@@martinthegardenguy I’m in my upper sixties and starting to feel it after a work out in my garden and lawn. My daughter in law used to call my huge swamp maples in my back yard ‘dirty trees’. There’s something so wonderful seeing your videos - you know plants and what they need along with what the homeowner needs too. Some mulch in the flower beds would help new flowers stand out and keep the weeds at bay. Love the idea of a trio of flowers in the front of the shed 😊.
A Great Job and I am sure that elderly couple would have been delighted with the result ......there are genuinely good people not motivated by selfishness
What an amazing transformation. It was so satisfying to see the weeds removed carefully & the borders tendered to. I have a lot of moss in my lawn this year & wondered how to tackle it. Thank you 👍
Hi 👋 thanks for the comment 😊 As for your moss problem: Always think of moss in the lawn as a symptom of a problem. Instead of the problem itself. It's quite easy to get rid of in most lawns. If I know a little bit about the lawn. I'm an organic gardener, though, so I don't use magic lotions and potions on mine 😂 Tell me what you can about your lawn, is it sunny, shady, clay or sandy soil. Have you had moss before or is it a new issue? More info the better, and I'll see what advice I can give to help out 👍
Oh thank you. It's South facing but shaded by a large cherry blossom tree in my neighbours garden. The soil is clay too. The lawn is very spongey in this area & when wet, there's a number of toadstools forming. I don't wish to use chemicals & I would greatly appreciate your expert advice. Thank you 👍
Oh dear, I almost missed your reply. So basically, as I said before, think of lawn issues as symptoms as opposed to the actual problem. With moss, it's usually one or more of a few things. Drainage & shade, although some other things in combination can also cause it to. Like soil compaction and nutrients defficient soil. So hit it with a few things, and it should help out. 1.Try to remove any over hanging branches that cause too much shade. 2.Remove the moss with a rake, no need to be too over zealous 😁 and over seed if you can. 3. Top dressing with horticulture sand is a great way to improve Drainage, just sweep it over the grass. And let the worms do the rest. (A must, for heavy clay soil) 4.feed the lawn, use anything, it doesn't have to be lawn food. I use liquid seaweed or tomato food. Because they are very cheap (some gardens would blow their top about this) but food is food to a plant 😂 And if it's really compact soil, jist use a garden fork to looked it up a little to get some air to the grass roots. To top it all off, grass is actually a very thuggy and tough plant. Hardly anything can out compete it. But it does like to be happy. Tick all of its boxes, and it should be fine 😁 Improving Drainage in soil takes a while, it's not an overnight solution. But it's easy to sweep over sand a few times a year. This'll probably do more to solve the issue than anything else. I'm an organic gardener, so I never use the chemicals solutions that are often touted as the cure by companies. Longest comment ever! 😂 Martin.
What a lovely video, no background music (until the end!) just watching you work your magic and listening to the wind blow. I haven’t cut my grass at all this year. It’s waist high at least. Wish me luck for the weekend🥴
Oh dear 😅 best of luck 👍 The wild life will be grateful for the later than normal cut. Don't worry, more people should do the same thing 😊 Keep an eye out for frogs 😅
You are truly a full-service lawncare guy! Every blade of grass was addressed and the bedding areas were immaculate. Impressive enough that you have a new subscriber! Thanks for sharing!
Like a visual asmr? I find this whole video very relaxing to be honest, which is probably a good reminder for me to get out in the garden and do some actual gardening but I do find it relaxing 👍🏽
Very nice! Hopefully the relatives that will be doing the yard work know to pull the weeds from the roots, trim the grass and ornamental plants, remove the waste/debris and clean the paths just as you've done.
Such a lovely thing to do for those no longer able to but love their garden. Main challenge? Getting up all the roots of the weeds so they don’t grow back. I hope it will become a garden full of colours and birds and they take pleasure from it.
