Before Honda took over, We Tomorrowland Cast Members would have our own Halloween Party after hours, One of the things we did was called Hauntopia. Cast Members who had Autopia Knowledge would volunteer to work as monsters that night and hide out on the track and scare fellow Cast Members as they drove by. It was an elaborate set up, I did the makeup every year and we had a huge makeup crew, many who did makeup for Knott's Halloween Haunt.
I have an awesome memory of riding autopia as a child and then immediately riding the boats that used to be next to it and thinking this is the best day of my life. I was like 5 or 6 and I got to “drive” a car and boat in one day. Lol
Fun fact, Hong Kong's Autopia had electric vehicles due to their emissions standards. Their railroad is powered by steam-outline locomotives (diesel locomotives with the appearance of steam locomotives) because of those standards too. Their Autopia closed to make way for Marvel

Fun video! Here's my story. I was a cast member from '69 to '74 and often worked the Autopia. (We called it "TA" for Tomorrowland Autopia, or "FA" for Fantasyland.) One position during our rotation was called "back bridge" as we were stationed back in the roadway near a bridge, quite a ways from the loading area. The main purpose was to make sure people didn't stop and get out of a car, or light up a cigarette (or something else), that type of thing. Because of this duty, we did not have a radio. One day one of the engines caught fire. I don't think this had ever happened, at least not to my knowledge. We were not trained for this, but I used my head a bit. I got the people out of that car as quickly as we could, and just to be safe, also the 10 cars behind. The cars are made of fiberglass (the model VII) and the one was blazing away. I was afraid adjacent cars would catch fire too. I had the people stand back, under a tree. As I didn't have a radio, I could only wait until they figured out something was wrong when no cars were coming in. Actually, I think a Monorail driver saw the flames and called it in. Finally, the fire guys and security came out and took over. To my relief no one was hurt, and I think many of the guests thought it was quite an unexpected adventure. BTW, this was on "TA" I think my "thanks" was a pat on the back; maybe not even that!
My boyfriend, his siblings, and I were actually in front of you in line. You complimented our custom converse. It was so nice talking to you and getting to watch you film some of this. Also, very cool to see ourselves in the background of your video. It helped make my boyfriend’s siblings first trip to Disneyland a little more magical!
I love this ride. It helped teach my wife to drive, by letting her get comfortable behind the wheel and driving with other drivers on the road. She came from the Philippines, where traffic is really bad. Because, that made her afraid, she had never driven before...Thank You Autopia.
Chris, I am a believer again lol. I'm always a fan of keeping opening day attractions. I always learn something from your videos, like the submarines go under Autopia. The beetle looking ones are called Suzies, the off road vehicle ones are called Dusties, and the sports car ones are called Sparkies! These names came from an old incarnation of the ride that starred those characters!
I think autopia still works for the futuristic theme. After all, driving cars is the future of the children riding! I do think it would be interesting if they re-themed it! Maybe make it on the moon or something.

When Chevron was sponsoring the attraction, there was a VIP Lounge that was on the bottom floor of the rotunda on the side facing the exit. It was a nice air conditioned room with luxurious couches, a big screen TV and a small refrigerator so Chevron Executives could go take a break if hanging out in the park for a day.
I love Autopia for the nostalgia factor; used to drive my dad around a lot - what kid doesn't want that kind of control? Miles and I have similar priorities.
Autopia has a rich and wonderful history, but it is beyond dated and fills its very large section of the park with toxic fumes and noise. It needs to be upgraded to electric or removed.
Love this ride so much! I rode Autopia during the nighttime last year for the first time and it was incredible. Bob Gurr is my favorite Disney Imagineer and I know about his creation of the vehicles in Disneyland so well.
Just watched this video. 116 days till we leave for 4 days at the mouse. Just made our reservations. Your video was great. I was there in 1978 as a kid and loved the cars. It made a real i.pression on me as back then the colors were limited and I always associate a certain shade of yellow with the ride. I rarely see that color any more and I miss it. On a side note, I. Sure you know by now but yes, WDW has an auto tibia. I used to have a postcard of the ride there. I recently went looking for it because it was always my favorite thing to pull out when I wanted to hint that I wanted to go to Disneyland. When I took my daughter in 2018, Autotopia and Small World were closed and I was totally bummed. But we did get to see the shows.
We saw a car with the license plate the read " RUSH74" Clearly a tribute to the band Rush. Because Rush put out their first album in 1974. And it was on a red car. A tribute to the Rush song "Red Barchetta " Someone who works for Disney must be a huge Rush fan.

took my 3 year old for the first time a few months ago, and yeah he totally digged Autopia because he got to drive. Best of all, he totally was fine with being in line (except for wanting to be held/climbing all over everything but no cranky "I wanna do it nowwwwwww!"
Back in early 2000s (probably 2003-5) The driver license they gave out 1 in about 200 or so would have a special gift and you would get it at the store at the end of the ride. It was one of the cars with two riders in it with Mickey hats on. I rode this ride all day crossing my fingers to get that special license and finally did. I still have the car to this day :)
Use to be one of my favorite rides, Haunted Mansion has always been my favorite. When I worked the Trains in the 80's I got to drive an Autopia car through the park to the back. That was a once in a life time kinda thing. I would love to get my hands on an old one and put a motorcycle motor in it.
The first time I rode Autopia as an adult my vehicle stalled in the middle of the track. It took 3 different cast members to get the vehicle started again. I felt so bad for the people stuck behind me!🙈
Why would anyone get rid of autopia 😠🤯🤯🤯I barely knew anything when I went to Disneyland and didn’t know about autopia so I didn’t ride it but now that I know about I want to ride it so badly. DONT TAKE IT AWAY!
The two things I don't like about Autopia is that the pedal takes so much strength to push and on a hot day you get scorched. I have a picture of me in a blue car from over 45 years ago. I love the GREEN cars though..green is good. Who was with Miles in the car? He is getting so big and he should have his own channel called GROWING UP DISNEY!!! I love your video and enthusiasm but... If not remove altogether, they should do a major remodel of it. Feels like something old in a park that's supposed to be cutting edge. Make them ride smoother
Fun fact - the paint on each car is an actual Honda color. I don’t know all the names but, some of the colors included are Sebring Silver and Imola Orange (found in the S2000 and NSX).
It’d be awesome if you could do a video for people with braces at Disney. With diet restrictions, sore teeth making it hard to eat chewy things like meat, and cleaning the braces; it can makes eating there seem overwhelming. Any tips and suggestions would help.

when ever I'm on this ride I text and drive, I love Autopia but they should update it to electric cars because most people get dizzy or fell like their about to Code V with the dissel fumes coming out of there when they walk by it
Rode it twice yesterday. First car had zero steering ability--so they let us ride again without having to go back in line. 2nd car had no acceleration, even with pedal to the floor. Honda is a good car maker, but Honda and Disney need to service their danged Autopia Hondas.

Autopia should be decorated at Halloween to become a drive through a haunted forest, and at Christmastime to become a winter wonderland drive.

When I was growing up the line was always at least 45 minutes long. Now it’s usually 5 minutes! CrAzy!

I don’t necessarily think they should get rid of Autopia all together, but it definitely needs a good makeover/ update.
Do love Autopia, but if it's going to survive then some alternate fuel sources should be introduced...something to make it more green.

I remember always having the cars with eyes doing silly things in videos when i was young while in line!!
As an adult who still can't drive, this has become one of my top favorites rides in Disneyland.
I remember when the that little Star Wars museum was the main attraction of Tomorrowland and we could see awesomo
