I came across this video because I saw one of Elon’s interview with Roganshow. He states that, “Lithium batteries tend to slow charge when reached 80% because those ions are now harder to find a place to store themselves”
The idea changed my mind completely. From now on I will only charge my devices up to 80%; whether it’s a phone or a car.
Yes that is true. Especially if you use your phone as always plugged in. But on the other hand, in the case of a smartphone, use it at will. Life is too short to try and prolong battery performance for a few months. I tend to just change the battery.

@@firstime911till date i have kept the 80% limit on from the date of purchase and even though apple has said it will occasionally charge upto 100% i havent seen it till now.

You're right, avoiding charging above 80% is best for battery life, but, that other software that tries to manage "smart charging" isn't AI, just good old adaptive/smarter software.

Actually 7 out of 10 times the iPhone is will charge to 80% and the rest of the time it will charge to 100% to maintain accurate battery health and this in fact is mentioned by Apple on their website so even if you turn the 80% limit on it won’t charge to 80% all the time.
I charge mine to 100% during Tornado season (now in Central Texas) for the weather maps and radar. Then I switch it back to 80% charge when the weather clears up . Good video.

I want just to ask is it ok to charge until battery gets 99%,for above 100% is damaging battery, now 80 percent damaging it like damn i just look to get not damaging not perfect battery because its reaply expensive i just want to keep this in best because phone is money sucker but i see otherwise people told now i regret but it will be different phone if this gets dead... i always turn off phone when its charging so i think most safest way is turning off while charging with low power mode on and be sure its not charging when its over i mean 100%

I have a jailbroke iPad 3 I got in 2012 and it still works for many hours playing Netflix for the grandson and charges just fine. It’s an oddity.

Google it. It is an extremely well known fact of lithium ion batteries.
Dangit apple please stop treating older model users like second class customers! This is purely a software update and we know older models don't have any limitations holding them back from implementing this because the 80% function is built into the battery optimization program. The only difference is that they are now giving us a button to manually enable or disable it.
80 Percent feature was one from day 1 background was off for all apps services like Location based was app very less number of apps still my iPhone losted 1 percent now at 99 percentage after just 50 cycles count

Charging to only 80 apparently doubles the amount of charge cycles you have before your battery degrades. But if you switch your phone every like 2 years there is no reason to do this
It depends on the need., If 80% is ok for daily use, then why not
If i go for long trips i would go 100% But for most of the time i got go 80%

Yes. I thought so too at the beginning. But then this would happen with optimised charging as well, when ios holds the charge at 80%
The frequency at which the cycle count increases seems faster to me when I set the limit at 80% and charge my phone between 40 & 80%.

Mobile gamers can especially benefit from this but it's about the OEM implementation. There's a feature called "Battery Idle" on new Samsung S24 devices that allows the phone to use power directly from the charger instead of the battery while gaming. This reduces heat and greatly eases the load on the battery. Unfortunately not many have adopted this feature yet.

I realize everyone has different results, but my wife bought an iPhone 8 when it was their latest rendition and she has been a fiend about only charging to 80%. I just checked her battery health and it’s at 97% so I’m not going to say sorry I’m going to say thank you!
Then she doesn’t use her phone. Regardless on the not charging past 80% apple said the batteries are only good for about 500 charge cycles.
@@anires1195 Nope, it's a well-known fact that cycle count depends on DoD. Read any 18650 data sheet, it is a graph, not just a number.
@@anires1195 You have to consider what Apple considers a “cycle.” Apple says a completed charge cycle is 100%. Only charging to 80% does in fact lead to a higher amount of charge cycles.

my 15 pro battery health is down 2% in just 1 month with 30 cycle of charge! i always charge it 35-95% and once a day ! even i rarely use my phone, because i always use other phone! its so weird! smh!

I had the same experience as well. Try to redo the process of changing it and put it back to 80% then restart ur phone. This method works for me. I hope it will work for you as well. Thanks
I tried the 80% limit but unfortunately after charging for 40 mins it goes up to 83%. Thats why I unplugged the charger right away.

Its not always gonna work, I just charged my phone and set the charging to 80% limit. I pulled the charging cable when it was 85

But if i charge iPhone 80% everyday that mean i use 60% of 100% battery so i have to charge 2/3 a day that makes cycle count fast for this reason my battery health can reduce and according to apple thay said cycle count is about battery health

Not had at all I may try that I got a 14pm back in Feb brand new the lowest I’ll let it go is 30% and I’ll charge it between 75 and 85% I charge it to 100% every 3 days my battery health dropped to 99% back in October and now it being December it’s still on 99%

Because sometimes, when you are outdoors for the whole day taking photos and making calls, chatting on WhatsApp, for example while traveling, you would wish to start the day with 100%. In such cases, I switch from 80% limit to Optimized Battery Charging

Facts, even with 80 percent, lith ion batteries will degrade in a similar time span anyway. And people will upgrade in 2-3 years anyway. No point in losing your battery for basically nothin, I find that using your phone while on the charger fucks the phones battery more than charging to 100 anyway.
My 3 year old economical Samsung has this feature but my IPhone 14 Pro Max does have this. This is BS like many from Apple.

Many iPhone users still think that this feature is the old battery optimized charging we have for years. 😂😂😂😂😂. I am sorry but if you don’t have the iPhone 15s, then you don’t have this feature. Actually there 2 new battery features in the new iPhone. Go to general and about, you will see a new battery charge cycle, letting you know many times you have charged your iPhone. All these features started working effectively on the new iOS 17.0.3

We don’t use other smartphones from 100-0% everyday, I don’t know for you, but it’s not possible for me, the feature is there to save your battery during the day, I only charge my battery to 100% once in 3 days, and that will help my battery last longer than yours, and yes 80% charge is 30mins less

But I’ve been charging my iPhones overnight every night to 100% and have never had issues. My 13 pro max which is 2 years old still holds an all day battery. I’m going to enable this feature on my 15 pro max just to see if it makes a difference.
