"When faced with an apocalypse at the hand of Godlike entities, sometimes, the best respond is to pick up an M4." I'm living with this motto. This had never been more true because of the rising insurgent activities in southern part of Thailand. Where i live.
It's bad when the gun laws are just too much of an obstacle to own one. You could only own a pistol or a PCC, bolt action rifle and that's all we can legally own.
@@alexd6557 can't get a 3d printer to use to print weapons part or just weapons in general, that's illegal. I'm glad that I have my Flux brace Glock. You can't also own a body armor. The fact that worries me so much cuz it's been happening all the time, you got soldier here and there to protect but that's about it. The ROE seems reasonable on paper until it's actually used. 10:50 is where I started practicing that thing Riloe advocates for, to stop comparing things between games just because they're similar. I had the initial thought of _"oh, so like GTFO?"_ immediately followed by _"nah they're both coming from the idea of adding coding entirely, let's see what makes this one stand out"_ and *boy, does it.*
@@zed12-ui4jy In a similar vein to Beautiful Light, GTFO has you inserted in a extremely dangerous zone to complete tasks. To avoid running around with your headless chickens, you can find several terminals in which you can access to find your objective. However to utilize those terminals, you need basic understanding of command line. The game makes it self-explanatory, however if you lack familiarity with the system, what could take no more than a minute could be several minutes of waiting.
I really think this game concept looks sick as fuck. If it has a PVE only game-mode I might give it a try. PvPvE just makes me want to tenderly kiss the business end of a double-barrelled shotgun. It's one of the big reasons why I am so excited for Forever Winter. I love extraction shooters in concept, in practice, I would rather fist a woodchipper.
I was all in too, until I heard the PvP part. Sweaty players aside, if it ever becomes popular then cheats will inevitably be developed and ruin the whole experience. Hopefully they'll made a coop PvE mode, because it's a really fun sounding concept.
Maybe leave the monster players in, just exclude the other teams? Keep it less boring (also, attract good monster players from L4D era starved for things to play)
@@AtaeHone I absolutely think that if they do that, it should be an optional mode. Because on one hand, that sounds insanely fun. On the other hand, I could see it getting pretty toxic like Dead By Daylight or (can't believe I'm saying this) Evolve.
hope you can type "rm -rf --no-preserve-root /" once you're done to grief other players or make a script on the machine to automate puzzles/hacking others (would be so fast with macros)
I've been following the game for nearly a year and have been a big fan of the idea of finally making an SCP inspired game that looks and plays well (no offense, Secret Laboratory). Initially I've been off-put by the asymmetrical PvP bashed with horde PvE. In my opinion asymmetrical PvP rarely ever allows enjoyable gameplay in a competitive environment (full offense, DbD), and the tactical, slow, silent attitude you'd expect from these geared out Operators was thrown out the window with the bullet fodder horde enemies. To me it felt like it tried to modernize hunt, but throw away all hunt does good with it's clunky and slow, hit-or-miss weapons with generic automatic ARs that are an antithesis to that gameplay loop as a whole. However now I realise I'm completely wrong, in fact, the game has been developing my dream exfil shooter I've been thinking of ever since Cycle: Frontier shutdown and Marathon got announced; To me, the Exfil Shooter is the Thriller genre of games, it shouldn't have an express intention to convey FPS gameplay, the idea is to infiltrate and exfiltrate with a target of value, the thrill factor should never die down during a raid, and so the farthest you got should always be the peak, the worst-case goal is to have done your actions instead of having survived. The game, despite being PvP with player freedom, should subconsciously lead the player through a semi-scripted scenario similar to a conventional story game, it should funnel players in such a way to provide encounters pre-calculated to guarantee fun, Cycle: Frontier did this well with it's preset locations for events and extracts combined with its stylized and exaggerated geography, it's also why an asymmetrical yet linear PvP game like L4D2 Versus works much better than a comparatively open game like DbD. Each run should be split into stages to ensure proper encounters, in Tarkov terms, the end-of-raid fight should not be a triple R RRRAT pointing a shotgun to the entrance of Gate 3; it should be a patrol of players outside D2; The pocket watch in the tanker should not have 50 sniper spots looking at it, it should just be a general hot-spot; Factory spawn locations should not be memorized, factory should just be full of players by default (this also leads to the chore-ification of games and why wipes are so wide-spread not only as an update cycle, but also as the core of games as we've seen in BRs prior or newer game ideas now *wink*Forever Winter*wink*). And it seems Beautiful Light tackles this just perfectly, It funnels players into predictable progression scenarios through its usage of 'sound trap' enemies, territorial anomalies and initmidating player monsters, it layers its maps and method of exfiltration in a way a singleplayer mission would. It finds a way to perfectly convey that "SCP Operator" feel many have been yearning for ever since those masterful shortfilms, it places emphasis on puzzles and problem solving in order to get the 'trophy' target and places PvP at a moment of a 'when' instead of an 'if'. Games like Tarkov have been banking on that latter half for too long, owing half their gameplay to player psychology, causing experienced players to get jaded and easily grow tired of late-wipes (we're touching on that chore-ification again!). It properly embodies the Thriller genre and the goal of the character in lore by placing PvP and other expected fight encounters as a reaction to your action as expected through scripted linear and ultimately satisfying storytelling instead of an open world free for all completely at the mercy of its players and how much they care for immersion. The PvPvE genre, no matter how you put it, ultimately has the PvE tag on it, and so by extent, developers should not be limited to the status quo of PvP interactions to base their game around, even in PvE interactions, many other games force their E enemies to be as reallistically as a P as they can be when other PvE games can have the E be beyond just a recognizable enemy character but also the environment, the game, the god, the rules, the interactions, etc. And so by extent I hope the Beautiful Light team can properly convey their concepts and themes; without drowning under the hell that is balancing not only Hardcore PvP but also their numerous different styles of PvE interactions. Ykno ultimately all this constantly reminds me of GTFO and how I'll never forgive myself for STILL not having given that game a shot...
It was a long but enjoyable read. We hope we manage to meet your expectations for Beautiful Light, we're trying to make something unique but familiar and bring a game that people didn't know they wanted but will love. We're doing our best, we're trying to do as much as we can, and although we don't have the budget and resources of a big, experienced studio, we can promise you that we'll do our best to make it the best game possible. We'll make mistakes, that's for sure, and we hope the game will be good enough for the community to help us when things go wrong. Because getting it wrong isn't an “if” but a “when” ;)
Dude. GTFO is absolutely worth your time. For me it's one of those rare games where the ludonarrative and the story interlock to produce the real, meaningful terror and stress for the player, and it constantly reminds players to play as a team because if you don't you're all going to die. GTFO is one of the best games of the last decade. You should definitely play it.

