  • Today I'm here to guide you through a method that we often utilize in our lab for effectively cleaning the Type C charging connector on Samsung devices that just won't turn on.
Over time, dust and lint from our pockets can accumulate in the tiny crevices of our mobile devices, particularly in the charging port. As time passes, this build-up can solidify and prevent the charging cable from making a secure connection, and in many cases, result in the device not charging at all. Although it's easy to panic and assume the worst - that perhaps the charging port is broken - more often than not, the real culprit is this pesky accumulation of dirt.

In this guide, I'll share a simple, yet highly effective method we use to clean the charging ports. The main tool we'll need is a very thin syringe needle, which is easily available at any pharmacy. Alongside this, we'll use a pair of thin tweezers, a piece of cotton, and a contact cleaner, preferably isopropyl alcohol or any other high-purity alcohol.
As I'll illustrate, the key is to gently scrape away at the solidified dirt with the needle, ensuring we don't damage the internal tracks of the connector. Following this, we will use the tweezers, cotton, and alcohol to thoroughly cleanse the area. A high-quality contact cleaner can be a bonus, as it not only cleans but also protects the electronic tracks and eliminates any trace of rust or corrosion.
Through this step-by-step guide, I hope to demystify the process and help you extend the lifespan of your mobile device by maintaining clean charging connectors. So, join me in this video tutorial to uncover this simple yet efficient method to keep your device running smoothly. Until next time!

One note - it is wiser to use a wooden toothpick rather than a metal needle due to the fact that the metal on the port will be a lot harder to scratch with an object that is made out of softer material(usually it is the softer material that is going to deform). If the toothpick is not thin enough you can try breaking it apart into smaller thinner pieces or use some other thin object that is made out of another material that is also softer than metal (f.e. plastic). But even with a softer material where scratching is not a concern you should be careful not to bend anything.

Excellent! Syringe needle was a good suggestion. I had been trying with a fine lock pick which was fine enough to get in the gap but it’s rounded end didn’t pick up the compressed lint. Syringe from the chemist worked great!

Thanks for an awesome video. If the charging port has some corrosion, how do I clean it and test if it's working again?
