All ways enjoy the content. Thanks for talking about the Canadian system. It's been a hard few years being a gun owner in Canada. The banning of "Assault style rifles", things like Ar-10's, Ar-15's, and large bore rifles like 50cal was done by way of an Order In Council. It's a common system in common law countries used to alter, or appoint various regulatory changes without the need of new laws. So no law was passed, they just deemed around 2500 rifles as prohibited devices. I was made over night a criminal in procession of a rifle that was now prohibited to own. They gave everyone who owns one a two year amnesty. Saying they would make a program to buy them from their owners. The two years has come and gone, and a judge had to order the government to extend the amnesty as no buy back has been done. So the prohibited rifles that the government claims are to dangerous to own. Have sat in everyone's safes for the last two years as paper weights. The banning of Hand guns, is happening by way of a law, Bill C-21 but has not yet passed the senate. They are being challenged in many court cases over the way the used the order in council. So this time they are attempting to avoid major lawsuits by actually passing proper legislation. The announcement of Bill C-21 led to a run on all things hand gun. More handguns sold during this period then any year in the history of this country everything was out of stock. So they then banned the transfer and import of handguns by once again an order in council to stop the ever increasing number of sales. They also claim it's not a ban, just a freeze. So anyone who currently owns one will keep their hang guns. But there will be no further importation, selling, trading, transferring or handing it down to loved ones. When you die the government shows up to your estate and takes them, with zero compensation. Being a gun owner in Canada is getting worse and worse as more firearms bans and stricter magazine laws are put in place. I have no issue with licensing and the way most of the system is designed. But under the current government, they continue to get worse. We are an easy scapegoat. It's easy votes for them in large city centers which makes up the majority of their seats in the house of commons. And only effects a group of people who for the most part do not vote for them.
Thank you for taking the time to explain it all. Sounds much like what a totalitarian state might do. I hope I am confused. Surely these kinds of things can't stand; or perhaps I am an idealist.
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Sadly today at committee, the liberal government proposed an amendment titled G4 to Bill C-21. This would enshrine in law, all of the regulatory changes done by their Order in Councils. Circumventing the lawsuits by way of legislation, as well as any need to offer compensation to owners of prohibited firearms. They also have a new section banning any semi auto rifle, or shotgun shooting center fire ammunition that uses a detachable magazine that can hold more then 5 rounds. This is going to further criminalize firearms owners across this country as millions of these firearms exist. Canada is an odd country. We have a constitution, and a charter of rights and freedoms. Both of which have back doors to allow the government to circumvent our rights as Canadians when they deem it reasonable. We also have no property rights to speak of. The more I age, the more I realize that Canada isn't as free of a nation as they advertise. And the prosperity they project to the world is nothing more then falsehoods. Our government can be just as corrupt and sneaky as any of the worlds worst offenders. They just hide it better behind a mask of false morality and virtue. Thanks again for the videos. I've learned lots from your channel, and thoroughly enjoy the content. Best wishes, from Canada.
I left the Netherlands partly because of there gun laws. Of the 6 countries of my consideration I chose Canada it gave me space and freedom . Should have gone to Florida or Hungary
@canadianguy1955 @UnitedStatesOfGuns I think you hit the nail on the head when you said: "We are an easy scapegoat. It's easy votes for them in large city centers which makes up the majority of their seats in the house of commons. And only effects a group of people who for the most part do not vote for them." They are passing these laws because it actually *increases* votes for them. It is democracy in action. It's not totalitarian because it's what the people actually want. There is an increasing divide between urban life and rural life. People in cities live their whole lives never seeing a single gun, never knowing anybody who's seen a gun, and never even hearing about a gun except when there's an active shooter at the local school or downtown at the movie theater. If the majority of people support these laws then they will continue to be passed. It's not the Canadian government deciding that it doesn't trust its people with guns, it's the Canadian people that don't trust each other with guns and don't want to see or hear about guns. The only way to counteract this is to advocate for important issues outside of the echo chambers we have all found ourselves in. Gun owners or people against gun control will gravitate towards videos and channels like these, but that's just preaching to the choir. To make a change, you have to start a national conversation and make appealing arguments targeted for the people living in cities who wouldn't normally care about these issues.
I bought a Steyr years ago not knowing much about them and quickly became a fan. I have bought many more Steyrs since then and won't stop. Steyr has become one of my favorite firearms makers. They are accurate and high quality.
Mike, I, for one, very much appreciate your humility. You keep it simple with the firearm as the focal point. After all, they are the stars of the show. Cheers, Marc
Love Steyr and Mannlicher. I have an original Zephyr with double triggers. It's amazing. I grew up staring at it in my dad's closet. Unfortunately/fortunately it's belongs to me now. Amazing rifles.
Well,I bought my zephyr ii based on your vidio.I put a 4x on it shot into a dime after 10 shots at 50 yards with cci hollow points,my brother in law put his 6.5x20 on it and with rws r50 it consistently shot clover leafs of bench.Wonderfull rifle.Thx for info. P.s. 5 shot groups.
The Zephyr II would be a beautiful rifle if it was polished blue. Interesting that only Japan is still able to produce highly polished blued finishes at decent prices.
The omission of iron sights has always been a point of frustration but thanks to this video I learned that they can be installed using Loctite. Thanks for the advice.
I have to say that I'm really impressed with mine chambered in .17 HMR😊 My first group at 100 yards (scoped and off a rest) surprised me with a .54" five shot group. They opened up as the barrel and full length stock heated up. Such a beautiful piece of work. Sadly, they're no longer available in North America. I appreciate your channel, we share a lot of the same rifles.
