Garden TIDY And Transformation! For A Poorly Elderly Woman. Bringing Back This Beautiful Rural Space
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 сен 2024
- This garden used to be well loved, anyone could tell. Unfortunately, the elderly lady who owns the house has been poorly for a while and unable to do the garden as she's being taken care of in hospital.
I have never met her, but that doesn't matter.
I was asked if I could help out.
Rural garden in the country side, wildlife everywhere, garden in need of a little rescue, someone needing help? of course I said YES! 😁
Who wouldn't.
Thank you so much for watching,
Martin The Garden Guy.

I have subscribed to a few Lawn fixing guys, but I must say I was so impressed by you. With all the hard & difficult work you do there was one thing in particular that stood out for me. The fact that you cut all those branches as you were trimming that tree & then thought about the wildlife that can take shelter from those branches & twigs. That really touched my heart big time. You are actually the only guy that I've watched who actually thinks of the wildlife who need shelter. Thank you for your kindness ❤ YOU are very much appreciated 👏 💖🌠🌻😻
Oh hello, I must have missed this lovely comment, some how. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, its great how you appreciate the wildlife as well ❤️😊 Its becoming quite a big part of my gardening now.
I will be making more gardening videos on this particular aspect, its made me really happy knowing so many other people are thinking about it as well.
Thank you very much for the comment, and I apologise about the late reply.
All the best
Martin.
Agreed!
I enjoy watching real gardening.. That’s what I miss in the other channels I watch that are mostly lawn mowing with some tree trimming and shrub pruning 👍👏👌❤️
It is so therapeutic watching you transform these gardens!
Haha, thank you. I find it quite therapeutic to 😊 I'm so lucky I get to spend all day outdoors.
Thanks again
Martin
Awesome transformation.
I love the idea of putting the logs together as a place for small animals! Great job
Thanks 👍I have been building them everywhere 😂also been attempting to make my own bug hotels, with mixed results😁
Its crazy how quickly the wildlife move into the log piles.
Thanks for the comment
Very much appreciated
Martin.
I appreciate those that get the work done by hand instead of always using the weed wacker. Good job Martin.
Oh, thank you 😊 I think I'm just old-fashioned. But it feels like you earn it more when you use hand tools.
Although I'm still appreciative of power tools. They stop my body hurting so much! 🤣
Thank you for the comment ❤️
Martin
Acres Lawncare from the UK does very similar work. Cheers.
Nothing wrong with using tools like a weed wacker !
Right tool for the right job . . . 😊
At last! Someone who cares!
I have watched gardening videos
And it is heartbreaking to watch
The annihilation of precious shrubbery
With power tools.
You have restored my faith though.
I love the way that you nurtured this very pretty
Garden, the lady obviously thinks of our
Precious wildlife.
I shall subscribe and look forward to your future videos.
Another absolutely lovely comment 😊 honestly, I appreciate it so much 🙏
I'm glad you noticed the little things.
It was a wonderful litte garden, and I'll be back again soon to keep it looking ok.
That greenhouse still needs some work! 😅
Thank you
Martin.
@@martinthegardenguy 😁👍
Sure did enjoy, job awesome work
Hi Martin, you are amazing. You always impress me with your hard work.
Bless you 😊👍you never say anything mean 😅 your ever so kind.
Very good video. I like how much you use manual tools that anyone can use in their own garden. Continue your good work 😊
Oh yes, old school is best 😁 although I still love massive power tools as well 😂
But I get a far better workout using the manual stuff 👍
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad you're enjoying the content.
Much appreciated
Martin.
You're my kind of gardener: weed by hand, down on my knees, crawling around if need be...dirty hands.
Take care of your spine especially!
Thank you, I've been doing it like this for so long. I'll probably never change 😂 I do find it all very relaxing and cathartic 😁 although you're right about the back, it does ache after a while.
Watching you work so hard in the garden, I'm glad mine is artificial turf and gravel surrounded by plants, some of which are fake. It sounds horrendous but i have a quaint cottage garden. I have enough oohs and ah's from visitors to keep me happy! I admire your work ethic and you're nifty with a rake. Well done!
Your garden still sounds lovely 😊
This is an amazing job. And your Tools are very interested.❤
This is by far my fave video! Ur attention to detail is spectacular!!! LOVE IT! U gained a new subscriber!
Excellent, thank you. I'm really glad you enjoyed it 👍 ☺️
I've become addicted to your videos. Never in my life would I have ever thought I would be watching videos about lawn care. But for me, it's satisfying to see the before and after transformations. For sure, it would be sold in the auction. Spencer, you did an amazing job 👏 🙌
Oh hello, I think you may have me mixed up with someone else. My name is Martin 😊
But I hope you like my video as well ❤️
All the best
Martin.
Haha, it's OK
I've been called worse 😂
I hope you are well ❤️
It´s wonderful how you treat the plants and bring out their beauty again. Great job you are doing. Greetings from Germany
Greetings to you also, Germany. All the way from Nottingham.
Hope you enjoyed the video, and thanks you very much for watching.
Much appreciated.
Martin.
I stumbled upon your channel and found it interesting to watch you work this yard. How you knew where the concrete areas were and the way you “sliced” out the flower bed borders was very interesting. That was a jungle to me with all the ivies, but you tamed it pretty good. The tools you use are “old ways” tools that I remember my grandpa using. Enjoyed watching you use them.
I like how you made the pile for the critters. You stacked it very well for them to be able to use it. We call them wildlife brush piles here in Texas USA and they are very beneficial for many critters. The smaller branches criss crossed and piled up makes for good cover for songbirds. I could hear the ones there.
It was very nice to help the elderly woman out. I do hope she is able to return to her home.
Enjoyed!
Oh, well, thank you very much 😊. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
I do love my old-fashioned kit, and even the newer remakes of them 😁 plus it keeps me fit 😂
I'm also glad you noticed the little wildlife log piles. I like the term wildlife brush pile as well. It doesn't take much effort, and as you say, it's always appreciated my critters.
I think every garden should have one 😊
Thank you for the lovely comment.
Very much appreciated.
Martin
I love those clipper-edger things. Nice!
Loved this whole clean up. 😊
Thank you 😊 🙏
Do you mean the lawn edging shears? They are fabulous, very old-fashioned 😂 but some tools don't need improvement.
I, too, love all the hand tools. Also love the way you "massage" the garden soil as you weed. I can just hear it sighing "ahh, I can breath again!".😊
Haha, this made me smile 😁 Thank you.
I find weeding very therapeutic, but now I think the soil likes it too 😅
I used to spend 10 to 12 hours on a Saturday weeding our garden. My wife accused me of being OCD.
I love your little pile of wood for the critters! You are such a sweet man. Absolutely adore your videos.
Thank you ❤️ 😊 I'm glad you see the right side of it. I'm sure some people would think I was loopy for doing things like that 😂
But it works, it's crazy how much wildlife it attracts 🥰
Thanks again,
Martin.

