The basic Champ was my first ever bird. To my surprise, I learned on it without breaking it - and it still flies after all these years :) . What a cool little bird it is.
Thanks to flite Test, you guys helped inspire me to having Rc flight be a major part of my Life, wouldn't have been able to have this passion without you guys, thanks so much.
Thank you @FliteTest for leading me into this wonderful hobby. I had no idea what I'ed want to do when I grow up but now I know. I have dreams of becoming a commercial pilot. And it's all thanks to everyone at Flitetest.
I've been wanting to get my son a little trainer to get him started. I like all of the safety features. I know how he is and I'm sure he will want to go out without me and my buddy box while I'm at work. The Champ looks like a good starting point for him. Thanks for the posts and keeping this AWESOME hobby alive.
Hi Josh, I met you and David with your camera man at the NEAT fair some time ago. You were astonished that my wife made me a Flite Test jacket by hand! I'm still watching you and want to thank you for years of pleasure watching you! This video was wonderful! Ron
Wish I was faster the logo at 6:24 was a cool idea, and it's completely awesome that Josh's wonderful wife takes part in this video, my daughter likes to fly with me but didn't think many women were involved in the hobby!!!!!! Thank you FliteTest!!!
The Champ S+ was my first RC plane (apart from a gas trainer I had as a kid that never flew) and it still is the only one I have. I love it to bits and the SAFE mode is really great - I've not only used it to learn the basics, but also twice now to safely get back in shape after the winter. The GPS function has mostly caused me problems though. I lost the first Champ after a couple of flights due to a GPS error which caused it to just fly away over the horizon. There's a quick bind to turn off the GPS system in flight, but the Champ was out of range before I understood what was going on. Never saw it again. I had to contact the seller and get a replacement. The replacement then was flown into a phone line by the auto pilot when the geo fence kicked in (I was flying quite low at that point.) After that, I got a Spectrum transmitter and disabled the GPS for good.
I've got the Old Version of the Champ and I crashed it and the wing broke I have bought a new wing 2 weeks ago and they still can't get one. are the spare parts for the Old Version still being sold? I Hope someone can Help me out (sorry about my English)
Thanks so much TGivler! WE love jen and we love when family gets to fly with us!! That is what FT is all about..flying with friends and family!! ;) Thanks for watching! S.O.
This looks perfect for a true beginner. The price might be high for a small plane but the features are what make impossible to beat at that price range. I bought the Sport Cub S because of Flite Test recommendation (and because my LHS had the BNF for $95) and it was a great buy. However it does not have a brusless motor or geo fencing or auto landing. Totally worth the extra 30 bucks over the Cub RTF for a true beginner.
I know you live in America but could you please make a vidio on EASA's new prototype roule that is too restrictive for our hobby. You can get the community involed because you have a lot o viewrs. Anyway thanks
Another great video! Just wondering why the back ground music is so loud recently? I often find it distracting due to seemingly equal volume to the talking. Keep up the great work guys!
I agree. The music has become slightly annoying and distracting. Please turn down the music. It's hard to hear what's being said. Thanks for all the great videos!!
Nice review! The new Champ S+, like many other HH planes, is another champ! Well done! Great to see your beautiful wife Josh Bixler! Flying is family. I haven't been watching Flite Test as much lately, and I noticed something significant about this episode... JOSH SCOTT IS BAAAACKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think Jen has a weird glass prescription, I used to have those prism glasses too. It was the coolest thing when I actually had surgery to correct my eyes. I was somewhere around 18 years old when I got my eyes "fixed". I was the oldest patient the surgeon had ever done that procedure on. I totally get her eyes. I'm glad she can fly with those eyes!
I find it amazing that people feel this is too expensive. Seriously for $169 you get what is possibly the most advanced trainer ever,is FPV ready,GPS enabled, gyro stabilized and has features and capabilities never seen in another trainer before. Not to mention it includes everything else you need to get going successfully in the hobby including the radio, battery charger etc.
I turned off the geo-fencing very early on as it was very limiting. With a decent transmitter, range is not a problem and hitting the panic button brings it back to loiter mode even in experienced mode. I can't recommend it highly enough as a beginner to intermediate trainer. The only downside I have found is that if there is a more that a puff of wind it can be quite exciting to fly in advanced mode :). Putting a small weight on the nose helps penetration. I moved to this after my dog eat my Sport S and I have zero regrets. I am now ready to move on to a bigger plane - a Chris Foss Wot 4, just waiting in the wings (pardon the pun).