That Steyr is so well done, I love the looks of it and apparently it's a shooter as well. I always look forward to your videos Mike. Thanks for posting.
Pretty darn good group ! Match grade .22 ammo would be fun to try several brands , every time I do that it takes half a day to get the data but it’s fun !
I was at a gun show in the 70's and I saw a Steyer Zephyr in a full stock Mannlicher with double set triggers. The guy told me it was a 1955's vintage and wanted $750 for it. This was back when you could buy a Win. 52 or a Rem. 40x for around $400/500 bucks. It was out of my reach at the time. I always thought Steyer rifles are beautiful. My only complaint with many of the higher quality .22's is that they keep using those cheap looking sheet metal trigger guards. My CZ's were like that. For what you have to spend on a rifle like that, it should have a machined steel trigger guard. Other than that, they got it right. As far as the gun laws go; here in the USA, we have two weapons. Our second amendment to the constitution and our vote. You apparently only have your vote. Even with us; it's still difficult. Thanks Mike, and hang in there!
The CZ-452 and CZ-455 are descendants of the CZ Model 1 (ZKM-451). The CZ Model 1 was designed as a military training rifle for the German Army during the Second World War. So the stamped trigger guard on those CZ's comes from that heritage, and of course the years when Czechoslovakia was in the Soviet orbit didn't create incentive to improve the cosmetic looks of the CZ-452.
Mike, the Steyr manufactory location is in the name. Steyr is historically a Protestant city and the Holy Roman Emperor reportedly tried to avoid giving orders to the local gunmakers, in favour of Ferlach. Steyr is more central, however and eventually they received sufficient government patronage for a group of gunmakers to band together, as with the Birmingham Small Arms Company (B.S.A.). They also engaged Pratt and Whitney, just like B.S.A. and in the early 20th century, Lithgow Small Arms; to set up their manufactory. The Zephyr II is a beautiful rifle. Thank you for sharing it with us. Loctite 480 is an interesting product and … with appropriate assembly jigs, I can see that it would be useful. Freehand application thereof, would, I suspect, be a virtual nightmare, as with any ‘very fast acting’ adhesive. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿!
Another great presentation, Sir. And, again, helped me discover a stunning little rifle. Came across on in 17HMR. Will think about it as the Steyr are really nice guns.
💥💥💥😁😁😁Thank you so much! You're the FIRST person to help my channel Super Thanks! My channel has been operating at a loss for at least 10 years. Very much appreciated.
Your groups off hand are very good considering your tremors. I have essential tremors and early onset Parkinson's Disease. I have tremors in both hands and legs a well as my core. Trying to shoot consistent groups is almost impossible. I cant hold still to shoot offhand. I have to sweep targets and pull the trigger as I cross my intended point of impact. It works for now. I dont shoot as much as I used to but my passion for firearms has remained. Your channel has become my favorite thanks for all the hard work making these vids. It means allot to me to see someone with tremors similar to mine still shooting and enjoying firearms.
Thank you James - I hope your doctor reached the right conclusions. At first I was told I had Parkinsons as well - but then that was removed. There are medications for essential tremors - I hope you get them; in my case the tremors are at least 90% less. I wish you a speedy return to full health and the Parkinsons diagnosis is often reached too quickly IMHO. Good shooting my friend.
I got new bottom metal from DIPinc. The finish was a perfect match, highly recommended. It takes CZ magazine too. The accuracy is as good as my target rifle. I am just enamored with mine.
Hey Mike, that is one nice rifle (especially for a .22). Heard alot about them but never had the opportunity to shoot one! Btw, that offhand group of yours is great! I think that tells the tell (sets us apart as shooters)......many can ''shoot'' from benches or propped against a post or tree, with a scope I might add, but freehand is a completely different ballgame! One of the highlights of my hunting ''career'', lol, was killing a decent 8 pt. WT when I was 26 with a Rem.700 Mtn.Rifle in 280 at 145 yds. It took 2 shots but I actually was impressed with myself! God bless you my friend and stay safe as well! Great content!
That's a great shot Bobby. People write me about all kinds of hunting at great distances and I admire their dedication, skill and equipment - from range finders to wind socks and bipods and such...but your shot....is my style.
Spotting a BSA Scorpion in the back there! Amazing that you have one given all the other things you can have in Canada. Don't let the laws go the same way as the UK please.
I'm pretty sure that Canadians will not rest until the freedoms set in place by generations past and all those who died or were wounded at Juno and Vimy and countless other places, are restored. Taking sidearms from the hands of veterans, their children and their grandchildren and all the Indiginous peoples, who made all of what we have possible - is inconceivable.
Steyrs in generally are very pretty firearms from the dark blueing to their selection of wood. This Zephyr II is no exception :) I have never met a CZ 452 that was not accurate, but not as pretty (not even close) as the Zephyr. Kimber of Yonkers another fine looking 22 and pretty accurate too. Impressive production/channel you have and informative . Thank You.
You’re right about the sights, such a classic looking rifle and yet no open sights!! I have only one rifle with out open sights and I make a point to buy rifle with open sights!!
Brett, nor cal, USA. Been to Kenya 3 times to build hospitals. Only the government personnel there can own guns… I had to pay bribes everywhere to gov officials with guns (sometimes pointing at me) to move material to build the for mentioned hospitals…. Hummm.. let’s hope laws in Canada and the U.S. will change. Thank you sir for your candor and honest insight.
