    Guy, you are (and have been for some time now) my best source for all watch talk! You're doing a fantastic job.....nobody goes into quite as much detail as you, you seem to touch on all the points us watch guys want to know. I can only say, keep up the good work and I really look forward to your future content. 👍

    Just got my new Speedmaster today. I was able to size the bracelet without having to heat up the screws. There was thread locker on the screws, but they loosened up fine. They do need to make this bracelet more micro adjust friendly, and I may go the new clasp route. I did have a Mark II a while back, and that clasp is awesome. My most pressing dilemma now is how to smuggle in the Speedmaster box into the house from the trunk of my car without my wife noticing it. That box is ridiculous.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  5 лет назад +2

      Haha good luck hiding the box. I guess you can tell her you bought new luggage.

    I never needed to heat the screws when I size these new Omega bracelets in fact I just sized one yesterday for a customer a Speed Master but it was not the Hesalite version which I've done many.
    The head of the screw has enough surface area in the slot that you can get enough torque on them to break through the thread locker, but one time Omega went to town on one and I soaked the screws in solution that I use to clean watch parts for 10 minutes or so and tried and again and it was broken loose.
    Same solution I use to loosen the screw out bolt pins on Rolex's when they are too tight. Would not recommend heating because you can singe the side of the links and it burns it blue and you have to polish the link to get it off.
    What I like to use is a watch anvil that I cover with a cotton polishing cloth so no metal to metal contact on a nice and hard flat surface. Then I use a Bergeon 2mm screw driver they cost only 10 bucks and you can sharpen them they are the best you can get. Once the screws are out I put them in a cover tray so you don't lose them along with the pins which you can push out with a long watch punch by hand no hammering needed. Using a visor or a watch loop which I wear is a must so that you can see what you are doing and I have excellent up close vision.
    Don't like to use tweezers too much, I prefer the rodico clay no chance of the screws going flying and has just enough friction to re-install them and hold them as I apply the purple thread locker. With out applying thread locker those link screws will come out eventually. Would recommend letting it dry over night up to 24 hours before wearing the watch again.

  • @gabefore

    Thanks Guy - yes, I was concerned about the bracelet. Not because of the lack of micro adjust, although now that I see that on your video that is unfortunate. But for me my wrist tends to swell a good bit throughout the day. I cannot deal with a bracelet that is too tight, yet at the same time I hate it when the watch bounces around. Even if the micro adjust is dialed in perfectly for me, that will likely change throughout the day due to swelling. The fact that you can adjust this clasp “on the fly” throughout the day makes all the difference in the world to me.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 лет назад +1

      This clasp is a must have in my opinion. I have let it in or out a click several times already just depending on the state of my wrist. Super easy to do on the fly.

    Hey Guy, congrats on the speedmaster! I bought mine about a year ago as my first luxury watch purchase and I'm glad I did. It really is an awesome watch. The bracelet is pretty nice, but one of the things that I like most about the watch is that it looks great on so many different types of straps. I usually wear mine on a nice handmade horween leather strap that is black with white stitching. It looks fantastic I think. I also wear it on different natos from time to time. I'm currently saving for my next purchase which will be a ceramic no date submariner. It's going to take a while but it'll be worth it. Then I see myself finishing off the collection one day with a Grand Seiko for my dress watch. Anyway, congrats again on the speedy, hope you enjoy it for years to come.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 лет назад

      Thanks JB. I’ll probably try it out on different straps eventually but I’m mostly a bracelet kind of guy and had to be sure to have that squared away before anything else.

    I also agree that lack of, easy, on the fly micro adjustment is unacceptable for a watch of this price. I'm glad you were able to sort it out but im really baffled by the fact that Omega does not ship these watches like this out of the factory.

    The Omega Adjustable Clasp I added to my 2254.50 SMP has been perfect and didn't require any additional OEM Omega parts. I used a cheap Chinese watch repair kit with multiple size pin pushers, a jewelers block, and an illuminated jewelers loupe I had at hand. 15 minutes max. That clasp is a huge improvement.

