She Created An AMAZING Garden - overgrown yard transformation

- This elderly lady created a beautiful garden, and is now sadly no longer here, having passed away. The house had to be sold and has now been purchased by someone else. During this time, the garden has become overgrown and now her son has asked me to spend a little time giving it a makeover, before the new owners move in.
I thought this was an truly lovely thing to do for the new owners, and also a chance for me to pay homage to the horticultural creativity of this lady who, up until she became ill, managed this garden by herself.
Join me for this journey around this lovely garden, created and cared for by this lady who has passed.
We'll take a look at some of the plants that she chose and how they have given life to this outdoor cottage oasis. As well as cutting back and weeding this place back to the garden it once was.
I hope you will get as much from it, as I did.
As always, thanks for watching.

What a beautiful garden and the ladie's sons tribute to his mother by having the garden cleaned up to where the new owners too can hopefully care enough to keep this garden going and cared for the way it deserves. Love the lupines. and appreciate all yourhard work as well as putting a name to some of the plants you were working around. Thanks for an excellent video.
Thanks for the awesome compliments 😊 really, it's appreciated. I'm chuffed to bits you enjoyed the video.
I'm definitely going back, not only to finish off, but I've just realized I've left my favorite garden fork somewhere in the garden 😂
@@martinthegardenguy GAH! 😲Don't lose your tool! I just saw it on Amazon, and have added it to my tool wish list. It really is a cool multi-tool! 💛🖤💛 Stacy
This lady know what she was doing 🌾🙏🪻. Please keep it this way . ☘️🌲🪷. 🙏
She did, indeed 😊 I hope someone will keep it that way 🤞
I've seen too many gardens like this covered in gravel or concrete 😥
So lovely to see a garden guy who preserves the plants. What a lovely garden❤
Thank you 😊 🙏 that's very kind of you to say. It's much appreciated.
Martin.
Aww, such a lovely garden. I’m sure the lady would be standing there watching you bring it back to life with a big smile. And it gives the new owners a fighting chance to keep it up together too 👌🏻🧡💚
I hope she is, I wish I could thank her for it 😊 I went to do the back garden this week as well. Equally as special 😍
Thanks again
Martin.
@@martinthegardenguy - oh that’s good you got to complete it all. 👏🏼. I’m sure she would be chuffed to bits!
I'm sure his mother is smiling down on both of you! I sincerely hope the new owners are avid gardeners - it's such a beautiful garden! As always, your thorough,, thoughtful work has produced wonderful results.
Oh, thank 😊 🙏 I hope so to, I truly do.
I'm going back soon to rediscover the back garden 😅 I don't think I've got too long before the new people move in.
Same as you, I hope they love it and want to maintain it well 🤞
I LOVED this one, Martin! 😍 So lush and loved, created by such a great lady. I have a feeling she is up there, sitting with a cup of tea & cookies, smiling down on you as you work. You must be filled with admiration at how much she accomplished in this wonderful spot... I know I am! You made quick work of the place and put everything right once again. Beautiful job as always. Blessings from Washington State! 💛🖤💛Stacy
Oh, I'm glad you liked this one. I thought she was a garden genius 😁 lovely plants and very well chosen. She taught me a thing or two from beyond the grave, and I'm thankful.
Thank you for the customary lovely comment 😊 you're a diamond.
Martin.
Such a gardener's love and your respect for her memory. Well done!
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏
That's a super kind comment.
Much appreciated
Martin.
Thank you for doing her garden justice. She must be smiling at you from above.
By the way, I was expecting you to say lupins in a Monty Python voice!🤣
That's hilarious 😂 you must be at least as old as me to remember that one 😂
Excellent transformation. You should be proud of your work.
Thanks very much 👍 😊 that's really kind of you.
Absolutely beautiful garden and you brought it back to life. Thank you for identifying the plants. Most of the lawn care channels i watch just cut everything down and have no idea what they are destroying. It is refreshing to see the care and thought you put into your work.
Oh, thanks 😊 that's a lovely comment. It's really appreciated, and I'm really glad you enjoyed the video.
You're a diamond 😊
This was a well planned garden as her plants have continued to thrive in her absence. I would be so thrilled to drive up with the moving van and see how the lovely plants pop after your work. Great job.
Oh, thank you. 😊
They should just be in time for the main flower show as well by the time they move in.
I've been working on the back garden this week 😅 equally as lovely.
Thanks again
Martin.
Love how he clean around plants make them clean looking