Greetings Martin, from the PNW! What a sweet, simple garden, and I think a perfect size for the elderly couple there. I hate when there comes a time that they can't do what they enjoy in their yards. Thank God for you! I think what I liked most about the video is your stopping to have a chat with Dennis. My heart simply explodes for lovely older folks (I've been this way for my whole entire life, it seems, having a heart for them.) For you to have a chat and a friendly ear was probably just as meaningful as the actual work you did recovering their little oasis! I think we're all in agreement that the bare earth will continue to breed weeds, and to go ahead and add sod the 2 sides around the lawn (by the walk and then the patio.) If the small fence line space could be used for some color, it might be easier for the grandson to handle in general. I am happy to see that you'll give the lad some helpful tips to not feel overwhelmed. (Was I the only one who wanted a look-see inside the little gray shed?) Watching you is so therapeutic, Martin, as you work your way around the garden, constantly in touch with everything that surrounds you. Your appreciation for nature sure touches my heart, and your perspectives are so refreshing. So few have even a smidgen of enjoyment of a simpler time. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us here. Sending blessings from over here to over there. 💛🖤💛
I'm the same, I really enjoy working with elderly people, not for any charitable or magnanimous reasons. But for the amazing stories and experiences they have. It's like reading an awesome novel. Many of the older people I've met have wonderful and horrific stories comparable to any blockbuster film. Plus, I find them extremely easy to get along with, plus the added bonus of just helping out another human being 😅 P.s no, I also wanted to look in the shed 😂 I just forgot. Although I did just want to check, they'd got a mower for the grandson to use. P.p.s thanks for watching, very much appreciated. I like to kind comment 😊 I probably don't deserve it, but I like it all the same 😁
@@martinthegardenguy Oh I disagree! I think you deserve every bit of praise you receive. And I agree their lives are better than most movies... their loves and losses, their victories and tragedies, their epic history retold in first person. So many toss them aside, thinking they have nothing to say or offer as they age. How sad a perception. Helping others is sewn into the very fabric of your soul, I think. What a joy it's been, coming along with you as you experience so many wonderful gardens, some forgotten or neglected, yet are as charming as the owners (of every age) you meet. I admit, I wish your episodes were longer, narrated with your calming voice, because I enjoy them so much! I hope one day you will show us the ponds and water features you encounter, too... fingers crossed you anyway.💛🖤💛
Beautiful video Martin ,thank you. I feel that you took a load of the elderly couples mind, which in itself can be supportive for their health. Liked and subscribed 🌿
I'm glad the gentleman was okay, for a second I thought he went down along with the tripod 😅 Excellent job as always, I'm sure they are very pleased with the results and they can't wait to refill the bird feeder.
Oh dear, that would have been horrific. Fortunately, it was just my camera that took the beating 😅 he was a total gentleman, and he kept coming out to check I was OK 😁 It's hilarious what you said about the bird feeders, I'd meant to take some with me as I buy it in bulk for my garden. I was going to fill them up, but I totally forgot to take the birdseed with me 😫
It's sometimes harder to keep a small space neat than a larger one. I'm so glad you could help them sort out their garden & enjoy it rather than having it as a constant worry. As always, you did a thorough, careful job of clearing it up with a great result!
Thanks, Teresa 😊 your always so kind 😊 I'm going to make a few little changes to this garden, as I think it'll be a nightmare to keep the weeds down. I'd like it to be mainly a lawn mow garden. With plant maintenance only a few time a year. But I'm still working on the plan 😅
Nice job Martin! The elderly owners must have been really relieved to see their garden under control again. I am a retired gardener and worked mainly for elderly and disabled people. I know the stress that an overgrown garden causes them. I do hope the family attend to it regularly for them. 👍
Thanks 😁 😊 Great work on helping other people out, well done 👍 good gardeners will always be in demand. Even when we retire! 😂 I hope I'll be doing it until they put me in a box 😂
I really enjoyed that. It’s so good seeing actual gardening being done too. That garden will look fantastic when it’s planted. You really did a beautiful job. Bless you. Please take care of yourself
A lovely job. Those beautifully clear borders are all ready for a few new plants. I hope their relative who continues to care for the garden puts a stepping stone down for them to access the lawn as it’s clearly tricky for them to step over the soil.
That's a great idea 👍 although what will probably end up happening is getting rid totally of the really small borders. Just way too hard to maintain. I'd also suggested some ground cover plants for the larger borders. Trying to cover up some of the bare soil 🤞 Thanks for the comment 😊 Much appreciated.