A good friend has one and the wood stock would twist with humidity changes. Other than that it shot well. The mags would interchange with another mfg but i cant recall which maker and model though.
Best from Europe, nice collection. Have you ever heard of Anschutz or CZ? Many Olympic shooters have. I have a Savage/Anschutz in .22mag that really shoots smoothly & groups very well. Made in West Germany. I paid $500 for it last week.
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEO. I recently got a Zephyr II in 22magnum but haven't shot it yet. You are CORRECT about it being very well made and materials used. I was SURPRISED that my Chinese Norinco 522 is an AMAZING example of what the Chinese can do if they really try. It is a BEAUTIFUL 22lr, the wood is very nice walnut, inletting is spot on, hammer forged heavy barrel (no sights), GREAT TRIGGER and the screws are good sized Allen wrench which I like. Unfortunately I haven't shot it much to know it's REAL POTENTIAL which is a SHAME on ME. My Mauser ES 340B is another BEAUTIFULLY MADE 22lr rifle, don't make them like this anymore (mini Mauser action) it's ALL ORIGINAL and in VG+ condition. Now that I'm RETIRED I'm going to try harder to shoot my TOYS MORE especially since 22lr ammo is still REASONABLY CHEAP.😉😁😁😁. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON KEEPING GUN COLLECTING AND SHOOTING SOMETHING EVERY LAW ABIDING CITIZEN FROM EVERYWHERE CAN ENJOY.🤔😉😁😁😁
Thank you Hawkeye - Lucky you - not easy to find the 522. I shot my Norinco BRNO copy the other day and it is just as accurate as my BRNO. Maybe the fit and finish is wanting - but still - great .22. Hope you get out shooting more!
Hello again I just happened to see this video and had to make a COMMENT. I'm a real 22lr ENTHUSIAST but a good friend of mine has always talked up the 22Magnum and I don't have one even though I have at least 15 different 22lr rifles. So back in my mind I thought I maybe should have at least one BUT VERY NICE ONE. I had bought a 10" barrel German made 8 shot 22magnum revolver for cheap but fairly well made. I liked the long barrel because to take advantage of the cartridge. Now that I have a 22magnum pistol the idea of a rifle in the same caliber was more on my mind. I go to Cabela's from time to time to check their USED GUNS SECTION, I've bought a few nice pieces there over a couple years. Well then I see the Steyr Zephyr II in 22magnum, it was BEAUTIFUL. I started to check it out and noticed the HAMMER FORGED BARREL and the SPOON BOLT HANDLE. I would have liked for it to have iron sights but NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. It takes CZ 22magnum mags which I thought was a PLUS, they work well. UNFORTUNATELY the only thing that I thought that took away from its ESTHETICS was the SHEET METAL trigger guard. The reason why I say that is I have a Chinese NS 522 which is a NICE COPY of a Anschutz 54 action made by the same factory that makes their OLYMPIC RIFLES and it has a MACHINED trigger guard which gives it a NICER LOOK. MY 2 PRE-WWII MAUSERS both have MACHINED trigger guards, makes them look more REFINED. I haven't shot the Steyr Zephyr II yet but LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING SO SOON. 🤔😳🤗👍
Hi Charles - Thanks for taking the time to write. I agree - the trigger guard/bottom metal could be better; yet it isn't a perfect world : ) Good on you for getting the Magnum - I've always found it to be an excellent round. Good shooting and all the best.
Great dialect.very intelligent and always useful info.i agree with you all bolt action rifles should come with sights Cost savings aaagghh I don't buy and sell I buy and shoot just a few .mainly Winchester 54s these days.excellent rifles for the money .calibers mainly 270s and 06s.another great value as you've pointed out is the Husqvarna 46.in my humble opinion the best bolt action for the money. Obsolete cal .9.3x57 but once you obtain dies .it's in a league of its own.great video thank you
Couldn’t agree more! I have several husqvarna and just love them even though I have several pre64’s. I am also a huge fan of the Sako’s which make a fantastic rifle and the most accurate of all the hundreds of rifles I have owned over the last 60 years.
FWIW, Vermont, which allows any person over 18 to carry firearms, including handguns, concealed or openly, without any form of license or permit, has a lower murder rate (1.6/100K) than Canada (1.76/100K). Go figure. 🤷♂ Obviously, factors other than firearms laws are the reason for variances in crime rates. The Steyr Zephyr rifle is a really nice looking and high quality rifle, and is available. There are several available on Gunbroker right now and they run in the $900-$1100 range. About in line with other high quality .22 rifles.
Thank you gary K and I'm glad you are in Vermont. I hunted cougar with a fellow from Vermont - he had the dogs - great hunt but no cougar. The Zephyr II is the best of the current lot I think.
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Actually, I am not in Vermont. I'm retired and live in Florida. I had a 36 year career in law enforcement in both a very large US city and with the federal government, which included an assignment on the Canadian border which took me to Montreal/Quebec and bordering areas of the US in NY/VT/NH. I hunted moose/bear/deer in both Vermont and Quebec. And geese on Lake Champlain in Vermont. Great place for Snow Geese! I also had a stint overseas in Czech Republic (Czechia), Poland and Ukraine. From Czechia I sent home two great Czech shotguns (a BRNO and an Opava) and a BRNO O/U double rifle. I managed some grouse hunting in Czechia...with a 16 ga. double gun of course. Very nice and gun friendly country. From Ukraine, I brought home a scandalously young and beautiful wife who also likes shooting. 😜
Steyr makes very nicely balanced arms, I have a Anschutz that I like really well for small game. Lately I bought a CZ 455 that feels and shoots incredibly well as I tend to like the comb on the stock.
considering West Germany and date of manufacture. I have a SigSauer P226, the slide states made in w germany but markings on slide date it as 1995. Not sure if this relates to the rifle in Your video but I guess it took time for some manufacturers to adjust markings.