Oh thanks 😊 I'm glad you thought it was a lovely garden, too 🙏
Brilliant job Martin!! Fabulous manicure, you did the lady proud!!! From Ontario Canada
Thank you so much 😊👍
What an amazing job!! Such a lovely garden! Thank you for your kindness!
Thank you for watching as well 😊 much appreciated. Also, thank you for the lovely comment.
I always think leaving a beautiful garden behind leaves a piece of you behind on earth, very comforting. Well done Martin.
Honestly, I couldn't agree more. I think something always lives on in a garden. Even if the new owner changes something. This is why I like planning trees ☺️
Although it'd be a travesty to change too much about this garden 😊
Thank you for the comment 👍
Martin
What a lovely sentiment.💖
The lady will be looking down and saying thank goodness Martin has done my garden proud
Oh, what a very kind and heartfelt thing to say 😊 I do hope she does.
The thought kinda made me happy and sad at the same time.
It really is magical.
Thank you, I'm glad you agree 😊 she was a gardener genius 😊
That is a lovely garden.
I'm glad you thought so, too 😊👍 Thanks for watching.
👏👏👏 Excellent job ❤
Cheers ☺️ 👍 🍻 much appreciated.
Such a lovely garden. I love how you make sure the existing plants are not randomly blitzed but are instead rejuvenated.
Thanks ☺️ I hope you enjoyed her little garden as much as I did.
Thank you for the lovely comment
Martin.
Right! There are some channels where people just cut everything away, leaving a desert, no respect for any of the plants.
That’s why Martin is the garden guy and not the lawn guy. He really understands the plants
Such a lovely garden. Thank you for its rebirth!
Also, thank you for the comment and watching. I hope you enjoyed the video.
😊
Beautiful garden, sorry to hear the lady died 😢 And yes, we have more ants than previous years, all living in our lawn, making heaps of dirt. You managed to do all that in four hours 👏🏻👏🏻👌💪🏼
Haha, yeah, I do go quite fast. Although some gardens are easier than others. The soil was quite easy to work with here, but if it'd have been heavy clay, for example. It would have taken far longer 😅
P.s same for me, by the way. Ants seem to be loving living in my lawn 😂
Lovely work; she would be smiling down at her garden😊❤
Oh, I do hope so 😇🤞 thank you.
You done well there mate, given the time you had. Massive improvement, hopefully the new owners keep on top of it.👌👍
Cheers mate 👍 it was quite easy, workable soil to be fair. I work in some heavy clay areas, and it takes twice as long. And it is harder graft, as you probably know 😅
I already told you I appreciate your gardening style 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼, that you just tide up and maintain it and not just cut things!! Very happy to have watched this video! Well done!!🪴🌿🌺🌸🪻🌼🌻
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'll try and put an update photo in the community section as it'll look even better when those border perennials start to flower 🌼 🌸 😀
Thanks!
What a wonderful job you did on this beautiful garden. I love it when you show the name of the plants. It's so helpful. I've been wondering what perennials to plant in my borders alongside the garden path. They look perfect. Thank you for sharing your videos. You're amazing 😊
You are too kind 😊 I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, it really does make it all worthwhile.
To be fair, I learned something about the use of ground cover perenials on this job. Every day is a school day in gardening 😅😁
Looks beautiful Martin. Job well done 👏. ❤ from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Canada 🇨🇦 ☺️
Thanks for the shout-out 👍
And also, thanks for watching.
Oh, I am sorry to hear she didn't get to come back to her garden, may she rest in peace. My sympathies to her family if they read this.
You got such a lot done in the 4 hours. It will make arriving so much nicer for the new people. And maybe you get to do one more hour.
I hope you left your contact info for the new owners.
I agree, groundcovering plants instead of weeds, although some weeds are pesky enough to grow through (I am thinking of twitch, dandelions and convolvulous).
I didn't even think of posting a business card through the door until someone else mentioned it 😂 I will do it, though, it'd be great to carry on and look after the place.
Yeah, even with ground cover, something will still get through. It's wasn't too bad here, grass more than anything else.
Thank you for the super kind thoughts 🙏
How beautiful. I bet the lady will be so happy you did that x😊
Oh, I do hope so 😊 it's was such a lovely little garden. Packed with flowers, and will be even more so later on in summer.
I've learned a thing or two 😁
Thanks
Martin.
You're simply amazing! Love the care you give to the plants! So beautiful 💖!!
Oh, thank you 😁 😊 🙏
It is a gorgeous garden and you have done a fab job tidying it up. I hope the new owners don’t rip it all out.
Oh wow, me too. It'd be a travesty 😥 I'm gonna pop a business card through the door, just in case looking after a garden like this scares them 😂
It's a beautiful garden and you did an awesome job 👍
Thank you 😊 🙏 super kind of you to say so. It's appreciated 😁
Awe. What a sweet story.
Sweets story, for a sweet garden 😊 it's was ever so floral. It was strong enough to cover up my sweaty gardener smell 😂
Hi Martin I'm a new subscriber to your channel, what a beautiful garden by previous owner all credit to her & yourself for making it special again. I too love my garden & of late had to watch my husband & daughter see to it until I can resume my duties, which I am so itching to do. You have done so well for her, I know it was for the new owners benefit but I'm sure the lady concerned was watching over you , her selection of plants are beautiful she must have been a real gardener. I love the way you work as if it was your own Martin so kudos to you for that, I also hope the new owners employ your services so you can keep the garden in tip top condition, much love keep safe 👍🏼
Thank you 👍 😊 that's very kind of you. I truly will never get tired of reading lovely comments like these 😊
I hope you manage to get out in the garden soon.🤞