Great stuff. I would suggest to the old couple they consider replacing the soil border with some nice gravel (laid over some sharp sand and a weed membrane) so that things don't get as unruly in the future if they're unable to tend to their backyard. It would only require a quick mowing of the lawn to get their space looking nice and neat again.
I think that the biggest problem with gardens, especially small ones, is underestimating: 1. How quickly they can get out of control. 2. How long it takes to restore them. 3. How much effort it takes to maintain them. Nice transformation!
You're totally right on all counts 😅👍 People forget how quickly things grow when the soil is warm, the sun is shining, and the rain is frequent. I much admit, I sometimes forget until the end of spring. Then it's all guns, a blazing 😂
Martin I am fast becoming hooked watching your videos! I loved watching you re-do this garden for the elderly couple. It was so neat and tidy and all ready for their grandson to do his thing! You are a true master gardener, the only one I’ve found on RUclips to watch. Your manual edger is amazing! 👍Your close up/slow motion hand weed pulling in this video was fun to watch! I gasped when the elderly man grabbed the tripod; I was afraid he fell. Was happy you told us all was OK! You were so kind and gentle with him, showed the kind person you are. 😊 See you next video! Watching and enjoying from Texas 🇺🇸
Oh, yeah. The same as me, I thought he was going to fall over 😫 fortunately, he was actually more steady than he appeared, and he wouldn't let me help him either 😂 but if you can't be stubborn at 95, what can you be 😁 Thank you so much for the lovely comment. You are too kind. I'm honestly not that good, really. I just love gardening, and although I do this for a living (as well as doing free work) I'd still only class myself as an "experienced amateur" 😅 and I'm probably a little old fashioned too, preferring traditional manual tools to power tools. But I shall still accept the lovely comment 😁😊 Thanks again Martin.
Happy Saturday Martin! Fantastic job on the little garden for the elderly couple! You are a very kind person and it shows 😊. I love to weed-eat by hand; it is very satisfying. Have a wonderful weekend. Take care and God bless you and your family. Sincerely, Diane from Missouri 😊
Hi Diane 👋 😊 thank you. I had a lovely weekend, thank you. It's been very hot today, so paddling pool and the BBQ came out 😅 the kids loved it. I hope you had a lovely weekend, too 😊 All the best Martin.
I've never seen a hand trowel with a 90 degree handle like that before. Seeing you use it, it makes a lot of sense. A good upgrade for my shed. I'll look it up!
It is incredible that the couple are in their 90s ❤❤❤ Bless them. Given their ages, less is best in this situation. They have a nice bit of lawn to maintain. Maybe some mulch to give a little pop around the edges
I agree, and I love that saying 😁 less is best. I think a few little alterations and it'll be relatively low maintenance. Like getting rid of the tiny borders, maybe just turf over and keeping the one big one, and mulching the rest. I'll probably be back to do just that, I hate unfinished work 😂
Oh, yeah. He was chuffed to bits. He told me it'd not looked like that for a while 😅 He was a lovely gentleman. I jist hope the grandson can keep it up to scratch now. I'll be checking up on him 😂
Such a fancing new opening and closing! Another great job. You have made it so easy for the family member to take over caring for this garden. I did think that maybe there needs to be a paver from each of the two paths across the garden strips onto the lawn so that once the gardens are beautiful again it is safe for the garden owners to access the lawn safely and go see the wonderful up close.
Indeed I have, did you like the new intro? 😁 I'm still experimenting. Excellent suggestions as always, I recommend that they do away with the two really thin borders and just carry on with the turf all the way across. There will certainly be a lot of weeding to do unless a few alterations are made. Did you see the two clematis growing on the ground with no trellis? 😅
I did not notice the clematis. Support will be recommended no doubt. Hopefully not flimsy gone in 2 years trellis. Yes I liked the bookending, its clear who you are watching, and good branding to build recognition.
Greetings Canada 😊👋 It's funny you should say that, the older I get the less weeds are bothering me. I was staring at a dandelion the other week. And I was just contemplating how beautiful they were 😁 or maybe I just had sun stroke 😅
In my experience sadly i see the biggest challenge as being getting the grandchildren to turn up. I feel a big shopping trip coming on for them. Im assuming they are usually into annuals. Excellent job and I know they will appreciate all you do. The best generation to work for.