I wonder if you have ever encountered a NS-522. I purchased one nearly by accident in an online auction. They were made on Anshutz machining by the Chinese government as competition guns, stored as surplus, exported to the US to be sold on the civilian market but banned by Bill Clinton just as they came up for sale. They were then exported to Canada and sold for nearly nothing. The accuracy is exceptional, and the hammer forged barrel are really beautiful.
i hesitated for so long between the zephyr II and the anschutz 1761 a couple weeks ago. I went with the 1761 and i dont regret accuracy-wise but i must admit, the steyr wins the beauty contest...!
OK looking rifle, I like the schnabel forend but not especially the rest of the stock; cheekpiece is too low for a start and the sharp edges around the pistolgrip will pick up knocks. Prefer the Sako Finnfire, which in itself is almost a copy of the Mauser 201. The 201 went out of production years ago but I was lucky to land on one, which I will not voluntarily let go of. I did enjoy your review of a CZ 'mini mauser' in .22 hornet. Sadly in the UK we can't just pop out and buy whatever rifle takes our fancy, otherwise I'd have one. Regardless of finish and appearance of the rifles above, you will always struggle to fault a CZ. They might be inexpensive and a bit workmanlike, but they are bombproof and tackdrivers. Coincidentally, I watched a vid today by Shooting and Country TV, called 'How far can you shoot a .22LR' . He goes out to 480 yards!! Worth a watch. Sorry for you Canadian guys, you'll have to vote your WEF Prime Minister out.
What a fantastic rifle. I've looked at a few of them but always wind up thinking "I can buy a good enterfire rifle for what these go for." I realize this is an unfair assessment as the Zephyr is constructed just like a centerfire rife and select woods are used, so they are priced commensurate with their quality.
Hi David - I know what you mean; whatever is going on out there - some guns seem to take 6-9 months to arrive - no one's fault - supply chain. The Browning I ordered took 9 months - a BLR Takedown. I guess all this economic and war turmoil is messing with things. I usually revert to the used rack these days. Hope you get your rifles soon - superb - both. Have a great weekend David.
That Steyr looks like a large gun. A lot of 22s are smaller and lighter than centerfire firearms. For practicing I like a 22 that feels comparable in size and weight to a centerfire. Such a fine firearm. As for the recent laws being passed in Canada I feel bad that our friends to the north are suffering from this tyranny. I have seen videos from hunters in Canada that were describing how their hunting guns may soon become illegal. Some of which were handed down from family members.
It is not a large rifle. And the weight is light. But it has a nice barrel length and feel of a large rifle if you want to gain cheap shooting training for a larger caliber rifle. As for here in Kanada, if more gun owners said come and get them this would stop the govt in its tracks because even arrogant govt enforcer thugs would not wish to face harm, and the leftist politicians would have public relations problems with spilling the blood of even their most hated subjects.
I'm surprised by how far forward he placed the rear sight. I thought the longer the sight radius the better, but I know this guy knows what he's doing.
Hi Chris - I once hunted geese near Kindersley, Saskatchewan. I was standing in the middle of no where with a farmer who said that if he wanted to he could go days and longer without seeing anyone . The land is so vast there. Yet for his guns he is treated like a criminal gangster in some bustling city. After a few hours we saw a truck in the distance.
It's so true. The saying here is that you can watch your dog run for days and never lose sight of it. I am from Cape Breton and miss the woods and ocean. I went to Alberta then Saskatchewan through work (military) and enjoy the West. I always loved the engineering of all the Eastern and Western European full stocks, like H&K, Sterling Mannlicher, Czech, etc. The styling also pleases the eye. The same with their pistols. Great channel thank you! Chris
Regarding the sights...do you do some kind of profiling of the sight to the barrel? Something CNC? Or, maybe, emery cloth carefully wrapped around the barrel, or a proper radius rod/tube to match the barrel? I've done some work with adhesives, and 'fit' is probanly the single most important parameter, more than all the talk about roughening surfaces... amazing adhesives over the last 50 years, so many applications where they are superior to 'mechanica' attachment!
I love my Cooper but for the best American rimfire I have to go with the Winchester Model 52. I’ll also put my Anschutz up against your Styer at 100 yards…but I agree the Styer is magnificent.
Hi Jim - I'm sure Anschutz is the target king - which means fantastic in the field as well. Anschutz seems to be the make of choice for biathlon and just about everything else. Still, there is plenty of room for other manufacturers in the the vast .22 world. All the best.
G'day Mike, thanks for another great video. I have two Steyr Zephyr 2's one in 17HMR and the other in .22, I love them to bits. I believe they are nearly perfect although I would prefer a flush fitting rotary magazine. I find the magazine release very touchy and it is very easy to drop your magazine on the ground with the slightest touch. I fully understand the choice of CZ magazines as they are so common and easily obtainable but a nod to the beautiful Steyr rotary magazine would have been nice......better to carry afield too. I love the tang safety but it appears to be made of plastic and for those that don't like the stamped sheet steel trigger guard, have a look at the hideous original offering........it was a triangulated abomination in true Germanic style.
wow , I like the Steyr bolt and the express sights ... not a huge fan of that stock though , I don't abide with pressed checkering . also has a stamped trigger guard I am not crazy about .