5 Stars. You did an awesome job. Can’t believe you did all that within that timeframe allocated. Looking forward to your next video.
Haha, I was a tiny bit late picking the kids up from nursery, though 😂
I am really glad you enjoyed it, though.
Thank you for the lovely comment 😊
Martin.
What a lovely garden & great job Martin. I noticed near the end you cut off the seeding flower from the palm tree. We lived in a house for over 20years & planted 2 palms within weeks of moving in. They grew in to beautiful trees 🌴 and on the day we were handing the keys to the new owner my hubby came in & said oh a farmers trailer has gone by & some loose hay blew on to top of the palms. But when we examined it it was the palm flower!!! After 20 years. Thanks again for the video.
Oh wow 😅 well it may have took 20 years, but at least you saw them flower. Maybe they were saying fair well 😊
@@martinthegardenguy lol 😂
Lovely job 😊😊😊
Thank you 😊 🙏
Awesome!
Thank you 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Martin.
I love your scissors to trim the beds edges.
Oh yeah, they are awesome 😁 I do like my manual traditional kit.
You should get some 😊
Love this garden ❤ the lady will be so happy when she’s home and sees what you did. I also put big cut-offs from trees or bushes in corners of my garden. One time a gardener who cut our 3 meter high hedges wanted to clean up my wood stack too, he thought it attracted mice and such. Next year he brought an apprentice along, and the first thing he told the lad: “this lady likes a wildish garden, so leave the logs.”
Oh yes, it was a lovely garden. It certainly wouldn't have been low maintenance, though 😂 she designed it quite beautifully.
There was some sad news, though. She won't be returning. The house is now up for sale. I've been back to try and tidy up more for whenever it's sells. As I'm sure it'll be another elderly person.
Thanks for the comment.
I may try and do an update video soon.
Thanks again
Martin.
@@martinthegardenguy sorry to hear about the lady, unfortunately that’s life when you live long enough. But it’s nice the garden is tidied up a bit for the sale, and fingers crossed the new owner will hire you as the gardener.
Great job thanks
Nice little tidy up.
Thank you ❤️
First time I've watched one of your videos. It takes a very patient and considerate person to edge by hand the way you do Martin.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hello! And thanks for watching.
Also, thanks for the lovely comment.
I hope you enjoyed the video ☺️