Thank you 👍 😊 they are definitely good to work for. Lots of knowledge and experience to learn from. The lady did mention that there used to be more plants in, so I'm guessing you're right and probably had bedding plants in. I didn't see the slightest sign of anything, though. Other than the peony and a few clematis and the litte euonomus shrubs. I'll suggest a few things when I nip back, they had a little front garden that needed a little TLC to 😁👍 Thanks for the comment Martin.
Love your work. Love seeing English gardens beautifying. But I’m afraid I should be in my garden doing something. Soon, soon. You are a true inspiration. 👍🇦🇺🦘
Indeed you should!! Go out and get some gardening done 😁 you can always watch me later when it's raining 😂 I'm glad to be a little inspiration to you 😊 All the best Martin
You are bang on the money there. It'll be very tough without a few alterations. There are way too many bare earth borders. Thank you 👍 😊 if I had a gold star, I'd give you one 😁
What a great video! Your work is great! You asked what the next gardener might have a problem with in the garden? I should imagine it is how to get the riding mower through such a small gate! LOL! Thanks for sharing! George from Florida, USA
Haha, cheers, George 🍻 😊 I bet some gardeners would get a ride on through the gate...literally, and the fence as well 😂 personally I still mow really big lawns with the little mower. It's a lovely walk, and it keeps me fit 😅 I'd be a right chunky monkey otherwise, because I really like my food as well. Hope you're doing well, George All the best Martin
Martian, what a great job you did. The next fella shouldn’t have any problems. The beds were just mostly filled with weeds. I have some extra hosta I would share for the bed along the fence. That would be pretty. You even had some nettles too. Love your videos. 😊
Thank you 😊 🙏 yeah, those thistles were very spikey. The went straight through the gloves 😂 and even the trousers' legs when I walked past. I had my vengeance in the end, though 😂
Haha, we are a rare breed 😁 I have always found it very relaxing. And there is no better way to get to "know" a garden, than getting down on bended knee and getting stuck in 😅👍
My next door neighbour is 93 and been having two different gardeners every week. Beautiful large garden. She was still managing it beautifully up till the last 10 years apart from having hedges trimmed and trees pruned. You've done a great job there and I hope the grandson keeps his word. ..
Best to pave the whole garden.... I did this after 3 decades of lawn mowing every year ....now have a beautiful red and grey paved garden with flower pots...😊 you did an amazing job!!! 😊
People with paved, artificial, graveled etc etc gardens should just go and live in a tower block or on a boat. Pointless having a garden, may as well go and sit in the middle of the street.
Thanks 😁 I didn't do them too straight, as in all likelihood they'll be getting some turf on to make it easier to look after the garden. Or at least those tiny little borders will 👍 Thanks again Martin
Well done. You have the same trowel as me. I also have the large shovel and fork from same company. Love the serrated edge to cut through stubborn roots. 👏🐸
This is a beautiful little garden and you have made it a nice little place that the couple can now sit in and enjoy. Seeing you pulling those weeds out of the lawn reminds me of doing the same thing a few weeks ago. Similar sized lawn to this garden and we had huge Dandelion weeds 'about eleven of them' to pull out of the grass. The roots were near a foot long on some of them. I put some grass seed down and it is looking a lot better now. You are a kind and caring man Martin, keep up your excellent work. God bless this couple and yourself.
Haha, me too sometimes. I like wild gardens myself, but more people prefer something a little more conventional. I think the best of both worlds is possible.
@@martinthegardenguy Great respect for people like your and if there were more people like you in our society things would be so much kinder and better.
Thank you 👍 😊 You're right. The soil edges are gonna be quite high maintenance. I've suggested a few little alterations to make it lower maintenance, but still lovely. Thanks again Martin
Neat job Martin! I would think one of the worst problems in this or any other garden, mine included, is the size of the taproots on the thistles etc. But now what a neat little garden so the grandson has hopefully an easy job keeping it tidy.