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Probably not just for little old me , but if not you could always just make it the way you like it yourself , new bottom metal , sand and re-checker , gotta be a slick action , so it'd be worth the work . .
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Nothing this government dose makes any sense! Trudeau and his party have had scandal after scandal since he has been elected. Right now there are two separate hearings investigating #1 weather or not the PM. his privy council Bill Bair and the RCMP commissioner Brenda lucky for political interference. They wanted to release what kind of firearms the Killer of 26 people in the Nova Scotia 2020.mass murder to the media. to help with their upcoming firearms ban before the RCMP had finished their investigation as to where the killer got the weapons from. as the killer was not a legal firearms owner. The second hearing is for weather or not invoking the war measures act for the peaceful Freedom protests and convoy last February. Any way this latest gun ban is just another way for Trudeau to make Canadians pay for his incompetence and embarrassment on the world stage.
@usog I recently purchased a rifle off an old man who said it was a custom Carl gustav imperial or something like that. The only markings say Sweden model C with a number. I can’t find anything about it online. There’s two things that concern me. Is there a way I could get you pictures and you could possibly tell me what I have
The Zephyr II is definitely better than the first one. The action is offset with a curved in the stock. It comes right up for a right hander. These hammer forged barrels are more accurate than the originals. 1/2" compared to 1 and 1/2 inches.
Got to love 22 !!! Thank s for your videos. I don’t like Canada law change!!! It’s not fair to the vet’s and their family . It needs to go through their parliament. And be voted on by the people!!!
Tyrannical minds don't concern themselves with facts or truths. Keep fighting the good fight by owning all you can. Jump through all the hoops and suffer the indignities regardless. Make it known that you will not give up on your passion no matter what. For those who revel in some form of schadenfreude because they live elsewhere and feel a sort of twisted superiority just remember: THE RULING CLASS WHERE YOU LIVE HOLD YOU IN EQUAL CONTEMPT and will do the same to you when the time is right.
Hillbilly Scholar, the elite GOP in the United States realize that they cannot get the tax tax breaks and deregulation for the ultra rich, and their corporations (their true constituents) passed unless they can dupe working class American into voting against their own economic interests, so they have invented a Second Amendment crisis to fool you into voting for their politicians. The overwhelming majority of Americans find the safety laws concerning automobiles and alcohol, which, if misused could be deadly, save lives and do not significantly inconvenience anyone in their joy and passion for driving or having a tasty alcoholic beverages. That same majority merely wants the equivalent rules in place for firearms, which are designed to be deadly. Just as there’s no place on the road for top fuel dragsters, driving after drinking a 12 pack, or doing 100 mph on city streets, there is also no justification for AR style rifles in civilian hands, long gun magazines with greater than a 10 round capacity, or purchasing guns or ammo without having passed both a background check and a gun owner safety test. The average American who seeks gun control is looking for regulations no more strict than those that make our roads a safer place to drive. The nonsense you hear about “give an inch and they will take a mile!!!!!” is simply paranoid propaganda with no basis in fact or reality. It is important to remember that the purpose of safety laws is to save lives and make society more safe, and it is a nonsensical argument to rail against safety laws merely because they don’t prevent all harm or death. No hunter or recreational shooter ever needs more than 10 rounds in a rifle, unless you’re a pro hunting from a helicopter after a herd of hogs and none of you are. If you claim you need more than 10 shots, you are simply lying to yourself and what you really need is more time on the range learning how to shoot more accurately. No American in history has ever needed to have more than 10 rounds in a rifle clip to protect their home or family. If you disagree, you’re simply lying or living in a fantasy world. Hundreds of people are dead at the hands of mass murderers specifically because extended capacity magazines enabled the psychopath to shoot more people. And here’s something else that none of you proponents of AR style rifles is honest enough to admit: every single one of those mass murders who used an AR style rifle got a thrill, picking the gun up that day and felt motivated and empowered by it. It made him feel like he was some sort of G.I. Joe military action figure hero about to take out the bad guys. No one in history has ever felt that way holding a beautiful Steyr rifle like the one featured in this video or a Weatherby Mark V with a high-grade Clara walnut stock. Have you ever been around any of the actual elites that you claim tohate? I actually have been with a group of old money, GOP types and they laugh at how easy it is to dupe the gun nuts into voting against their own economic interests based on the silly paranoia over gun control. But you’d rather be a boastful manly man protecting gun rights!!, than acknowledge that you are treated as a dope by those who want your vote
Ahhhh so many rifles, so little time. My CZ 452 is now my go to hunting rifle, but I’m still looking for a reasonable priced target rifle. Thanks for reading this stuff about the gun ban. Many people are pro hunting rifles, but not not so many handguns, or "tactical"guns. As for people, my city has the same number of people as Chicago, and we’re going that way. If you look at what’s still available, it’s expensive guns, like the Tavor, are still non restricted! So the rich can still get guns, but the poor, who live with gangs, who will suffer. All so they can get votes.
@@tdbright340 And there’s the rub, eh? Same as with economic topics, they keep hearing they’ll be taken care of, but it’s a trap. I know, I was stuck in that for a while. It’s tough to get out. But I think many of the indoctrinated college people are anti gun. They’re the worst.