I would take your 4 hours any day! Amazing job and beautiful garden....thank you for sharing!
Oh thanks 😅 I actually overshot by 10 minutes! Haha.
Thanks for watching and for the lovely comment 😊
It’s so lovely and you definitely made her proud. The love you have for gardening comes thru in every video. You take the time to do that extra treating it as your own. 😊
You comment some of the kindest and loveliest things 😊 you're an absolute diamond 😊🙏
What an incredible garden. ❤
Oh, yes. She certainly had an eye for color and flowers 😊
Lots of "sticky weed" in that place, otherwise known as "galium aparine". Also called "bedstraw" or "sticky willy". What a lot of weeding. And what a beautiful flower bed. I am a really fast weeder and no way I could get all that weeded in four hours. Good job!
Oh yeah, the old sticky weed seems to be loving the damp but warm weather. It seems to be spreading around a lot of the gardens I look after. It grows quickly, but I never really struggle getting rid of it. At least temporarily 😅
I was actually there 4 hours and 10 mins 😂 but I'm quite a fast weeder. I almost do it on auto pilot 😊 I was listening to an audio book while doing this garden to 😁
Thanks for the comment 👍
Martin.
Martin, you take such care in your work. I love gardens and that is one beauty. Thank you for identifying the plants and flowers for us. You are my favorite pro Gardenener. I love your videos and I'm always looking for the next.
Oh, thank you, I'm really glad you're enjoying them. You are always very kind.
There will be plenty more videos coming soon, I've been doing two different kinds. Big clearances, and then ones more like this one (actualgardening) 😁. I hope you like both 🤞

@@martinthegardenguy LOVE your plant identification, as well ! 🪴 I live in Lakewood, Washington (98498) just south of icky Seattle, so my zone is 8-B (ish)... So far, everything you have mentioned through out all your videos we grow here. (I think I'm caught up after Binging them all 🤣) When you mentioned the Lupines, I remembered Momma and I sowing the seed in her shed/grow lights. What a bumper crop we had! So many memories of she and I in the gardens over the decades... I miss her. (I lost her the day before Mother's Day & my birthday last year) She would LOVE you and your videos. 💛🖤💛
This woman kept a beautiful garden and she would be very proud of your remake. I love watching you work a garden! Love your hand work at weeding and edging. I enjoy your interaction with us; identifying plants and their information is enjoyable. You are a true gardener, a delight to watch. You make me want to stand for an encore! 😊 Watching from Texas 🇺🇸

So much done in so little time. I am impressed!
Thanks for the naming of the Red Valerian. My sister has them in their garden, we all like them very much but we did not know what it is. I will tell her and her husband that they are lucky people. 😊
Oh, thank you 😊
You can also tell your sister that the flowers are going, she can dead head them, and sometimes you'll get more flowers later on in autumn.
And then, in early spring, cut it right back to the ground, and it'll start all over again 😁😊👍
It's a plant that keeps on giving 😂
@@martinthegardenguy thanks for the tipps. I will tell them. 😊
That garden was beautiful...

Positively, absolutely my favorite video!. The Lord must have seen her work and called her up to Heaven to work in His gardens. Thank you for doing this for the new homeowners, and I hope they attend to the wonderful job she did here. As I Texan, I appreciate you saying that Lupines are your favorite flowers. We only grow the short blue ones, but seeing a whole sea in a field of them truly makes you think you are in Heaven. God bless you Martin.
Greetings Texas, thanks for that awesome comment 😊 I'm glad you're a lupin lover as well 😁
She did a marvelous job designing that garden, didn't she, I've learned a few new ideas from her, even though she's not with us anymore.

Oh wow, you have some aggressive ants over there. Our ants aren't that bad. They just tickle 😂

@@martinthegardenguy absolutely leave your card for the new owner! Who knows she may not want the work of it and lease it out to you! WOOWHOO... that would be fantastic! Excellent idea.💛🖤💛 Stacy
what a wonderful garden! very good job .
New to your channel. Love that you show care to the garden and not just destroying everything. Very cool that you label the plants. I learned some new names. Just one note to do edits without as many cut-ins with the go-pro style, especially for lawn work with movement. Plenty of good material without and close ups are rarely helpful. They are good for seeing plants up close, though! Thanks for posting. Cheers!
Thank you 👍 😊 what a lovely comment.
P.s I think you're right about the gopro shots. A few people have mentioned it 😂 I was trying something new 😅 and it obviously doesn't work. I live and learn, though 😁

Haha, they can be little buggers. I had to replace the entire seal around my front door and also train my children to stop hiding half eater fruit bits behind sofas and other places 😂 the ants would always find them before I did.