Oh, yeah. They can be a problem. Fortunately, I pulled the ones up in this garden. So I'm hopeful they don't come back 😅 which they shouldn't, it the lawn is mowed regular.🤞 The main issue I was talking about, was the large areas of bare soil. Which will be a total weed magnet without a few alterations to the garden. I'm the same as you, hoping the grandson can keep on top of it 😅
Nicely done … I think the main problem will be for the grandson to plant up the now empty flowerbeds with something reasonable that he can actually maintain. He sure needs some advice. And that lawn. Considering all the different s pieces in it that will grow at different speed he’d better set up a schedule with weekly checks or it will be full of weeds again.
Yes, you're totally right. Some of the borders (especially the tiny little one) could probably be returned to grass. And keep the bigger ones for plants. I'll give the lad a few pointers 😁😅 Thanks for the comment 👍 Martin.
Wonderful job! But those gardenbeds are going to be the bane of the next gardener's life. He'll need a whipper-snipper, a good eye and heaps of love for the couple living here and muscles.
Lovely job! Keeping those beds at the perimeter free of weeds will take a bit of work. Some mulch might help.❤ New subscriber watching from Syracuse, New York.
You're totally right 😊👍 either mulch or some smart planting with ground cover. Although I think the smallest borders should probably just be grassed over 😅 their not big enough to do much with. P.s. Agreed. Need some weed barrier and rock or bark mulch over those areas. Then can pop some plant pots on top!
Ground covering plants, but where its narrow you then have to keep trimming them back within bounds. Violets would do well under the plum.

Well done and very kind and courteous to his customers. Garden looks great after the makeover.
Great job tidying up this couple's backyard. I'm sure they are very happy looking out & seeing how nice it now looks. Thank you for your kindness.
Thank you for watching 😊 I really appreciate it.
They were very happy, fortunately, they still couldn't believe I finished it off 😅
There’s something so wonderful seeing your videos - you know plants and what they need along with what the homeowner needs too. Some mulch in the flower beds would help new flowers stand out and keep the weeds at bay. Love the idea of a trio of flowers in the front of the shed 😊.
I love the idea of mulch 😊👍 and plants.
There have been some other fantastic suggestions, I'm going to start crowd sourcing my ideas more often 😂😊
A Great Job and I am sure that elderly couple would have been delighted with the result ......there are genuinely good people not motivated by selfishness
Oh, thank you 😊 🙏
That was very kind of you.
I hope you enjoyed the video.
Martin.
Once again wonderful work with so much attention to nature's children. Perfect outcome!
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏 a truly lovely comment.
It's always much appreciated.
What an amazing transformation. It was so satisfying to see the weeds removed carefully & the borders tendered to. I have a lot of moss in my lawn this year & wondered how to tackle it. Thank you 👍
Hi 👋 thanks for the comment 😊
As for your moss problem:
Always think of moss in the lawn as a symptom of a problem. Instead of the problem itself. It's quite easy to get rid of in most lawns. If I know a little bit about the lawn. I'm an organic gardener, though, so I don't use magic lotions and potions on mine 😂
Tell me what you can about your lawn, is it sunny, shady, clay or sandy soil.
(A must, for heavy clay soil)
4.feed the lawn, use anything, it doesn't have to be lawn food. I use liquid seaweed or tomato food. Because they are very cheap (some gardens would blow their top about this) but food is food to a plant 😂
And if it's really compact soil, jist use a garden fork to looked it up a little to get some air to the grass roots.
To top it all off, grass is actually a very thuggy and tough plant. Hardly anything can out compete it. But it does like to be happy. Tick all of its boxes, and it should be fine 😁
Improving Drainage in soil takes a while, it's not an overnight solution. But it's easy to sweep over sand a few times a year. This'll probably do more to solve the issue than anything else.
I'm an organic gardener, so I never use the chemicals solutions that are often touted as the cure by companies.
Longest comment ever! 😂
Martin.
Thank you so much Martin for taking the time to leave me some advice. I really do appreciate it 😊👍🙏
Gute Arbeit, schön dass es Menschen wie dich gibt. Gruß aus Deutschland
Hello Germany 🇩🇪 😊 thank you for the lovely comment.
