I Googled to see if they had a game that day and they did. This was probably the morning rehearsal on gang day and the director didn't want them to wear out their lips during practice. I was a trumpet player at Indiana (marched all 4 years) and on game days, our director would always tell us to sing our parts during the morning rehearsal.