Hi JB - That's a favorite of mine - with either sub sonic or standard - a dream to shoot and target rifle accurate. Have not tried it suppressed - but I can imagine it would be very quiet - a .300 Whisper : )
Yes the current gov't in Canada is on the warpath against legal firearms owners. All the while gang violence with illegally obtained handguns is on the increase in major cities. Anyhow, I'm surprised you didn't have an Anschütz .22 on the table for this presentation. Perhaps they haven't brought out anything new recently (that's a guess) but why would they need to? They've been top quality .22 manufacturers for a long time. There's a good reason many biathletes carry Anschütz rifles in competition. One more thing if I may. Your wall rack catches my attention on every video. I made myself one a few years ago & in researching designs I came across a photo of a rack on the wall of my Dad's Uncle. Before seeing that I had every intention of placing the firearms just like you have, right side up. Guess what? The rifles on Dad's Uncle's rack were all placed triggers up actions down. I reckon either way works but I've decided to place mine like Dad's Uncle did. With the notch above the pistol grip resting on one side it makes for a more balanced view with almost equal amounts of barrel & stock projecting out either side. ;)
Hey Mike, thank you again for chiming in on behalf of us Canadian gun owners. The comment by Canadian Guy pretty much sums it up. Non gun owners will wake up one day and find that the Liberals have decided to take their bank accounts for whatever reason tickles their fancy. At one point in time I had respect for All political parties but not so much anymore. Mike I appreciate every video you produce keep it up. I would like to try Patreon one day just need to get it done.
pretty much we get to keep the handgun we currently own, not allow to transfer anymore so imagine you are a gun loving international student all the sudden you got a couple grand worth of assets you cant really get rid off legally after you finish off study. that's why I tell new shooters to only buy guns they intend to own for a while and not for"investment"
Yes you can keep them all. They eat little and take little space. It appears many think about what they sold more than what they kept. Life is mean so follow your heart and not short term necessity. Remember that this to shall pass therefore stand your ground.
Poetic truths my friend. You're right - there is no reason to sell; only sentiment to sell. In the end - we all face rule 303. Ozymandias BY PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is OzymandiasOzymandias Pharaoh Rameses II (reigned 1279-1213 BCE). According to the OED, the statue was once 57 feet tall., King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.” Source: Shelley’s Poetry and Prose (1977)
The Zephyr II is twice as accurate as the original. The stocks are all offset. These are true field rifles finished flat black in order to blend into the background.
Mike, I'm praying for you Canucks! There is absolutely no sense in some tyrant banning guns there. May you all be blessed and regain your full gun rights. Otherwise, I hope the tyrant doesn't like his tea!
Beautiful 22 would love to have a few in different calibers. My opinion is There's a reason countries are trying to remove guns and its not good at all. Free men don't ask for permission, I'm keeping every tool that goes Pew Pew and then pass them down to my children and grandchildren because they might need to use them. You have some very nice weapons 👍 and I'm jealous 🤠.
The new laws in Canada are just really absurd. Of all the countries with „gun control“, I think Austria still has the best laws. Everyone over 18 can buy manually repeating rifles or shotguns as long as they have no weapons ban. (That’s category C guns) And everyone over 21 can get a license (which only takes a psych test and a 2 hour course) to buy handguns and semi auto rifles or shotguns. (That’s category B guns) The number of category C isn’t capped, so you can get as many of them as you want. The number of how many category B guns you can have is initially capped at 2, but they legally have to expand it if you have a good reason why you need more guns. Otherwise they will expand it to 5 guns once 5 years have passed. If you want them to instead expand it to 10 guns, you need to be member of a shooting club. Then they will increase it to 10 and you will automatically be allowed to get two more category B guns every 5 years. And we have mandatory safe storage. For category C guns it’s already enough to keep them in a locked room or home as long as no minors or banned persons can enter it. But category B guns need to be kept in a safe. I think that’s quite reasonable. A thing that’s not very nice is that we now have Magazine regulations. Pistols are limited to 20 rounds and semi automatic rifles are limited to 10 rounds. But rimfire rifles are exempt from that, so you can get 100 round 22lr mags (tough I am not aware of any 100 round 22lr mags for any commonly owned gun existing) Also people with an active hunting card can buy silencers without any restrictions. I still think it’s stupid to limit silencers to hunters as I think the hearing of other people also deserves to be protected, but it’s better than nothing. I am set to get my license next month and intend get a G44 as a birthday gift to myself. But in the long term I intend to get registered as a collector, as that will relieve me of the limits of how many category B guns I can own as long as I only own guns which fit into the topic my collection is registered as.
@@canadianguy1955 , Sadly Canada is now turning into a Commie Country.... With now a King n Dictator .....
@canadianguy1955 @UnitedStatesOfGuns I think you hit the nail on the head when you said:
"We are an easy scapegoat. It's easy votes for them in large city centers which makes up the majority of their seats in the house of commons. And only effects a group of people who for the most part do not vote for them."
They are passing these laws because it actually *increases* votes for them.
Highest quality rifles; and not so easy to find. Good on you for finding and investing in these precious rifles. Gold or guns. Good shooting!
Mike,
I, for one, very much appreciate your humility. You keep it simple with the firearm as the focal point. After all, they are the stars of the show.
Cheers,
Marc
Hi Marc and thank you - hopefully there will be a few stars left after the crush.
Thank you for the Videos ..i look at them nearly each day..My favorite are the 22 videos... especially vintage 22 rifles...!