18:30
i just needed to laugh so much when he tried to hold himself at the camera :D
Well done buddie you did a thorough job
What a lovely video, no background music (until the end!) just watching you work your magic and listening to the wind blow. I haven’t cut my grass at all this year. It’s waist high at least. Wish me luck for the weekend🥴
Oh dear 😅 best of luck 👍
The wild life will be grateful for the later than normal cut. Don't worry, more people should do the same thing 😊
Keep an eye out for frogs 😅
You are truly a full-service lawncare guy! Every blade of grass was addressed and the bedding areas were immaculate. Impressive enough that you have a new subscriber! Thanks for sharing!
Well, a super big thank you for subscribing. It's very much appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
I love that you the weeds instead of just using a weed wacker, it looks so much nicer.
Super job. Amazing to do all that in 4 hours.
Bet the lovely couple felt very pleased after this 🎉😂😊
I love that you actually weed a garden not just whipper snip. Very Very good job ❤🎉
Hope there will be a Martin taking care of my garden when I get older ❤
Me too 😂 my back and knees already ache a lot of the time 😁
Oh geez, I underwent knee and wrist surgery last year but I kept cracking against all odds! The garden needs me - but I also need my garden 😊
It looks like really good soil!
Yes people underestimate how much work a garden requires.
I looove watching hand weeding. ❤️ Great job. 👍
DITTO!!!!! 💛🖤💛
Fortunately for me, I love weeding 😅 it's so relaxing.
Like a visual asmr? I find this whole video very relaxing to be honest, which is probably a good reminder for me to get out in the garden and do some actual gardening but I do find it relaxing 👍🏽
After this wonderful job,the Gardener carried out,i'm sure the pensioners will sleep well. Little things make a massive differance...Well done..
Me too, they were discussing going to the garden centre last time I saw them 😊👍Hopefully I will get chance to get back and check up on them 🤞
Greetings Martin, from the PNW!
(Was I the only one who wanted a look-see inside the little gray shed?)
Watching you is so therapeutic, Martin, as you work your way around the garden, constantly in touch with everything that surrounds you.
Plus, I find them extremely easy to get along with, plus the added bonus of just helping out another human being 😅
P.s no, I also wanted to look in the shed 😂 I just forgot.
Well done. 👍🏼
Beautiful video Martin ,thank you.
I feel that you took a load of the elderly couples mind, which in itself can be supportive for their health.
Liked and subscribed 🌿
Thank you ☺️ very much appreciated.
I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍
I'm glad the gentleman was okay, for a second I thought he went down along with the tripod 😅 Excellent job as always, I'm sure they are very pleased with the results and they can't wait to refill the bird feeder.
Oh dear, that would have been horrific. Fortunately, it was just my camera that took the beating 😅 he was a total gentleman, and he kept coming out to check I was OK 😁
It's hilarious what you said about the bird feeders, I'd meant to take some with me as I buy it in bulk for my garden. I was going to fill them up, but I totally forgot to take the birdseed with me 😫
Thinking the same thing. Hopefully the grandson or great grandson can clean and refill them.
I don't want to overloaded the boy with work 😂 I'll zip down and disinfect and refill them.
I know it's been done then 😅
Lovely. Wouldn't it be lovely If everyone chipped in and got them some beautiful flowers. Happy Weekend.
It's sometimes harder to keep a small space neat than a larger one. I'm so glad you could help them sort out their garden & enjoy it rather than having it as a constant worry. As always, you did a thorough, careful job of clearing it up with a great result!
Thanks, Teresa 😊 your always so kind 😊
I'm going to make a few little changes to this garden, as I think it'll be a nightmare to keep the weeds down. I'd like it to be mainly a lawn mow garden. With plant maintenance only a few time a year.
But I'm still working on the plan 😅
What a smashing job you have done. You should be proud of yourself.xx
Thank you. It's super kind of you to say so ☺️
Nice job Martin! The elderly owners must have been really relieved to see their garden under control again. I am a retired gardener and worked mainly for elderly and disabled people. I know the stress that an overgrown garden causes them. I do hope the family attend to it regularly for them. 👍
Thanks 😁 😊
Great work on helping other people out, well done 👍 good gardeners will always be in demand. Even when we retire! 😂
I hope I'll be doing it until they put me in a box 😂
I really enjoyed that. It’s so good seeing actual gardening being done too. That garden will look fantastic when it’s planted. You really did a beautiful job. Bless you. Please take care of yourself
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏
I do so like your lovely comments 😁 thank you for taking the time. It's truly appreciated.
