The Land mark system also prevents cockroaching. Which makes me sad. But will probably make a lot of players happy.
Once the enemy finds your big land mark buildings, and destroys them, you are out of the game. You won't be able to hide out in a corner of the map with One villager in a FFA match. And slowly rebuild your empire from a single lumber camp.

@@graemes8187 Well, I mean, in a 1 v 1 situation I can see how Cock roaching is annoying.
But in FFA games my greatest joy is surviving a massive early raid. To some how sneak off with at least a few villagers. And then slowly build my way back up from the shadows. To become a credible threat by the end of the game.
In AoE IV you automatically lose if all your TC's are down and all of your Land marks are down.
It doesn't matter if you have 20 vills and an archer range hiding at at edge of the map.
Special Important buildings go down, and boom you lose. Which is good because it means you can't just have one dude hiding a single vil behind a cliff.
But it also means you can't have incredible come backs in FFA games. Its a lot more Cut and Dry. Defend your land marks/TC's or you lose.

@@AttiliusRex I think the asymetric factions is a big change though. Imagine putting a "half price villager" cheap tech in feudal age in aoe2, it would break the entire game balance, whereas in this, its balanced because other civs also get absurd bonuses in very niche areas. You can't dodge arrows or micro as much since units have slight acceleration and dont turn instantly, but there's so many other decision-making things that go into a match. AoE4 I think just moves some stuff away from micro and moves it toward macro. I don't just mean economy, but the general ideas of what to build next or where to go, just because the factions are so different. The civs to me are more akin to the civ differences in something like Company of Heroes, where even though every faction gets a "machine gunner" they all deploy at different rates, have different arcs, suppress at different rates, etc etc.

Some warships have aoe 3's broadside mechanic. Units show all the bonus damage they inflict like in aoe 3. Ranged units have a weaker melee attack like in aoe 3. Less more asymmetrical civs like in Aoe 3. All civs have culture specific graphics for units and buildings similar to how aoe 3 had non European factions I'm sure there is more.