a very good job ,
Thank you 😊
You do such a beautiful job in bringing back order. Thank you for creating a safe space for hedgehogs and others to rest and make home - it’s so important to help balance things for them. That greenhouse could look a treat - I hope she is able to come home and enjoy what you’ve done. 😊
Oh, thank you 😊 I hope you enjoyed the video. It's awesome that you appreciate the wildlife too 🥰
I create these crazy little log piles all over the gardens I look after. It's amazing how quickly they become homes to hundreds of bugs and animals 😆 it's become a bit of an addiction 🤣
Thank you so much for the comment.
All the best
Martin.
We don’t spray pesticides in our garden so we have a lizard “nursery” which in turn helps keep the crickets down, monarch butterflies hangout along with the neighborhood possums, raccoons and hawks. My husband has plumerias of varied colors and scents. It’s not a large garden but it holds a lot of varieties of hibiscus and sago palms, jasmine and irises. Our idiot dog has squirrels to chase too. Relaxing and nurturing which is a very nice break. So Cal is supposed to get a wet winter so we’ll see. Take care - love your videos.
Love grandma room
Thanks
How nice !!!! A tidy house invites us to appreciate it
You will get it done Martin but leaves are a bit of a pain to clean up because as soon as some are cleaned up there will be more. I'm delighted to see a video from you
You're totally right. It's my main gardening job this time of year. Some of my clients live in forest areas as well! 🤣 I'm raking/blowing them as they are falling from the sky.
It keeps me busy though 😅😁

Great Job Martin! I have so much respect for your skills aa a master gardener! You made it seem so effortless and quick! I was dismayed for you when you showed us the thorns that cut right into leather gloves! What a trooper you are! Not to mention that you are helping a poor elderly lady! My hat's off to you! Thanks for sharing! I look forward to seeing the greenhouse work too. George from Florida, USA
George, you are a gentleman and a scholar.

Thank you 😊 💓
Hello again Martin from Washington State. I adore that you tell us the names of the plants or why you do one thing or the other. With your comforting voice, watching you is very relaxing!
I love your respect for the wildlife around you. Such harmony between human and nature. English gardens have so much character.,💛 i loved the brick shelf and path behind the clematis.. a secret spot it seems! And I'm with you: i LOVE crisp edges for the lawn! I need to get one of those scraper tools you have! I think you have 3 different sizes. That ivy on the brick came right off with a little scraper.
Would you be willing to give us a little look see in your van? I love to see how people organize (or not) when they are going out to work. Just a thought.
Question: My boxwood hedge that lines the gardens is turning yellow in some places. I don't see any disease, or Caterpillar damage, and it got enough water from the automatic sprinklers. To be fair, I've not fed them with composted steer manure, or evergreen food. Do you have any ideas what it might be?
Blessings to you from the PNW! 💛🖤💛 Stacy's Artful Heart
Oh hi 😊👍 I hope your always going to send such lovely comments. A Garden Guy could get used to it 😂
I have, in some of my videos shown the back of my van. The word, is definitely not organised 😂
About the boxwood, I'm no expert, but yellowing leaves and a little discoloration can be a sign of needing a good feed or compost mulch. Especially if you cant see any obvious signs of disease.
Any way, greeting Washington State all the way from Nottingham.
Hope you've had a good weekend.
Martin.
Good job
Cheers! Much appreciated 🙏 ☺️
Beautiful work..I really enjoyed this video…..I used to enjoy doing the same work
Hey Frank, thanks for the comment 👍
I hope you can one day get back at it, if that's possible?
All the best
Martin.
Fascinating watching you tidy up this garden. Soon turned out that it was quite a lot of work. Well done!
As I've no trees of my own I didn't understand why you cut back the apple tree so hard. I'm sure you've got good reasons, as you showed us the branches in close-up, but please explain for the less garden inclined among us, so we can keep up.
Thank you, yeah, there is always more work that I think 😂 I always find more that needs doing.
The apple tree here wasn't really a proper prune. It was because it was growing over into the garden. That's the only reason I cut it hard back.👍
💯
You show passion for your work... wonderful. I love the way you do things by hand 😮doing wonderful work ❤
Thanks so much 🙏 ☺️
What a lovely comment