Thank you
Wow how I wish there was someone in uk like you doing the same thing….good on ya!
I'm in the U.K 😂 I work in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.
So nice of you to do this for this elderly couple. God bless you xx❤
Thank you, very kind of you 😊👍
Such attention to detail !!
Oh, thanks 😊 although in truth, I'm in total autopilot most of the time, so I'm not actually paying much attention 😅 😁
Trying to cover up some of the bare soil 🤞
Thanks for the comment 😊
Much appreciated.
What a grafter, nothing wrong with this guys knees, deserves every penny he earns great video, all the best to you
Thank you 😊👍
You are a kind man....great job!
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏 that's mighty kind of you. It's much appreciated 😊
Great idea 👍☺️ it's pretty much what I suggested to them.
Great minds, think alike 😅
Great work Martin - more people like you are needed
A top gardener and a really lovely man as well.
I wish you every success. You deserve it.
I think that the biggest problem with gardens, especially small ones, is underestimating: 1. How quickly they can get out of control. 2. How long it takes to restore them. 3. How much effort it takes to maintain them. Nice transformation!
You're totally right on all counts 😅👍
People forget how quickly things grow when the soil is warm, the sun is shining, and the rain is frequent.
I much admit, I sometimes forget until the end of spring. Then it's all guns, a blazing 😂
Like my one,.now its taking ages to sort out and will need co stant maintenance to.not repeat makeover every year
@@martinthegardenguyRight now I could do with a bit of rain. I'm wilting with the plants😅😅😅😅
See you next video! Watching and enjoying from Texas 🇺🇸
Oh, yeah. The same as me, I thought he was going to fall over 😫 fortunately, he was actually more steady than he appeared, and he wouldn't let me help him either 😂 but if you can't be stubborn at 95, what can you be 😁
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. You are too kind. I'm honestly not that good, really. I just love gardening, and although I do this for a living (as well as doing free work) I'd still only class myself as an "experienced amateur" 😅 and I'm probably a little old fashioned too, preferring traditional manual tools to power tools.
But I shall still accept the lovely comment 😁😊
Thanks again
Martin.
I hope you had a lovely weekend, too 😊
All the best
Martin.
I've never seen a hand trowel with a 90 degree handle like that before. Seeing you use it, it makes a lot of sense. A good upgrade for my shed. I'll look it up!
I somehow missed this comment.
They are made by Roamwild in the UK.
I believe some are on Amazon, though, if you look 👍
It is incredible that the couple are in their 90s ❤❤❤ Bless them. Given their ages, less is best in this situation. They have a nice bit of lawn to maintain. Maybe some mulch to give a little pop around the edges
I agree, and I love that saying 😁 less is best.
I think a few little alterations and it'll be relatively low maintenance. Like getting rid of the tiny borders, maybe just turf over and keeping the one big one, and mulching the rest.
I'll probably be back to do just that, I hate unfinished work 😂
What a Lovely job you have done for the old man Bless him Bet he was so pleased .
Oh, yeah. He was chuffed to bits. He told me it'd not looked like that for a while 😅
He was a lovely gentleman.
I jist hope the grandson can keep it up to scratch now. I'll be checking up on him 😂
Great Job, I hope the grandsons put in some new plants along the fence & wall and feed the lawn.
Lovely pocket garden! I think the hard part will be deciding what to plant in the flower beds….
That was nice you could put a sense of order back in their garden and make it an enjoyable, and maintainable space.
Oh, thanks 😊 🙏 it's certainly a blank slate now. With a little planning, it should be wonderful.
Great job , thank you for helping this old couple 👏👏👍🌟🌟
Thank you 👍 😊
I'll never tire of reading nice comments like this 😁
I believe if weeds were flowers we'd all have beautiful gardens 😂. Great job Martin 👏 looks awesome. ❤ from Canada 🇨🇦
Greetings Canada 😊👋
It's funny you should say that, the older I get the less weeds are bothering me. I was staring at a dandelion the other week. And I was just contemplating how beautiful they were 😁 or maybe I just had sun stroke 😅
The garden looks so inviting! Lovely job!
Thank you very much.
Truly, it's very much appreciated 😊
I'll suggest a few things when I nip back, they had a little front garden that needed a little TLC to 😁👍
Thanks for the comment
Martin.
