A SERIOUS ISSUE with NameDrop in iOS 17

- iOS 17 just dropped today, and one of the headlining features that everyone's talking about is NameDrop. But I've found a severe issue with it. One that renders the feature useless. Watch the video to learn more. Enjoy!
For everyone that came to this video looking for a NameDrop contact details security rant, sorry for wasting your time, haha! And yes, the security “issue” is misinformation, both iPhones need to be unlocked and turned on for NameDrop to initiate.
And with iOS 17.2, the issue I point out in this video has been fixed! Apple has replaced the NameDrop drop-down menu with the checkboxes found in the Contacts app!
Both iPhones have to be UNLOCKED!

I just deleted a bunch of my own contact info trying to make a different contact card but didn’t work FML. Would be nice to have multiple cards for business and casual use with friends home address etc.

@@techyOS it won't share them but the name/phone number pops up on their device, which makes it fairly easy to read/take a photo of.

It has been recently discovered that NameDrop is a SERIOUS security issue and it has been recommended to TURN THAT FEATURE OFF, or stop the sharing. Beware.
False, you have to confirm and unlock your phone.

Do you also have to manually turn AirDrop on for “everyone for 10 minutes” in order for it to work, or does it really just work all the time by touching phones?

It’s absolutely stupid that you have to even tap on what contact details you want to share. That should be pre determined in your contact card.

Seems like the bigger issue is that a person’s contact details appear on the screen when the phone is locked.