What would be nice is if you put on the video what plants and trees you’re trimming. And the correct spelling. So many have weird names that it’s good to see the names printed. Thanks. Huge, terrific result.
I really like that idea, I think that'd be really helpful to a lot of people.
I suppose I've been doing it that long I don't think about it anymore.
But on the next video, I will try and add a few.

Hi Martin
Looks so much neater after your work in this garden
It’s funny, my husband took a photo of me watching you and sent it to my granddaughters saying when Nanny can’t be out in the garden working she watches you gardening
I’m trying to get better from bursitis and can only do limited work for shorter periods in the garden
Everything is growing so quickly and recently I haven’t been able to keep up
Thank you for keeping me happy 🦘❤️❤️❤️
I love seeing the moss growing over rocks, so pretty
Haha, that's hilarious. It's the kind of thing I would do when my wife least expects it 🤣
I hope the bursitis goes away soon, I've heard rest and relaxing is best. And maybe ibuprofen! 😁
You obviously work too hard.
Take it easy, and a super thank you for the comment. ❤️
Martin
first time viewing. great job. it looks to me that the ivy is growing over the wall. could it be coming from the neighbor's yard and invading this ladies property?? thanks for the visit.
Hi 👋 thanks for watching.
The ivy was actually planted by her many, many years ago 😊 it'll take some amount of work to get it back under control. Unfortunately, far more time than I had to give.
Im not sure what the name of the tree was, but i was surprised how much uou cut back. That was basically what i envisioned I would have done. I usually cut too much.
Hi, it is an apple tree. It's quite OK to remove 1/3 of the growth without harming the tree.
But you can easily remove more if needed at the right time of year 👍
Although there may not be as many apples next year.
Excellent effort , viewing from Detroit Michigan USA 🇺🇸 .
Greetings Detroit, thanks for the comment 👍 you have reminded me of a program I watched recently about the rise in urban veg gardening in Detroit. It was fascinating 👍 I know it's a big city, but I hope there are some of the gardens near you. They looked amazing.
Thanks for the comment
Martin.
Ooh, pyracantha, also known as firethorn, with good reason. The berries can be made into quite a nice jam, though, if you can stand the smell while it's boiling! Those spiky looking trees with the long thin leaves are cabbage trees, don't bother trying to compost the leaves as they take years to break down. Alternatively to sending them to landfill, they make excellent kindling.
Oh wow, I didn't know you could make jam from the berries. I bet collecting them is painful 🤣 I once collected gorse flowers to make an ale, and that was prickly enough.
I hope the taste is worth it, I'm gonna have to give it a go now! 😁
Because cabbage tree leaves take so long to break down, you can use them to tie annual growth up for support during the growing season. 😊
It’s a beautiful garden although it’s autumn but can get out of hand so quickly, so happy you are looking after it!
Thank you 😊 🙏 it's a lovely garden. When she was more able, she spent quite a lot of time pottering and working in the garden. Fingers crossed she'll be able to enjoy it again soon.
Thanks again for the comment.
Martin
Absolutely lovely job.....she will be so pleased! Great video!
Thanks 👍 😊 I hope she will 🤞
All the best