With the hacking mechanic, imagine groups of mercs hiring dedicated hackers in the discord and then having them on the computer as they do the mission, like some mission impossible scene
well if this becomes the case i am not buying the game, i dont think you notice how many people really find its a bad idea that hacking using actual linux knowledge ingame gives you a advantage, most people like me are not knowledgeable in this field, My ass for example works at a shipyard, I know old HTML, as i used to be on myspace when that was still up and linkdin, But python? like most people i dont know a thing about it, You cant teach a old dog new tricks either, So its unlikely i will ever learn it even when pushed to do so by the game.
@@arecorder.1382 yeah i honestly doubt it, i think this game is honestly dead in the water man, if i was the dev team i would make it into a american version of stalker, minus the coding, idea is cool, just in action its horrible as this caters to a niche community which are the coders.
@@valyshknee4203 "Dead in the water" is objectively obscene when the core complaint is the presence of coding. Riloe even went over why it doesn't even make that big of a difference. Perhaps some greater intel for the team that has someone who can use it, but that also means one less gun and perspective in a firefight and a sitting duck for anyone who slips through the gaps. It's not like you need to be able to do it to pass a tutorial or something.
"And through the fog came a dim, flickering light, then a second, and a third, and many more came forth, and the world watched as they stood and as they fell. With each fading light, the world would shift its gaze upon another, and its weight was felt. And they would stand - as more would fall, by others or on their own. And from the mask the world asked "Why?" If not for us, then who would try?" I cannot remember where i've heard this, and it's paraphrased to hell and back, but i don't think i could find a better subject to mention it outside of war
So basically, another game with cool gunplay and amazing environment that I won't get to enjoy because it's an extraction shooter and thus invariably filled with people chasing a meta who want to win at no cost. Great.
love the objective driven gameplay loop similar to GTFO and Hunt, atmosphere and hazardous environments of STALKER which employ players to choose their own paths, versus mode of L4D or Evolve, and the Tactical Milsim RPG elements of Tarkov. that hands-on hacking terminal is a cool tool, a leverage in exchange of risk that offers players choice and environmental interaction that gives advantages w/ map knowledge or situational awareness. devs you crazy 😂 overall these gameplay mechanics will offer a finite replayability which is engaging and more driven. since nowadays, mix genres are what kept games enticing. its derivative, yet still offer a refreshing unique experience similar to HD2. sums up Beautiful Light is *THE* extract shooter set in STALKER we've been waiting for based on its atmosphere, factions, gunplay, and anomalies.
The problem I have with this game is like with every game, youtubers will make tutorials, everyone will use 3rd party websites to look up commands, game will be SUPER fun when it releases, but the longer it will go on, the more meta gaming there will be. I hope I'm wrong tho...
I mean, it's probably one of these things where it comes down to the player. Someone that just wants to play an extraction shooter probably won't really bother with the hacking unless forced to, as, to the average player, it's likely not as exciting as shooting guns at monsters and just rushing through a mission blasting everything that moves. And that is the majority of any potential player base, the people that have no Mic, and just want to kill an hour or two. Meanwhile, someone that actually sinks their teeth into it can actually get some real use out of that feature. Sure, many will likely get their commands from a third-party website, but, unless they literally have it on a cheat sheet, those that actually know what they are doing will still be at an advantage, since they can just type in the necessary commands themselves, rather than have to look through a "cheat sheet" to find the one they need, which, depending on how many different functions we're talking about, will take a bit to look though.
@@moriskurth628 there are to many factors to this shit, maybe people will make ai websites to just tell you what to and such, maybe they will have sheets with commands who knows, all I know is my region which is EU is pure meta gaming and tryharding, so I will either play mostly NA servers or not play so much after all.
@@CeceNomad Guides, tutorials and teaching? You mean... Like a QRF operator who stakes their life on being able to complete a mission might want? I don't see this MinMax'ing as an issue. It's natural and becomes part of the game as people learn to use every advantage to live.