The Flite Test Logo is viewable at 6:24 on the grass but it is also viewable on top of the table at 8:57 not sure if that one was intentional but it is there...
Been flying 3 days now and here's my flight log... Day 1 of flight training: Performed several cool looking stunts I did not mean to do. Crashed and snapped a wing. Glued back together. Day 2 of flight training: Took off and managed to fly like I was watching someone else cuz I have no orientation yet then promptly executed a precision tree landing. Day 3: hopping it falls out of the tree.
For anyone who gets the RTF version: The transmitter that comes with the RTF is OK, but the power level of the transmitter is very low. I found that putting the transmitter horizontal may be comfortable, BUT results in the airplane losing the signal and going into the holding pattern. You can avoid this by keeping the transmitter as vertical as possible. The amount of power that comes from the tip of the antenna on the transmitter is VERY weak and if you point the tip of the antenna at the airplane, a drop out in signal occurs. The plane is wonderful to fly and a lot of fun. It really is an ideal beginner plane.
Hi Josh, you mentioned the Sportsman S+. May I encourage you to review the updated version? I would like to know how it compares to the original, especially the GPS calibration procedure and how well and how accurately the GPS-reliant features work. Thanks. God bless brother.
just took my champ s+ out for the first time. I was able to figure it out pretty easily. It does seem to have too much up elevator. Maybe thats because I was in beginner mode?
Quite nice technology in that model. But what puts me off is the DSM2/DSMX customer lock-in since the flight computer, receiver, and servos are all built into 1 board. I'll buy their models only if I can use my own brand/protocol receivers, my favourite being FrSky. They should add an SBUS or CPPM input plug to their boards allowing the optional use of external receivers.
So I've watched this video after getting one at our local hobby store. I really like the set up so I was thinking about buying spare parts and seen there is a plug for an additional servo. I can't find anything on it. I was also thinking these parts may be good for some scratch builds for the kids. Any thoughts on what the extra ports are, also love to see something moded on the champ S+ duel motors larger motor I'm not picky lol.
I like the return to home feature. Have you ever been lost fpv? It sucks. My sport cub s doesn't change a brushless either. Only thing about these planes is windy days and the auto climb when throttling up a lot. I added nose weight and now it does fly level at full throttle. Should work with the champ also.
Cool, sounds like Jen has the same eyes I have. I have to use a prism too. I can't see with fat sharks or under a hood. I would be interested what she does to correct it for FPV. Thanks Charlie
I have a question on the virtual fence. If you turn it off does it stay off or do you have to turn it off every time? I'm asking this because I am using a DX8 and the virtual fence would be an irritation when flying fpv. Thanks.
I'd like to order one from your store but every time I hit checkout it says my cart is empty. This happened the last time I tried to order something and they fixed it. I don't know what they did to fix it then but it isn't working now. :-(
hi new to planes looking to buy first one .. them ribbons coming of the back is that home made ? or can you buy them for each planes ? what are they called? cheers
Hey can you make a video on replacing the fuselage of the champ s+ I crashed my champ s+ and I can't seem to find a video on how to replace any damaged parts
Hi sir...very helpful video. I have too champ S bnf and I'm using dx8 Gen2 transmitter, But I want to assign switch AUX1 on 1 for holding pattern and AUX1 on 2 for Auto Landing. Now please guide me how I can assign switch for that features. Thanks
Do you think you could build a full-on gunship? Like a cargo plane with guns sticking out the sides. I have very little tech experience myself but it would be EPIC if you did something like this.
petersripol is hiis yt channal name. He is the real brain. I want to see so much more from him his humor and attitude are just amazing! Best regards from germany
Hey guys another great video and cant wait for more. The whole Flite Test team is a daily inspiration to me, Thank you. So with that I do have a question. I am really into LARGE scale planes and I really like your scratch built line. How about a Large scale build like Peters Guinea. I think there are a lot of enthusiasts that could benefit from a larger plane design. Plus I would love to see what you guys can do after seeing the Flugtag plane. Your team is highly talented and we as an audience are proud and happy to have you guys.
Why is it that everything really fun can be and usually is so expensive (Think about it, EVERYTHING.)? I'm talking about the plane is around $200 dollars, but then to add the POV or other accessories cost as much or more than the plane itself.
I have a question and complaint. I think that the FT Store should select everything necessary to get the model flying, and an option to remove/edit your order. I think it would help people that are new to RC flying. (In other words, it would help me). :)
Walter's Fishing corner they featured it in a vlog but haven't had a committed episode to it covering the pros and cons of it compared to say a built tiny whoop