    “A lot of people” said you could get an adjustable clasp? I thought I was the only one. Seriously though it’s definitely worth every penny. Not sure I could buy an expensive watch without a micro adjustment at this point. For others considering this I ordered the parts through my AD and they put it on for me in about 10 minutes. Guess it depends on if you trust your AD. Wear it in good health as they say.

    Congratulations on the Speedy, Guy! I really need this for my Seamaster Pro bracelet. If I take out a link, it’s way too tight and if I put the link back in , it’s too loose. Not sure why I waited so long but ordered this clasp and links today. Cost me £300 from London omega boutique and they were really friendly but assured me they would not fit the part or guarantee it, as it’s not meant for this watch. I already have a Mitsukoshi dial and hands on mine... so the warranty ship has sailed long ago!
    Not sure how long it will take to arrive but hopefully a week or so she said. I actually prefer the look of the clasp with the polished bevelled edges and it’s longer length. It was more expensive than when you got it- I guess more people are doing it and omega put their prices up regularly (I paid £2700 for the speedy pro in 2018- it’s now £4200 rrp)
    Anyway- £300/$330 all in, not so bad for how much more wearable the watch will be. I could probably sell my old clasp for £100+ on eBay

    For those worried about water rating I wash mine with dish soap under the kitchen sink all the time. Here’s a couple tips. One, always hold it crown side down when holding it under the faucet. Also you don’t need too much water pressure, just a steady stream will do. Second, after washing or anytime it gets wet the water can sit in the crevices under the buttons. It can literally sit there for several hours. If you push one of the buttons before it dries the water will go straight into the case. Always make sure there’s no water under the buttons before pushing if the watch was wet recently.

      I can answer this. The '4666' clasp is similar to this one but is much shorter and has just 3 micro-adjust positions. I've got one on my Speedy and now it fits perfectly! I recommend highly. You'll still need new endlinks though, just like the clasp in the video.

    Very informative video. However, I believe you currently have the wrong end-link on the speedmaster. I recently went through the upgrade, and was directed to the end-link that is in this video. Noticed the fit was not fluid. Spoke to a manager at the KOP Omega boutique, and was told there is a Speedmaster end-link, and a Seamaster endlink. What you have is the Seamaster end-link. The manager installed the new part (Speedmaster endlink), and the fit was flawless. There were no jagged edges, it was slightly curved, and much shorter. I hope this post help others that are considering the upgrade.

    I really don't know what to say. You must be in love with that watch. Omega obviously knows about the problem.This is not a new design. I guess as long as people keep buying the watch as is, then fork over a couple hundred more for their better clasp, why improve the design. Any way, congrats on the new speedy.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 лет назад

      I don’t think it’s that cut and dry. They could just put the new clasp on the watch by default and raise the price, saving people the hassle of doing it after the fact. I mean they put the watch in a bigger box and raised the price, so it’s not like they shy away from that sort of thing. I don’t know why they don’t do it, but I don’t think it’s any sort of scheme to get people to buy the clasp later. Perhaps they just want the watch to be more traditional and traditionally it didn’t come with what would be described as a dive watch clasp?

    • @derekshearer9049

      Hi Guy. Not quite what l meant. You said yourself at the end of the video come on Omega get with it, but if you buy the watch and the clasp they win twice. Three times actually, they don't have to innovate. Comfort trumps tradition always. That type of clasp will soon be available on all watches sold with a bracelet. Have a lot of fun with the new watch. Companies will only change if you hit them in the wallet.

    That seems to be a perennial and perverse problem with expensive purchases. You should not have to risk damaging a new Wath using heat on it and without the expertise or Omega tools. The Rolex AD showroom manager who took a link out of my GMT-Master II used their official Rolex supplied tool box with colour coded intercchangable screw heads for around 3 different torque set screwdriver bodies. He said he used 'super-glue' cyano acrylate and I wasn't happy as you will shear off the head unscrewing it. They sometimes supply a solution which dissolves the bond, which is acetone or nail varnish remover. I think they should use grease instead, which enables a screw thread to hold the torque you put in. The GMT-Master II Easylink clasp is narrower and shorter than the Glide lock on your Submariner and makes it more comfortable to wear as it doesn't affect the flexibility of the bracelet as you have more links in. You could try an engineering shop to get someone to accurately mark the original clasp and drill several additional holes, otherwise it's like the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms you reviewed, you get it on the sail cloth strap with pin buckle.

