Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. They have been classified by critics as gothic metal and symphonic metal, although each album contains other influences outside these genres.

Sharon has an INCREDIBLY beautiful voice. She's just as good live as she is in studio as well. I've always thought if they hadn't wanted to do metal that her and Tarja could have done opera. She actually has a song that is a duet with Tarja.

My all-time favorite Within Temptation song. I used this as a ring tone for my mother and still think of her as I listen to it. Sharon is an incredible performer, using what I call "hand dancing" as she sings like an angel. WT was my first addiction to Symphonic Metal, and now I have multiple bands. Does that mean Within Temptation is a gateway band?? Incredible live band, I've seen them thrice, which is pretty good for a California guy - they don't get out here very often. Can't tell you how many people I have successfully introduced to metal with this song alone. So glad you covered this song ... and did it justice.
Nice reaction! Did you know Sharon is self-taught? Even more impressive because of that. I'm seeing them with Evanescence in November with my (21-yo) daughter.
I have seen this band in concert and they are amazing and will always be one of my favorite bands of all time!!

I love the symphonic metal bands that I only discovered during lockdown but Sharon and Within Temptation have become a bit of an obsession. Anything from the Black Symphony concert (with live choir and orchestra) is stunning.
Of all the metal goddesses you've reacted to, Sharon has seemingly the closest style to your own very xpressive speaking voice, Maggie. Opera discourages the kind of breathiness & tight vocal turns of phrase in the head voice that I think musical theater and soundtrack and symphonic metal tend to encourage, if only to stay above the instrumental & be understood.
"Pretty metal" indeed. This track is very Kate Bush like.

Ive been a WT fan since the first album..when they were more gothic. I agree, she should absolutely react to the Somehwere video wth Anneke...while shes at it, maybe a The Gathering or Chalice

Sharon is a goddess! I have seen them live 14 times and every time she blows me away as the first time I I saw them 27 (I'm getting old) years ago at Graspop in Dessel Belgium( best metal festival in the world)
Yeah, this is Within Temptation - they are absolutely perfect live. And Sharon is always so cute, so lovely, so warm hearted - Sharon is absolutely no Ice Queen at all. 🤷♀️😁🥰
It’s always trippy seeing these old videos because she looks EXACTLY the same. Her voice and techniques have improved a lot over the years though! Check out Let Us Burn and The Purge-you’ll be shocked at the edginess and powerful belts this woman can pull out when she wants to. In these early years she definitely became very known for her sweet, flute-like high notes and has always had just a very beautiful clear tone but she used a lot more of her chest voice now to fit the heavier music they’ve moved to and has a gorgeous rasp in her lower tone. Can still hit those high notes though!
Just 4 days to the release of their new and very epic song "Don't pray for me". The first sounds are already incredibly powerfull. Are you ready?

This song was my gateway into this band :D
Sharon goes between this type of very delicate and high head voice sound and a more mixed belt sound in her more recent records. i love WT, but may prefer her more mixed belt style of singing.
Now at age 48, birthday last week, Sharon's voice is still beautiful she has more depth with age of course... They just came out with a brand new song a week or 2 ago called don't pray for me... And we'll be restarting the tour with evanescence and we'll be spending October in North America with Iron Maiden... I shall have to find a way to see them for the 3rd time.

Man this brings me back. Used to love this band. Then saw them life, and absolutely loathed them for a while. (she was so anyoing with the thank you thank you every song) And later i started loving them again and apreciating the skills and her insane voice.
She is really beautiful and a really sweet lady! You should try them live with 'the other half of me'!

You should try a song from the Black Symphony concert (Within Temptation and Metropole Orchestra) any song will do, but may I suggest "The promise" or "The Truth beneath the rose"
Mother Earth is a great introductory choice to WT 🙂
One drawback to this official music video is that it cut out the song’s bridge. It slows down, drops out most of the instruments, and brings in a choir of male voices. I guess someone wanted to keep the video length short.
I don't know if some one saw this, but it's the same owl as in nightwish's ELAN.

Wished you had picked the Black Symphony live version of this song. There is no difference in Sharon's singing but the epic sound of the instruments is multiplied by the orchestra accompanying the band. Also, the music video is not the best as it was recorded at a time when WT were basically unknown thus reducing the visual impact. The Black Symphony visuals are more impressive imo. Anyway, always thanks a lot for doing a reaction on Within Temptation.

@@maggiereneemusic Hi I'm really into a Rock band Trio called The Warning and they are 3 sisters from Monterey Mexico. You should react to their original cover of Enter Sandman and then the new one with Alessia. They are now 22,20 and 17.
They will always be my favourite band. I'm not even going to bother recommending any because there are so many great examples. However, their more recent albums aren't as good as their earlier stuff imo.

lovely voice and video but hard to understand her words..maybe just me...
Well she was doing a lot of warbling the chorus in her head voice which is usually hard to understand however beautiful it is. I understand her perfectly in the verses. I prefer their more recent work where she’s using her mixed voice and chest voice more personally.
And I think she’s saying in the chorus “she moves until the end of time “.

I used t o love your reactions but you're becoming shadier every video, why do you put LIVE if it's not live, this is an upload and even if you did this LIVE (which is dumb ofc you did) you shouldn't upload it with live... You already did this with 3 uploads and it's really sad....
