As far as Scot knew, the plan was for him and Tai to use the super idol on whichever of them the majority targeted. He didn’t know that Tai had voted for him, and having done so, Tai couldn’t have formed the super idol had he wanted to. He was tied with Aubry and everyone would have jumped on him in the event of a vote-off between the two of them.
However, if Scot had played his idol before the votes were read, as Jason suggested, Tai would have had no choice but to play his idol too, to avoid that same tie-breaker. Then Aubry is gone, and Scot and Tai both survive, though they’re down two idols. It would have been exactly the same situation as Scot had expected if they’d done the super idol thing. Actually it would have been even better for them, because they’d both have been safe if the majority had decided to go for a 3-3-3 split, while the super idol still would have seen one of their alliance eliminated in that situation-all of this assuming that Tai’s still loyal, which, remember, is what Scot believes.
Had he listened to Jason, Scot would have lived to see morning. The only reason for not playing the idol the old-fashioned way would have been for drama’s sake. And yes, a super idol play would have been exciting, but you can make quite a splash playing two regular idols at once too: Think of Malcolm, Eddie, and Reynold taking down Philip, or even Parvati not wanting to be depressed watching green bananas turn yellow.

If Tai and Scot played the Super Idol, and if Tai voted for Aubry that night, then she would’ve gone home. But Tai betrayed both Jason and Scot, sending Scot home with Jason’s idol still in his pocket

This wasn't a betrayal, it was a heroic move by Tai taking the "Villains" of the game down. It was reminisant of a Batman or Spiderman or Superman stopping the bad guys! It doesn't mean that Scot or Jason is bad in real life but in that game of survivor that was their role!

Poor Scot; I think this is what destroyed Tai's game
