This brings back some of my earliest memories... the summer afternoon when my father sat down with me and my sister and we watched the first LoTR... I love these movies so much!
There is to this date no single group of people that make such inspirational and amazing music in my ears. I write this as I listen, and it sure does give me the chills.
The violin from the original sound track was uplifting and gracious, and the cello in this vid is courageous and strong. I adore both versions, having listened to both for as long as I can remember. Every time I hear either, my mind is overcome by ecstasy as I absorb the feeling and memories that comes from the movies and the playing. All the LOTR music is heavenly beautiful, I can’t get enough of it

These guys really do take you on a journey with this piece. In the description, they mention how most of their compositions come from musical binges and are completed within days. but this one came from intensive study and was way more thought out, to try and encompass what that movie means to its fans. At some points it feels like you’re embarking on an adventure, walking peacefully through a meadow, in the midst of trying to escape death, coming home... The video accompaniment is gorgeous, and to me it accentuates the music, amplifying how epic it is. As a Hobbit/LOTR fan, I really enjoyed this piece. It took me back to the books and movies, and I think it did real justice to the creative source from which they came.

Reminds me of Wales. Mainly because the Hobbits seem kinda welsh. Well, not kinda, definitely.... and the Dwarves seem Scottish... men uhhh.... Maybe English? Or Irish? Idk. If the Elves are based off the English I am leaving XD.
Lord of Light I don't find this much Irish at all, I'm Irish so I would know, if you wanna hear something Irish, listen to the Irish Rovers with songs like "Johnney I hardley knew ye" or "Drunken Sailor"
I'm Irish too, I wouldn't agree with your sweeping statement that you would know due to that. I think the song largely sampled (Concerning Hobbits) is distinctly linked with the Irish culture, with trad notes and progressions...though not in the genre of Drunken Sailor of course. And I'm studying my pHd in this, that is why I claim "I would know"!
I watched the video, how they played on the piano and when i sad Down in front of my piano i played the start without problems, i got so inspired that i started learning the Whole melody for my piano. I wanna thank PianoGuys with all of my Heart for this video.

I just love this song, so moving, so powerful, beautiful..amazing, just amazing..moves me to tears everytime..Hobbit and LoTR by far my most favorite fantasy novels and books..ever, without a doubt
Peter Jackson was the film genius to match Tolkien's literary genius... And Howard Shore was the musical genius to match them both together. Good job on this, you guys. Loved it.
Bloody heck mate, this is amazing. As an amateur musician, I love how evident it is that you two are just, for lack of a better term, completely in the zone, just absorbed into the music. This is not just two guys playing music. This is two guys *feeling* the music, *living* the music, and being totally captured by the music. It is that moment when musician, music, and instrument become one. Thank you for making this, you made my day.
I love the Lord of the Rings music. Howard Shore is a musical master. This piece is the best rendition I’ve heard, it blends all the themes and motifs so beautifully
+Dale Gribble maybe not,but you most definitely need time and interest. I for example love music but was never interested in learning an instrument, even if my family is very musical
Watching in 2020 also :) Beautiful... especially after my hubby and son just finished watching the third movie the other day. I tried, but I was bawling too much to watch that much. :)
I rewatched the whole trilogy a couple days ago and I cannot believe I thought Two Towers and Return of the King were better than Fellowship of the Ring. I guess in terms of action they're better and more exciting, but Fellowship has a lot more to offer. It has much better pacing and is more emotional than the 2nd and 3rd movies imo. 1st time I watched Fellowship, I thought it was just a great movie. But watching it again, paying attention to every detail, and listening to every line the character spoke, it hit me pretty good. Like when Boromir in Rivendell told Aragorn "Gondor has no king, Gondor needs no king" to when he's about to die and admits to Aragorn "I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king." Fellowship is so underrated.
Deep Night They all have their great moments. The most emotional part was the ending when Frodo and Gandalf leave the shire. How could you miss that?!?! lol
you guys make me really bad for not playing cello or piano but i love it. Maybe if i find some sheet music, i'll try the duet with my brother. Thanks for the inspiration.