Love your work. Love seeing English gardens beautifying. But I’m afraid I should be in my garden doing something. Soon, soon. You are a true inspiration. 👍🇦🇺🦘
Indeed you should!! Go out and get some gardening done 😁 you can always watch me later when it's raining 😂
I'm glad to be a little inspiration to you 😊
All the best
Martin
Martin the Garden is looking good. Hope the grandson keeps up with the weeding.👏👍😀
Me too, I'll be back to check up on him! 😂
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed the video.
Martin.
I do believe keeping the beds weeded will be his biggest challenge. Great job!👏
Hope you're doing well, George
All the best
Martin
Good job Martin. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy watching. Catch you next time 😊😊
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏 see you on the next one. Thank you for watching
This was so satisfying to watch...I too like hand weeding 😮
Haha, we are a rare breed 😁 I have always found it very relaxing. And there is no better way to get to "know" a garden, than getting down on bended knee and getting stuck in 😅👍
My next door neighbour is 93 and been having two different gardeners every week. Beautiful large garden. She was still managing it beautifully up till the last 10 years apart from having hedges trimmed and trees pruned. You've done a great job there and I hope the grandson keeps his word.
..
Thank you 👍 😊
I hope he does too, other wise I'll have to go back and do it again in a few months 😅
They don’t tend to in my experience.
Lovely job, Martin. I'm glad to see you.
Cheers, thanks for watching 👍 much appreciated.
Wow! What a transformation..looks so much better 😊
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏 💓
Best to pave the whole garden....
Each unto their own I say, I love things that grow, and only need a little hard area for seating. But that's just me ☺️
Lovely job Martin love the edges 👍🤩
Thanks 😁 I didn't do them too straight, as in all likelihood they'll be getting some turf on to make it easier to look after the garden.
Or at least those tiny little borders will 👍
Thanks again
Martin
I should'nt watch these
"makeovers".
I usually prefere the " before " . 🌿
Haha, me too sometimes. I like wild gardens myself, but more people prefer something a little more conventional. I think the best of both worlds is possible.
@@martinthegardenguy Great respect for people like your and if there were more people like you in our society things would be so much kinder and better.
That's a super kind thing to say ☺️🙏
So beautiful! 💚 I think that dirt edge is going to be the hardest to maintain. All in all though, now that you're done, it will be so much easier.
Thank you 👍 😊
You're right. The soil edges are gonna be quite high maintenance. I've suggested a few little alterations to make it lower maintenance, but still lovely.
Thanks again
Martin
You worked so hard...Great Job! 👍👍 I'm sure the couple were pleased!
So I'm hopeful they don't come back 😅 which they shouldn't, it the lawn is mowed regular.🤞
The main issue I was talking about, was the large areas of bare soil. Which will be a total weed magnet without a few alterations to the garden.
I'm the same as you, hoping the grandson can keep on top of it 😅
Здравствуйте! Очень нравится Ваша работа! Вы большой молодец! Здоровья и здоровья! С уважением, 😊!
Wow, thank you 😊 🙏
All the best to you as well.
Martin
You have done an amazing job !!!! The garden looks amazing💯😎❤️👍👏👏👏👏
Love watching these videos there's always a good result at the end great job
I like all your edging tools snippers and half moon tool! The elderly man wanted to see what you were up to young man!
Looks good! Thanks for helping this couple!
I'll give the lad a few pointers 😁😅
Thanks for the comment 👍
Martin.
Beautiful job Martin. Your a good man.👏👏👍🏻
Fantastic job,, thanks for posting.. I am not 90 but for me its the borders that a bit of a struggle.
Looks amazing.
Oh, thank you 😊 🙏 It was a nice little garden. The plum tree is covered in yummy plums. I think they need more plants, though 😁
Wonderful job! But those gardenbeds are going to be the bane of the next gardener's life. He'll need a whipper-snipper, a good eye and heaps of love for the couple living here and muscles.
Couldn't agree more 👍 although the last I heard, the grandson was doing a good job. Long may it continue ☺️
P.s. Thanks for subscribing, I hope you enjoyed the video. And a super big greeting to New York from Nottingham 😊