Wish I was faster the logo at 6:24 was a cool idea, and it's completely awesome that Josh's wonderful wife takes part in this video, my daughter likes to fly with me but didn't think many women were involved in the hobby!!!!!! Thank you FliteTest!!!
so glad you guys did a video on this you do great videos! Going to plan on getting this in the spring for my 6 year old

Loving having videos in my feed from FT every time I turn around!
haha Thanks for the kind words Lee!
Glad to be able to provide that for yall! Thanks for watching!

How did you do the time lapse intro on Vlog 18?
really nice episode.please do more like this.Your last few have been solid so keep it up
I love it when you guys bring in family to fly on the videos...Good job
Thanks so much TGivler! WE love jen and we love when family gets to fly with us!! That is what FT is all about..flying with friends and family!! ;)

Awesome Review! I still have my original champ from 4 years ago! I still love to fly it! Champ plus may have to be added to the hanger someday. :-)
It's great to see Josh S. back.

Do you guys have to run one word into the other? I only speak English and it's hard to understand you
I think their speed in speech is often due to the honest joy and excitement they get when doing some of the stuff.
Nice review! The new Champ S+, like many other HH planes, is another champ! Well done! Great to see your beautiful wife Josh Bixler! Flying is family.

Bringing out the Triple J's. Love it!
Hey why don't you guys cut a dirt strip in the back for your fixed wings? Love your channel!
The last HZ Champ video was the first FT video I watched! Nostalgia!
6:24 on the ground by the plane
BEN RIGNEY it is
Damn, I was 8 hours late :D
...and right in front of his foot it looks like a syringe.

SWEET! love it! ha
Thanks for being a part of it! Couldn't do it without you and the rest of the awesome community!
Blessings,

FliteTest dude, what is that controller? it looks like an Xbox controller and it would help so much instead of relearning how to control a plane
We need more Jen in the episodes!
I love that woman!!!!
I just saw this and was like... dude leave Josh's woman alone! Then I realized it was you and thought, oh, ok then. :)
It was nice to meet you at AMA Expo Jen!
Hi Josh, you mentioned the Sportsman S+. May I encourage you to review the updated version? I would like to know how it compares to the original, especially the GPS calibration procedure and how well and how accurately the GPS-reliant features work. Thanks. God bless brother.
I just bought a champ S plus and it will not connect, it is flashing red and green the transmitter is solid red... please help me!!!v
just took my champ s+ out for the first time. I was able to figure it out pretty easily. It does seem to have too much up elevator. Maybe thats because I was in beginner mode?
One at 6:24. I love the Josh Scott is back. I wish he was in more episodes.
Ahh! What camera are you using for fpv view and for filming? Two differennt camera's?
Quite nice technology in that model. But what puts me off is the DSM2/DSMX customer lock-in since the flight computer, receiver, and servos are all built into 1 board.
I'll buy their models only if I can use my own brand/protocol receivers, my favourite being FrSky. They should add an SBUS or CPPM input plug to their boards allowing the optional use of external receivers.
This is more for us beginners who don't have anything yet
you can also get the XK DHC-2 A600 for almost half the price and same features exept return home
So I've watched this video after getting one at our local hobby store. I really like the set up so I was thinking about buying spare parts and seen there is a plug for an additional servo. I have a question on the virtual fence. If you turn it off does it stay off or do you have to turn it off every time? I'm asking this because I am using a DX8 and the virtual fence would be an irritation when flying fpv. Thanks.
Great demo once again. Good flying Jen! Happy Flying everyone. GrampaKenCanada
The metal FliteTest logo is at 6:24 in the grass, next to the champ lying in the grass!
I don't know I've had so many bad experiences with the sport cub s should I go ahead and try using this plane instead
what would be or is this the better beginner's plane for starters??
I saw him at 6:24. Great video, I may have to get one.
on the ground next to the plan 6.23
great flying jen
I'd like to order one from your store but every time I hit checkout it says my cart is empty. This happened the last time I tried to order something and they fixed it. I don't know what they did to fix it then but it isn't working now. :-(
I am interested in trying this with my wife. Thanks for the information!
How did you film the introduction time lapse on Vlog 18. It looked really good. Did you use the DJI Go app?
Yep that was with the MAVIC and the DJI Go app! ;)
Thanks for watching!
S.O.
Thanks!!