Русский Английский думаю никто не может утверждать что он самый яростный поклонник the lord of the rings. это такой фильм который можно либо обжать в наибольшей степени либо быть равнодушным. к последнему немогу найти ни одной причины (может быть отсутствие сердца) но я говорю это не в упрёк к тебе. ни в коем случае. А хочу показать этим величие этого фильма покорившего множество стран. dumayu nikto ne mozhet utverzhdat' chto on samyy yarostnyy poklonnik the lord of the rings. eto takoy fil'm kotoryy mozhno libo obzhat' v naibol'shey stepeni libo byt' ravnodushnym. k poslednemu nemogu nayti ni odnoy prichiny (mozhet byt' otsutstviye serdtsa) no ya govoryu eto ne v uprok k tebe. ni v koyem sluchaye. I think no one can say that he is the most ardent fan of the lord of the rings. this is the kind of film that you can either compress to the greatest extent or be indifferent. I cannot find a single reason for the latter (maybe the absence of a heart), but I am not saying this as a reproach to you. in no case. And I want to show by this the greatness of this film that has conquered many countries.
Merci, merci, merci !
Man this brings back so many good memories. It's so soothing as well, Bilbo was my favorite Hobbit because he was just a Hobbit living in the Shire who then went on a crazy adventure. The ending of the last Hobbit movie was sad however with Thoren and the Elf girl.

I love how with each theme there is a change in brightness and location for e.g. The Shire ( I think that's what is called) takes place in a green surrounding with small trees and the sun shining down, exactly how the Shire should be, a beautiful place with simplistic people.

It would be really awesome if you did the Misty Mountains Cold cover from the Hobbit: Unexpected Journey!
Telekinetic this
rofl k
The Hobbit movies were shit
The exchange of melodies and rhythms from one instrument to another is what gets me. Love you Piano Guys!!!
This kinda makes me cry a little its so like WOW makes me think about nature and life the hobbit and the lord of the rings!
me too
Reminds me of Wales. Mainly because the Hobbits seem kinda welsh. Well, not kinda, definitely.... and the Dwarves seem Scottish... men uhhh.... Maybe English? Or Irish? Idk. If the Elves are based off the English I am leaving XD.
m8 feels more like nz but that's just me
Lord of Light I don't find this much Irish at all, I'm Irish so I would know, if you wanna hear something Irish, listen to the Irish Rovers with songs like "Johnney I hardley knew ye" or "Drunken Sailor"
So sorry to hear about your daughter, Mr. Schmidt. Your family will be in our prayers.
I’m a fan of originality, meaning creating your own songs. I’ve never had that gift. I’m thinking you did or do. Without music, we’d all be done for. KEEP MUSIC ALIVE…forever!
I just love this song, so moving, so powerful, beautiful..amazing, just amazing..moves me to tears everytime..Hobbit and LoTR by far my most favorite fantasy novels and books..ever, without a doubt
You guys really nailed the Gondor theme. Gave me goosebumps.
Peter Jackson was the film genius to match Tolkien's literary genius... And Howard Shore was the musical genius to match them both together. Good job on this, you guys. Loved it.
3:09 Always gives me the chills when I come back to this video
+Killstr3aker01 OMG! reminds me of the bitter sweet ending Lord of the RIngs... T_T
+Killstr3aker01 ikr
Bloody heck mate, this is amazing. As an amateur musician, I love how evident it is that you two are just, for lack of a better term, completely in the zone, just absorbed into the music. This is not just two guys playing music. This is two guys *feeling* the music, *living* the music, and being totally captured by the music. It is that moment when musician, music, and instrument become one. Thank you for making this, you made my day.
I love the Lord of the Rings music. Howard Shore is a musical master. This piece is the best rendition I’ve heard, it blends all the themes and motifs so beautifully
This is so inspiring with them feeling the music, and where they're playing it in... it makes me want to pick up my cello and start playing this.
I cant play any instruments...
But i can feel how this cello guy is feeling his music in his face expressions. 3:20 for example
why cant u play instruments
+Dale Gribble no time/talent/interest?
BoS Knight well you dont need talent to play an instrument
+Dale Gribble maybe not,but you most definitely need time and interest. I for example love music but was never interested in learning an instrument, even if my family is very musical
But you do need talent to play anything like as well as these guys.
I cried.....I'd walk down the isle with this song if I could
why yes sir thank you I would love a smoke.
Constantin Negura Everything sounds better on cello, that is why.
Pashion_Ends Hey stupid, why don't you go hunt up a rap video? Obviously more sensitive, cerebral music is beyond you.
Have a nice day!
mersaphireful well done!! hahaha
2019 anyone? As a true LOTR fan, this got me cryinnn
2011
YES IT DO
2020
Watching in 2020 also :) Beautiful... especially after my hubby and son just finished watching the third movie the other day. I tried, but I was bawling too much to watch that much. :)
I know that feeling. I think I’m done crying then Rohan them starts playing.2020
Nothing but respect and love for the piano guys💖💖💖💖💖
All the feels.
I agree
Deep Night They all have their great moments. The most emotional part was the ending when Frodo and Gandalf leave the shire. How could you miss that?!?! lol
why see it as 3 movies? it's one great story
Nothing beats when Theoden grabs his sword in the golden hall in two towers. pure emotion
+Josh Lyman I freaking agree to this!!!!!
you guys make me really bad for not playing cello or piano but i love it. Maybe if i find some sheet music, i'll try the duet with my brother. Thanks for the inspiration.
Here's a resource for some sheet music. - thepianoguys.com/shop/#sheetmusic Never stop playing! :)
thanks guys for everything you guys are doing. you inspired me to play the cello Steve:)
I cant find the Lord of the Rings sheet in your site, pls help me :D
thepianoguys.com/shop/#sheetmusic. that's where you can find a lot of their stuff.
Please upload this and other songs missing in your shop, i want to buy them D:
I watch this over and over again ( 'there and back again' to true fans) This performance never looses its soul moving beauty. Thank you
3:20 is the best part....
Of course, but the part from 3:20 is the most beautiful :)
6:05 was the worst part... ) :
All of it is the best part!
I like 2:08