Hi James - You'll like a coming video on a couple of very special rifles. Thanks for the note and all the best.
The Zephyr II would be a beautiful rifle if it was polished blue. Interesting that only Japan is still able to produce highly polished blued finishes at decent prices.
A beautiful unique stock on that rifle.
We have the measure 114 going on in oregon so I know exactly what your going through! Hopefully things will get better for responsible gun owners
I really like how you see and put things, it's truly refreshing and I find your knowledge on guns is top notch. Thanks for your channel. ♥
Thank you Jade. I try : )
The omission of iron sights has always been a point of frustration but thanks to this video I learned that they can be installed using Loctite. Thanks for the advice.
I’ve not met one in person but I have wanted to handle one since the first advert I saw. Looks very nice!
Hi William - I hope you find and buy one - they're actually not that expensive considering what one gets.
I have to say that I'm really impressed with mine chambered in .17 HMR😊
My first group at 100 yards (scoped and off a rest) surprised me with a .54" five shot group. They opened up as the barrel and full length stock heated up. Such a beautiful piece of work. Sadly, they're no longer available in North America. I appreciate your channel, we share a lot of the same rifles.
Glad you purchased when you did - amazing accuracy that's routine for these. Also happy that you're on the channel. Take good care.
That Steyr is so well done, I love the looks of it and apparently it's a shooter as well. I always look forward to your videos Mike. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Petro : )
Pretty darn good group !
Match grade .22 ammo would be fun to try several brands , every time I do that it takes half a day to get the data but it’s fun !
Well done on the great video and the new rifle. It looks great, what nice timber on it.
Thank you KDM
What a fine quality made firearm this model is ! I like a rifle like this model !
Another great presentation, Sir. And, again, helped me discover a stunning little rifle. Came across on in 17HMR. Will think about it as the Steyr are really nice guns.
Thanks!
Great video! I really like the inclusion of random gadget info. The plug satisfies curiosity and tools arguably necessary in our hobby.
Thank you TF
Very nice 22 lr .
Mike we need you as our next Prime Minister.
Steyrs in generally are very pretty firearms from the dark blueing to their selection of wood.
This Zephyr II is no exception :)
I have never met a CZ 452 that was not accurate, but not as pretty (not even close) as the Zephyr.
Kimber of Yonkers another fine looking 22 and pretty accurate too.
Impressive production/channel you have and informative .
Thank You.
The fish scale checkering of the stock on the Zephyr is unique for a factory gun.
Thank you for writing! Yes, I've heard of Anschutz and CZ - both fantastic. Your purchase is excellent - also the Krico - no longer made - is superb.
Half of you Canadians are down here in Florida now clogging up the roads. Lol
At least they’re consistent every year
Have a good evening Mike!!
Steyr USA in Alabama is great to work with if parts are ever needed. Especially magazines.
Great dialect.very intelligent and always useful info.i agree with you all bolt action rifles should come with sights
Cost savings aaagghh
I don't buy and sell I buy and shoot just a few .mainly Winchester 54s these days.excellent rifles for the money .calibers mainly 270s and 06s.another great value as you've pointed out is the Husqvarna 46.in my humble opinion the best bolt action for the money.
You should have picked a single woman and married her.
The BSA Scorpion pistol on the rack behind you!👊
Nice wood on that one! fish scale checkering is different but a nice change.
Hi John - I missed buying one but my Made in China BRNOs are exceptional. I'll look for a NS22 - thanks for mentioning.
i hesitated for so long between the zephyr II and the anschutz 1761 a couple weeks ago. I went with the 1761 and i dont regret accuracy-wise but i must admit, the steyr wins the beauty contest...!
That's a great choice. Anschutz is superb - as you know. Good shooting and all the best for 2023!
That, is a beautiful rifle . It's got perfect flow .
Good wording Rod - super fine rifle.
The Zephyr II I am buying as Browning T Bolts I have BOUGHT AND PAID for seem to not even have a delivery date. Mine I am buying in 22 LR.
My Dad had Tyrol 22. He lent it to someone and it was never returned, I believe a de lux model of the late 1950’s
Looks just like my Steyr CL2, except I have mine thread for a moderator (.243)
I kept the rear blade sight on!
Just close to camera , I own that Zephyr average in size
It is not a large rifle. And the weight is light. But it has a nice barrel length and feel of a large rifle if you want to gain cheap shooting training for a larger caliber rifle.
As for here in Kanada, if more gun owners said come and get them this would stop the govt in its tracks because even arrogant govt enforcer thugs would not wish to face harm, and the leftist politicians would have public relations problems with spilling the blood of even their most hated subjects.
Zephyr's quite nice. Thanks for the vids
Love that they used a cz magazine. They are super reliable and the 10 rounders are cheap and plentiful.
Hi Jeff - Great feature...among all the other great features : )
I'm surprised by how far forward he placed the rear sight. I thought the longer the sight radius the better, but I know this guy knows what he's doing.
Anschutz 1710 D KL Meister grade sporter.
Great choice
Great video, always liked Steyr. Greetings from somewhere in the Canadian prairies. Chris
Chris
I've always been a fan of you and your presentations but this one was next level. Great job ...great rifle too by the way. Lol
Thank you Joshua
Bought one from a cdn vendor during Black Friday sale two days ago.
How does these compare to Anschutz 22lr
Maybe they'll change 👍
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Probably not just for little old me , but if not you could always just make it the way you like it yourself , new bottom metal , sand and re-checker , gotta be a slick action , so it'd be worth the work . .
