  • In September 2023, Apple quietly introduced a new 80% charging limit for the iPhone 15. Prior to this, there have been many articles about why one should only charge their phone from 20% to 80%. But, does this actually improve your life or worsen it? Watch the video to learn more. Enjoy!

    I thought that the setting limits your battery to 80% when charging during the night, and then lets it charge to 100% in the morning before you wake up and use it. By doing this it reduces the time it spends stressed at 100% but still keeps it so the phone will be at 100% when you wake up and use it. It doesn’t permanently limit your charging to 80%, it limits it when you are sleeping and not even using your phone

      the setting you’re referring to is labeled “optimized battery charging”, which is what i’m using right now. in the video, i’m talking about “80% limit”, which doesn’t allow you to charge past 80% whatsoever.

    Straight to the point, well explained. I remember stumbling across one of your RUclips shorts and I’m trying to get into being a RUclipsr (my old videos are really cringe and I’m trying again lol) I just looked for some creators that were fairly small just a sort of say how similar my content that I have been planning is. And I’m happy I came across you and I went to your channel and subscribed right away because your videos are really high-quality and well-made.

    Since I got my iPhone 12 Pro Max in 2020, I’ve been charging it to 80% if I’m at home or know I won’t be gone long. If I know it’s going to be a long day I’ll let it pass 80% and charge it as much as I can before I leave. I use ~100-120% battery every day and my phone is still at 85% battery health 1200+ days later. It definitely helps if you plan on keeping your phone more than 2 years.

    • @techyOS
      @techyOS  5 месяцев назад

      good to hear! i don’t have that level of precision or control in me that would be enough to figure out if i should charge to 80% or 100% each night…

    • @johnmoore1495
      @johnmoore1495 5 месяцев назад

      @@techyOSsee I usually don’t charge overnight. I plug it in when I go to bed, I use the 20W fast charger so it’s relatively quick, and once it hits 80% I unplug it before falling asleep. Then in the morning I’ll top it off to 80% again when I’m getting ready.
      Due to the nature of my job I basically get no time to spend on my phone so it doesn’t really drain during that time. So really the only time I go above 80% is if I’m going on a long drive or going to family/friend’s house for a while.
      If I upgraded my phone every 2-3 years I probably wouldn’t care, but since Apple has really been slowing down the upgrades each year I plan on keeping this until the 16 Pro Max (4 years) if not 17 Pro Max (5 years.)

    I had 80% charge limit on my iPhone 15 originally but found that after only a month of use I was trying to charge my phone more and more often and after only 32 cycles I was already at 99% battery health. Decided I’d rather just charge the phone to full if it’s gonna degrade anyways 😂 bless Apple care

    I can’t understand why anyone would use it, it takes about 2-3 years of moderate use to get the battery health to 80% so the first 2-3 years someone using the 80% limit would just be doing so for no reason at all. Secondly it costs less than £100 to replace the battery. If you’re someone who wants to keep your phone for years then surely just paying £100 (or nothing if you have apple care) is worth it for having your full battery. That’s like £30 a year to just use your full battery with 0 consequences

    This feature is great if you are always at home or office all day next to a charger, you can leave it plugged in without having the battery drain and going above the 80% dangerzone. So you could play games, watch videos without worrying about battery draining and increasing cycles

    In the start I used to keep the 80% limit on. But later on I realised keeping it at 80% made me charge my phone more than once in a day. Therefore, I ditched the 80% limit and started charging my phone whenever it went below 30-40%. Many times, I had to charge my phone the next day instead of EOD. Charging my phone to 100% overnight makes it less likely to charge at night instead of charging twice a day.

    Is it ok to just let it go down by 20% and charge it not by 100%? How does a cycle count by plugging the charger?

  • @muphkam
    @muphkam 5 месяцев назад

    Actually I only use the 80% limit when I am on CarPlay or would like to top up my battery so it doesn't go below 40% throughout the day, otherwise I always make sure to go for one full charge per day. It's a great feature but it depends how you use it.. However, I wish they can enable some sort of automation on it via shortcuts.. like when I am on CarPlay switch to 80% battery charging, otherwise fully charge for instance..

  • @leroro9933
    @leroro9933 5 месяцев назад

    In my opinion, the 80 percent feature should not be turned on. I would only enable it if I were planning to sell this phone after 1 or 2 years to increase its value. However, if you plan to use this phone for a long time, it isn't worth it because the 80 percent limit means you're only experiencing 3/4 of what you paid for. It's like you're already experiencing 80-90% battery health when it's still new. Over time, it will degrade, but at a much slower pace. However, the feeling won't be the same anymore. You paid for the experience, and enabling this feature removes it.

    I feel frustrated with my phone, the Ip 15 Pro Max. My phone has gone through 44 charging cycles and the battery health is 99%. I am very careful not to leave it on charge all the time, knowing that I use an Apple original charger and cable, and I use the 80% limit feature. I don't know if this is normal or not

    80% feature is made for people that intend to keep their devices for a decent ammount of time think 5 years. for example most of the time i rarley ever need 100% of my battery so i keep it at 80% and then if i think even for a bit ill have a longer day ill set it so it charges to 100% this prolongs the life of my battery without having to do fiddle arround with warranty claims. if your on samsung you can even set routines to automatically turn off the feature on certain days or times. this is just a feature most of you it might not be needed but there is literally nothing wrong with having an option dont use it if you dont want it. its also the same reason why tesla non LFP batteries it is reccomended to charge to 80% instead of 100% unless you need it because most of the time 80% is more than enough
