I started the flylady system over a decade ago and finally did a home blessing this way two weeks in a row thanks to your video. I have 7 kids at home, I gave them all one chore, set the timer for 20 minutes and sent them flying, I supervise and help the littlest. The kids loved it and look forward to it each week now. And my house is so much cleaner.

@@TheSecretSlob I love your videos!!! I’ve subscribed and been watching! With watching your and your sisters videos it’s helping me to clean and organize my home. I am also cooking healthy food and eating from home. Please know that your children and husband will appreciate your clean home and home cooked meals! They will also help you clean their home when they are a little older and you train them. I love the fact that the commenter above taught her children how to bless their home weekly! How proud of themselves they all must be! If everyone helps it’s so much funner and FASTER! I love, love, love that you are no longer trying to be perfect and are NOT turning into a stepford wife and mom! You realize your husband is going to leave stuff out and that you are going to have crumbs and toys on the floor...and that’s perfectly OK. My biggest issue is when ONE person changes THEIR HABITS even to great habits a as bd expects everyone else to change immediately! Whether it’s cleaning, eating healthy, exercising, etc.
With that being said, they are watching you and learning how nice it could be with less stress and seeing how happy you are!!! You absolutely shine thru these videos! Thank you for all you do for us “former slobs”!

An hour of solid work would be far too much for me, as I'm somewhat disabled and can only stand for about 20 minutes at a time. I move slowly when I do move. I think I can add one "weekly blessing" chore to each day's routine, to spread out the effort a bit. Possibly I can even do the "weekly blessing" chore later in the day after I've rested from doing my morning routine. Good inspiration!

Working woman here too! I still struggle to find the time when I am home to do most of the routine stuff, let alone the daily zones. I leave my house at 6:30a and don't get back until 6p (unless I work late). And I am NOT the type to give up my sleep, so I'm in bed by 10. That's barely enough time to cook, shower, eat etc. It will help when I move to be closer to work!

@@madnessofmymind I have been focusing on my morning and evening routines. I don't have too many things in each routine but they still make a great difference. I aim to do 15 mins of decluttering / zone cleaning about 3 times a week but don't worry if I don't get to it.

  • @poolahpot

I will say...”hour” is relative to home size(sq ft), number of people & pets in the home, how messy the previous are and where one lives in the world(smog, dust/dirt/mud load, etc)...oh, and the persons age/physical ability doing the cleaning lol. 😉
We have cats & dogs and live in a very very dusty area. 3000+/- sq ft. to clean.
The home blessing “hour” takes me 2-3 hrs 😬
I used to get frustrated seeing so many doing it in only 1hr, but then realized...it’s all relative. 😉
YOU inspire me secretslob! please keep it up!

Yes definitely!! Her house is a bit larger than mine, so i think I ll be able to do it under one hour. However, my mom has a huge house and its very dusty too, so she splits it into sections. She mixes the hard rooms with easy rooms to get each section under 1h30 approximately. I would think this will work for you as well and i hope its helpful and less overwhelming 😊

I had this same thought-- my house is 3 levels and also a little over 3000 sqft & it took me 30 minutes just for the vacuuming in my house :-\ But I like the idea of "blessing" my home at the start of each week & am hoping that I'll at least be able to keep it under 2 hours once I get better/ more efficient at this.

New subscriber here. We are a hot mess over here at our house. 5 kids. No routines. Starting slow with your 21 Day videos but my question is - you vacuum instead of sweep all those floors!!?? I have never thought of this. What type of vacuum do you use and do you use a broom the rest of the week except for the Home Blessing? We have to sweep daily or there is just "debris" everywhere.

Never found a spray mop that worked for more than a few months. Always the spraying mechanism will stop working. Cheap ones, more expensive ones, all were the same. Now I use the wet mop tag plus spray bottle technique and am really glad I didn't buy another one of the pesky things (waste of space, anyway).
But you're right, as long as it worked I loved it, haha

Hi, I found your channel by accident. I've done the very basic routines with FL before, but now I need to be serious about cleaning and get down to it. If I understand it, the Home Blessing is only one day a week. What do you do the other days of the week?

    • @TheJoyFinder

Plug an extension cord in the end of your vacuum cord. Keep it attached to the vacuum cord and just unplug the extension cord from the wall outlet. I can do the entire floor without unplugging. Simple but oh so mindblowing. Mike drop...Haha

I was going to suggest the same thing. Also, a lightweight stick vac would be easier to use then schlepping around the cannister vac. I hate dragging those around after me. I have 3 stick vacs, I love them so much, and they each convert into different types of vacs, such as handheld for stairs or furniture (like a dustbuster), by removing the long handle and/or the floor attachment. I recommend the Eureka Quickup and the Bissell stick vac. Super lightweight and portable on stairs and everywhere and no bags or belts to replace and no attachments falling off. Oh, and cheap, too. I got them from Walmart, one was under $28 and the other under $20.

Interesting. About the mopping, personallly I find the old wringe mopp and bucket with that mop-head that looks white ragdoll hair just swings the dirt around.
Instead I use a mop similar to the one you have but that comes with washable cloths for them that has belcrow on the one side to attach to the mop. I run these ”cloths” lightly under the tap to get them damp and then spray my cleaning stuff directly onto the cloth. Much Quicker than to bring a spray bottle along.
If the floor isn’t all that stained I skip running it under water.

I have been following Fly Lady's home blessing hour for several years now. The one thing I still haven't figured out is the bathroom cleaning. She says to clean it each day with a swish/swipe and scrub the tub in the shower but I still don't feel like I get all 3 of my bathrooms clean that way. If I wait until I hit them in my zones, they get a good scrubbing once a month. How do you work in the bathrooms? Have you tried adding it to your weekly blessing hour?

    • @TheSecretSlob