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns a little home gunsmith work or as they say in Austria " einige hauseigene Büchsenmacherarbeiten "
A lot of style flourishes on that stock, I wonder how that will age, withstand the test of time. I am old and set in my ways though.
Ahhh 3ducs - I know what you mean; I think time will be kind to this rifle.
Great off hand shooting!
Galco's Safari Chin Sling is the best sling for the new Zephyr.
Thanks for your support from Canada. Now i herd they are going to ban all centerfire semi auto rifles and shotguns that will accept removable mags.
Hello Martin - This makes no sense.
Have to agree that the matt finish to the steel is disappointing as is the cheap trigger guard, however the stock is indeed beautiful.
I’m happy with my Anshutz 1516 in .22 Magnum with a Double Trigger.
That's a great rifle - no question.
That Landmann 22 reminds me an awful lot of the 30s Mauser ES 340/350 series, especially the stock. The receiver is different though.
@usog I recently purchased a rifle off an old man who said it was a custom Carl gustav imperial or something like that. The only markings say Sweden model C with a number. I can’t find anything about it online. There’s two things that concern me. Is there a way I could get you pictures and you could possibly tell me what I have
Thank You.
I have one of these, they're amazing.
Great purchase!
wow very pretty rimfires!
So, what would happen if firearms were COMPLETELY ( all parts ) manufactured IN Canada ?
The Zephyr II is definitely better than the first one. The action is offset with a curved in the stock. It comes right up for a right hander. These hammer forged barrels are more accurate than the originals. 1/2" compared to 1 and 1/2 inches.
The new Zephyr is far superior to the original Zephyr! Destined to increase in value.
I agree
Got to love 22 !!! Thank s for your videos. I don’t like Canada law change!!! It’s not fair to the vet’s and their family . It needs to go through their parliament. And be voted on by the people!!!
It's unfair to all of the citizens there!

Sigh you are right you will not let facts and data get in your way.
@@greeneyeddevil1 Is that so? I'm glad to see we have an understanding then.
The magazin is changable with CZ 455-457? Because looks like same.
I bought CZ magazines for mine and they work fine.
They’re the worst.
very nice adirondack behind you! how do you find it to use and have you shot it suppresed?
Hi JB - That's a favorite of mine - with either sub sonic or standard - a dream to shoot and target rifle accurate. Have not tried it suppressed - but I can imagine it would be very quiet - a .300 Whisper : )
What’s the sweet combo gun on the wall?
Hi John - That's a BRNO 12 x .22 Savage High Power - wonderful rig.
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns any videos on it?
Try looking at a Anschutz 1710
Will do : ) I've owned a few but none in the vault at the moment.
I hate those plastic magazines. Been looking for a long time for a couple of steel ones!
Who are the other 3 in your sq. km.?
Hi James - Bill, Bob and Sue. : )
❣️I have a CZ Brno 452-2E . 22lr Lux❣️
Best field rifle that was (past tense) made.
With the notch above the pistol grip resting on one side it makes for a more balanced view with almost equal amounts of barrel & stock projecting out either side. ;)
Great post - I'll try the trigger up system : )
Hey Mike, thank you again for chiming in on behalf of us Canadian gun owners. The comment by Canadian Guy pretty much sums it up. Non gun owners will wake up one day and find that the Liberals have decided to take their bank accounts for whatever reason tickles their fancy. At one point in time I had respect for All political parties but not so much anymore.
Mike I appreciate every video you produce keep it up. I would like to try Patreon one day just need to get it done.
Thank you Gordon. At last the state creates a jail for all citizens to cringe in fear of themselves. Such is not why we are here.
pretty much we get to keep the handgun we currently own, not allow to transfer anymore so imagine you are a gun loving international student all the sudden you got a couple grand worth of assets you cant really get rid off legally after you finish off study. that's why I tell new shooters to only buy guns they intend to own for a while and not for"investment"
Eveytine I sit and watch your videos...I have a sudden urge to get a few out and rub some oil on them.. sometimes strip and go over/clean them.
Hello Dyers - Always something interesting to do with the gun collection.
Ozymandias
BY PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is OzymandiasOzymandias Pharaoh Rameses II (reigned 1279-1213 BCE). According to the OED, the statue was once 57 feet tall., King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

The Zephyr II is twice as accurate as the original. The stocks are all offset. These are true field rifles finished flat black in order to blend into the background.

Could you do a video on the Anschutz 1710 22LR?
Hi KDM - Will do - I have to find one.
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns great thanks and keep up the good work.
Mike, I'm praying for you Canucks! There is absolutely no sense in some tyrant banning guns there. May you all be blessed and regain your full gun rights. Otherwise, I hope the tyrant doesn't like his tea!
Thank you Ron, I'm so dedicated to the rights of the people and hope reason prevails and Canadians regain their freedom.
(That’s category C guns)
And everyone over 21 can get a license (which only takes a psych test and a 2 hour course) to buy handguns and semi auto rifles or shotguns. (That’s category B guns)
The number of category C isn’t capped, so you can get as many of them as you want.
But rimfire rifles are exempt from that, so you can get 100 round 22lr mags (tough I am not aware of any 100 round 22lr mags for any commonly owned gun existing)
Also people with an active hunting card can buy silencers without any restrictions.
Thank you! Austria knows what's what with guns! Happy Birthday next month!
My 50 something eyes are rubbish but still manage to humanely harvest food all year long...hunting doesn't require long range snipers))).
So true JS