Nicholas Peterman one of the best comments ever :)
+Nicholas Peterman geez! you must be genius
RoX treme127 Nah, I just had a moment of creative enlightenment. Not as glorious as I just made it sound. XD
+Nicholas Peterman the same comment was on Lindsey Stirling's cover of Lord of the Rings.
i can visualize the fire's of gondor being lit 4:09-5:40
I can't begin to describe how your music makes me feel.. Thank you for sharing your passion for music with us.
This is so beautiful it made me cry.
The Shire theme tugged my heart. I've always been a fan of Tolkien's tales. This is just simply beautiful!!
Gondor theme is so epic!
Yes!
The lighting of the beacons… I think thats the most beautiful version I’ve ever heard! Thank you so very much for this arrangement🎉
Simplemente hermoso... me llegó al alma, especialmente en la música de los Rohirim... dan ganas de volver a recordar la película..
I get teary at the end of "Return of the King" when Gandalf tells Frodo "It is time!"
You should read the books! The ending offers more closure in the books, in my humble opinion.
Being the biggest Lord of the ring's fan on planet earth all I can say is......Awesome!

думаю никто не может утверждать что он самый яростный поклонник the lord of the rings.
dumayu nikto ne mozhet utverzhdat' chto on samyy yarostnyy poklonnik the lord of the rings. eto takoy fil'm kotoryy mozhno libo obzhat' v naibol'shey stepeni libo byt' ravnodushnym. k poslednemu nemogu nayti ni odnoy prichiny (mozhet byt' otsutstviye serdtsa) no ya govoryu eto ne v uprok k tebe. ni v koyem sluchaye. A khochu pokazat' etim velichiye etogo fil'ma pokorivshego mnozhestvo stran.
This gave me chills. Absolute perfection!
Man this brings back so many good memories. It's so soothing as well, Bilbo was my favorite Hobbit because he was just a Hobbit living in the Shire who then went on a crazy adventure. The ending of the last Hobbit movie was sad however with Thoren and the Elf girl.
Thorin is the king. Its his nephew kili and the elf girl.
+Gwyneth Hill Dang it I knew it started with a K! So I just went with Thoren, that way someone could correct me and I thank you for helping me!
+Sonia Strumm Yo... Samwise the Brave doe
+Ghost1170 ghost sorry man but it's your time....again.
Ghosthunter 226 I dun get the reference Sorry :[
Who DARED to dislike this?!
+Atticus Voss I don't know... 1,000 people apparently have never seen the Hobbit or read the books.
+Love123 I included.

"The Lord of the Strings: The Return of the Key"
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Jig"
"The Hobbit: The Decrescendo of Smaug"
"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Altos"
Nicholas Peterman Nice!
Sauron.
I love how with each theme there is a change in brightness and location for e.g. The Shire ( I think that's what is called) takes place in a green surrounding with small trees and the sun shining down, exactly how the Shire should be, a beautiful place with simplistic people.
How on the middle earth can someone click dislike?! This video is perfection.
Misty mountains theme pleaseeee
Love this song. So powerful and rich.
If you guys ever read these, can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do I See Fire by Ed Sheeran? That would be SO amazing!!
Hannah Walker Oh my gosh, that would be amazing!
Hats off to Peter Jackson 🙌🏻

3:10
that melody was just made for the cello, so beautiful.
Btw, since 2012 you have grown a million a year, congrats to 5 million
No, it was made for the movie
It must be so ridiculously hard to play this on the piano.
I LOVE IT!
Bravo! Marvelous cover. Howard Shore must be proud of you guys.
This is SO beautiful! I play the cello and I can never even imagine sounding this heavenly
