after the recall and there is a dimple inside the trigger guard behind the trigger to denote that.
Trigger pulls at 3.5 lbs.
I have 4 Henry Rifles.
45-75 single shot, .357 Big Boy, .22 Lever action, and a Lever Action Axe in 410.
Only the Axe has a side loading gate. I honestly don't feel the other rifles need the loading gate; the tube loading is fine.
My only gripe with my Henry rifles are the cosmetic surface of the barrels. The blueing is fine but the finish is satin, and not smooth.
They all shoot great.
The H001 .22 lever has over 5,000 rounds through it.

I love Marlins but I find that the Henry's have a smoother feeling action.
If I was actually going to buy a Henry to hunt with I would definitely stay away from the heavy octagon barrels. I have a Henry Big Boy in 357 Magnum and shoot it very little due to the weight. A 357 would be so much more fun in a light carbine style lever rifle.

But from a nostalgic point of view I think its very hard to beat the original's.
These guns move it right into the Rossi class of firearms. 😳😊
