Epica are a Dutch symphonic metal band. They formed in 2002 and are still going strong. They do everything from soft ballads to brutally intense death metal. Simone Simons is the vocalist and she is a classically trained soprano.
If you want another ballad I suggest Once Upon a Nightmare from Omega Alive (their livestream show during covid). If you want to explore them at their heaviest I suggest the Essence of Silence, Official Live video. For their most grandiose production, Kingdom of Heaven part 3 from Omega Alive.

Hi Maria, EPICA are phenomenal, here is a song from the same show, this is more like their symphonic metal sound 🙃

Love the band. Epica - once upon a nightmare (omega Alive) is another beautiful song and performance. Or the singer Simone Simons new project, Simone Simons - Aeterna (FT Ayreon).

One of Epica's softer songs. Like most symphonic metal bands, they have a wide range, from ballads to hard hitting metal. And, there are connections, as is not uncommon in the symphonic metal world. The lead singer, Simone Simmons is good friends with Floor Jansen of Nightwish. They went to school together and I believe that at one point they were roommates. This song quickly climbed my favorites list and the lovely sounds of Apocalyptica's cellos, mixed with Simone's crystal voice are a big part of the reason why.

Yeah Epica is legendary and I'm not even a particularly a huge symphonic metal fan. Cofounder Mark Jansen had previously worked with Floor in After Forever and he and Simone Simons started Epica after that. They can do the full symphonic sound, but Mark is also a pretty good harsh vocalist. Their composition is great, and Simone is consistently one of the best symphonic vocalists, even after a very long run of it. Great reaction!

Epica and Floor Jansen actually did a performance together on the song "Sancta Terra". I would love Maria to check it out!