It looks more than a little bit better!
If that pole was a bird feeder, it would be nice outside the sitting room window (if there is a place).
If you think the greenhouse will be spider city, don't forget to tuck everything so they can't run in and under. Had it, it's yuck . . .
I think that would be a lovely spot, I do the same. Alway put them somewhere I can see them. 😚👍
And you are so, so right about the spiders crawling up legs 🤣 I love all wildlife. But that, to me is a thing of nightmares 🤣
Thankfully, none in this country are poisonous 😅
I love how you do the edging, perfection. I need some of your tools for my garden. It was a pleasure to watch how you weeded the gardens, I’m going to keep studying your techniques for my next years garden. Well done sir !!!! Garden looked amazing ✨✨✨✨✨
Oh wow, thank you 😊 🙏 what a really nice comment. It's totally appreciated.
I'm happy to give advice if you need it, let me know when you get cracking on your garden next year 😊👍

Thanks for watching, a big Nottinghamshire thank you from me ❤️
What a lot of work. The yard looks beaut. Well done. Please take care
Thank you very much ☺️ 😊 🙏
Ivy is really a problem. I planted it around the tree like a ground cover but it took over the tree. We eventually had to cut down the tree it had almost killed it. Not good.😊
That was one crazy redo. Some say as different as apples and oranges until they are neglected and overgrown. That apple needs constant attention or you have to do what you did. Sorry you had to go through that. Hope to see you finish this garden. It already will make the owner very happy. Wish I could still work like that. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks for the comment 👍 I'm glad you liked the video.
I never fuss too much with apple trees, I generally never bother pruning until they need it. 😊 I like simple gardening 😅
Thanks again
Martin
Eric, I wish I could garden like that still, too.
Once I could go all day and come back tomorrow for more. Now I feel like I can only pop out for liitle bits, and definitely not do more the next day.
Do you still manage to do some?

Super duper, thank you, my Danish friend ❤️ you are a total diamond.
Well done. Yes!
That was a lot of labor intensive clearing of plant beds and overgrowth. The end result is fabulous. I would not be looking forward to the greenhouse either. I HATE spiders.....gives me the creeps! This job is a 10+ out of 10.
You are an absolute star 😊 thank you for the very flattering comment.
Haha, spiders are the only creepy crawlies that I'm wary of. I still do what I can to provide habitats for them. But I prefer out of sight, out of mind 🤣
I'm working on it haha
God bless you more! You work really hard...
Thank you 😊 very kind of you to say so.
I have quince bushes in my yard which I love but they have thorns like the ones you showed us. I have pricked my fingers many times trimming those. Hope it didn’t get you too bad. Love the work you did here sir. Hope to see the work on the greenhouse as I’m sure you will clean it up nicely. Stay well.
Oh wow, I love Quince. Not so much the thorns though 🤣 I take it you have the small bush variety? I recently found a Quince in a client's garden, it was a tree variety (with no thorns) and Quince as big as a large pear! It would make jam making a lot easier 😅
Thanks for the comment ❤️

Great job you work hard what make was your dumpy bag and how much was your mini saw all the best for 2024 let's hope it is a bit dryer.
Hi, thank for the comment. I actually use lots of different bags, most don't really have a brand as such.
I find most of the heavy duty ones function quite similar.

Hi Martin, new subscriber. Could you please identify the grass in the garden plus the plants. I live overseas and do not recognise many, if any of the plants. Fabulous job you did
Oh hello 👋
From what I can remember, the tree in the middle of the lawn was a cordyline australis, the bed with the grass growing in it was actually a very old rose bed.
There was quite a lot of ivy, but beyond that, there wasn't actually a great deal of plants in the garden.
Was there one in particular you were thinking of?
You did a fantastic job👍💯👍
Thank you ❤️ 😊
I really appreciate your comment.

They've gone up in price in the last 30 years 😂

and I still have the tooth pick and tweezers!
Oh wow, well done. You obviously look after things far better than I do! 🤣