The explicitly Unix-like interface is an interesting touch too. Probably more accessible than powershell "This looks like a job for me"
I'm not sure this video showed anything more complicated than GTFO's terminal. Even the cat command shown has -f added which is presumably meant to allow for searching without piping to grep or something. I'd be shocked if we can write even very basic scripts.
@@cburn-YT Yeah, but think about how much work adding a full CLI to a game is. If it's going to be fully featured you would expect to see signs of that in the gameplay already, especially if it's a selling point.
@@Arctem I imagine having the ability to write your own micro-scripts that you can carry with you into a round would add a lot of cool layers to the gameplay loop. Imagine selling your services as a hacker and all you are doing is carrying a USB into the mission with a script on it for pay, and then the adrenaline associated with the fact you could die and suddenly your proprietary script is now in the hands of someone else. I imagine thats *not* how it will be work at all, but the idea alone is intriguing from a gameplay perspective.

I think it's that sense of utter chaos and lost hope, when the walls come crashing down, and the hell outside breaks through to the heaven inside. That's what give such a strong emotional reaction to the trope of walled cities.
Great video! I hope they incorporate more of that cosmic/anomaly aesthetic and gameplay so it doesn't end up being like most others extraction shooters and just has some sprinkled in here and there. Bring on the cosmic horrors!!

This seems so extremely ambitious. I would love a tense action game that I could brush up on unix with. I think these devs are going to need more money if they ever want to finish this game… thank you for shining a light on it
Well, according to the test videos that have been popping up on the Interwebs for the past year or two, most of this has already been implemented, so the question shouldn't be "can it be done" (it already was), but "can they keep it up by making new maps at an appreciable pace", like the transition of an upstart rock band cherrypicking their ten least worst songs into a debut album having to put out a second one a year or less later.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again - no other channel on this platform puts as much effort, care and love in making videos about games. Thank you for the hard work, Riloe. You're the best.
Why does it have to be boring? Tarkov is the only extraction shooter I can even think of that is extremely sweaty and boring? Must be a taste thing because I love Hunt Showdown and Forever Winter and both are extraction "shooters"
So, it is escape from tarkov but in Stalker Zones? Sounds interesting, but the PVP-Part was the part in which I dropped out. Not for me. The hacking mechanic is maybe unique in a pvp game. But a similar one was included in that one extraction game, in which you play as a prison inmate and are send down a huge compound. Sorry, I totally forgot the name ^^

I love these games' aesthetics and gameplay but Ive grown very soir on pvp as it just stresses me out in all the wrong ways. And some of these games have such an atmosphere I wish I could enjoy them without having to worry about being sniped randomly by some dude who clocks in hundreds of hours and knows the maps like the back of his hand.
Op is one of "those" people, there is NOTHING worse than making a video about a game without mentioning the NAME in the TITLE or at Least in Description below.
"If no-one else does this, no-one ever will." What a beautiful way to summarize their game development. It parallels the QRF well. If the QRF doesn't do this job, who else will? Very good video essay, well done.

1 thing: GZW was exactly what anyone who was paying attention at the time knew it was gonna be, and I feel many people actively chose to expect more than was realistic. But to answer your second question, I pretty much talk about whatever I happen to find interesting at a given time. In the future that will surely be long-released games, as there are many I’ve played and loved over the years!
THIS REMIND ME SO MUCH OF STALKER but this time its the opposite where humanity lived in a walled city and artifact is the single energy source to make sure the walled in city survival since civilians lived in inside the walls.... and the problem is not only one city that survived the whole apocalyptic event multiple cities survived but all of them need artifact to ensure the humanity survival and a way to prevent human race extinction it is sad and irony that these walled in city are fighting for their survival by sending these different factions of brave survivors to fight for the artifact but not only just that is the problem because there is something lurk in these post apocalyptic world POI as there were some nature deadliest hunters waiting to hunt you down.... not just from enemy faction but mother nature also join in the fray fight for artifact. You would need a designated hacker in GTFO? (I don't know what that is)
@@zed12-ui4jy In a similar vein to Beautiful Light, GTFO has you inserted in a extremely dangerous zone to complete tasks.
Same, love the concept, but not sure I'm cut out to be a sweatlord anymore. When I was younger pvp was much easier to swallow.