*Cool!* :)
I've been wanting to ask, what's up with _the pile_ of dirt? :P
I liked that sweatshirt Bixler was wearing Is it on the store?
Hi sir...very helpful video.

But I want to assign switch AUX1 on 1 for holding pattern and AUX1 on 2 for Auto Landing.

What affordable transmitters are you suggesting
Would you happen to know the range on the virtual fence?
Will you guys do a review on the new Horizon Hobby UMX Cessna 182?
Do you think you could build a full-on gunship? Like a cargo plane with guns sticking out the sides. I have very little tech experience myself but it would be EPIC if you did something like this.
I'm going to crawl into a hole now.
what ever happened to Peter S? He seems to have vanished?
He got his own show
eXpire 163 what's the name
peter sripol I think
Akieba he left to help his family business but he has his own RUclips channel
petersripol is hiis yt channal name. He is the real brain. I want to see so much more from him his humor and attitude are just amazing! Best regards from germany
6:24 Would this be a good way to get into FPV?
I'm kinda curious, why is still FPV so... shitty? 1080p stereoscopic should be available by now :|
Love the video I saw the flight test guy at 6:24
ohhh found it it is beside the champ that is sitting on the ground facing away from Josh bixler 6;24 . please please select me I need this chance.
The flite test guy is at 6:24 on the ground next to the champ!!! Josh says "So Josh I get to fly FPV and chase you now right" !!!
Thought about getting it but got the the trainer last night.
6:24! Awesome episode!
Yay J Scott is back!!!
Can we place propeller size 5X3 for champ S+ ?
what kind of camera do I need for this aircraft?
flight test josh can you give me some help to activate the gear switch and mix switch on the devo 7 transmitter if it's ok
9:09 in your hand?

Review the new E-flite convergence VTOL
Thank you, great video ...
Why is it that everything really fun can be and usually is so expensive (Think about it, EVERYTHING.)? I'm talking about the plane is around $200 dollars, but then to add the POV or other accessories cost as much or more than the plane itself.
Love these guy. And lady lol. Just gone out got one. Lots off fun. Thanks
Can you guys do an episode on balsa planes - build one and do a review on it as well please
I have a question and complaint. I think that the FT Store should select everything necessary to get the model flying, and an option to remove/edit your order. I think it would help people that are new to RC flying. (In other words, it would help me).
:)
honestly it's a bit overwhelming, and there's the fact that you don't have any 9 gram servos for aircraft like the SimpleStorch
Good video as always!
looks fun! ive never flown a rc airplane
Are you going to do an episode reviewing the Inductrix FPV?
Andrew Miller they did
Walter's Fishing corner they featured it in a vlog but haven't had a committed episode to it covering the pros and cons of it compared to say a built tiny whoop
Coming soon my friends! Be on the lookout for the episode coming shortly! ;)
Thanks for watching!
S.O.
What is the ;little camera on a the plane
It is in the table on the minute 8:57
looks like it's worth checking one out
Time stamp for the logo is 6:24
can you try to fly a plane while watching into fpv goggles that are connected to a quad that is flown by someone else
what is that controller?
On the grass lower right at 6:25 is where the little gremlin is!
It is on the ground between the champ and Josh's right foot at 6:25 minutes into the video
its beside the left wing of champ on the ground @ 6:24
I wish yall could turn the drum machine down really low, or off would be better. Its really distracting trying to hear the dialogue.
You're not the only one annoyed by that repetitive and too loud drum background music that's not in the background. I prefer it off for the same reason.
6:24 next to the champ on the ground is where the logo is
6:24 on the ground in-front of the two champs!
the hidden logo is at 6:24 on the floor right next to the champ in the grass
You guys should do a 360 cam video
can you fly indoors in a1 basketball caught hall
probably, just gotta fly slow ;)
Thanks for watching!
S.O.
Next to the plain on the ground, time stamp 6:24, josh said "I'm over by the building"