      Thanks for watching Andrew I appreciate it. I’m sure I could have asked the dealer to install the new clasp but honestly I was confident I could do a better job without scratching the watch or messing up any screws.

    • @JustBlueFish

      Not unless they have been made available in the last year, because I called Omega directly and they said no half links exist for this bracelet.

    • @manuel_winde

      I think in the same way that the planet ocean clasp can be used some of the half links from other watches will fit but may not fully match. Omega staff will always dissuade anyone from using “franken parts” or may not know. But either way I’d rather have the adjustable clasp

    Hi - Is this available for my Seamaster 2264.50.00? It was made in 2006 but has a Speedmaster style bracelet but with pins, not screws. There no adjustment at all on the clasp, but the bracelet came with a half link. I, like you found it is too tight especially when its hot or humid outside but too loose if I put the half link in. I currently have 6 links on 1 side and 5 on the other.

    • @JustBlueFish

      I’m not sure, I don’t know the specifics on that Seamaster model. I’d say jump on the Omega forums and inquire there.

    For anyone wondering what pricing looks like these days for the parts...it has certainly come up. Just got off phone with my OB.
    Clasp- 117STZ001154 $260.XX
    118ST1589- $52.XX
    So roughly around $365.00 to get an adjustable bracelet on your Speedmaster. Give the cost of the watch, I don't think it's too hateful. Just ordered the parts from local OB. Can't wait to get a perfect fitting bracelet! Also for anyone wondering. I have a roughly 8-8.25" wrist. Every link installed & clasp fully extended. The watch fits, however it's a little snug & I know in the heat when sweating it will be very snug. So this modification I feel very worth it IMO. Watch- 1861 Speedmaster Professional in Hesalite.

    Has anybody tried other Omega clasps with micro adjustments that will help with this problem? This clasp looks a little too big for my liking. Just wondering if there are other viable options before I go ahead with this conversion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  5 лет назад

      That is a smaller version of this with 3 adjustment points instead of 6 like the one I bought that you could look into. I don't know the part number of that clasp.

      Fish, just a quick update. I went ahead and did the conversion with the 3 adjustment clasp, unfortunately fit is still not perfect. Not sure if I will try the 6 adjustment clasp (I know that would solve the problem) but I have very small writs and that clasp would eat up most of the bracelet. Wish Omega would come out with half link for this bracelet. Will have to give this some thought, total BS that Omega cant make a clasp with enough micro-adjustments. The good news is that the Speedy looks great on a black leather racing strap that I picked up. Thanks again for the info.@@JustBlueFish

      JustBlueFish Watch Reviews For me, it's the overall presentation and aesthetics of the watch itself. I like your Submariner much better. I don't hate the Speedmaster, but I'd rather get a nice Tissot.

      I thought of trying the shorter version but if I’m not mistaken that one only has 3 points of adjustment. I think if the standard 2 points on the default clasp isn’t enough 1 extra position might not help.

      On their website Omega states that it should be in a range of -1 to +11 seconds per day. I haven't had mine long enough to test it thoroughly but it seems to be well within that range so far.

The Boutique only offers me the Micro adjustment clasp from the Speedmaster Apollo 17 version which only has 3 holes. They charge 225€ for it. Anyone has experience with the smaller micro adjustment clasp, is it enough?

      Watches & BBQ 6. It is quite a bit bigger than the original clasp. I’m not sure if I like it that much because of the size to be honest. It depends on personal taste. I’ll keep it on for a few days and if I still cannot get used to it I may have to give it back or sell it.

    What a performance to just get the right fit. A total disgrace. Why not incorporate 3 or 4 micro adjustments ?
    Any 10 dollar watch has the pinholes, but no not Omega. I have a Seamaster without any micro adjustments. Luckily there are some half links, but the performance when after a long warm day the watch is too tight. Yes you have a divers extension, but who is using that? Who is diving with a 4000 dollar watch? Be practical Omega, please.....

Speck on the dial, movement issues (intermittently stopped) Omega service butchered the lugs and scratched the case and refused to repair. Sold it for an enormous loss back to the dealer.