That intro and description went unbelievably hard.
However now I realise I'm completely wrong, in fact, the game has been developing my dream exfil shooter I've been thinking of ever since Cycle: Frontier shutdown and Marathon got announced;
To me, the Exfil Shooter is the Thriller genre of games, it shouldn't have an express intention to convey FPS gameplay, the idea is to infiltrate and exfiltrate with a target of value, the thrill factor should never die down during a raid, and so the farthest you got should always be the peak, the worst-case goal is to have done your actions instead of having survived.
I played once human and it's awesome. I wish this is better.

With the hacking mechanic, imagine groups of mercs hiring dedicated hackers in the discord and then having them on the computer as they do the mission, like some mission impossible scene
Oh man imagine the esport tournaments, just gaming groups straight up hiring coders
well if this becomes the case i am not buying the game, i dont think you notice how many people really find its a bad idea that hacking using actual linux knowledge ingame gives you a advantage, most people like me are not knowledgeable in this field, My ass for example works at a shipyard, I know old HTML, as i used to be on myspace when that was still up and linkdin, But python? like most people i dont know a thing about it, You cant teach a old dog new tricks either, So its unlikely i will ever learn it even when pushed to do so by the game.

@@valyshknee4203 "Dead in the water" is objectively obscene when the core complaint is the presence of coding. Riloe even went over why it doesn't even make that big of a difference. So basically, another game with cool gunplay and amazing environment that I won't get to enjoy because it's an extraction shooter and thus invariably filled with people chasing a meta who want to win at no cost. Great.
love the objective driven gameplay loop similar to GTFO and Hunt, atmosphere and hazardous environments of STALKER which employ players to choose their own paths, versus mode of L4D or Evolve, and the Tactical Milsim RPG elements of Tarkov.
that hands-on hacking terminal is a cool tool, a leverage in exchange of risk that offers players choice and environmental interaction that gives advantages w/ map knowledge or situational awareness. devs you crazy 😂
overall these gameplay mechanics will offer a finite replayability which is engaging and more driven. since nowadays, mix genres are what kept games enticing. its derivative, yet still offer a refreshing unique experience similar to HD2. sums up Beautiful Light is *THE* extract shooter set in STALKER we've been waiting for based on its atmosphere, factions, gunplay, and anomalies.
the weapon fumble effect is BADASS
FF: Spirits Within is a deep cut. One of the only films I simultaneously love and can't stand.
Noice. Glad to see someone else shares my inner conflict over that strange cracked gem.
21:18 This reminds me of a quote I will now not quite correctly remember, but still love: "There is nobility in the struggle."
The problem I have with this game is like with every game, youtubers will make tutorials, everyone will use 3rd party websites to look up commands, game will be SUPER fun when it releases, but the longer it will go on, the more meta gaming there will be. I hope I'm wrong tho...
One of the reasons why humanity sucks
@@moriskurth628yeah like I’m going to have a physical notepad with useful commands written on it, is that cheating? 😂
@@CeceNomad Guides, tutorials and teaching? You mean... Like a QRF operator who stakes their life on being able to complete a mission might want? I don't see this MinMax'ing as an issue. It's natural and becomes part of the game as people learn to use every advantage to live.
As soon as you said there are player controlled anomalies, I am sold.

"This looks like a job for me"
I mean ultimately hacking was just poking around directories and random network branches looking for shit, right?
I'm not sure this video showed anything more complicated than GTFO's terminal. Even the cat command shown has -f added which is presumably meant to allow for searching without piping to grep or something. I'd be shocked if we can write even very basic scripts.
@@Arctem I mean, its also not done

@@WRZ100 also some people speak Russian in Poland. I'm not sure as of the percentage though
@@savvazotov4196 and? Still doesn't make sense for a secret government Polish base to have announcements in Russian
@@savvazotov4196 A Polish scientific base having Russian intercom messages wouldn't be any realistic, unless the history of the world in the game involves Poland never regaining independence from the USSR and the base being a Soviet one, just on Polish ground. Most people who lived through the PRL times were forced to learn Russian, but most of them haven't spoken it for a long time and are probably pretty rusty
I used to rely on your TikTok channel for Tarkov update news. Amazing how far you've come. This video is awesome.
